Firefox won't complete updates on my Macbook. How do I fix this?

I've installed Firefox on my Mac several times now. Every time I open a browser window the original 'drag firefox into applications' window pops up and then the browser opens fine.
However, when I say yes to updates the update gets stuck in 'contacting the server' mode indefinitely i.e. no updates.
Have I installed Firefox incorrectly?

I've been using Firefox for years, however as of last week I can no longer open a new tab. I have to go to "file > new window" new tab quick function nor dropdown work. I'm using a Mac OS X 10.9.3.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer

Have you tried to reboot your router? Unplug it, count to 30, plug it back in and let it reboot. Also you may want to go into your settings on your iPad and 'reset network settings'.
In case the update messed something up, letting the devices reboot sometimes helps.

- Go to Settings>Store and sign out and sign into your account.
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

Go to /Library/Internt Plug-Ins.
Move the AdobePDFViewer.plugin to the Trash.

I've reset my iphone numerous times. Turned it off and back on. Restarted my computer. Deleted everything off of it and restored it from backup.
