Firefox window will not scale down past 420px wide

For some reason on both my work Mac and home Mac I am unable to shrink my browser window past 420 - 425px wide. Both computers are using mavricks. It does not matter the website. I disabled all addons and toolbars. Updated me version. But have had no luck. Even if I try and resize viewport with developer tools the window will not shrink past 425px

That was caused by a Bug fix for a new minimum width window size.

  • Firefox window will not move across the desktop

I am running F.F. version 34.0.5 on a iMac with Retina display (32 GB RAM) and Mac OS X 10.10.1
I can resize the Mozilla window but I cannot move it around the screen. I have tried resetting Firefox and also turned off hardware acceleration. I've tried staring it in Safe Mode, and this does not help. All of my extensions are disabled and my plug ins are all set to "never active". None of these steps fixes this problem.

Are you able to move other windows around on the screen.
Normally when the issue continues in safe mode, it is an issue with the install itself.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from [https://www.mozilla.org mozilla.org] (or choose the download for your operating system and language from [https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ this page]) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click the close button [[Image:Close 29]]).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.

  • Firefox Window Will not Open on iMac

When, I open firefox the options menu loads in the tool bar at the top of the screen, but is grayed out. Also, the main window does not open. I can access some options from the tool bar, but the browser window never opens. See screenshot - http://screencast.com/t/suM5Sso7keZ

Have you tried Firefox safe mode? It could be an extension reponsible.
If not, you could try moving the profile to another location, such as the desktop and then starting up Firefox so that it has to make a new profile. See if that works. If so, it could be something in the profile that is damaged, such as the localstore.rdf file.

I had the same problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work. Try right clicking on the FF icon, then click Troubleshoot compatibility and run it in XP (I'm running Windows 7). That solved the problem for me, although I can't think why!

  • Firefox window will not resize. It keeps "popping" down to about 2" high x 8" wide visible window area. Unacceptable, and I cannot find an answer to this, so am having to use another un-preferred browser!

Visible window area is too small. 2" high x regular width. I am using a Macintosh and have version 3.6.6 loaded.

  • Firefox window will not open - firefox.exe closes by itself

    Hello,
I have a problem with Firefox not being able to start when I double-click the icon on my desktop. I'm not sure what version I was using before, but I uninstalled whatever version I had before and installed the latest version (14.0.1), with no effect.
I can see that when I try to open Firefox, the firefox.exe process will stay open for about five seconds, then disappear. I've tried to open Firefox in Safe Mode and open the Profile Manager via the command line, but the window never opens, the process always appears for a few seconds and disappears on its own.
Anybody know what is causing this or how it can be fixed?

Hey, thanks for all the help so far. Sorry for the late response.
I followed your instructions, even getting rid of my bookmarks and personal data when uninstalling, and here's what happened:
After installing, I kept "Launch Firefox" checked at the last prompt. A window opened, it asked me whether I wanted to import anything from other browsers, I said no. Then it opened the regular Firefox browser window! But, I closed it and re-opened Firefox just to make sure it would still work...then it did the same thing it was doing before, opened for a few seconds and then closed on its own without opening the window. :-( So, it would open only once, the initial time and then that's it.
I don't get a crash reporter at all. No visual confirmation that Firefox is trying to open, except the process appearing a few seconds in the Task Manager and disappearing.
My antivirus program is AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012. I do virus scans with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware occasionally. I don't have Windows Firewall turned on right now because it caused problems with another application.
This problem is particularly pesky...I don't know what happened, until a couple of days ago Firefox was running fine...
Any further help or suggestions would be appreciated!

  • My Firefox window will not stay highlighted.

It doesn't matter what website I am on. Every 5 seconds or so the color changes on the top blue bar. I can be in the middle of typing something (like this) and then it stops like it is inactive. I have to click on the page to start typing again.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Firefox window will not shrink

Since I upgraded to Firefox 31 clicking on the shrink button causes only minimal reduction in window size, while windows open in other programmes reduce to half size. In addition, the task bar disappears. This is more than annoying. Is there a fix?

When you switch between a maximized window and a resizable window, Firefox generally uses the last size. If you resize the current window, then usually Firefox will use that going forward.
If the window hides the Windows Task Bar, however, that can indicate a corrupted settings file. In particular, that file stores information about what toolbars are displayed and how large various windows and dialogs were the last time you displayed them. You can rename the file to return to the default settings. Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. Windows should display a list of the files and folders in your Firefox profile folder.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
    * File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something like localstore.old
Start Firefox back up again. Are window sizes more normal?

  • Firefox window will not adjust in size, the window is either Maximized or no window displays.

    Environment is Windows XP Professional.
Opened Firefox (3.6.8) and an icon displays on the task-bar, but no window.
Rt click on icon and options are "Maximize" or "Restore". Clicking on either produces a full locked window. Cannot re-size or drag by top bar.
Clicking on the "Maximize" icon in the upper right corner of the window and the window disappears. Window may be reopened by a Rt click on the task-bar icon and selecting "Maximize" or "Restore"
Opened another session of Firefox at the same time, and a small window (as small as it can be) appears in lower left corner. Can be re-sized, "maximized" and "un-maximized" and appears to be normal.

