Firefox will not open a new window

Have tried using Ctrl+N but no new window opens.
Any website requesting a new window to open function fails.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
* [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
Your above posted system details show multiple Java Console extensions.<br />
You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions
Disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions<br />
Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)

  • Firefox will not open a new window for a website when it is supposed to and then will not close properly. I have un-installed and re-installed and problem persists, why? How is it solved?

    When I go on to some websites and click on certain things it wants to open a new window to display the information etc.
    I.E. On an agency job search site I click to do a detailed job search which should open in a new window, but this will not happen now on my Firefox.
    Firefox was working perfectly ok on Saturday 11th September but for some unknown reason has acted up since Sunday.
    There have been no Windows updates which could effect this and the laptop is otherwise working perfectly ok.
    Nothing has changed from Saturday Night to Sunday Night that I can see.
    I have even tried to do a system restore to solve the problem but with no success.

    I also have this problem. I cannot open links from a discussion board I frequent nor can I open links from my email. Also after opening my email, I cannot go to any other sites except my home page. I can then go no where else.
    When I close Firefox and try to reopen it, it does nothing! I have to bring up the Task Manager and end the Firefox process before I can get back in.
    To the best of my knowledge, this problem started with the new update to Ver. 3.6.9. I am running Windows XP Media Center 2005

  • Firefox will not open a new window How do I fix it?

    When on a web page, If I right click and choose "Open In A New Window", it will open a new window but the window is always blank. I can copy the address and paste in in the new window and it will then take me to the web site but will not automatically open and take me to the site. Is there a fix for this?

    Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
    If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Firefox will not open any new tabs since windows update

    I have windows 7 64, and recently, when windows automatically updated, my firefox will not open any new tabs, manually or when opening a link...

    Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

  • Under Windows 7, 64-bit, Firefox intermittently will not open a new window - all I get is a grey screen, with a tiny part of my homepage displayed in the top left corner of the screen.

    The problem began after a recent Firefox update. Occasionally, when I try to open a new Firefox window, all I get is a grey screen with a tiny section of my homepage visible in the top left corner of the screen. NOTE: Firefox stores all of these aborted attempts, as, whenever I close it and then re-open it, the first time I open a new window it automatically opens all of the windows that had originally failed to open.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == on or about June 26, 2010

    Got the exact same problem aswell, finally fed up with it now as i just started up firefox and 14 new windows opened because of this bug, luckily my computer can handle them but someone with a slower processor it would have been a nightmare, needs fixing ASAP.
    Reverting back to 3.6.3 until this issue is solved. (link for anyone wanting to do the same below)

  • Firefox will not open after new update; Error: Platform version '1.9.2.13' is not compatible

    After accepting the new update I got this error message when trying to restart Firefox:
    XULRunner
    Error: Platform version ‘1.9.2.13’ is not compatible with
    minVersion >= 1.9.2.14
    maxVersion <= 1.9.2.14
    I have tried:
    - Opening in Safe Mode; same error
    - Uninstalling, deleting remaining info in C>ProgramFiles>MozillaFirefox folder, and reinstalling.
    - Updating Avast antivirus in case that was interfering.
    Now when I try to start Firefox I get this message;
    Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.
    But there is nothing happening in the Windows Task Manager. Please, somebody save me from Windows Internet Explorer!!

    I experienced this error updating from Firefox 3.6.13 to 3.6.14 and resolved it by doing a 'clean' install' as described. It occurred again in updating from 3.6.14 to 3.6.15 and this time a clean install failed to rectify it. (Anyway, I don't want to have to go through this every time.)
    Work-around: Shut down Firefox. Edit application.ini (typically "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\application.ini")
    [Gecko]
    MinVersion=1.9.2.15
    Change to 1.9.2.13
    Save. Start Firefox. Dirty? Yes. Works? Yes.
    (Gecko is the forerunner or XULrunner)

  • Firefox will not open a new, secure log-in page, on my bank's site

    My Bank's website opens a new, secure, log in page from a link on its home page. When I click on this link to do so, nothing happens. No window opens and Firefox does not give any messages as to why. It used to work, but has stopped in the last couple of months. I don't know if it something in my settings or not. I also use the Flock browser - which is based on the Mozilla code and the link works in this browser. Settings in both browsers appear to be the same.
    == URL of affected sites ==
    http://banksa.com.au

