  • Save/Open Window Goes Off Screen Bug

There's this one particular bug I've been having ever since I upgraded from OS X Maverick to Yosemite. Whenever I open/save a file, whether it's on the web browser or Finder, the open/save window goes off screen. I can still see the window but the bottom portion where you normally have the open, save, new folder and cancel buttons - is all the way at the bottom of the screen.
I can't scale it to its proper size because the window is buried beneath the Docks. The only way to rescale it is to click the arrow key button near the Save As drop down list but sometimes, this button is not there.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any idea how to fix it?

    Hello Steve:
It definitely sounds like the hot corner "all windows" is enabled. There is a preference file that needs to be trashed, but I cannot figure out which one (no help to you).
Be sure that none of the hot corners are enabled and then restart.
You might also try resetting PRAM (although I do not think that will do anything).

  • Window Goes Off-Screen When Mouse arrow Is Moved To Upper Right Hand Corner

It seems like this happened recently. When the mouse is moved and pointed to the upper right hand corner of the screen everything displayed goes off-screen to the right and left sides. The edge of the window is shown on the right side and a shadow on the left side- when I click on those everything pops back on-screen. I have a bad habit of moving my mouse quickly and this has become annoying.
I thought it may have been a "Hot Corner" but I checked and this feature is not enabled(in Expose/Dashboard)
How do I disable this feature?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Form going off screen

Hi all, new to flex and having what is probably a very simple issue.
    I have my s:Application.
    In here is an mx:Panel
in the panel is an mx:Form filled with mx:FormItems, including s:DropDownLists, s:TextInputs and s:TextAreas.
My Panel and form appear to be going off the bottom of the window.  I was expecting the panel to stop at the bottom of the window and a scroll bar appear but it doesnt.
If i set a height value in the Panel of say, 100, a scroll bar does get rendered.  I thought the obvious solution then was to apply height="100%" to the panel and form but this doesnt change anything and it still goes off the screen.  I've also applied Bottom values but that doesnt stop it going off screen.
The application has width and height of 100% set, and a VerticalLayout.  can someone tell me how to stop stuff going off the bottom of the window?  I'm sure it must be something simple but google doesnt help!
    Thanks
    Steven

OK So I've stopped the problem but am not going to mark it solved yet because I still have a question.  I set the Panel to layout="Absolute" and that fixed it.  Why does "vertical" let the panel go off screen and not bring up a scroll bar, do you always have to use Absolute?
Also, using s:Panel causes the problem regardless of what layout I apply, why?
    Thanks

  • When Safari is in full screen, the window slides off screen to the right after a short period of time.  How do I fix this?

When Safari is in full screen, window slides off screen to the right after a few seconds.  Does not happen if Safari is not full screen.  How do I fix this?

You are probably inadvertently swiping to another full-screen app. Are you using a magic trackpad? Does this happen without you touching anything?

  • SQL Management Studio -- Windows open off-screen!

I used to have three monitors hooked up to this computer, now I only have two. Most applications don't have any problem with this, except SQL Management Studio which keeps opening windows off the right-hand side of the screen which are impossible to move back on-screen! All I can do is right-click the window in the taskbar, then choose "maximize" to temporarily work with the window. (I don't want the window maximized, but that's the only way to make it visible!) Import/Export data wizard window does this, as does the "add new users to DB" window.
How do I reset window locations in SQL Management Studio? This is getting extremely annoying. And please, please fix this bug! It's the year 2007, your program should be able to cope with multiple monitors! (Imagine how many laptop users who hot-swap monitors all the time are running into this.)
    Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry if I gave the immpression that you couldn't move your screen around - and I did look into the bug. I would never knowingly lie to anyone. Once again, I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Microsoft has looked into the bug, and in fact, we've done a lot of work on the mulitple monitor support in SQL Server 2008, as I mentioned in my post. You should see an improvement there.

