Firefox won't delete history

Hi
Did this - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-clear-private-data-firefox-android on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Duos GT-I9192 running Android 4.2.2. but it doesn't work! Installed "CleanQuit" which works but sometimes it doesn't display when you go to the menu. Shouldn't need an add-on anyway. Please help?
Trevor.

So you're saying you go into the Clear Private Data dialog, clear the history, back out to a regular tab, tap the address bar, and your history is still there?
I think the only explanation identified for this so far was that this was a byproduct of one of Android's Developer Options. The workaround was:
Android Settings > Developer options > uncheck "Don't keep activities"

• Firefox won't delete cookies even after set to clear cookies on firefox exit

I have use custom settings for remembering history in firefox.
I set to clear history on firefox close. Under this settings, I set to clear cookies, active login and cache. But whenever firefox exits it doesn't remove cookies.
Also, I set to keep cookies till firefox closes. Still the cookies appears.
This is a big security issue for me..When I click restore previous session, firefox restores the login into sites also which I don't want

Got It!!!
Go To: Firefox/Tools/Options/Privacy/Tracking Checked box/Tell websites I do not want to be tracked/ History Firefox will: Never Remember History/ You may also want to: clear all current history/ Clear now/ click OK, ---> got it, that is your answer.<-- (Right click the left image below to open in a new tab)
And it is my answer as well, as I was confounded with this problem for some time. Now after you do this close your Firefox browser, and open back up Firefox browser, and there will be maybe only one or two cookies, depending on your browsers' home page.
I tried other methods to get rid of persistent cookies that would not delete by, CookieKiller, and TACO Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out, those did not help, and I tried the methods listed on these links but they did not work:http://webdevwonders.com/clear-dom-storage/
Also this method did not work:http://justplainobvious.blogspot.com/2009/03/firefox-wont-delete-cookies.html
Next to make your Firefox browsing possible, go to/Firefox/Tools/Options/Privacy/,Tracking Checked box/Tell websites I do not want to be tracked, History Firefox will: Use custom settings for history, unchecked box Always use private browsing mode, unchecked box Remember my browsing history, unchecked box Remember download history, unchecked box Remember search and form history, checked box Accept cookies from sites, checked box Accept third party cookies, Keep until: I close Firefox, checked box clear history when Firefox closes, /settings all nine boxes checked/ click --->OK! (Right click the right image below to open in a new tab)
All Cookies are gone/history/deleted.

• I followed your help directions on "Corrupt extension files" under "Unable to install add-ons", foolishly deleting the files you told me to. Now firefox won't open. I tried reinstalling firefox but it still won't open. Now what do I do?

I was trying to install the SEOQuake add on. After clicking install Firefox would hang up saying the script had timed out and asking if I want to stop it or continue. Didn't matter which option I chose nothing would happen. The only way to stop it was to close Firefox and restart. Tried restarting the computer. Still wouldn't install. Tried installing the Outwit add on and got the same error leading me to conclude it was a problem with Firefox, not the add on. I found this help page <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons?s=addons+won't+install&as=s> and did everything it told me to. Finally at the end I got to "Corrupt extension files". I foolishly deleted the files you told me to and now Firefox won't even start! I tried reinstalling Firefox and it still won't start. Tried restarting the computer. I have no idea how to get back to where I was let alone install the add ons I wanted to install. Please help. At this point I'd just be happy to be able to get Firefox working.

See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
See Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br />

• Firefox doesn't delete the browsing history in the address bar

No matter what you do with Firefox in clearing the browsing history by going to History -> Clear Recent History and deleting everything or resetting FF by going to Troubleshooting information, Firefox doesn't delete the browsing history. The website you have browsed still appear in the address bar.
Several people already have complained about this issue (see thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/939028) and the answer from the Firefox staff is that there is got to be a malware. This is not true, I've seen versions of Firefox in clean computers both Windows and Mac with Firefox doing the same thing, or more like not doing what it's supposed to do: clean the browsing history.
How unsafe is that. Where is your privacy? Firefox has to find a way to fix this glitch. Something tells me they're doing it on purpose because it hasn't been fixed after the complains.

