Firefox window sometimes does not redraw after I close a tab

This started a while ago and has persisted through multiple updates of Firefox and my display drivers. It's straightforward: sometimes when I close a tab (via keyboard or mouse) Firefox does not redraw its window and I am left looking at a "ghost" version of the tab.
If I move my mouse over the window I can see it responding to links in the tab that Firefox has switched to, but the display will not update until I do something to trigger the browser to redraw its whole window (e.g. resizing it).
I am using Firefox 36 beta and have a GTX 560 Ti graphics card with the latest Nvidia drivers. As I mentioned above though, this issue has been around for a while and is not specific to the version of Firefox (I don't normally use betas) or drivers I am currently using. I don't have problems in any other program.
Has anyone else experienced this?

You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.
*about:config page: layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

• Firefox 15 UI does not update after wake from sleep

On my Netbook running Windows XP 32-bit, if I leave Firefox open when I put the computer to sleep (by closing its lid), then when I wake it up from sleep, the user interface elements (like the tab bar) won't respond to mouse clicks. This does not happen 100% of the time; in particular it won't happen for a freshly restarted Firefox that is put to sleep, making the problem rather annoying to reproduce. As far as I can tell, I might have to visit some set of websites with Javascript or Flash or something.
Here are some more details about the user interface, because it is not as simple as non-responsiveness. When I wake it up, when I click on a tab to switch to it, the Windows title bar actually changes to display that tab's page title, but nothing else in the UI updates including the URL bar and the actual page displayed. Similarly for closing a tab; the tab remains, but the title bar shows the title of the tab that would receive focus next. After I "pseudo" close a tab and then restart Firefox, it does not remember that I closed the tab (I save sessions) and restarts with the same set of tabs before I tried to close one.
I get the problem even after disabling all extensions and resetting all toolbars to defaults. I have not tried to create a new profile because I have a lot invested in my current profile.

I am going to respond to my self and say I am nuts.
Canon does not seem to have any uninstaller for this scanner on their site:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDet ailTabAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=17104
Which is rather odd since they have installers. this is different from most of their other older scanners. But if you just plugged in our scanner and things worked in OSX, which it should have, then you should be OK.
However I can confirm that others see this issue (like my dad) and here is the official Canon response to the issue:

+In some cases, coming out of sleep mode may not properly reinitialize+

Of course this in not exactly true as logging out and back in fixes it.

• Windows update does not work after using System recovery disk

I have a Toshiba Satellite c655 with WIndows 7 64 bit Home premium. The hard drive died on it, so I purchased a new hard drive and purchased the appropriate Recovery media from Toshiba. I followed the directions and installed the 3 disks on to the new hard drive. But Windows update does not work I get the following error: Windows update can not currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your PC No matter what I try, I can not get it to work. And it will not let me install Windows Defender either. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time on this matter.

• Open Link in New Window, sometimes does not work???

The problem is in FF4b9 an 10 (the only ones I tested). The problem is that when I open a link in a new window sometimes it does not work. Well, I am presented with a new instance of the browser as expected but it seems like the parameter is not passed or something. Also, I have noticed something weird about the new instance. There is a button labeled Firefox in orange and another set of minimize, maximize, and close buttons. Here is a screenshot:
http://i52.tinypic.com/ilejkn.png

There is this pref: browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground
But it doesn't have effect if you open links via the Library, it only works when opened via the browser window (menu, toolbar, sidebar).

• Windows 7 does not boot after bootcamp installation

Hey!
I installed windows 7 x64 on my MBP 15" retina with bootcamp, and the installation went fine but after the installation when it said " prepairing your desktop" it just restarted and went into boot loop, so I had to boot into mac OSX and make it primary boot. This have happend 3 times, and I've recreated the ISO image on the USB and I've deleted windows 7 and the partition and I have done the whole process over again (3 times) and it still does not work. Sometimes I get into windows 7 the first time and can move around the desktop with the mouse for about 5 seconds, then it says "logging out" and I'm back at the same problem.
What can I do?
Best regards,
Jack Hellberg.

Hi Jack.........ok ive managed to create a link to that video on how to install bootcamp.....this is the tutorial i used and i managed to gain 100% completion on bootcamp 1st time no messing......like i said in my previous reply did you save the windows support files from apple....(Critical).....ok no point in messing about i suggest you start again from scratch........these are the things i used and YOU will need to complete bootcamp
mem stick or cd-r / dvd-r......original copy disc of win 7 ...i never used an iso i used original disc....allow a minimum of 30gb of space for your win 7 partition.....if you want bootcamp so you can use big programs like windows based games i.e.....Crysis/Call of duty etc etc ..then you will need to consider that you will need to allow a bigger partition to allow your HD to store the files.....this is the reason i installed bootcamp and so i made my partition i have a 750GB HD so i made a partition of 300gb for windows 7 and left the other 450gb for Mac....so you need to partition enough for what you want bootcamp for remember once you get bootcamp working you will need to install ALL Important Windows updates Including Win 7 SP1......once everything is installed you will have bootcamp up and running lovely.....u can then boot up with either win7 or mac......click this link and watch carefully and do exactly as shown ok and you should be fine...if you have any probs contact me again ok.....let me know how you get on ok..:)...http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&v=QFIWtXTl4d0&NR=1

