Firefox won't open... at all. On a Mac running the beta. What should I do?

Not sure what happened, but I can't open Firefox anymore. I'm on a Mac and pretty sure I've been using the beta release. I remember it updating a few days ago, but anyway... it won't open. I've tried rebooting... nothing. It doesn't load. It just... sits there with the light on under it in the dock, but if I do a Force Quit.... it shows as not responding. How can I uninstall/reinstall ... without losing my bookmarks? It's been doing this for the past two days. Thanks. No offense to other browsers, but I hate everything except for Firefox.

What happens??? What are your system specs??

    Hello, discodiva64
Thank you for the question.  Try uninstalling all components of iTunes in the order specified of the article below.  Once this is done attempt to install iTunes again.

Try holding down the sleep and home buttons for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple it's rebooting and just let it do its thing.

  • Firefox won't open at all, and when I try to use the 'run' feature, it says the file has been moved, etc. I use Windows 8 and I can not lose my bookmarks. Help?

Firefox has been working great on my computer for months, and then all the sudden it wouldn't load any pages. So naturally I restarted my computer, but when it restarted Firefox wouldn't open at all. The icon glows for a bit like normal, then it fades and never actually opens. When I try to use the 'run' command, I get this error:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location."
I also tried the same for the file in the x86 folder but it gave the same error, and I went and looked for the files in the location given and they were there.
Firefox didn't crash, so there aren't any other error messages I can give you.
The things I had bookmarked are really important, I can not lose those, but other than that I'm fine with anything else needing to re-installed, etc.
    Help please?

But I can't... find... it... It's not there.
Unless you're talking about the entire Mozilla Firefox folder (which isn't what the thing you copied says,) there is no installation folder.

  • I just did two System Restores (and clicked something that asked me about "[something -exe]," and now Firefox won't open at all.

I hope someone can help. My husband did something to update Firefox (or Firefox just automatically updated today, I don't know which), but I didn't like the new toolbar much, so I did a System Restore to get back the old one. That didn't work, so I then did another System Restore for an earlier day, but when I restarted the computer, Firefox wouldn't open at all.
A pop-up asked me something about "allowing 'something-.exe' at start-up," with options like "Remember this action, don't allow, and allow," I think, and I don't remember what I clicked, and that's likely part of the problem, but in any case, I can't get Firefox to start now. I click on the logo/icon and nothing happens.
I tried to undo both System Restores, but the computer would only restore the most recent one, not both.
And I tried, as suggested on the forum elsewhere, to go into "Firefox Safe Mode," but that didn't help either.
    Thank you for any help.

That's what happened to me too after I upgraded to firefox 4 and it wouldn't connect to my internet. Now I'm stuck with Internet Explorer with none of my important personal information like my favorites.

  • Firefox won't open; tried all I found on this site; can't get in to disable add-ons.

Firefox will not open. Little wheel spins, then disappears. Nothing.
    Re-started computer - several times.
Reinstalled Firefox. Nothing. Can't open in Admin. Can't open with double click or with right-click "Open".
Many fixes on this site suggest going to the Firefox button to disable add-ons - of which I have few - however since Firefox won't start, I can't try these options.
Can't get to my profile. (Have not changed my profile or add-ons for ages.)
This seems to have happened right after the most recent update.
I've read everything I can find on this website and other places, and can't make it work.
Can't find old Firefox on program list, thus can't uninstall old version - perhaps this occurred automatically with new Firefox download?.
Ran Spybot and deleted some adware and mal-ware. Still nothing. Ran Microsoft Security - nothing.
    I'm running Windows 7.
I can't open the troubleshooting file offered below.
Firefox was working well until yesterday. Sigh. Can anyone help with this?

You can use one of these to start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u>:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
*On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
*Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 22.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • My firefox won't open at all on my user id on Windows 7, it keeps saying 'Firefox is allready running but isn't responding' etc.

I install firefox normally, on my user id on Windows 7. But it won't open. It keeps saying 'Firefox is allready running but isn't answering. A new window can't be opened until all of firefox' processes have been shut down or the system rebootet.
This is a translation of the text as my user language is finnish.
I've also checked my fathers user id on this computer, there the firefox works, no problem.
I suspect the problem was born when I tried to take an old firefox backup into use. I think I did it wrong... Or, the backup was to old.

You can try to move the entire Firefox folder to a different location to make Firefox create a new file structure for the profile folder.
    * Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\
    * "Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
    * Use %APPDATA% in the File name field
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders"<br />
To see the file extensions of all files uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types"

  • Firefox won't open at all since May 4 update, yet no error message appears. Am not savvy/brave enough to test for corrupt Profile data. HELP, PLEASE!

Tried to start Firefox 3.6.16 from Desktop May 4. Instead of opening, message showed an update in progress, then a message that it could not install because two Firefox programs were running (?). After the install message closed Firefox wouldn’t open from the Desktop, the Start Menu, or the Run command. I’ve rebooted numerous times & even did a System Restore to May 3.
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox currently shows only one firefox.exe, last modified 03/23/11, and the only changes May 4 to chrome folder (6 Executable Jar Files), components folder (browser.xpt), & blocklist.xml.

