Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Just of late, Firefox will not open, have tried to uninstall, but it tells me I have to shut Firefox but it is not open! same problem downloading new version

Wherever I find Firefox on my computer, it will not open. i cannot get beyond the icon or the file. Clicking on them gets no result.
If I try to uninstall and download again, it tells me it cannot proceed in either case until I close Firefox. But it will not close. So I am totally stuck. It worked well up to about a fortnight ago.

hello xennophon, does the following help article contain a solution for your problem?: [["Firefox is already running but is not responding" error message - How to fix it]]
in some cases this error at startup might also be a symptom of malware active on the pc. please do a full scan of your system with your security software already in place and/or an alternative like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ free version of malwarebytes].

  • Firefox will not open unless I run it in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP 3), run it as an administrator, or launch it immediately after a reinstall (the reinstall thing only works once.) How do I fix this?

This morning, Firefox crashed. After this, when I click the Firefox icon, the hourglass appears and then nothing happens. Firefox does briefly appear in the task manager when I do this.
I tried rebooting. I tried reinstalling multiple times. (Firefox will run when I select "Launch Firefox" from the installer. Then the problem occurs again.) I tried safe mode. I have found that Firefox will work if I select Windows XP compatibility mode from the icon properties menu or if I run the program as an administrator. When I do this, Windows asks me if I want a program to be able to make changes to my computer.
I have noticed that a Windows Error Report is being generated each time Firefox will not open.

Organizer in PSE 10 wil not open, have tried a hundred times, worked fine previously, help anyone?

Thanks for your response DJ. I have Windows Vista and I'am getting NO error messages, crazy right? I just click on the organizer and it acts like its going to do something and then you wait and wait for maybe 30 minutes and it just doesn't move forward. I have been using the PSE programs for many years and have never encountered this problem! I have thousands of pictures on this program and its starting to freak me out that I cant access any of them! If you have any additional ideas please let me know. Thanks Julie

  • Firefox will not open. Process runs, but browser window will not open.

I am unable to get the Firefox browser window to launch. The application will attempt to open, but the browser window will not appear. Task manager indicates that the process is running, it just will not launch the window. No amount of restarts or reboots will make a difference. The strange thing about this is that Firefox has never run. This is a new computer and this issue has been a problem since it was first plugged in.
    Troubleshooting steps attempted thus far:
    1) Attempted to open in safe mode - will not open
    2) Attempted to run in administrator mode- will not open
    3) Completely uninstalled application, including profile info and reinstalled
    4) Uninstalled known conflicts - Skype 4 (do not have Norton)
    5) Even though issues since new, I ran a virus scan just in case-nothing
    6) Uninstalled Chrome which I installed after originally being unsuccesful at getting FF to install (I uninstalled it before I began all of these troubleshooting steps as I have heard of conflicts)
I am now at a loss and willing to try any other steps that you guys can suggest.
Computer is running Windows 7 pro 64 bit. Running McAffee virus software. There are three identical computers in my office, purchased at exactly the same time with the same configuration. Mine is the only one that will not run firefox. Sadness. Please help, pleeeease...

Win 7 with iTunes installed - I was also having problems with that.
"netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt resolved all issues and Firefox launched normally.
Check to see if Winsock is corrupted. May prevent FF from communicating with the web and consequently fails to launch properly - for my situation was not a firewall or antivirus block!
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936211#LetMeFixItMyselfAlways
Click Start, and in Start Search, type cmd.
Right-click the cmd entry that appears in the search results, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
    netsh winsock reset
Then, you should see the following message:
Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the computer in order to complete the reset.
    Restart the computer.
Note If you receive an “Access Denied” error message instead of the message that is mentioned in step 3, the command prompt was not correctly elevated. In this case, close the Command Prompt window, and repeat steps 1 through 3. Make sure that you correctly implement step 2.

  • I-tunes will not open-have tried solutions from other posts

    Hello all
My i-tunes 6 will not open on my computer. A few times at one point it flashed the user agreement and then died. It does appear in my windows task manager but only for a few seconds. I know some peopple have suggested a malware problem. I have been working with my brother, who makes a lving fixing other people's computers, and we cannot seem to isolate the malicious program causing the problem. There is an application in the msconfig utility that is called "qxjj" that will not delete. We believe this is the problem. I was wondering if anyone had encountered this particular program before and if they knew how to get rid of it. Ewido, spybot and microsoft anti-spyware have not appeared to get rid of it. Any help would be appreciated.

gaah. i think you and your brother have correctly diagnosed the problem.
there's a Qoologic variant that has been causing "error-less" itunes launch failure since late October. it's associated with the "license screen flash" symptom. it also drops randomly-generated-4-and-6-letter-name startup items in people's PCs.
Ewido and AdAware have typically been getting rid of it for people, so it's a bit disturbing that they aren't touching it in your case. however, we also have a "manual" removal technique that has been working for people. let's see if Dave's technique works for you:
Dave’s manual removal technique for the Qoologic variant
    keep us posted.

