Firefox won't load pages or process anything UNLESS the mouse is moving!

Ever since the latest Firefox upgrade (Firefox 4 I believe), my pages will not load unless the mouse is moving! It's very strange, but the moment I stop the mouse the progress of loading freezes, and the moment I move it again it will resume and continue for as long as the mouse is moving.
I've never experienced anything like this before. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and that looked like it solved the problem, but then it came back a few hours later. It makes watching any videos impossible, or sometimes will keep playing the sound but freeze the video image until I move the mouse and the image catches up with where the sound is at. Every page I'm on I have to keep the mouse scrolling around in a freaking circle just to keep it from freezing!
I'm so disappointed as Firefox used to be perfect to me. Is there any solution to this out there? (or am I better off with Chrome...)

So after months of this ridiculous problem not improving after endless cache clears, reboots, safe modes, extension deactivations, re-downloads, and anything else I could think of, I lost my patience and switched to Chrome for good. This is the only effective and lasting solution I have personally found.

  • Firefox won't load pages and says "Stopped" in the lower left corner of the screen.

From last night "Latest FF and XP Pro. 2.4 Ghz Celeron, 1 gig RAM. FF will work for a while, then it will stop loading pages and say "Stopped" in the lower left corner of screen. Sometimes I can refresh and the page will load, but 95 out of 100 times I can keep refreshing and it will say "Stopped". Or, the page will partially load and then quit and say "Stopped". I have disabled IPv6 and DNS Prefetching and it is still doing it. IE is doing about the same thing. VERY frustrated. My last PC started doing this and I finally upgraded to a newer one and it was fine for a couple months, but started doing the same recently. Arghhh ... Thanks!"

You, me and many others (based on threads throughout the net) have this same problem. I've had some peeps at Mozilla take a look, they couldn't find a problem or a solution.
Here's what I found does work - The problem popped up on me when I upgraded to Firefox 3.63. Uninstall FF 3.63, and install 3.59. You can still download it until end of June or July I think.
My problems went away with 3.59. Seems to only affect Window users as Mac Firefox 3.63 works fine.
Also found some threads pointing to ZoneAlarm Firewall, timeout handlers and some upload tools. I don't have ZoneAlarm so I don't think that was the cause, just another victim.
I wish Mozilla would pull the plug on 3.63, re-package 3.59 as 3.64 and go back to the drawing board until they find out whats wrong.

  • Firefox won't load pages, but other browsers will.

Firefox won't load any internet pages, but different browsers, both Chrome and Explorer work, I havent tried others. I've un-installed, changed the name of the folder of the plug-ins that were left so it wouldn't recognize them, then re-installed nothing happened. I've checeked for viruses, proxies, and i'm pretty sure its not a firewall, I think we only have one and I checked it, plus there is no prompt asking me if I want to allow firefox to access the internet. It won't run in safe mode, so its not any add-ons, clearing the cache didn't do anything either. Its also not in offline mode. What else could it be?

  • After doing a system restore, Firefox won't load pages.

I restored my laptop a couple of days ago (from a previous date, not a full system restore), now firefox will open to the home page (google), but will not load any other page. It doesn't even bring up the "page won't load" page, it just continually says 'connecting' forever. I also noticed, even when I first open firefox, and it opens the google homepage, it doesn't have google.com in the address bar, it has 'about:home'. Internet explorer seems to be working fine, and my internet connection is fine, so I am not sure what the problem seems to be.

hello rlyslowff, one thing you could try is to remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall/security software and let it detect the program again...
please also [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ update your plugins] (some of them are out-dated & have security vulnerabilities that are actively exploited on the web).

  • Firefox won't load pages unless mouse is moving or keyboard is pressed

    Hello,
I've seen this problem listed several times prior to this post, but none of the solutions have helped me.
I've been using Firefox for ages and the last 3 updates or so have been exhibiting this issue. When I attempt to load a website, Firefox will begin to take me to the page and then hang. The circle in the tab will stop moving and it will sit there until I move the mouse or press a button on the keyboard. As long as the mouse is continuously moving or keyboard buttons are pressed, the page will load fine. The same thing happens with YouTube. The video will start and then freeze unless the mouse/keyboard is moved. Firefox also exhibits this behavior when I try to download a file from a website. The download will start and then hang until I move the mouse or press a button, then it will continue for a few seconds and hang again until I repeat the mouse movement or keyboard button press.
So far, I've tried updating Firefox, Java and Flash; starting Firefox in Safe Mode; uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox: doing a complete uninstall and reinstall of Firefox with profile removal and creation. I've run the following ad and malware detection tools with no infections found: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, AdwCleaner, SuperAntispyware, Microsoft Safety Scanner, Windows Defender, Spybot Search & Destroy, Kasperky Free Security Scan and Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller.
The only thing that I've tried that "seemed" to work was starting Windows in Safe Mode with networking and running Firefox there. I was able to watch YouTube videos without freezing and websites appeared to load properly. Obviously, I can't run in Safe Mode all the time.
I've attached a screenshot of what it looks like when Firefox hangs on Google News. Notice that the images partly load, but a good number of them are either waiting or not loaded.
I hope someone can help me, since I really like Firefox and I'd hate to switch to Chrome or (shudder) IE.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Memory leak? Firefox won't load pages/open.

