  • Firefox will not run after System restore or running in compatibility mode for windows 98. How do I fix this? I already tried all other solutions on this site.

    I was running Firefox fine just yesterday. I screwed up the registry a litle while removing an installed program completely, so I restored the system and everything appeared to work fine. I then decided to play an old video game, Return to Krondor, which was made back in 1998, so I ran the program with no other programs running in compatibility for windows 98. After finishing the game, I closed it and put the computer in hibernation mode. I come back today and firefox will not run at all. It is not running in the background and there are no programs running. There are no services running which could interfere with it. I think somehow Firefox may think I'm in compatibility mode still, but I have no idea.
    I'm running windows Vista 32 - bit with an AMD 2.4ghz processor, 4gb ram on an Emachine computer. I have already tried system restore, restart, processes etc. Nothing works. I can still run Internet explorer and all other programs.

    The person that I was assisting, has Windows 7 which has 64 bit system. Her browser was IE 10.
    Was IE11 ever offered (or installed) via Windows Update?
    Is her computer currently fully-patched at Windows Update?
    Is Adobe Shockwave Player v12.1 (or higher) installed on her computer?
    Is Adobe Flash Player v15.0.0.189 (or higher) installed on her computer?

  • After refomatting HDD, reinstalling Vista plus service packs, recovering files from Microsoft backup and installing new copy of Firefox 3.6, Firefox will not run. Have deleted all old M0zilla profile folders and reinstalled Firefox again to no avail.

    After computer would not boot and could not be repaired, I reformatted the HDD, reinstalled Vista plus all service packs and updates, recovered files from Microsoft backup and installed new copy of Firefox 3.6. Firefox will not run.
    I have deleted all old M0zilla profile folders and reinstalled Firefox again to no avail.
    After intallation was completed, the automatic startup just placed a small box on the screen "Import wiz". This just sat there with no activity. After I closed this box, none of the Firefox start buttons would open the program -- just the blue rotating icon for about 2 seconds then nothing.

  • Firefox will not run except on new download.

    Firefox will not start under any circumstance from any shortcut, nor when started under Administrator or in safe-mode or with all apps disabled. It will start after a new download but only once. I cannot access profile manager from start/run, each time I get a 'Parsing error' message. I have tried basic removing and also removing complete with all profile details. I have performed re-starts after deletion and before and after re-installing. I have tried backdating the computer many times to different dates and the best result is an 'XML error' message on re-start attempt. Internet Explorer still works but frequently with 'Error on page' message. I have Mcafee installed but have had for years with no previous problems.

  • Firefox will not run for mulitple instances of the SAME user account on Windows Multipoint Server 2011

    We have an HP MS6200 MulitSeat PC
    It is running Microsoft Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 (which appears to be a tweaked version of Windows 7)
    It is set up in a computer lab, and students log in using their shared room account - ie multiple instances of the same user accounts are running on the PC at the same time.
    The first student to run Firefox can work with it without problem.
    However when another student tries to start firefox they get the following message:
    Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
    I managed to get this to work by using:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profile "%temp%\ffprof" -no-remote
    This works because Windows assigns a different temp location for each instance of a user
    Thanks for your help

  • Firefox will not run properly now

    I really need help getting my Firefox to run properly. Earlier this evening I downloaded the epub reader addon from the Firefox addon website. After that I noticed my Firefox was using yahoo as the search engine instead of Google. I've tried the obvious set it to Google but it kept going to Yahoo. I also uninstalled the addon but it still kept searching on Yahoo. So I searched for solutions online. Then I tried the Help>Troubleshooting Information Restart Firefox. This when all the problems began.
    Now every time I go to Google.com or search on the Google toolbar I get the This Connection is Untrusted message
    Screenshot: http://imgur.com/BttGmGU
    Also when I go to certain websites like the mozilla firefox add on website it will not load properly
    Screenshot: http://imgur.com/oIz0XgE
    Can anybody help me with this? I've tried the obvious options like uninstalling and reinstalling but my Firefox refuses to perform normally. Also I still have the old Firefox Data. Is there a way I can restore that data?

    Check out why the site is untrusted (click "Technical Details to expand that section) and if this is caused by a missing intermediate certificate then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
    You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
    *Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
    Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
    *Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
    You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
    If "I Understand the Risks" is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
    Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.

  • Firefox will not run since it says I will have to close it first. Further I am unable to set my homepage settings to the required one by me.

    My homepage switched to a website I do not wish. I am unable to get my desired homepage back by using the menu. Later on Mozilla won't even run. he message I get that it should be closed first. Whilst the program is closed.

