Firefox won't connect to the internet even though internet explorer does.

Everytime firefox is open it reads "unable to connect" I've already tried disabling the firewalls and allowing firefox to run, but no bueno. The computer is an Emachine and there are similar problems with other programs such as aol and party poker.net. Basicly, you can download the programs but they don't run. How do you allow these programs to open up?

  • Firefox won't connect to the internet after trying all the troubleshooting, reinstalling, checking my firewall, etc. Help!

OK, I've got Firefox re-installed but it still can't connect to the internet. The original issue disabled my Norton antivirus and I'm currently using Windows defender. I've removed Mozilla from the allow list as suggested in the troubleshooting and then re-added it, but that didn't help, Any suggestions? I'm running a full virus scan now, it's been 2.5 hours now and still running. I can't figure out what is stopping FF from accessing internet and so far none of the suggestions have worked. I'm running windows 8. I'm trying to install the troubleshooting info but it keeps asking me what to open the xpi file with and I have no idea. dammit this is so annoying. Ok, got the troubleshooting info added manually. Hope that helps someone help me.

Thanks, that didn't work either. I finally got it figured out with some help from a co worker. My norton antivirus was blocking the upgrade, even though the upgrade had disabled it. Weird, but once we updated and downloaded the new norton things worked fine. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

  • Firefox won't connect to the internet

    hello,
i'm currently working on a Windows7 computer. Firefox used to work perfectly well here, then one day it unexpectedly crashed, and it hasnt been able to connect to the internet since.
I've already tried everything in the troubleshooting part of this website, but nothing seems to help. I couldnt find the profile manager to create a new profile for firefox though.
even though the connection error message opens whenever i use firefox to connect, internet explorer works perfectly fine with the internet.
also, i think this problem came right after IE was opened for the first time on this computer. Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sarvin

Also I tried starting in safe mode and restarting the router to no avail.

  • After updating, Firefox won't connect to the internet. All websites timeout. Internet explorer works fine.

I started up my computer and opened up firefox. A box popped up that said firefox was updating. After updating was complete, firefox attempted to connect to my homepage, yahoo, but the connection timed out. I tried connecting to other websites and they also timed out. My internet connection is good because internet explorer works fine.

Common cause after upgrading/updating is that your security software (firewall) may not recognize the new version and may be blocking Firefox and/or plugin-container. Remove all permissions for Firefox and plugin-container from your firewall's programs permissions list, then start Firefox and go to any website and let it detect and set internet access permissions.

  • On a Software Update, downloading Firefox, it never connects to the server even though I've run it all night long. Also will not link to info about this update.

A window with the Mozilla Firefox logo in the upper left corner has been appearing on my PC for over 3 weeks. It says I'm "strongly urged to update" and there is a link to more information about this update. The link is totally unresponsive, but I have attempted to run the update several times after checking the page status.
After pressing the button on the bottom left to update, the screen changes to the same Mozilla logo in the upper left, with "Software Update" next to it. Immediately below is "Downloading Firefox. then there is a green bar scrolling horizontally with "Connecting to the update server" underneath the bar. It never makes the connection, the software update is never downloaded. I have attempted to accommodate this request a half dozen times. WHAT IS IT?

If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • After updating to Firefox 3.6.15, Firefox will not connect to the Internet, even after uninstalling and re-installing Firefox in my Windows XP environment.

After downloading the Firefox 3.6.15 update, my problems began. Firefox would not connect to the Internet. When I rebooted my PC, Firefox said that it couldn't access any Web sites. I uninstalled Firefox, then downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.15. I still have the same problem: Firefox will not connect to the Internet. I am running Windows XP, service pack 3. I never had problems with Firefox until I installed version 3.6.15.

I have XP Pro. I tried installing 3.6.15 and could not open it. I did a system restore and 3.6.14 would no longer open. I tried again installing 3.6.15 and got a message that the previous version had not uninstalled properly. Tried uninstalling.
As a precaution I used MozBackup to save my bookmarks etc. and also saved a system restore point.
I then clicked Start, My Computer, drive C, Program Files and deleted the Firefox folder.
I installed 3.6.15 and it is now working fine with all my bookmarks and addons loaded automatically.

  • My macbook won't connect to the internet even though my router/connection is fine

Two days ago my computer was fine. Since yesterday it won't connect to the internet. I've been in touch with my service provider and determined that my router is fine and everything is correctly connected. I've rebooted my modem, restarted my computer, taken dhcp offline and put it back on, repaired disk permissions... Not necessarily in that order but nothing had work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We've determined, then, that you use your cable rather than wifi for your signal. Approach this in an organized way:
    1. ISP. Check your ISP's webmail to make sure you can send and mail email using the webmail interface. If you can, that means your ISP can still send and receive emails - if only on webmail. Useful if your normal email is malfuctioning, like now.
    2. Modem. Unplug and reconnect your modem, and make sure the connection is snug.
    3. Cables. Make sure all of your cables and plugs are connected; it's easy to disconnect an ethernet cable while cleaning, or after random kicking.
    4. Connection wizard. Go to Mail/Window/Connection Doctor, and take down the results.
Most of the time, you can trace the problem after following these steps. If there's still no luck, provide detailed info on your results.

