Firefox will not start when computer is restarted.

When I shut down or restart my computer, Firefox will not start. I will click the shortcuts, but nothing happens. There is no error message and as far as I know from searching, I have no security applications prohibiting it from starting. Once I reinstall after my computer loads, it works perfectly. How can I fix this so I don't have to reinstall Firefox daily when I turn on my computer?

Hello ShirodieSchone, try to run Firefox once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).
also, if the above doesn't work, see if you can start firefox in [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode#os=win7&browser=fx19 safe mode] by by holding down the shift key while starting Firefox.
Otherwise try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) and see if that helps.
thank you

You perhaps can install Audigy 2 drivers and software to your card. Here are the instructions how to do it.
It's quite easy process. Download Audigy driver/software package (~20MB) (link is there), extract it into some directory. Download the patch (link is on Automatic Method sentence)and follow instructions how to patch the instalation package. Then installation process. I've modded my Audigy 2 to Audigy 2 Zs using a similiar method and everyting else, but GraphicMixer, works great.

  • Firefox will not start when "firefox.exe" is typed in the start menu

I usually use Firefox 10.0a1 UX experimental build. I know it's "unstable", but it works just fine for me. Anyways, it was feeling slow today, and was constantly hanging, so I decided to run '''firefox.exe -safe-mode''' from the start menu. I got the error: '''The procedure entry point NS_SetDllDirectory could not be located in the dynamic link library xul.dll.''' When I looked at the task manager, it showed that Minefield (the old name for nightly builds) was trying to run. I didn't even know I had Minefield, as I reinstalled Nightly after they changed the branding (around 5.0-6.0 nightly builds). My question is: How do I change the default '''firefox.exe''' to point to '''C:\Program Files (x86)\ux\firefox.exe''' and/or how do I resolve that error?

I don't know about the error message you got but that is not the way to start a different version of Firefox -- include the pathname. And if you are trying to share a profile that is bad also as you could damage a profile, though Mozilla does try to avoid damaging, you should not mix the production version profile with one of a beta unless you are looking to create/solve additional problems for those that inadvertently do that. What does the UX stand for after 10.a1

  • Firefox will not start at all ... not even profile mananger will start

After an auto overnight reboot initiated by a Windows update (XP 5.1 SP3) Firefox will not start at all ... not even Profile Manager ... all that happens is a few seconds of hourglass on the cursor and then nothing ... this is happening on two different computers at the same time ... identical symptoms ... any advice?
== After overnight reboot by auto Windows update

I had the problem after I restarted the computer when Firefox indicated that was needed to install updates. After that every attempt to start Firefox resulted in no response at all. I went to my program list and found Firefox Safe Mode. That started OK. I then closed it. After that Firefox started OK.

  • Firefox will not start until reboot

I am using FF newest version, win 7, etc. I have a very strange problem. Sometimes, once every 2-4 days, my FF will not start when the computer first start. That's when the computer cold boot, I click on FF and nothing happens. I looked in task manager and there is no "firefox.exe" running. If I reboot the machine, now it boots properly. I tried clicking on the shortcut on desktop, in "All Program" or navigate to the location of "firefox.exe" on disk. I have no fancy addon's. Google TB, Download helper, Ad block plus, and Skype addon, noscript, siteadvisor, DNA (bittorrent client for Asus), Chatzilla. Any suggestion on how I can diagnose/fix this problem? tx

Hello friend, i have a suggestion:
Sometimes my Firefox closes and the same thing happens... So I close the process, on the Task Manager (famous ctrl + alt + del on Windows) and start Firefox again. Try it!:D

  • Firefox will not start, after reboot.

For a few months now Firefox will not start after I reboot my computer. In order to get it to start I click the exe then must go into task manager kill it, click the exe again, kill it again then, from there it will typically start, but sometimes it may take one or two more trys. When clicking the exe firefox will appear in the task manager under processes but will will start with ~7% CPU usage, then quickly drop to zero every time until it does actually open and start. I have ran a full system recovery and started anew after reinstalling mozilla several times failed to fix the problem. I run virus and spyware checks often and come up clean, and also run Chrome as a default browser.

    Hello Tom.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

After upgrading to 27, firefox will not start. Saw an error message during the upgrade process but cannot remember.

Running on Windows XP SP3. No problem whatsoever before upgrading to 27. Sending this from Chrome as I cannot open Firefox at all.

Thanks jschaer2000: after starting it once in safe mode, I closed Mozilla and tried several restarts in normal mode. So far, all worked:-)
    Thank you very much again.
Still the automatic update process bothers me: it took me several days to discover the reason to the malfunction, since when I removed the problematic version from Add and Remove Programs, I didn't pay attention at first that it was another version, not v26 which I installed from my folder.
In addition, I like to save the installation files before I run new programs and if I didn't have v26 exe file, I couldn't have operated Mozilla at all. Not that it was fun to remove and install again each time v27 didn't react, but it was better than nothing, I still prefer Mozilla over its competition.

After removing system fonts and reinstalling fonts, FireFox will not start! When I start FireFox the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" opens as if FF just crashed??? The files with submitted crash report ids are inside the ''submitted '' directory, from the directory you found the LastCrash.txt timestamp file.
The file names will begin with '''bp-'''
There might be more information from the crash report, but it might just tell us you are crashing the first time Firefox tries to use a font.
One thing I suppose you could do is select only those fonts you've got in Tools -> Options -> Content -> Fonts and Colors -> Advanced and then uncheck the '''Allow pages to use their own fonts''' option.
    See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Content+panel#Fonts_Dialog
