  • My Firefox will not search for websites

My Firefox will not search for websites etc. I put in a parameter and it will not do anything. When I use anything else (such as Yahoo! search) it works fine. I type in a word/website/name etc. into the search box on Firefox and nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and still it won't work.

A few notes for the morning:
    (1) If you used the Reset Firefox feature, a folder will have appeared on your desktop named Old Firefox Data. Please retain that folder so you can revert your Reset if needed.
    (2) I don't know why you would intentionally open the IP addresses of servers that have demonstrated their untrustworthiness by relaying spam to you. If you want to find out who controls a server, you can look it up on one of the regional registries for IP addresses:
    * RIPE (for Europe): http://www.ripe.net/ (RIPE Database search box mid-page)
    * ARIN (for North America): https://www.arin.net/ (Search WHOIS upper right)
    * APNIC (for Asia): http://www.apnic.net/ (Whois Search to the right of the image)

  • When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. How can I resolve this?

    Question
When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. When I swap to private browsing firefox allows me to anter the website address directly into the location bar - but this is a slow [prcess to swap back and forth - also by dint of using private browsing I loose my website information.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Firefox will not start

I have been using Forefox on Windows 7 with no problem. Last week we had a spell of hot weather, and in the middle of searching for something it suddenly crashed and closed. I rebooted and now Firefox will not open. The cursor flashes but the browser is just not there. I uninstalled and reinstalled several times but no go. IE and email work fine but I don't like IE. I want Firefox back. Help!

  • Firefox will not let me get on any websites (safe AND not safe), claiming that it "may pose a security threat to your system"; when I try to choose the "proceed unprotected" option, it won't let me.

My computer's anti-virus software recently expired. A few days later, I went to download a new anti-virus software . . . when I opened up Firefox, I received a warning that claimed Firefox was infected with "Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen", and gave me two options: "Activate XP Security 2011 (recommended)" (this was a $60 charge and required credit card info) or "Continue unprotected (Dangerous)"
Since I needed to install new anti-virus, I figured I would continue unprotected, download my new software quickly, and remove the virus. But when Firefox opened, it gave me a message saying: "Firefox alert. Visiting this site may pose a security threat to your system!". Gave me three options:
    1. "Get a copy of 'XP Security 2011' to safeguard your PC while surfing the web (RECOMMENDED)"
    2. "Run a spyware, virus and malware scan" (I already did this)
    3. "Continue surfing without any security measures (DANGEROUS)"
I tried clicking on different links, but the same warning kept showing up, even on verified and safe sites. I tried to choose the third option so that I could download my anti-virus software quickly, but nothing happened when I clicked on it - the page reloads and the warning shows up again.
My computer is still without anti-virus software because Firefox will not let me surf the internet. Please help!

It sounds as though your PC is infected with fake antivirus software. The detailed cleanup instructions vary depending on which fake AV you have. However, as a first step, try this:
Download the following on a different PC, copy them to a USB flash drive or CD, and then run them on the infected PC:
    Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
    SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/
Hopefully these will get you back online safely. If not, search for clean-up instructions for the specific malware.

  • (second time) Two questions - One is, Firefox will not sign me in completely and remember passweords., shown in details. Two- how to stop the loading animations

Since no one is replying, i have to try again
    Deatails for number 1:
Firefox will not sign me in and remember my passwords at all. It first started on this site, New Jersey Online (NJ.com). I created an account there and Firefox will not log me in. That happened, January 3rd, 2012.
    About NJ.com problem
I created an account there. Then I signed into my new account. I did get correct username and password. But the browser does not log me into the acount. I looked all around NJ.com for answer and my problem was not in the forums/blogs.
On Jan 4, 2012 - On the City Data forum I logged into my account there.
About the city data forum problem
I logged into my account there.
Firefox asked me if I want to remember this passwod, i said Yes. The box in city data forum has a remember be box I checked it.
The result means- I did not get signed in at all.
I tried multiple times, none worked.
I allowed firefox to do these things -
    1. Remember browsing history for at lease one day
    2. Remember download histroy.
    3. Accept cookies from sites, including third party cookies, until their expiration
    4. Clear the folowing when firefox closes: browsing history, download history, and form/search history.
I feel afraid this problem is gonna hsppen forever (and maybe even on this site!), and it will not sign me in to any site on the internet.
    Number 2 Question
Any way to disable the loading animation in Firefox 3.6.15? it makes me forget what I was going to do. it's also shown in the addon update information. PLease help me disable the loading animation Everywhere in the Firefox browser.
For other sites with loading animations, I can use the Adblock plus element hiding helper . Just need to remove the animations by firefox
Please help me ASAP (as soon as possible), thank you!

