I too have had this problem a few times with several different versions of FF.
What you need to do is to open a window to Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and on the 'Processes' tab look down the list for Firefox, highlight the entry, then click "End Process". Accept the warning that pops up. You should then be able to uninstall.

Firefox will not open - I have reinstalled and used the profile manager solution. It was fine earlier today. IE working fine.

I tried the suggested solutions including the 'clean install', any help would be most appreciated. I've used the Profile Manager, which is not much use when the browser won't even open to test it. I've also reinstalled twice, installed updates and restarted numerous times.

You should check for malware or go back into regular mode and see if temorarily disabling your antivirus helps.

I resolved the problem. I went to CNet and re-downloaded the upgrade. It proceeded as intended and the upgrade is installed and running with no loss of plug-ins, bookmarks, etc.

Some how I solved my problem by opening a user account and downloading Firefox 4.0 beta and installing it, I did try it, worked fine, so I did close the user account and did go back to my own account(switched user), the main page that I had problem with Firefox which would not open, I dabble click on Firefox it start working again!! Firefox will not save my user name and password for one of my sites. How can I fix this problem. It is getting annoying having to reenter every time I check this site. Is there a solution.

You can create a bookmark with the JavaScript code via a right-click on the "Remember Password" link on the squarefree.com website and choose "Bookmark This Link" and select the "Bookmarks Toolbar" as the destination folder for easy access.

Firefox will not open unless i reboot and the "send Link" option no longer works

after firefox is opened it works fine for awhile and then when i close the browser the desktop icon is unresponsive to o pen again unless i reboot. also, the "send Link" option, that always worked before, now does not.

I had tried this before, but went ahead and tried this again.
I clicked on "reset Firefox". Firefox closed, but did not come back up. When I tried to open it again, I did receive a message that said Firefox is running but is not responding, that I couldn't open another window without stopping the processes on the other page.
I never got a window that showed me the information that was imported, or a place to click finish.
Since I don't believe this completed, I don't believe my problem will be solved.

All of the App Tabs I have set when I close Firefox will not open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again.

Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

I have no navigation bar and firefox will not open in safe mode to reset to default config. Reinstalling doesn't work. Any help please.

I have no navigation bar ever since I closed it to gain more space on the screen. It won't re-open. Firefox will not open in safe mode, but opens immediately in normal mode with the new improper config, so I cannot reset to default config. I erased Firefox and re-installed and it still opens with the same faulty config. Why does Firefox not give me the safe mode dialog box, why can I not re-open the nav bar, and how can I do these two things, please? Firefox is currently unusable for me without a nav bar and without access to the default settings in safe mode. Firefox will not open unless I run it in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP 3), run it as an administrator, or launch it immediately after a reinstall (the reinstall thing only works once.) How do I fix this?

This morning, Firefox crashed. After this, when I click the Firefox icon, the hourglass appears and then nothing happens. Firefox does briefly appear in the task manager when I do this.
I tried rebooting. I tried reinstalling multiple times. (Firefox will run when I select "Launch Firefox" from the installer. Then the problem occurs again.) I tried safe mode. I changed the privacy settings on Firefox preferences, including clearing cookies, history and cache, and now Firefox will not open at all.
