Firefox will not open some pdfs, says file is damaged, in other browsers no problem.

The error message I get when choosing to open a PDF from a web page is; "There is an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."
I don't have this problem using Safari or PC Browsers.

Tried that but it made no difference whatever

My AI program (CS5 Illustrator 15.1.0) will not open some PDFs. It was working just yesterday, but now will only open a PDF if the graphics of the PDF is visible in the box that appears in the lower left corner of the dialog box after you click Open. The file size does not seem to matter. Any ideas?

    Hello Kathie,
Sorry for the inconvenience that has caused to you.
Please let me know if you have tried converting any other PDF to word with Reader.
Alos, please sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials. Click on 'ExportPDF' tab and upload the PDF that you want to convert to Word.
Let me know if this converts fine.
    Hope to hear from you.

    Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac).
#In the Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac) window, select the ''Applications'' panel.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right hand side you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.

I am an ordinary user and use FireFox on a Windows XP pro sp2 OS.
I can open and run FireFox by a variety of methods, and do not need to have any firefox: folders, files, or shortcuts on my Desktop unless I so wish.
I suspect you have a rather none standard installation. The quickest solution may well be to uninstall FireFox ( which you have presumably not been able to use anyway) and reinstall it. I would suggest; at least initially; you just use the standard default installation you are offered.
You will probably find this page of use, the [http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/3.6.13/releasenotes/ Release Notes], it includes links for downloading FireFox, and has advice and information about installing and downloading.
I am sure you will have further questions when you try to install but click on the blue link above and look at that page and then post back again and I am sure someone will try to help you.
I am assuming that you are already on the Internet with a browser such as Internet Explorer, and a broadband connection, or are you trying to install from a CD or something that has a FireFox install file on it. (if so what are you using, and what is the version of firefox)

  • Firefox will not open Adobe PDF files on my mini Mac (I have reader x and the latest Quicktime versions)

When I try to download a pdf file sometimes an error message appears and states can't down load file, Quicktime may need an extension. Other times the page just stays blank - nothing happens.
This happens very frequently. I can open some pdf files in Firefox. The problem appears with downloading.
I have the same software in Safari and Firefox and I do not have this problem with Safari - I can download PDFs in that browser

What I did was to reinstall/upgrade Adobe Reader, then there is an new option showing up in Firefox > options > applications > Portable Document Format(PDF), which is "use adobe acrobat in Firefox". Choose this one, then I managed again to open PDF files with Adobe Reader internally in Firefox.

  • Photoshop will not open some of my files

I recently had a hard drive crash. I sent it to a recovery company and they returned my files on a new hard drive. Many of the images were recovered but some show up as CR2 files or psd files that photoshop will not open. The message says that this is a file format that PS does not recognize. These files seem to be no different from my other CR2 files and psd. files but the thumbnails don't show up in Bridge and PS will not open them. Can anyone tell me how to get these files to open?

I thought this following suggestion to use GIMP to open stubborn PSD files was brilliant:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3306200#3306200
you may also want to try using the DNG converter with your CR2 files:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4923
    it's worth a try, but it's a long shot.

  • Firefox will not open at all, no message , nothing. The other browser (internet explorer) opens fine. Do I delete the old program and reinstall it? It works fine on the other two accounts on this computer.

no other details, I click on foxfire, the hourglass figure
appears for a few seconds then goes off and nothing else happens.

Try the procedures in the [[Firefox will not start]] article.

  • Firefox will not open Foxit PDF Reader

I am using Firefox 34.0 and Foxit PDF Reader 7.0.6.1126.
Until a few weeks ago, when I clicked a PDF file I was asked if to open the Foxit Reader or to download the file. Now the file is downloaded whatever I do. I have tried different options in Firefox, e. g. "Always ask", but nothing helps. What can I do to get back the possibility to open the Foxit Reader in Firefox?

  • Will not open some pdf's from certain people

I belong to a yahoo group and we share pdf's back and forth very frequently.  I have at this point 3 seperate email addresses that I cannot open their pdf's.  Nobody else appears to have any issue with these pdf's.  Having said that, these are the only pld's I am haveing trouble with at this time.  I have Acrobat Pro, new version of Reader on a Mac Pro with OS x 10.6.8, and also sent them on to my PC and a friend with a Mac Pro.  The group does not seem to be having trouble with these emails.
    monty

Thanks for the quick reply - The message reads - 'There was an error opening this document.  The file is damaged and could not be repaired.'  As far as I know most if not all of the members use some form of acrobat.
What is interesting is that a member, who I do not have problems reading his PDF's, sent me the same files sent to him from these folks and they opened with no problem.
I have asked all three to send me what their basic setup is, only one has replied to the moment.   = IAdober Reader XII, Acrobat Professional 6.0 and O.S Windows XP Professional

You may have to uninstall iTunes and re-install it from apple.com/itunes

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser_will_not_start_up
Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Firefox will not load certain url's/websites that work in other browsers

Whenever I try to load a website beginning with stk.co (e.g. stks.co/q1CqL ) Firefox gives the following error message:

How can fix this and/or configure firefox to load this url?

  • Firefox will not open any pdf links, it doesn't attempt to load the link, and i just get a white screen.

I cannot open pdf file links. How can I fix this. nothing happens when I click on a pdf link, a new window/tab will open up and it does not attept to load a page, I just get a blank window.

I had this problem and managed to fix it.
I went to the "Add-ons Manager" in Firefox then to the "Plugins" tab. I then disabled the Adobe Acrobat plugin and all other pdf plugins. This fixed my problems.

  • Acrobat 7 will not open some pdf's and requires Korean Lge. pack?

Why?  some open fine...others not at all...is this an upgrade issue.  I also get a "gentrix plug in not compatible" error every time it opens, but somehow has no effect on the viewing of the pdf.

That isn't an upgrade issue. It happens if the PDF uses Korean fonts (or related technology) and you don't have the fonts installed. If you install the font pack, the issue should go away.
Never heard of a gentrix plug-in. Maybe something specific to these files, maybe something on your system.
Is this on a public web site? If so a link may be interesting.