  • FF4 home page will not search.

Having just upgraded to FF4 I find that it will not search anything from the Mozilla home page. I can open bookmarked sites or use the search box in the toolbar.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?<br/> ''A troubleshooting mode.''<br />
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. <br />
    2. Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.''
If not, see this: <br />

  • Time to time firefox will not load, says it is running but cant close and reopen

Every once in a while Firefox will not run, it says something about a file in the profile directory and that it is running and to close the current session or restart. I run task manager but it isn't running. It seems to fix when I clean my computer, I haven't noticed a pattern to this it's just from time to time.

Please see this article: [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]]

  • The last week, Firefox will not load up the NEW YORK TIMES. So, I have had to use Safari to do so. If this continues, I'm going to quit using your browser, and begin using Safari all the time!

The last week, Firefox will not load up the NEW YORK TIMES. So, I have had to use Safari to do so. If this continues, I'm going to quit using your browser, and begin using Safari all the time!

There are several other similar posts in this forum with the answers. Your post appears third in my Google search today looking for a solution so I thought I'd add the solution here as well.
It is obviously a bug in either (or both) Firefox and the NYT.
The quickest solution is to simply go to the VIEW Menu in Firefox, then the ZOOM option and choose RESET.
I use Mac and this happens in Firefox 3.6.10. It does not happen in other browsers like Safari, Chrome and Camino, and it did not occur before last week.
It has also occurred in the iOS version of Safari on iPad. Not sure how to fix it there.

  • Beginning last week, Firefox will not connect to the internet.

Firefox will not access the internet at all. This began suddenly and not immediately following a change in Firefox or my computer.

Maybe you have a malware infection.
    See:
    *[[/forums/contributors/707453]]
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br />

  • I have installrd Fire Fox which I had before but now it will not search for me

Yes I have had Mozilla fire fox before for some time but it played up so I uninstalled it and the reinstalled it

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.
Check the <b>browser.search.defaultenginename</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.

  • Firefox will not open. I have used it for two years.

For 2 years, until yesterday, Firefox worked well. I opened it, using the "Internet" button on the keyboard, or from the start menu. Now, nothing responds. Yesterday, when Mozilla was running, the top part of the screen display disappeared. The "search" message filled the whole screen. I tried clicking on Mozilla in the Start tableau, and the "All Programs" tableau. Nothing. According to the Control Panel, Mozilla, all 26.97 megabytes, is still there.

For some things you can try see [[Firefox will not start]].
I would start by seeing if a new profile works. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows creating a new Firefox profile on Windows - MozillaZine Knowledge Base]
If the new profile does work, you can transfer selected data such as bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. I would not copy preferences or extensions, instead re-install the extensions. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox Transferring data to a new profile - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base]

  • Windows 7 ffox 1.6.16 installed office 2010 intimated cannot open link outlook firefox default browser, firefox will not initiate at all. Have to restart to get any response from firefox which then works but it crashes again. No error message

Windows 7, firefox 1.6.16 just installed office 2010, sometimes cannot open a link in outlook and firefox is my default browser, and firefox will not initiate at all. Have to restart computer to get any response which then works but after a while it crashes again. Was this due to an update or office 2010 has a hidden setting somewhere? Why would firefox crash without any message? Intimated consuming

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.