  • MacBook Pro won't connect to the internet after standby

    Hallo all,
I have the following strange problem with my macbook pro:
    - after going in stand by and returning in operating mode the mac won't connect to the internet, I have to follow the procedure in order to retry to connect but It does'not work. Go in network preferences, try to change the DNS, use and not use DHCP and so on but nothing change.
    - Mac is working in ethernet, I can see other macs and pcs
    - When I change the network to connect, same problem even if I turn off the mac.
I have the same problem with Iphone !!!!
I have linksys router and modem but I think that the reason could be a setting in mac.
    Anyone can help me???

I tried re-installing Mountain Lion 10.8.3 but it didn´t help.
Assuming your can access email ok ?
First, install the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo)
Then restart your Mac. That will reinstall any missing system files.
    Then try Safari.

  • My airport extreme shows a green light, but won't connect to the internet.

I have an airport extreme, and it stopped working one day, so I reseted it and it's not connecting to the internet now.  It's showing a green light, however, it won't connect to the internet. I live in an apartment complex, so I don't have a cable modem. The router is directly connected to the wall via ethernet. I had the ports checked by connecting the ethernet cord directly to the computer, and the internet is working fine. I tried resetting the router, but it still doesn't connect.

Your problem is typical Yosemite network.. just reboot the Time Capsule.. no luck reboot the network.. do a restart in correct order.. modem.. wait 2min.. TC .. wait 2min.. clients.
No luck then do a full reset of the TC and setup in a way that Yosemite can cope with.
Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 for basestation and TCwifi wireless name.
If the issue is wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round. ie plan on a first and second round of changes to fix this.. hopefully.. I will point out other steps that can be round2.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply with 1. but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. If the TC is main router you can skip this point. This is only an issue when the TC is bridged.
Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only. Do the same for ethernet if you use it.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the computer itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
Yosemite has serious DNS bug in the networking application.. here is the lets say more arcane method of fixing it by doing a network transplant from mavericks.
    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/01/why-dns-in-os-x-10-10-is-broken-and-what-yo u-can-do-to-fix-it/
Same thing applies to the Airport Extreme or the Express if used as router.. just replace TC in the instructions with AE.

  • Itunes 8 won't connect to the internet. Connection is live

I recently upgraded to version 8 and now it won't connect to the internet. I ran diagnostics and my connection is ok but itunes won't connect. It says that the connection timed out but it pops that message up instantly so it doesn't even have a chance to connect or time out. Any help? I don't want to have to lose all my settings by uninstalling if I don't have to.

The #1 cluprit for no iTunes store connection after an upgrade is Norton.
Even though iTunes shows as being allowed in Norton, it really isn't for reasons we do not know. You have to go into Norton settings, take iTunes out, and put it back in the list. Also iTunes Helper. There are hundreds of posts about this in the itunes store forums.
    Here are Norton directions

  • Won't connect to the internet

my imac won't connect to the internet/server, however, at&t verified that my service is fine. how can i connect?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Safari won't connect to the internet (but computer is)

    Today,
None of our Macintosh (by Apple) devices will connect to the internet. Actually, only Safari says it won't connect to the internet.
If I run Terminal on our Macbook, I can ping yahoo.com, google.com, etc... Also, Skype works just fine. However, when we run Safari, no web page will load and we get the error screen saying that the computer is not connected to the internet. Running diagnostics (forget where it's located on the computer) says we are indeed connected (which I could tell from Skype and pinging).
Coincidentally, neither our iPhone or iPod can get to any web pages on Safari when connected to our wireless router. Using 3g network they access web pages fine. Our PC has no internet troubles today whatsoever.
Any idea why Safari doesn't work? Unfortunatley we don't have Firefox or Chrome on our Macbook to test it out, not sure how to download those without being able to access their respective web pages.
    Thanks!

Try turning off the router for 5 minutes, then turn it back on.
Restart your Mac as well as the iPhone and iPod.
If that doesn't help, on the Mac, go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move all the files from the System Configuration folder to the Trash.
Now on your iPhone and iPod tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings
See if Safari will load pages.
If not, on your Mac, go to System Prerferences - Security.
If the Firewall is turned on, turn that off. Restart your Mac, Try Safari again.
Since you can access the net with 3G, it's got to be your Wi-Fi.
System Preferences / Network / Assist Me is where you find Diagnostics.
Make sure all the light are green. If not, click Continue.

  • My ipod's apps won't connect to the internet.

the apps on my ipod touch 5 won't connect to the internet anymore, even apps from apple like the appstore. only safari works, but with some sites it says there is no safe connection(like with twitter). but it does work with google
how can i get rid of this problem?
my ipod runs 7.0.2 and i checked for software updates, there were none. i also checked for app updates but as i said the app store doesn't connect with the internet either.

Does it have this problem wehn connect to another network?
Did the iOS device connect OK before to this network?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - Restore from backup. See:
