Firefox won't launch - I get an error message saying that firefox has to close

It tells me it's sending a message to firefox but as I can't log in it won't do this.

I've just (finally) managed to fix this problem today. I checked the Apple Support forums, and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem.
I rang the Apple Support line, and the very helpful man (thanks Alan!) talked me through it stage by stage. If you go to the following page on the internet: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376 it takes you through the process. WARNING - it takes a little time!
Basically, the first thing you have to do is go to your Program Files and double click on your iTunes folder. There'll be a number of files with the suffix .dll - you need to move all the .dll files from that folder to your desktop - you can simply click and drag them on the desktop..
Next, uninstall iTunes - go to Control Panel / Add/Rempve Programs and when the list comes up remove iTunes. This will take a few minutes... Then reboot your computer.
Next, go back to Control Panel / Add Remove and Remove - IN THIS ORDER -
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot again!
Next, check in your Program Files that the iTunes folder is completely gone - if it has, great: if it hasn't, right-click on the folder and press Shift and Delete - it will say "Are you sure you want to completely remove the folder "iTunes"? Click on "Yes".
Reboot!
Then go to the iTunes download page and voila! It should download iTunes without any problems... well it did for me.... Good luck!

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

There could be any number of items causing this. First off is do you have an active internet connection? If so have you tried rebooting you computer?

Ever since downloading and opening Firefox 4 beta, when I try to launch 3.6.8, I get an error message saying that Firefox is already running; it is not. I have removed 4.0 beta from the computer, but don't know where else to look for any bits and pieces.

I need to restart the computer in order to launch FF 3.6.8. Also, in Dreamweaver CS5, I have defined FF 3.6.8 as my default browser, but when I try to view a page in FF, I get the same message that FF is already running. Where else do I need to look to find hidden files that are causing this?

Did you uninstall the Firefox 4.0 beta version ?
If you did then did you remove the personal data or otherwise removed to Firefox profile folder ?
Make sure that you still have a (default) Firefox profile folder.<br />

This is the error message I get when I try and open Firefox:

wsock32.dll is a Windows System file which is used to connect to the internet. if you are seeing this error message then its probably because either your Antivirus program might have moved this file to the Virus Chest or this file was Deleted mistakenly. Try Restoring this file from your Anti Virus software or check if it is still available in the Recycle Bin folder.
If above suggestions don't work, see this:

Please utilize any available uninstallers that are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once all of the available uninstallers have been run you will then want to rerun the CC Cleaner Tool. I was thinking that some of the songs in your library may have been purchased under a different apple id. You have already done the first thing I would have done by de authorizing and re authorizing. To verify this, highlight one of the songs that will not sync over and use File>Get Info. In the Summary section there will be an Apple ID entry. If it shows something different than what you are currently using then I recommend signing into the Apple ID it shows and authorizing the computer for that one as well.

The update file is around 700 megs so if you're on a slow connection it does time out. You can also look into your anti virus software or firewall, it might be blocking the file. Also if you're trying to download it over 3G it won't work. There's a 20 meg cap on all 3G downloads.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
Restart the PC first.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
