Firefox will not open a new page or tab when I click on certain links, why?

Hi,
I have been having a problem with firefox for the past month.
Clicking on some links which open a new tab/window
do not work. For example I cannot enlarge photos
on ebay listings to have a closer look at the image.
I just see a box at the bottom of the screen that
says 'javascript;' then it disappears.
Any ideas how to fix this ?
p.s.I have tried to load in safe mode, but the problem is still there.

Such JavaScript links should show the image in the same tab, so make sure that you left click such links.
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/JavaScript
Try to reload the web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
* Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

  • Firefox will not open a new page without permission

    I need to stop a setting that prevents firefox from opening a new page while at a web site or browsing, and can't figure out which setting or add on is causing the problem.
    Help much appreciated! Very annoying!!

    You're welcome

  • Firefox will not open to home page as directed in options and settings. Opening in safe mode makes no difference, either. Any ideas?

    Firefox will not open to home page as set in the settings. Even in safe mode, it still will not open to home page as directed. It seems to want to open to last set of tabs, even though that is not the way it was set in settings. It seems as though the settings do not have any impact on the way it behaves!!!

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
    If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
    Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 20.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
    *Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • Firefox will not open any new tabs since windows update

    I have windows 7 64, and recently, when windows automatically updated, my firefox will not open any new tabs, manually or when opening a link...

    Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

  • Firefox will not open a new, secure log-in page, on my bank's site

    My Bank's website opens a new, secure, log in page from a link on its home page. When I click on this link to do so, nothing happens. No window opens and Firefox does not give any messages as to why. It used to work, but has stopped in the last couple of months. I don't know if it something in my settings or not. I also use the Flock browser - which is based on the Mozilla code and the link works in this browser. Settings in both browsers appear to be the same.
    == URL of affected sites ==
    http://banksa.com.au

    I get the login window in Firefox.
    It uses javascript to open the window. Try hitting control-F5 - that will reload all the scripts in case one is corrupt in the cache.
    Do you have any add-ons that might block scripts? Adblock Plus, No Script, ...
    If so try disabling them.
    Try safe mode

  • Firefox will not open a new window for a website when it is supposed to and then will not close properly. I have un-installed and re-installed and problem persists, why? How is it solved?

    When I go on to some websites and click on certain things it wants to open a new window to display the information etc.
    I.E. On an agency job search site I click to do a detailed job search which should open in a new window, but this will not happen now on my Firefox.
    Firefox was working perfectly ok on Saturday 11th September but for some unknown reason has acted up since Sunday.
    There have been no Windows updates which could effect this and the laptop is otherwise working perfectly ok.
    Nothing has changed from Saturday Night to Sunday Night that I can see.
    I have even tried to do a system restore to solve the problem but with no success.

    I also have this problem. I cannot open links from a discussion board I frequent nor can I open links from my email. Also after opening my email, I cannot go to any other sites except my home page. I can then go no where else.
    When I close Firefox and try to reopen it, it does nothing! I have to bring up the Task Manager and end the Firefox process before I can get back in.
    To the best of my knowledge, this problem started with the new update to Ver. 3.6.9. I am running Windows XP Media Center 2005

  • Firefox will not open a new window How do I fix it?

    When on a web page, If I right click and choose "Open In A New Window", it will open a new window but the window is always blank. I can copy the address and paste in in the new window and it will then take me to the web site but will not automatically open and take me to the site. Is there a fix for this?

    Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
    If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Firefox will not open after new update; Error: Platform version '1.9.2.13' is not compatible

    After accepting the new update I got this error message when trying to restart Firefox:
    XULRunner
    Error: Platform version ‘1.9.2.13’ is not compatible with
    minVersion >= 1.9.2.14
    maxVersion <= 1.9.2.14
    I have tried:
    - Opening in Safe Mode; same error
    - Uninstalling, deleting remaining info in C>ProgramFiles>MozillaFirefox folder, and reinstalling.
    - Updating Avast antivirus in case that was interfering.
    Now when I try to start Firefox I get this message;
    Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.
    But there is nothing happening in the Windows Task Manager. Please, somebody save me from Windows Internet Explorer!!

    I experienced this error updating from Firefox 3.6.13 to 3.6.14 and resolved it by doing a 'clean' install' as described. It occurred again in updating from 3.6.14 to 3.6.15 and this time a clean install failed to rectify it. (Anyway, I don't want to have to go through this every time.)
    Work-around: Shut down Firefox. Edit application.ini (typically "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\application.ini")
    [Gecko]
    MinVersion=1.9.2.15
    Change to 1.9.2.13
    Save. Start Firefox. Dirty? Yes. Works? Yes.
    (Gecko is the forerunner or XULrunner)

  • Firefox will not open a new tab

    Firefox has stopped letting me open a new tab. If I click on the plus sign, hit Ctrl-T, or go to File>New Tab, nothing happens. The only way a new tab will open is if I click on a link in an email, then it opens the link as a new tab. I use tabs frequently and it's very annoying to have to go find an email with a link just so I can open a tab. It doesn't matter if I have only one or several tabs open. I haven't installed anything other than Firefox and Windows (I have Windows 7) updates. I am running Firefox 24.0 but the problem started with the earlier version.

    '''Try the Firefox SafeMode''' to see how it works there. <br />

  • Firefox will not open any web pages including its own introduction pages.

    I downloaded Firefox to try out.
    When I first opened Firefox on this computer, it failed to open any web pages and continues to do so.
    I have downloaded it on two other laptops with the same configuration with no issues.
    Google Chrome is working on this machine.

    Update..when I open firefox from scratch, the main firefox pages on the home page seem to work. But as soon as I try to go anywhere else, IE going to a website in the address bar or even trying to access the defauly bookmark links, it just sits there loading but never brings anything up.

  • Firefox will not open a new window

    Have tried using Ctrl+N but no new window opens.
    Any website requesting a new window to open function fails.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Firefox will not open a web page

    I installed firefox but can not get the program to launch a web page. What do I do to resolve this?

    It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