    Your User Agent shows that you have '''Ask Toolbar''' installed. Ask Toolbar has been causing many problems in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. So '''Remove/Uninstall''' that extension.
    -> click '''Firefox''' button and click '''Exit'''
    There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    -> Check the Windows Control Panel for the Ask Toolbar -
    * http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    -> '''Start Firefox in Safe Mode''' (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes)
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    * Firefox Safe Mode window will open. DON'T SELECT ANY OPTIONS, just click '''Continue in Safe Mode'''
    -> Check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there -
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons
    -> Removing a Search Engine -
    * https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Search%20bar#w_removing-a-search-engine
    -> Now to Open the '''about:config''' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the URL of a website to open a website. When you see a warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
    * Preferences that have been modified are shown as '''bold(user set)'''.
    * Preferences can be '''Reset to the default''' or changed via the right-click context menu.
    -> In the '''Filter bar''' at to top of the about:config page, type '''keyword.URL''' to isolate that single entry.
    * Right click it and choose '''Modify''' -> Replace the text with http://www.google.com/search?q= and then click OK.
    -> In the Filter bar at the top again, remove "keyword.URL" and then copy/paste '''browser.startup.homepage'''
    * right-click it and choose '''Reset''' from the menu.
    -> In the Filter bar at the top again, remove '''browser.startup.homepage''' and then copy/paste '''browser.search.selectedEngine'''
    * right-click it and choose '''Reset''' from the menu.
    -> In the Filter bar at the top again, type '''ask.com'''. This will show the remaining '''ask.com''' related preferences.
    * '''Reset''' all '''ask.com''' related Preferences to their Default values.
    -> Close the tab and then Restart Firefox.
    Check and tell if its working.

  • Firefox will not run after update (3.6 8.0) WinXP

    I noticed that my mother's laptop was running Firefox 3.6 still, and offered to update. I downloaded 8.0, and ran the install. Had no issues with the install, no errors, nothing. I told it to run after the install finished, and it never came up. I tried the icon, still nothing. I downloaded Firefox 7.0, and installed it, figuring there might have been an issue with 8.0, since it just came out, nd tried it, same result. I rebooted the system, and tried again, still nothing happens, just the little hourglass for a moment, and then.. nothing. There is nothing in the task manager, no process for firefox. I tried running the profile manager and the plain program from the run under the start menu of windows with antivirus turned off, and got nothing there either.
    I'm running windows XP Pro
    ::edit::
    I was able to re-instal 3.6.24 back over top, and it works, but I would like to update it for her still, if it can be done.

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox will not run a WebEx Meeting even though Java Script is Enabled! I am on 4.0, is this a beta version of FireFox? Are you going to Support Java anytime soon?

    I am getting the following error after going in and setting up a WebEx meeting. I will not be able to use FireFox unless you get the ability to enable Java:
    "Java Not Enabled
    Meeting Center cannot be installed because Java is disabled in your Web browser. Please enable Java in your browser, and then click Set Up again. For instructions on enabling Java, refer to your browser's online help.
    If Java cannot be enabled for any reason, you can download the manual installer and install it from your desktop by double-clicking the installer icon."
    I enabled Java, added WebEx to all secure sites and performed every possible check known to man. This is on your end FireFox.
    Do you have an ETA when 4.0 will support Java?

    I will not pretend to know any answers to your problems, but I do wonder if you realise Firefox did decide to produce and support an Extended Stability Release, unfortunately this is NOT going to be based on Firefox 3.6. but on Firefox 10.

  • Firefox will not run - double click on icon, select icon and run/open, opening via start menu are all dead

    Problem started yesterday (9/28). While in Firefox, bookmarks stopped working. Closed out FF and tried to reopen the program, and nothing causes FF to launch. Tried double clicking on the desktop icon, single click on the bottom status bar (on XP), right click on icon to open or run, trying via Start -> All Programs -> Mozilla and neither regular or safe mode would launch. Only thing that seems to fix the problem is a full restart of the computer. Tried downloading the newest version via Chrome. When I clicked to run the install, kept getting a message to close all FF windows, even though there were no FF windows open.

    Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
    Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".<br />
    Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
    Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.

  • Uninstalled Firefox using Revo Uninstaller (advanced mode) in Vista, and now Firefox will not run, period. No task in task manager. What dependencies did I screw up?

    I wanted to reinstall Firefox to get rid of all the old Java libraries still installed. I uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller in Advanced mode, and I didn't bother checking what it did this time. I know firefox needs something to exist before it will start, otherwise I wouldn't be having this problem.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I uninstalled Firefox with Revo Uninstaller in Advanced Mode ==
    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.38 Safari/533.4

    Yes, it needs the user profile, I think. Granted you probably lost all your bookmarks and passwords and history and so on...
    Go to your [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles profile folder] and delete it (or back it up, maybe there's stuff you can scavange from there).
    Try to reinstall Firefox now. It should create a new profile.
    And the Java stuff will still be there. It is uninstalled separately at your operating system's control panel, I believe. You can disable the plugins you don't want, too. Just go into Tools > Add-ons > Plugins.
    And for future reference, if you uninstall Firefox and check the box that says to delete your private data too, it will clean every single trace of Firefox from your computer. This isn't some fishy software you download from a fishy site. Firefox is clean and safe to use :)

  • Firefox will not run in more than one desktop simultaneously. It will not connect in the second desktop unless it is first closed in the one already open.

    I don't know what I can add here.

    Sorry, I am not sure what is meant by a Windows account. My wife and I share an internet account, each with our own ID and password. We share a computer each with our own desktop. Prior to the last Mozilla update, it was common for each of us to have Mozilla open on our respective desktops. Since the update, that is no longer possible. If one of us has left Mozilla open, the other cannot open it on their desktop unless the first is closed. I hope that helps.
