Firefox will not open from desktop icons

Hi peeps: have been solving an adware problem by resetting firefox on and off for 12 months. Now I canonly open it in task manager...shortcut icons/ start bar won't work. Any tips much appreciated

Thank you Cor-el, for your help. Not being the smartest pup in the litter I found it a bit overwhelming but there is a glimmer of success. I went to the Mozilla website and downloaded the latest version. In doing so the update seems to have corrected the problem. Again, thank you for your help. dustyantique

Photoshop elements 12 will not open from desktop

Downloaded adobe pse 12 from disc and it will not open from shortcut. new computer and program.

I have tried and failed. It was loaded from disc just purchased at Best buy. It loaded fine but will not start up at all. I have looked for the launch program and tried other methods but no success yet.

Yesterday (1/19/13) morning, my Firefox opened fine and it was business as usual. Yesterday afternoon, I clicked on my desktop icon, the little circle spun for about 2 seconds then stopped. Firefox would not open. This morning, the same thing happened. I removed Firefox from my computer, re-downloaded it, and it worked...until now (about 1 hour later). The same thing is happening again. Try to create a new desktop shortcut for the Firefox program by going to the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) and use the right-click context menu (Send to > Desktop) on the Firefox.exe file.

PDF FILES WILL NOT OPEN FROM DESKTOP

ADOBE READER WILL NOT OPEN A PDF FILE FROM THE DESKTOP ON MY MAC PRO.
It works when opened in Safari but I get the following messages when trying to open from the desktop.

Deleting the files "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" and "AdobePDFViewer.plugin" worked BUT then Safari couldn't display pdf files embedded on web pages.
I found putting "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" back fixed the display problem.
What I didn't know was that now when viewing a pdf, there is the pdf menu that becomes visible when mousing to the bottom of a page on the displayed pdf. Using it instead of the old Safari method for saving pdf's on web pages solved my problem.

Firefox will not open from my desktop (freezes), but will open from wifes desktop, same computer.

Within the last 3 days, I have opened my Firefox browser only to have it freeze. There are two tabs opened. One eventually showas a yellow triangle with and exclamation mark and states "Restore Session". The second tab has "Getting Started with Firefox". I have opened my wifes desktop, clicked on Firefox and it opens properly and I am able to use it. I go back to my desktop, open Firefox... FREEZES!! I have spoken with a local computer repair busuiness and have tried several suggestions from them including uninstalling and reinstalling. Even after the same thing happens from only my desktop, open Firefox...FREEZES!!. I hope you can provide a solution as there are several work related websites that only function correctly with Firefox.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

Firefox will not open from the start menu or the taskbar, but WILL open when called from Windows Live Messenger

This started a couple weeks ago, but doesn't seem to coincide with any other installations or reconfigurations, so I'm having trouble getting at the root cause.
The first time I run Firefox after installing, it runs fine (complete with a full list of add-ons.) If I then close FF and try to start it from the task bar or start menu, nothing happens. I've tried starting in safe mode (shift+FF), but get the same result. I've restored FF to all the default settings, disabled all my plugins and add ons, but no change.
The really odd part is that if I click the 'Inbox' link in my Windows Live Messenger, FF opens perfectly. This made me think that it was my homepage causing the issue, but A: I can go to that page without problems once FF has started from WLM, and B: even if I use the FF default homepage or google.com, I get the same problem. Furthermore, if I restart FF from within FF (like after I disable/enable an add-on), it will also start properly.
No crash report is generated by FF when it fails to load, but Windows catches the problem in it's event log. I've pasted the contents of that record at the bottom in the hopes that someone can take a stab at what's wrong.
Finally, I've already run through the online crash help, but everything is either not related (since FF will start if called indirectly) or has already been prevented (absolutely no add-ons are running at the moment.)

I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

Firefox will not open saved desktop bookmarks, it always defaults to home page, why is that?

I like to launch Firefox by clicking on desktop shortcuts I have saved (bank, Netflix, Gmail, Amazon, Yahoo, eBay, etc...). With Firefox 29 any desktop shortcut now opens to my home page, Google. If I choose open to a blank page in the options, then all of my shortcuts open to a blank page.
In Firefox 28 all of desktop shortcuts worked just fine. I like being able to start Firefox on a specific page. Now it looks like I can only open to my home page or a blank page. This is terrible!!! I have tried creating new desktop shortcuts from Firefox 29 and I get this same results. Really terrible.
I can deal with the interface (which I really do not like now) but this simple lose of how I like to start Firefox is going to drive me away. Please fix or explain to me how I can launch Firefox from a shortcut and have it open that web page. Many thanks!

Sorry didn't work. I am using MacOS 10.6. New shortcuts created in FF29 have the same problem. If FF29 is not open, clicking on the shortcut opens FF to my default home page, never to the shortcut URL I clicked. For example, clicking an Amazon.com shortcut I just dragged to the desktop, then quitting FF29 and clicking the shortcut launches FF29 to my Google home page. If I change my default browser to Safari all of my desktop shortcuts open Safari to the right page. Chrome had the same problem but I couldn't stand Chrome so I don't care. This is definitely a FF29 problem.
I am really attached to FF in general and this is not a deal breaker, just a huge annoyance. Again, thanks for any help.

Photoshop CC not opening from desktop icon

Photoshop CC installed on PC running Windows 7 and appears as app pinned to task bar. The application will open normally when opened via Lightroom photo editing, but when attempting to open from the task bar, it just brings up dailogue box, which shows it is installed and up to date, but nowhere to click to launch. Right clicking and 'run as administrator' brings me to the same dailogue box.

It sounds like that's the adobe creative cloud application instead the photoshop cc shortcut.
Is the icon red?
If you go to your Start>All Programs menu, do you see the photoshop cc shortcuts near the top of the menu?

You might try booting from DVD or another drive and running Disk Utility and Disk Warrior.
Or Single Users Mode (command s on startup) and follow on-screen instruction command
/sbin/fsck -fy
to repair your boot drive
... or a Safe Boot with shift key held down.
Corrupt prefs, directory, could be a number of small or major things.
But, in any case, make sure you have backups, and a bootable backup clone, maybe an emergency boot drive as well (install OS X on another drive if you don't have one now).

I upgraded from 3.6.13 to Beta 4.0 and now Firefox will not open at all I tried to uninstall to start again but it will not uninstall either it does nothing.

The fact it will not uninstall appears to be something completely new as nobody I know who uses Firefox has ever encountered this in the past.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.