• Windows disc does not update after resizing boot camp partition

When I bought my iMac, it came with a 500 GB HDD. I used bootcamp to make a 200GB windows partition and a 300GB Mac partition. The other day I bought a 250GB SSD, and moved everything from my 300GB Mac partition onto the SSD.
My plan was to use the whole 500GB HDD for windows. So, I deleted the 300GB Mac partition and made it free space on the drive. I then expanded the boot camp partition to take up the whole drive using Mini Tool on windows 7.
Now, windows 7 shows that my drive is 465GB, but when I boot into mac, the bootcamp hard drive still reads 200GB and 300GB are "free space" even though I expanded the drive using Mini Tool.
I tried to fix this by filling up the hard drive with an extra 120 GB so it exceeded the 200GB limit that windows shows. But when I booted back into OSX to see if it had worked, none of the files were showing up in the drive, making me believe that boot camp and OS X are not reading changes I am making to the bootcamp drive when I use Windows.
How can I change this so Disk Utility shows the full size of the disc, like Mini Tool does?
I will try to upload screenshots soon.

Re-sizing Windows partitions is not supported on Bootcamp. It requires a clean install. The other option is using Winclone.
Boot Camp 5.1: Frequently asked questions
How can a Windows partition be resized after Windows is installed?
You need to delete the Windows partition using the Boot Camp Assistant, and start over to change the size of the Windows partition. Back up your important Windows files first.

• Windows NT does not boot after installing NI-CAN 1.6.0 or security update

We are running Windows NT 4.0 SP 6 english with MS IE 5.5.
On one machine we had NI-CAN 1.6.0 installed. After installing the security update from Microsoft over the web the machine did not boot.
On another machine the security update was installed. After installing NI-CAN 1.6.0 the machine booted but hangs during logon. On this machine we installed Windows NT, MS IE 5.5 the security update and NI-CAN from new and the effect was the same.
Does anyone else have similar experience with this problem?

Hi,
I haven't found any known issues. I going to try it out here. What's the security update you're installing?. I noticed there's a bunch of them in the Microsoft web site.
What CAN hardware do you have (PCI, PCMCIA, etc)?.
Let me know this details and I'll try to reproduce the problem.

• My Firefox window browser does not open at all. Tried everything. No window at all.

A few days back now, a message kept appearing that certificate had expired as 31/5/2011. I just cancelled that and went on to use the browser, Now the browser will not load any page at all.
Tried as many things as I dare.
Thank you for your help.

Hello everyone.
Hopefully this support article is what you need:
https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+will+not+start
In any case, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

• Windows 7 does not boot after grey screen

Hi,
Right after installing Windows 7 Home 64-bit on Macbook Pro with Retina by boot camp, computer restarts, shows black screen with flashing underscore (_) on left corner, shows grey screen next, restarts again, and then repeats. I cannot log in or do anything. What is the problem?
I have used Boot Camp Assistant and created install disk on my USB flash drive.
When I boot BootCamp on VMware Fusion, Windows starts normally.
Thank you for your advice!

Same problem here.
Windows 7 Ultimate, OSX 10.8.2, MBP13"mid2012

but since yesterday i got the same "endless repeating booting routine with blinking curser".
the curser blinks for a few seconds, then the mac reboots. very disapointing.

• Windows 7 Does Not Respond after it goes to sleep

We are using Windows 7 image distribution through SCCM for our entire organization. Lately, I came across this issue, now becoming more common on all
the systems. The computer won't wake up from sleep by pressing any key, if left unattended for more that 30 Mins (rather after it goes to sleep). A forced Restart is then necessary to return everything to normal. We are using Dell Latitude E series laptops,
as a standard all throughout our organization.
Already tried lot of option like - upgrading the drivers, changing the power plans etc. However, neither of them worked. Any suggestions in this regard
are highly appreciated.
Thanks,

• Resume does not work after app close or quit

My apps do not open where I left off after either closing them or quitting them. The checkbox on System Preferences>General>Close windows when quitting an application is not checked. After reading several articles I have tried toggling it on/off, with and without restarts inbetween, and have checked that none of the ~/Library/Saved Application State are locked. It is as if the apps (e.g. safari, chrome, textedit) are not able to save their state. Strangely if I leave the apps open and shutdown/reboot my computer the open apps carry on as they should do.
I am new to the Apple world using a week old Mac Mini running a clean install of OS X 10.8.3. I have been using PCs since the DOS days so having used Microsoft for 25 years I am usually fairly savvy at trying to track down help... but all I can find are answers for people trying to turn off Resume - not turn it on. Is there a way to "repair" the resume either via the GUI or terminal.
Thanks for your patience.
Nathan.

Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
There's a search box in the toolbar of the window that opens. Enter "talagent" (without the quotes) in that box. Does a process with that name show in the list below?

This issue can be caused by an extension (AVG Safe Search can cause this) that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Firefox 5.0 does not open link into new tab. I have a netbook also and tab options work fine, links open into a new window. However on this Dell it does not work. Tab options in Firefox and Google are set right, but don't work that way. Running Windows 7 on Dell, Windows Starter on netbook.

The Template .dwt file is only used locally by DW itself, there's no reason to upload it to the server unless you intend to share it with someone. You have to upload each individual page that the Template updates, every time you update the template and propagate that change across the child pages.
It would probably be better to use a server side include. That way, you could update one file then upload it and all of your pages would automatically carry that update...