Ok, I believe there is a memory leak. I am surfing ok then a page wont load. I go to taskmgr and I show that one firefox has 104,990 K of memory. The rest have at most 3,000K. After the page won't load I close Firefox. It won't open. I have to turn on PC and unplug to get it to open again.

This issue can be caused by an extension or plugin that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • FireFox won't load pages, but IE explorer can.

This happens at random times when I have 2 separate windows open. When I'm trying to load a page, the browser either won't load or it's taking too long to respond to the connection. The only way I can resolve is by closing and open FireFox. But then I have to forcefully close the exe file under task manager(in which I don't like to do in most cases.) or restart my PC and it's really becoming annoying.
Any permanent solutions for this? Thanks in advance.

  • Safari & Firefox: Won't load pages with images

Everything was working fine one night, and then the next, I couldn't load any pages with graphics. The one caveat: Google loads without a problem, even a Google image search. Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs. Thoughts?
I've seen similar posts, but none of them really apply, and the only one that did, didn't have an answer.

Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs.
You're saying that, in addition to images not loading, pages are loading slowly or not at all, as well?
If this is the case, then the problem isn't isolated to images. It sounds more like a problem accessing web pages altogether.
As a troubleshooting measure, try setting fixed DNS addresses, either in your router's configuration or in System Preferences -> Network. For the latter, click on the network connection that you use, e.g. "Airport" or "Ethernet," then click on the Configure button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and enter a pair of fixed DNS addresses in the section with that label, as follows:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
You can copy and paste those directly from this forum into that DNS address field.
(Those are OpenDNS addresses, available for use by anyone. DNS addresses are the addresses of servers that tell your web browser where to look when you type a web page address in your web browser.)
If that doesn't work, the problem lies somewhere else. But your symptoms (slow or no page loads; and even when pages load, images not loading) sound a lot like the DNS problems I had before I started using alternate DNS addresses.

  • Firefox won't load pages after a while when viewing tumblr.

In both versions 6 and 7 if I'm looking at Tumblr or any site that has any java or flash, after a few minutes pages will not load. I've disabled all add-ons and plug-ins but the behavior is the same. I've reverted to using version 5.0 and everything works fine.

  • Firefox won't load pages; GUI is messed up.

As of this morning, Firefox is just really messed up. There seems to be some general interface glitch. My toolbars were all rearranged and settings for them changed, I can't open any pages, when a dialog box opens up the text is missing from it, etc.
I just updated my computer's BIOS last night, so that could be a factor. I also have two add-on's that just updated last time I ran Firefox. I'd like to disable them to see if they're the problem, but I can't actually DO anything within Firefox, so I can't disable anything. Is there a way to disable add-ons manually from outside the program? If I reinstall, is there a way to protect my bookmarks? My history seems to have disappeared already ('though I'm not sure if it's actually GONE or just not showing up).

  • Firefox won't load pages, just says "Connecting..."

This has been a problem for me since Firefox 4, continued through Firefox 5 and now Firefox 6. It has happened on my previous desktop computer as well as this current one.
The problem arises when I open more than one tab, typically. For instance, right now in Firefox (I'm using Chrome to write this) I have opened a tab and went to finalgear.com, and started navigating through the forums. Everything is running fine--fast and smooth, as I would expect.
When I open another tab and go to drudgereport.com things are still looking good. I can toggle between the two tabs, and click links without any issue.
Once I go to netflix.com in the second tab, both tabs suddenly stop working, and they just are spinning saying "Conntecting..."
This problem is not limited to Netflix--it has happened to me on numerous different sites, but Netflix happens to be the one happening at this time.
I have checked my network connection in Firefox to ensure no proxy was set. I have Windows Firewall turned off. I have no active link scanning in my anti-virus (which is Microsoft Security Essentials). I have no other anti-spyware/-malware software running.
I have tried disabling IPv6 and DNS Prefetching as indicated here: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20cannot%20load%20websites%20but%20other%20programs%20can
I have even created a new Firefox profile without importing any addons, bookmarks, or saved passwords, and had the same behavior. The troubleshooting information I have pasted below is based on that new, clean profile.
This is an extremely frustrating problem, particularly given my work in web development. IE and Chrome are insufficient.
I have tried scanning my computer with Malware bytes and Microsoft Security Essentials. I have run CCleaner, and fixed registry errors repeatedly. I have uninstalled Firefox altogether, and re-installed it. I have enabled and disabled addons. I have searched forums and found no definitive solutions. Nothing I have done has solved this problem.
    I need help!
EDITED 10/10/2011: I now have Firefox 7.0.1 and the problem continues. 40 people have this same problem, and not a single response yet.

This is not an answer. I have the same problem, what gives? None of the "solutions" have worked. The only thing left I haven't tried is resetting my IP an disabling my routers firewall, which is dangerous. Guess I might just keep on using IE instead, sure it's annoying, but hey it works.

  • Firefox won't load hotmail at random times in the day.

I am currently on the beta version but I had the same problem with the normal version of Firefox as well. The problem is this, my hotmail account loading up is very sporadic. Sometimes it will work on Firefox and other times it won't, yet if I use IE it works fine all the time. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problems or even similar circumstances.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