  • Firefox will not load, have uninstalled, reinstalled, stuck with explorer and unhappy.

After updating, firefox stopped loading. Have tried nummerous uninstall, reinstallation. But still after double-clicking the firefox icon (or opening in any way), the computer thinks about for a sec and then...nothing happens. I have opened up task manager and closed the adnousium of firefox.exe's that pile up after double-clicking.

Hi Johnynutz, <br/>First of all try to check that security software is not blocking Firefox. A new version may not be recognised, and in these circumstances before attempting to start Firefox always check in Task Manager that no instance of Firefox.exe or plugincontainer is left running.
Next It is probably worth seeing if you can open the Firefox profile manager, if so you may create a new profile for Firefox and try to restart it with that new profile. Standard reinstalls do not remove the profile (do NOT attempt profile removal unless you have backed it up)
    * see [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles#w_creating-a-profile]]_creating-a-profile
If that fails then it is necessary to re-install firefox, and this time use a clean re-install. Note it is the program files that are being removed NOT the profile files. Do not use any option from Windows or Firefox that removes personal information, because that will destroy bookmarks and passwords etc.
    * see [[Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems#w_7-reinstall-firefox]]_7-reinstall-firefox
Try starting the new install with your original default profile, and the newly created one.
Please post back with how you get on.

I have an issue where Firefox wont' quit and gives a "not responding" message after I have been using Google Mail. It works fine when I am not using that program. I have tried Safe Mode and the problem still happens when I go to Google Mail, so it is not connected with add-ons, extensions, etc.

  • Firefox will not open at all, no message , nothing. The other browser (internet explorer) opens fine. Do I delete the old program and reinstall it? It works fine on the other two accounts on this computer.

no other details, I click on foxfire, the hourglass figure
appears for a few seconds then goes off and nothing else happens.

Try the procedures in the [[Firefox will not start]] article.

  • When turning on my imac, it loads to a blue screen with a turning wheel and never gets passed that. I have tried booting to safe mode and it still doens't work.

When turning on my imac, it loads to a blue screen with a spinning wheel. It never gets passed that screen. I have tried power up to safe mode and it still doesn't work. I have music files saved on the computer and I don't want to lose any of my files. Can someone help me?

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, and see if that fixes it. BTW. detailed computer and OS info goes a long way to solving problems.

  • Firefox will not open but process runs

Suddenly I can't get Firefox to open - process runs in task manager but no window comes up at all. Have been using it on this system for a long time with no issues. It isn't the process already running issue which most of us know.
Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to no avail. I have no other monitor connected and desktop is not extended to an imaginary monitor where it may be opening. Running on Windows Vista.
The problem started when Firefox hung / crash / froze trying to run a video applet on a website (bbc.co.uk).
Is this an issue with any kind of known resolution or must I find a new browser after years being comfortable with Firefox?

I have exactly the same problem with both Firefox and Thunderbird, under my Windows Vista OS. However, I can get both running using the following cumbersome method. In the Task Manager right click the entry firefox.exe in the process window. Choose "Properties" from the drop-down list and then choose the "Previous Versions" tab. In my case it showed a so-called "shadow copy" dated about four weeks previously and when I selected this and clicked "Open" then Firefox opened normally, though rather slowly. Unfortunately this does not solve the problem because after Firefox is closed the same problem recurs next time I try to open it. However, if the "Restore" button is available (it was not for me) in the "Previous Versions" window then you might be able to restore an older but working copy. You can also get to the "previous versions" window by right clicking the firefox.exe file in the installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ ).
This is a really unfortunate development in Firefox and Thunderbird that will force people to abandon them and move to equivalent Microsoft products that do not have these problems. Mozilla developers please act on this problem urgently.

  • Firefox will not load - have tried everything - Vista on HP Pavilion laptop

tried deleting whole mozilla folder, tried every known version of mozilla version 3.x, etc. absolutely will not load

    Hello
I just bought an Ipod as what tryingto get itunes to load for 5 hours last Friday night and another 4 hours on Saturday til my head exploaded
I then installed an older version of itunes and it worked but the new version didn't
In the end I re-installed XP home as a "repair" not clean install so that I wouldn't loose any work on my PC and within 40 minutes or so whatever was missing from my PC was installed and itunes 6 went on with no problem
My advise is don't go round the houses like I did, just "repair" your XP installation and it's done
Well, it did for me at least
    Hope this helps