You can delete the places.sqlite file if you aren't able to clear all history.

• Browsing history is set to "delete on exit" from Firefox however cookies and history are still listed in Internet Explorer - which I never use. Why??

Firefox is set to delete browsing history on exit. Appears to be working fine. However, if I open Internet Explorer - after closing Firefox - my cookies and history are listed in Internet Explorer. I have to go to Tools >Options> Internet History and delete everything manually. (Internet Explorer is also set to delete history on exit.
Why are my cookies and history being transferred from Firefox to Internet Explorer?

Thanks cor-el for the reply.
Do not have any MS plugins that I'm aware of. No Silverlight, etc.
How can I tell if Windows Media player is plugged in to FF?
No IE View or IE tab.
Not a major problem because I can go in and delete manually--minor hassle.
Have had the same problem across several FF updates. Just curious why this is happening.

• While deleting history firefox crash with error of Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:136.So has to wait or cancel the script.

I have upgraded Firefox to 4.0.1.But while deleting history(everything) Firefox hangs for some time and then this error appears
Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:136

• Firefox doesn't delete my cookies when I clear all history.

When I go to options and clear all history (everything, all boxes checked), firefox does not delete my cookies because I am still logged into accounts. Not too sure about deleting all my history and cache either.
Is there a setting I am missing that bypasses certain accounts from getting deleted?

Is this about "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies when you close Firefox?
If you leave tabs open when you exit Firefox then Firefox stores the cookies in sessionstore.js as part of the session data.
You can set the <b>browser.sessionstore.privacy_level</b> pref to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS) on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable saving cookies via session restore.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar

• Firefox deletes history every time I close the browser

Firefox just deletes browsing history when I close it. I have the version 3.5.8.
I've set it to save the history for 15 days, and I don't use Private Browsing.
The strange thing is that it saves history stored more than 15 days ago, I can't even remember when I've visited those sites, but if I close the program and re-open it immediately after, all my history for today (and for the last days) is gone.
It even doesn't save history in the address bar. If i go to a site (let's say: www.ebay.com) and return to Google, if I write "Ebay" I find www.ebay.com in the suggestions of the address bar.
Now, if I close Firefox and re-open it 10 secons later, www.ebay.com is gone like I've never been to that site.
It does this every time, every day.

If you really have Firefox 3.5.8 (Help > About) then you should check the user agent.
Check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page.
You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website.
Filter: general.useragent
If any general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then right-click that pref and choose Reset.

Make sure that you not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and some features like visited links and others are disabled and not working.
You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing".
See Private Browsing and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_Private_Browsing
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
UnCheck: [[ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
Also make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History

• Firefox won't open, I've deleted old profiles, deleted all Firefox files and gone through all fixes. It still won't run.

Firefox stopped working this morning. I've gone through the process of deleting the old profile and uninstalling Firefox, then reinstalling it. It worked for about 10 minutes then disappeared again. I've gone through the whole clean reinstall and new profile process but can't get Firefox to work at all. This is really frustrating as I've spend over an hour trying to sort it out.
What can I do now?

Rather a difficult question to attempt to answer, as you obviously have already tried the obvious solutions.
Often it is security software or Firewalls interfering especially after a Firefox update. Deleting program files is required when doing a clean reinstall and you may wish to use a clean profile but it is probably best to ensure Profiles are backed up and retained maybe just move the whole profile rather than deleting them because the information is often useful. The profile has your Bookmarks and passwords etc.

Where are you getting Firefox from, you should use the official site for instance

Presumably you will be aware that supported Firefox software on Windows is a 32 bit application. That applies even when Windows 64 bit is used, as appears to be the case with the machine you posted from. I mention that in case you have been trying 64 bit builds.
What error messages are you getting ? anything in error logs ?

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

# Yes, if you go to accounts.firefox.org, sign out, you will now be signed out.
# Sign back in, and you will be asked to save the password you entered.
# This will save the password and autocomplete if you have this option turned on.
I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it?