Need to add that PC was rebooted multiple times, and error occurred each time Firefox was started up, after the reboot.

  • Firefox 6 will not allow you to paste a cookie into the addressbar like all previous versions have. I use software to replace web chat and must do this and have been able to do it in all past versions. What's the deal?

Firefox 6 will not allow you to paste a cookie into the addressbar like all previous versions have. I use software to replace web chat and must do this and have been able to do it in all past versions. What's the deal?

    Thank you for your response.
After searching around for any pointers to my problem, the above fixes I listed were the things that came closest to maybe addressing the issue, that I was able to locate. But since none worked, and as you pointed out, it is now clear they will only help towards viewing sent images rather than helping with inserting any images in the body of the email, which is the problem I suddenly started facing today.
Coming to your suggestion, on opening the Write window, the Insert choice on the menu bar is indeed available. And I had already tried using that, by clicking on the '''Insert ----> Image''' option listed. That opens
up the "Image Properties" box but using that has not resolved the matter either. It results in an image box getting inserted within the email but without the actual image itself.
Plus, normally I am able to use the '''Paste''' function in the Edit menu or through right-click, but today the (Cut/Copy/Paste) functions have gone inactive, thereby disallowing me to use that to place an image within the email.

  • ITunes 10.x.x.x Windows XP SP Will not shut down

Every time I run itunes 10, in this case 10.6.1.7 but for all iTunes in the past year or more - it will not shut down and stay shut down.
some suggest turning off "default player for audio" -- nice suggestion, but I do that and iTunes messages that I don't have privileges (I'm the administrator).
I turn off Bonjour -- itunes complains, but shuts down only to startup again.
I am NOT sharing music with other computers.
So the cryptic "don't have privileges" -- anyone know what Apple is looking for in this restriction?
Can't uncheck "default music player" -- anyone have a clue as to why not ?
    Thanks for looking.
    Jeff

The idea of a 3rd party unrelated app didn't seem reasonable, but in Windows, I brought up the the Windows Task Manager (similar to MacBook Activity Monitor) and started "ENDING" the tasks that seemed to be unrelated to the system but used for certain applications.
When I stopped a task related to my Linksys Music Bridge (I was using Airlink-101 music bridge tools to access the bridge) this allowed iTunes to start and stop without automatically restarting.
On XP, the task was "CMFLYWAV" not sure why it's called that, but I now use Bluetooth to send audio to my HiFi using a Logitech Speaker Adapter that works great, and doesn't cause problems for iTunes.
There are probably other unessential tasks running on those machine that still have this "won't shut down" problem.
Thanks for the hint, but I was heading down that road as the next step, assuming something else was forcing iTunes to stay active. But I would not have expected it to be a network speaker driver as it was in my case.

  • Firefox will not open. Process runs, but browser window will not open.

I am unable to get the Firefox browser window to launch. The application will attempt to open, but the browser window will not appear. Task manager indicates that the process is running, it just will not launch the window. No amount of restarts or reboots will make a difference. The strange thing about this is that Firefox has never run. This is a new computer and this issue has been a problem since it was first plugged in.
    Troubleshooting steps attempted thus far:
    1) Attempted to open in safe mode - will not open
    2) Attempted to run in administrator mode- will not open
    3) Completely uninstalled application, including profile info and reinstalled
    4) Uninstalled known conflicts - Skype 4 (do not have Norton)
    5) Even though issues since new, I ran a virus scan just in case-nothing
    6) Uninstalled Chrome which I installed after originally being unsuccesful at getting FF to install (I uninstalled it before I began all of these troubleshooting steps as I have heard of conflicts)
I am now at a loss and willing to try any other steps that you guys can suggest.
Computer is running Windows 7 pro 64 bit. Running McAffee virus software. There are three identical computers in my office, purchased at exactly the same time with the same configuration. Mine is the only one that will not run firefox. Sadness. Please help, pleeeease...

Win 7 with iTunes installed - I was also having problems with that.
"netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt resolved all issues and Firefox launched normally.
Check to see if Winsock is corrupted. May prevent FF from communicating with the web and consequently fails to launch properly - for my situation was not a firewall or antivirus block!
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936211#LetMeFixItMyselfAlways
Click Start, and in Start Search, type cmd.
Right-click the cmd entry that appears in the search results, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
    netsh winsock reset
Then, you should see the following message:
Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the computer in order to complete the reset.
    Restart the computer.
Note If you receive an “Access Denied” error message instead of the message that is mentioned in step 3, the command prompt was not correctly elevated. In this case, close the Command Prompt window, and repeat steps 1 through 3. Make sure that you correctly implement step 2.