    I get the login window in Firefox.
    It uses javascript to open the window. Try hitting control-F5 - that will reload all the scripts in case one is corrupt in the cache.
    Do you have any add-ons that might block scripts? Adblock Plus, No Script, ...
    If so try disabling them.
    Try safe mode

  • Firefox will not open a new tab

    Firefox has stopped letting me open a new tab. If I click on the plus sign, hit Ctrl-T, or go to File>New Tab, nothing happens. The only way a new tab will open is if I click on a link in an email, then it opens the link as a new tab. I use tabs frequently and it's very annoying to have to go find an email with a link just so I can open a tab. It doesn't matter if I have only one or several tabs open. I haven't installed anything other than Firefox and Windows (I have Windows 7) updates. I am running Firefox 24.0 but the problem started with the earlier version.

    '''Try the Firefox SafeMode''' to see how it works there. <br />

  • Links will not open in new window from iPad but work in IE on desktop.

    I am trying to set some links to open in a new tab but for some reason they just keep opening in the original tab. External links work fine but when I try to make another page from my website open in new tab, it will not work.
    I have looked at the code and it all looks fine.
    <a class="nonblock nontext shadow rounded-corners clearfix grpelem" id="u105617-9" href="metro_tweets.html" target="_blank"><!-- content --><p id="u105617"> </p><p id="u105617-2"> </p><p id="u105617-3"> </p><p id="u105617-7">Metropolitan<br/>Region TWEETS</p></a>
    I have also ticked the box that says "open the link in a new window or tab".
    Any ideas what the issue could be? It has worked before so I am sure it can be done.
    Would it have anything to do with the site hierarchy?
    Cheers
    Garry

    Hi Aish,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    I had a feeling you would ask me those questions so I'll give you a bit more background of what I am doing.
    I have created a locally accessed web app as part of project I am working on at Universty. It is a mockup of an iPad app that I will eventually build, although it is fully functional in it's web app state. For this reason it is not hosted on any web server but instead transferred to the iPad via DiskAid and accessed from Mercury Browser.
    Mercury browser is the only browser that I have found that can display html files from within it's own file storage and make it look like it is being served from a server. Safari browser will not let you do this and the only other browser that I found that could do it has been discontinued (Terra Browser).
    Adobe Muse has been fantastic for doing this kind of work and as I said before, the internal links opened in a new tab with Mercury Browser previously, so I am not really sure what is going on.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Garry

  • Firefox will not open a new page or tab when I click on certain links, why?

    Hi,
    I have been having a problem with firefox for the past month.
    Clicking on some links which open a new tab/window
    do not work. For example I cannot enlarge photos
    on ebay listings to have a closer look at the image.
    I just see a box at the bottom of the screen that
    says 'javascript;' then it disappears.
    Any ideas how to fix this ?
    p.s.I have tried to load in safe mode, but the problem is still there.

    Such JavaScript links should show the image in the same tab, so make sure that you left click such links.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/JavaScript
    Try to reload the web page(s) and bypass the cache.
    * Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
    * Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    * Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

  • Firefox will not open up in Windows 7.

    Firefox has stopped working in my computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times now, and it will not load up. Many articles online instruct me to clean cookies, etc. but I cannot do anything if the program doesn't load. It does not even show as loaded in my Windows Task Manager. Please advise.

    If you download the install stub for the most recent version of Firefox is will install over the existing profiles. Please try this, but make a back up of your profile first:[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]

  • Child projects will not open after new window is created in the master

    I am using Robohelp 9 (html) to created a Microsoft html file.  I have a master and child project.  My master projected uses a (WebHelp pro) window and the child uses a (HTML Help) Window.   Topics from the child project to open in the main window instead of a new one when there are selected from the table of contents.  I did the following in the master project:
    *Set the "Primary Layout " to Microsoft HTML
    *Created a new windowy (Window type "HTML Help" which matches the child project
    *Deleted the original window
    *Renamed the new window to "NewWindow" to match the child project.
    Now when I open the master chm file, and select topics from the child project, nothing happens, the topic is not opened in either the master window nor a new one.

    Hi,
    What happens if you remove the window from the child project. Does it work then?
    What happens if you create a new, blank master project and merge the child. Do you see the same behaviour?
    Greet,
    Willam

  • Firefox will not open a new tab at all.

    I have gotten rid of Ask tool bar and tried repairing firefox. Nothing seems to have worked thus far. Any other tricks I can try?

    You may still have Ask.com toolbar installed as it shows in your user agent.
