Firefox won't open after restart

After I updated Firefox, it will work until I restart my computer. Then it simply won't open at all and will eventually come up with a blank window that doesn't respond. I've had this issue for months and have simply switched to Google Chrome because I didn't have the time to deal with it anymore. I'm not a novice user and I've tried everything:
It won't start in safe mode.
I've done a complete clean install, even deleting the profile information.
I've checked my firewall and my antivirus programs, and they're not the culprit.
I've fully scanned my computer for viruses/malware.
My computer is completely up to date.
I don't really know what else to do. It will only work on a fresh install before I restart my computer. There are no crash reports I can give because it's not crashing..It simply won't open. I'm running Windows 7 on a Thinkpad Edge.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 22.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • [SOLVED] Firefox won't open after restart..Until I updated everything

When I start my computer or reboot Firefox won't open unless I keep clicking the icon. I have it pinned to the task bar and it's set as default. when I click the icon it glows orange but then fades back to clear. sometimes as many as 15 - 20 times before it starts. I clean the temporary files every day with CCleaner. I'm not that computer smart but I haven't changed any settings and it was working perfectly until a few days ago. Once it opens I have o problems opening it and closing it
    UPDATE:
I disabled the Facebook video call plug in updated all my Firefox stuff and it opened first try

Thank you Alice It took me two years to get Firefox looking exactly how I wanted it. I'm not very good with computers. I thought I would have to start over. The strange thing is there was no indication of a problem. It just wouldn't open. Skype kept crashing my computer so I followed their instructions on removing everything in the registry. I remembered something about Facebook video chat being through Skype so it just made sense to disable it. I didn't even know I had it until I updated the rest of the stuff. I don't know if that was it but Firefox is working and that's what matters.

  • Firefox won't open after re-installing and can't remove from control panel. What do I do?

After a storm and short power failure, I started having trouble with certain sites loading, and pages moving slower. I emptied my cache and defragged and ran total virus/ malware scan, but still had problem. (Pages loaded fine on AOL) I decided to uninstall Firefox and re-install to help fix problem. I did this, and now Firefox won't open, no matter if I double click, right click (open), or go through "all programs". I tried to uninstall and re-install again, but now I can't get it to respond through my control panel, either.

Try the procedures in the [[Firefox will not start]] article.

  • Firefox won't open after i downloaded a Page Speed browser add-on

I went to Google Webmaster Central. To check my site performance it asked me to :
Install the Page Speed browser add-on
Use Page Speed to evaluate the performance of your pages and get suggestions on how to improve them. Learn more
    Install Page Speed
    Install while using Firefox
The "Install Page Speed" being https://dl-ssl.google.com/page-speed/current/page-speed.xpi
It then asked me to restart firefox. I said ok and firefox switched off but never started again. It won't open when i try to start it again.
I have a lot of saved bookmarks and don't want to loose them. Will this happen if i uninstall and reload firefox or is there a way to get this version working again.

Try opening Firefox in [[safe mode]], whilst in safe mode you can access the add-ons manager and uninstall the Page Speed Browser extension. Hopefully this will resolve your problem.

  • Firefox won't open after computer is turned on.

Every time I turned on my computer for the day and go to open Firefox, it won't open. It doesn't get any error messages but it then works fine after I do a reboot of my computer. It's getting very annoying. I have Firefox 18.0.2.

Norton 360 Premier Edition. Firefox works fine after I reboot my computer but it's during the time I first turn it on for the day it don't want to load, after I'd do a reboot it loads fine.

  • Firefox won't open after close.

Every time I close firefox it won't open back up. I kept deleting the old profile and it'd load up once and then after I closed it again it stopped working. I have narrowed the problem down. If I delete xpti.dat and compreg.dat it will start just fine, for one time. I am planning on making a sh script to do that automatically, but would still like to know why this is happening.

    Hello Christopher.
Hopefully this support article is what you need:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs
In any case, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.

