Firefox will not start up when I click on its icon. As far as I can see, all of the programme files are present.

Firefox was working perfectly earlier today. This evening, when I tried to start Firefox as I usually do by clicking on its icon in the Windows 7 quick start bar there was no resonse. The same thing happens when I click on the application icon in the Windows Firefox programme folder. Is ther any way that this can be fixed easily?

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to see if the firefox.exe process is running. If it is, terminate it and try to run Firefox again.
If that doesn't help, try running Firefox in safe mode. If it works like that, maybe it'll work again in normal mode.

Rather difficult to say what the problem may be at present but for general info please have a look at

Note sometimes you may have to wait a while for firefox to shutdown completly, and if it has hung then as explained in the above articles you may need to kill any firefox.exe process that is still running (and maybe plugincontainer.exe)
Try starting firefox in [[safe mode]] e.g. by holding down shift key

If firefox is crashing see [[firefox crashes]], this is easier to work through if you can get firefox to start without crashing on startup. I believe that this is due to some incompatibility with the latest update of Java. I believe that one of the tabs from my previous session included a Java application, and this is causing the difficulty. In recent days, since the last update of Java, I have had difficulty in loading linked pages with Java applications into Firefox, and have needed to switch to a different browser to do this.
Now I cannot even start the browser, presumably due to the presence of a Java application on one of the restored tabs.

You can try to disable the Java Quick starter and the Java Console extension in the Control Panel > Java.

Now it will always ask if you want to Open or Save the file.
b) If already downloaded, check what's under Get Info > Open with
It should say Open With DiskImageMounter (see pic)

It sounds like you may have a problem caused by an extension (maybe that avery toolbar)

When trying to open Firefox it trys to connect to restore the prevoius session (not responding) and will not start. I uninstalled then reinstalled and it is still stuck. I have to X the box and use the popup to close the noresponsive program

Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well. 
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

There might be more information from the crash report, but it might just tell us you are crashing the first time Firefox tries to use a font.
One thing I suppose you could do is select only those fonts you've got in Tools -> Options -> Content -> Fonts and Colors -> Advanced and then uncheck the '''Allow pages to use their own fonts''' option.

When I shut down or restart my computer, Firefox will not start. I will click the shortcuts, but nothing happens. There is no error message and as far as I know from searching, I have no security applications prohibiting it from starting. Once I reinstall after my computer loads, it works perfectly. also, if the above doesn't work, see if you can start firefox in [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode#os=win7&browser=fx19 safe mode] by by holding down the shift key while starting Firefox.

Thanks for your help. I had tried starting Firefox in safe-mode before I posted this request, but it did not work. I tried to restore the system to an earlier version, but that made everything worse. Two accounts were unusable and one sort of worked, so I reloaded the operating system and now firefox works, for how long, I don't know. But thanks again for your suggestion.

Firefox will not start, after reboot.

For a few months now Firefox will not start after I reboot my computer. In order to get it to start I click the exe then must go into task manager kill it, click the exe again, kill it again then, from there it will typically start, but sometimes it may take one or two more trys. When clicking the exe firefox will appear in the task manager under processes but will will start with ~7% CPU usage, then quickly drop to zero every time until it does actually open and start. I have ran a full system recovery and started anew after reinstalling mozilla several times failed to fix the problem. I run virus and spyware checks often and come up clean, and also run Chrome as a default browser.

You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. Thanks jschaer2000: after starting it once in safe mode, I closed Mozilla and tried several restarts in normal mode. So far, all worked:-)

Still the automatic update process bothers me: it took me several days to discover the reason to the malfunction, since when I removed the problematic version from Add and Remove Programs, I didn't pay attention at first that it was another version, not v26 which I installed from my folder.
In addition, I like to save the installation files before I run new programs and if I didn't have v26 exe file, I couldn't have operated Mozilla at all. Not that it was fun to remove and install again each time v27 didn't react, but it was better than nothing, I still prefer Mozilla over its competition.