Your last reply on this thread was telling me that, and I quote: "SSMS has no notion of monitors - it just uses whatever Windows says are there. If you will remove the monitor from the video card settings then SSMS will not show the screens on something that does not exist." Which is incorrect, as my screenshot in the next post proved. Normally when people make a claim, and it's refuted, they respond in some fashion.
The annoyance is that it took a full year (and an irate post from me) for you to respond to that screenshot, and it still seems like you're unclear about the issue. It has nothing at all to do with "I can't move my screen around". Let's review the repro instructions one more time:
    1) Start with a computer running Windows XP Pro and three monitors plugged in, arranged in a horizontal line. The center monitor is the default.
    2) Open SSMS. Maximize it in the left-most monitor.
    3) In the Object Browser, select a database, expand "Security", expand "Users", then right-click in the list and select "New User"
    4) Move the New User window to the right-most monitor and maximize it.
    5) Close SSMS, then re-open it and bring up the New User window again. Notice that SSMS saves the window position so that it continues to open on the right-most monitor. (This is good!)
    6) Now unplug the right-most monitor and restart the computer. Go to the Monitors property sheet to ensure that there are only two monitors listed, and that the right-most (of the two) is still the default monitor.
    7) Open SSMS, then bring up the New User window once more. Notice that the New User window now opens off-screen.
The irony is that this bug doesn't even apply to me anymore as, after about 6 months, I got my third monitor back. But for those 6 months, I was getting this behavior MANY TIMES A DAY, driving me completely and utterly furious and crazy each time, because it's such a stupid and moronic and easy-to-fix bug. I don't understand how your QA process could possibly have missed windows opening off-screen.
(Like you suggested, if SSMS actually ensured that windows opened on monitors that actually exist, this whole thing would be a non-issue.)
I don't know what you mean by "can't move my screen around," as this has nothing to do with moving or repositioning screens. It has to do with a window that opens off-screen, so that it's impossible to use the window without doing one of the ugly hacks outlined in this thread.
I'm glad SQL Server 2008 has "lots of work on multiple monitor support" and I'd be extremely happy if it did what you <i>claimed</i> SSMS 2005 did a year ago.
Sorry for the tone. It's so upsetting to me that bugs related to multi-monitor support could exist in a product in use in 2005, after a full decade of Windows supporting multiple-monitors. Isn't this stuff perfected by now? Doesn't Microsoft have any kind of minimal quality control process, and why isn't this on it? It's hard to express how frustrating this is, both the bug and the lack of response to it.

  • Firefox window disappears off my screen

I hve uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. The icon is in the toolbar. It shows that the screen is open but I can not open it on my monitor. It disappears to the top right corner. I have been using firefox for years and not it doesnt work.

Try to start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u>:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
*On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
*Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
Try to open the system menu of that Firefox window via Alt+Space and see if you can move and resize that window (use the keyboard cursor keys).<br />
If that works then first close all other open Firefox windows and then close Firefox via "File > Exit/Quit" to save that setting.
If the above didn't help then see:

  • Windows move off screen when new app is opened

I have a user running 10.8.5. The user opens an application like Firefox or Safari. As soon as they open another application like Microsoft Word the browser or other application will shift off the screen. The finder is allowing only one window to show up on the screen at one time. I reset all keyboard shortcuts. Checked Mission Control, Launcher and couldn't find anything that would make this happen. They only have one display connected. I removed all the Office plist files and launched as a first time launch. I still can't find what is making the windows disappear or move off screen.
I logged on as a different user and the problem went away. So it has to be something in their profile that is causing this. Any ideas?

In OS X 10.6 and prior, Expose' and Spaces had a separate System Preference setting, along with hot corners. One of the options was to force apps to open in a new space.
That changed to become Mission Control with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. I haven't really used the feature in 10.8. I can't quickly find a useful Apple link, so I'll provide this 3rd-party 'Dummies book' link which might help you sort things out. Mouse and trackpad preferences also can be set to enable gestures that work in conjunction with Mission Control.