  • Firefox won't open after update/upgrade--how do I correct this?WinXP SP3

I got a message saying I should update/upgrade. I did AFTER SETTING RESTORE POINT. After this Firefox will not open (I have tried several ways). I went to restore point and restored. Still will not open. If I can't get it working I will look for another browser. I am now using IE and it is too slow. Thanks for help.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox won't open after sleep mode on mac

I have a mac mini 10.9.5 and because I use it so often, I usually put it to sleep rather than shut it off. When I wake the computer and try to open Firefox from my dock, the page won't load - or it loads a blank page. I have to wait a couple of minutes or so until the "Icon wheel" stops spinning, then close it and reopen it. It works the second time, every time however. If I try to close it while the "icon wheel" is still spinning and reopen it it just does the same thing (won't open again) which just prolongs the frustration. So I HAVE to wait for the wheel to stop and then retry it every time. If a blank page comes up and I try to go to my GMail, then that page won't load until I reopen Firefox. Very frustrating! Any ideas? BTW I am not great with computers so I would appreciate very detailed instructions.
I came to the conclusion that a computer is like a person maybe. And that when you wake it up it takes a few minutes for it to get alert again.... Is that the case?

One of the old work arounds for this was to minimize the browser before putting computer to sleep.
However you might also benefit from trying to browse in safe mode to see if its an acceleration or add on issue. Let it go to sleep and does it still happen?

  • Firefox won't open after updates, unless I start it in safe mode

If Firefox has an update, and I let it update, it will not restart in regular windows. If I click the icon, nothing ever happens. This has been going on for awhile now, it is not a new problem for me. I'm running Windows 7.
The only way for me to fix this issue is to go into SAFE MODE and open Firefox from there, then it finishes the update and will let me load it in regular windows. It is extremely annoying, I have done fresh installs of the program multiple times, that doesn't help.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Firefox won't open after update, black screen, beep and "do you want to allow program to make changes..."

Updated Firefox yesterday and now the program will not open on my desktop. '''Try the Firefox Safe Mode''' to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.

  • Firefox won't open after last update on a Snow Leopard Macbook Pro

    Hi there,
I just updated Firefox and it now bounces in the dock and then stops bouncing and the little dot below disappears. I've tried restarting the machine and downloading Firefox again. There's no error message given. Does anyone have any ideas ?
    Thanks,

  • Firefox won't open after checking for add-on updates

    Hi
i am having problems with Add-ons checking for updates.
The first problem is that in add-on manager, even though i have it set to automatically update add-ons, it has no history of finding any and it's failure to find a new version of a plug-in meant pdfs weren't opening see full details here ... https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/829011
The problem i am now having is that when i manually check for updates in Add-Ons manager, it pauses for a few seconds, and completes it's task by saying it hasn't found anything. If i then close Firefox, i can't open Firefox again until i go into task manager and kill the process. It says it's already running and i have to close it first?!

can't believe that i was the only person to have the problem, but no replies whatsoever suggest i was. have now upgraded to 5.0 where the problem has not yet reoccurred.

  • RH won't open after restart

I have a pretty standard settup on my machine: Windows XP, RoboHelp 7, and Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard.
RoboHelp 5 worked fine, I upgraded to RoboHelp 7 and it works fine until I logout my machine. After a logout, I cannot open any RH projects or RH itself. It's like RH tries to open (there is a little flash of the hourglass for a split second), but then nothing. No startup display or error is shown. If I reinstall it works fine until I logout or shutdown.
All my projects are RH HTML. Installing RH software updates doesn't seem to work.

Think carefully about what you have on this standalone machine. Could anything else be causing a conflict?
Either you need to contact TechSupport or try one last ditch solution if you are reasonably PC savvy.
    Download and install http://www.revouninstaller.com
Deactivate and uninstall RH7 using that with the advanced settings. Make sure you only choose to delete the registry options shown bold.
    Reboot
Now reinstall X5. You will not be able to open it but that does not matter.
    Reboot.
Uninstall that with revouninstaller. I am hoping it will remove something that RH left behind last time.
    Reboot.
Reinstall RH7 and see if that now works.
This is at your own risk. If in doubt, get the assistance of someone with more PC knowledge. (Not meant rudely. I simply do not know your level of skill)
