Firefox window position settings stored/set where?

This is a dumbass question as I can't remember/seem to retrace my steps what I have done.
I have 2 computers and have set dropbox to store some firefox settings and have basically forgotten what I did and I can't seem to find the alias link.
One of my computers is a laptop, the other a desktop with 2 screens. I have firefox open on screen 2 on the dual setup and on the primary screen on the laptop.
My problem/issue is when I've had firefox open on the laptop, the settings are stored somewhere so when I open firefox on the dual setup it opens initially on screen 1... as I say I'm being a dumbass here and can't work out how to undo the settings.
Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Window sizes and positions are stored in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder].

  • Is it possible to open 2 Firefox windows with a different set of tabs at start-up?

I would like Firefox to open two separate windows at start-up, each containing a different set of tabs.
Is there a way to do this?

If you close Firefox with these open and start Firefox with the windows from last time yes.
It is also possible to select the active tabs/windows by selecting the Home page to be "Use Current Pages".

  • When I start firefox my options (settings) get set back to the defaults and I am re-directed to the firefox start page instead of my home page. version 3.6.8

This problem started after upgrading to 3.6.8. It first looked as if Firefox is looking to update some plug-ins, despite setting it not to look for updates. I have the same plug-ins for a long time (MS drm, ad-block +, Java and script .

  • When in fullscreen mode, bottom of Firefox window ends where Windows Taskbar would be, were it not in autohide mode.

    Firefox version: 4
    Windows Version: XP-SP3 (automatic updates)
My Windows Taskbar is in autohide mode.
When I launch Firefox in windowed mode and maximize the window, it takes up the entire screen.
When I move my mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen, the Windows Taskbar pops up.
When I select Fullscreen mode in Firefox, the top of the window behaves as it should: Menus disappear, and the toolbar area autohides, reappearing when I move my mouse pointer to the top of the screen.
The bottom of the Firefox window, however, jumps up to where it would be if the Windows Taskbar were not in autohide mode, leaving a black space. While I can move my cursor over this black space, when I reach the bottom of the screen, the Windows taskbar will not unhide, forcing me to use the Windows button if I want to execute some other command.
If I minimize the Firefox window, then select it from the taskbar, it returns to fullsceen mode and takes up the entire screen (no more black space), but I still cannot get the Windows Taskbar to pop up by moving my cursor to the bottom of the screen.
While it may seem nit-picky, this is a dealbraker for me. I set Firefox to run in Fullscreen mode, and expect it to do so properly, without having to go through all of these steps. Furthermore, since I use Windows Start button for everything (my desktop has nothing on it but the Recycle Bin), I often use it while browsing (launching other applications, using the Control Panel, or looking through filesystem, among others).
I am extremely pleased with all other aspects of the browser, right down to the toolbar area not disappearing when my mouse pointer happens to slide off of it after I place my cursor in the search box, and while I would be sad to lose all of these improvements, I will return to Version 3 if I must.
Thank you very much for your time.

I'm sorry, it seems I spoke too soon. The original problem is back: Black stripe at the bottom of the screen. :-(

  • Firefox window becomes invisible when I try to restore the window size (maximized works fine)

When I start Firefox the window is invisible. Maximizing it works, but when I try to restore it to the previous size it becomes invisible again.
I've had this problem with other applications and then it was the stored window position that had become corrupted.
I've looked in the registry to see if the window position is stored there, but couldn't find it there.

Good, I guess there must have been at least an edge visible.
Anyway the KB article also now has a better description for manually moving / resizing by first invoking "Alt+Spacebar" (Windows shortcut), thanks to your question.
I just realized you said you clicked on the taskbar icon, that choice does not appear to be possible in Windows 7 but "Alt+Spacebar" still works.

  • Why do certain of my Firefox windows start getting "Server not found"?

Several times a day, one or more of my many Firefox windows gets into a state where it gets "Server not found" whenever I try to browse to a new URL. Internet Explorer is not affected.
I usually run Firefox with ~4 windows and more than a hundred tabs. The problem sometimes affects only one of those windows. Sometimes I can solve it by closing and then reopening the window. Sometimes I can solve it by closing and then reopening Firefox. Sometimes I can solve it by rebooting.
It's hard to say when exactly this started. The computer is only two weeks old.
I have experimented with the solutions discussed here (played with my firewall, verified that I am not using a proxy server, network.dns.disableIPv6, network.dns.disablePrefetch): http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20cannot%20load%20websites%20but%20other%20programs%20can

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Pon opening firefox, some pages are small, others large. On IE, there is a setting where it remembers the page settings. Is there one on firefox I can't find?. in English

My computer had a virus so I reformatted. This was about a month ago. Now when I open Firefox, the page settings are not correct and I have to keep zooming in and out to be able to read web pages and it does not remember page settings like IE did. Is there a setting for this, to remember page size? I am on Windows XP and Firefox is my browser, version 3.6.4.