  • View coordinates window is off-screen

I have an unconventional dual-monitor setup while my laptop is docked. It's resulted in the coordinates window being located far off-screen. I've moved the secondary monitor around the desktop area to try and locate the window to move it back within view, but have not had success. I've undocked to try and locate the window but have not been successful. I've reset DIadem but this has not brought the window back in view. DIadem isn't very handy for my use without that window.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The first solution in the link goes through how to locate a window that is registered as a window with windows explorer, thus giving it a bar on the taskbar. Unfortunately the coordinate window isn't, so I can't locate it with the "move" action.
On the second solution, I should have been specific that I'm using windows XP, and a corporate image at that. I don't find appdata in my user folder (for XP that's C:\Documents and Settings\User\.appdata\). Where's the config file in XP?
EDIT: I actually just tried to use only the keyboard shortcuts immediately after enabling the coordinate window. DIadem's main window loses focus, so I figured perhaps the coordinate window is given focus. So, I hit Alt+space and the dialog box appears on my screen nearest to the location of the coordinate window. From there I can select "move" with the mouse and by moving the mouse after that, the coordinate window appears underneath it. Fixed!
    Howtogeek:
Note: For keyboard savvy people, you can just alt-tab to the window, use Alt+Space, then M, then Arrow key, and then move your mouse.

  • Mail composition window expands off screen

If I reply to an email or create a new email and start to type the email address, the composition window extends about 75% off screen. Does anybody have an idea of what is causing this? I do not believe I have changed my settings and have not installed any new software.

I take it you're talking about the dropdown panel in Rules panel in Mail > Preferences, when you click Edit?
You must have a rule with a whole lot of conditions and/or actions.
    What is your screen resolution?
I just experimented a bit, and suspect it's a bug, not "bad design". I notice as I add lines, and the panel approaches the bottom of the screen, the scroll bars appear, so the panel quits growing, as it should, but only 2 lines after they should. It looks to me like the height of the tool bar isn't being considered properly.
If that's what you're seeing, report it that way in the +Mail and Address book+ forum. If others see the same behavior, one of the top posters there may be able to report it, or you can call AppleCare and they can tell you how.
I doubt this is a condition many folks would see, so it probably hasn't come up often, if ever.
If I misunderstand what's happening, please clarify.

  • TextEdit new document window starts off screen

In TextEdit, if I create a new document, the window stretches off the bottom of the screen. The bounds of the window are {133, 53, 760, 882}. This behaviour takes place when the preference setting 'Wrap to page' is checked. If I create a second new document window while the first is still open, it fits within the screen at {154, 22, 781, 851} (it moves up to the right by 21 pixels). How can I get the first document to start within the screen's real estate?
If it is unchecked, the co-ordinates of the upper left corner of the new window are {133, 53}. The size of the window depends upon the font size. Note that the upper left corner also remains the same if I change paper sizes.
I have deleted the preferences but nothing has changed.
Does anyone know how to control the size and location of a new document window, with the 'wrap' feature checked?
    Thanks.

On my machines, wrap to page is enabled and I have window size set to 80x70 which works for me for years.

  • Why are my windows sliding off screen?

So, I was on my Mac Book Pro doing work and I flick between different windows (FCP, Finder, Safari etc) using the cmd - Tab function. All works fine and all the windows stay on the screen.
However, I was doing something in finder when all of a sudden all the toher windows slid off scree to the left. Now whenever I use Finder the other widows slide off screen and when I tab back to use the other windows finder slides off to the right! I just want them all to be on the screen at the same time again!!
    Any ideas?

Not sure if you have solved your issue yet. But I had the same issue. Disable/trash iSnap. That's the culprit.

  • Mouse goes off screen

Have a slot loading iMac where the mouse goes off the edges of the screen. Even if I change the resolution. I heard there is a fix for this but can't find it anywhere. Help please if you can. Thanks!

If you have a multi-coloured Apple in the top left then: go to  Apple Menu > Control Panel > Monitor > In there you will find controls to adjust the CRT display up, down, left, right and the keystone. slowly adjust these until the whole display is visible on the screen.
If you have a blue Apple in the top left then do the same but go:  Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Displays > .
Let us know how you get on.

  • Text going off screen

When I send a text, it goes off the screen so I can't review it. The text is there, but the margin seems to be beyond the iPhone's screen.  How do I make it so it starts a new line when it comes to the end of the screen?

Not sure exactly what the problem might be there, but you can try to perform a reset on the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should reboot. See if that helps.