If you need to adjust the zoom and font size on websites then look at:
    * Default FullZoom Level - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/6965
    * NoSquint - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2592

  • Lately, i received "search setting notification" message popup on starting Firefox 3.6.10. I manually changed my search to Bing. But after closing all firefox windows, it was changed to Yahoo and that notification message.

I am referring to the Search Bar on the upper right corner of the firefox screen. Where there is an option to "Manager search engines...". I even delete the Yahoo entry. But when i restart firefox, i got that "Search Setting Notification" message and the #$@? Yahoo is there on the upper right corner as my default search engine.

    (1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
    (2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Remember History: Firefox shouldn't be clearing history, but an add-on or external software could do it
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Use custom settings for history: inspect the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting to make Firefox isn't set to clear history. Also check your add-ons and consider external software.
Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored.

  • Where are all the settings stored?

When working with Data Modeler users can setup a couple of preferences.
E.g. windows size and position on desktop but others as well.
Where are all these settings stored?
Is it a file or in Win Registry?
How can I backup these (current) settings?
In addition I want to copy them onto another Data Modeler installation on another computer and use them over there as well.
Do 32bit and 64bit version access the same settings values?
    Thank you

    Hi,
In Tools -> Preferences->Data Modeler there are import/export buttons.
Use export to create file and import it on another computer.

  • Firefox switches proxy settings each time a new window is opened

    Hello folks!
I'm having a curious problem with Firefox 18.0 since the last update.
Every time I open Firefox or a new application, the proxy settings are set to "Use system proxy settings".
Here's a screenshot of how it looks like right after I opened firefox. In the background you can see the message I now always get, "Unable to find proxy server".
I always have to change this back to "No proxy" to surf the internet. This setting is kept until I open the next window or close and re-open Firefox, than it's reset back at this again, an opening websites does not work.
I first had the idea that the ProxyFoxy-AddIn is causing that, but the problem still exists also after disabling ProxyFoxy.
I'm not sure if this is a Firefox bug or another problem. Maybe can anyone tell me where to set "system proxy settings" in Arch Linux, so that I can avoid this problem. Or do I need to contact Mozilla in this case?
    Thank you!
    Jan

I think there might be a bug in FF18. After the upgrade, I would also get the error message and couldn't open any site, though using "No proxy" worked I believe. Turns out I had something set under network.proxy.socks (and network.proxy.socks_port) (leftovers of tests done a while back) and even though they shouldn't have been used (I believe, FF17 didn't & I'm using "Use system proxy settings") they obviously were, leading to the problem.
Just resetting those 2 options fixed things for me, and I didn't have time to look into it more, but there might be a bug in there somewhere...
Maybe try checking under about:config if you have any proxy settings set (that you don't need/use) (You don't seem to have any set, but I can't recall if they were visible in the Preferences window or not for me...), and if so reset them. Or just look for any (network) options not using its default value... (Assuming, as it did for me, that running FF18 with a brand new profile works fine.)

  • Where are Optimizer settings stored?

I need to deploy PDF Optimizer settings throughout my organization, like I did with joboptions.
So far I have been unsuccessful in searching for a file with the name into which I saved my optimizer settings.
Where are the optimizer settings stored?  I would hate to have to set these all manually for everyone.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi All,
Thanks for the info.  I think this is what I need, but I opened the Javascript console and pasted in the code and nothing happened.
(Programming, javascript, etc are not my area of expertise. My core competency is writing/editing.)
What else do I need to do to make the Console recognize and respond that line of code?

You have probably clicked on a mailto: web link which directs links to send e-mail messages to wherever the webmaster chooses.    Go to the View menu -> Show Statusbar if it available, and then make sure the bottom of your screen is visible.  When you hover over a link, if it says: mailto: it will open in your default e-mail reading application set by your browser or your e-mail program preferences.
Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Software Update lets you change how often you see the software update window.