Thank you very, very much for providing the simple, concise directions that solved my problem! After sorely missing Firefox 3.6.16 for a month, today I finally worked up the courage/got desperate enough to attempt (with much trepidation!) the download and re-installation.
Step 4 was a bit of a challenge, but following Uninstall directions in the 3.6.16 Release Notes advising removal through Control Panel appears to have preserved my Profile and worked fine. Was not quite sure how to go about properly removing the Firefox program folder, so I opened Local Disk (C:)/Program Files/ and deleted (to Recycle Bin) the Mozilla Firefox folder – and am keeping fingers crossed that that was the correct method.
It was quite a satisfying thrill when Firefox 3.6.17 opened, but very distressing to note that “Firefox 3.6.x will be maintained with security and stability updates for a short amount of time. All users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 4”. Sadly, it seems all things Internet seem to be evolving towards mobile devices, social networking, and the ability to sync all the fancy new toys – and getting much to complex for us old dogs who don’t learn new tricks easily, or need them for that matter.
    Thanks again!

  • Firefox 4 could not be made to show bookmarks on Vista 64bit. I used system restore to get back to older version. Now Firefox won't open at all even after undoing system restore

I use Vista 64 bit. Was fine with older Version of Firefox (3.6, I believe). Upgraded to Ver. 4. Couldn't access extensive bookmarks file or bookmarks toolbar. Tried all the Firefox help recs and they didn't work. Clicking the top button would give list of toolbars but when I tried to move to bookmarks toolbar the menu changed. Tried going thru tools and options and that didn't work. So decided to use System Restore to get old Firefox version back. Icons remained but program wouldn't open. Tried many ways, including start menu. Old version is still on program control file but only option is to uninstall. So went back to System Restore to get Vers. 4 back and it's not there. What to do?? I can use Google Chrome or Internet Explorer but I want all my 100's of bookmarks back. Thank you.

  • Firefox won't open at all

Firefox ia not working, it will not open at all, although it is showing up on the bottom bar as if it IS open. I have tried un-installing and updating it but it is still happening.

    Hi jules78,
There is a [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox-not-start Knowledge Base article] that covers this topic. It might be useful.
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
There is also a lot of useful stuff in the [[Firefox crashes]] Knowledge Base article.
    Hopefully this helps!

    I'm using Max OS 10.4.11

Unfortunately, Mac OS 10.4 does not support Firefox 4...see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installing_Firefox Installing Firefox]. I would recommend you uninstall, and then reinstall the latest build of [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older Firefox 3.6].

  • Firefox will not open at all. I only get the Mozilla Crash Reporter over and over.

After updating yesterday, Firefox will not open. I repeatedly get the Mozilla Crash Reporter. I've scanned my computer for malware, I've tried to open it in safe mode (it won't), I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled Mozilla, but nothing works. Each time I reinstall, I still get the Mozilla Crash Reporter. The program will not open at all.
I ran my crash ID. Here is the info: bp-eff196eb-ed21-45ee-83c6-e0fc42130123

hello, this crash is caused by Websense Endpoint security software that is running on the system. please try to install all the updates for this program that are available...

  • Sometimes Firefox won't start at all. If I restart the laptop, it does eventually start up. I am wondering if it is having problems with BitDefender wh;ich we have installed on the laptop and appears to be slowing online work.

When this occurs, Internet Explorer usually will start, but sometimes it is affected also and similarly will not start until the laptop is re-booted. I have tried all possible ways of starting Firefox but there doesn't seem to be any difference. Occasionally Firefox will start after some other work is done on the laptop without re-booting. Other work requiring an internet connection (updates mostly) do not seem to be affected ie. they work OK even when Firefox and Internet Explorer won't start. When I say "won't start" there is no message or anything, they just won't start.

  • Firefox won't open after sleep mode on mac

I have a mac mini 10.9.5 and because I use it so often, I usually put it to sleep rather than shut it off. When I wake the computer and try to open Firefox from my dock, the page won't load - or it loads a blank page. I have to wait a couple of minutes or so until the "Icon wheel" stops spinning, then close it and reopen it. It works the second time, every time however. If I try to close it while the "icon wheel" is still spinning and reopen it it just does the same thing (won't open again) which just prolongs the frustration. So I HAVE to wait for the wheel to stop and then retry it every time. If a blank page comes up and I try to go to my GMail, then that page won't load until I reopen Firefox. Very frustrating! Any ideas? BTW I am not great with computers so I would appreciate very detailed instructions.
I came to the conclusion that a computer is like a person maybe. And that when you wake it up it takes a few minutes for it to get alert again.... Is that the case?

One of the old work arounds for this was to minimize the browser before putting computer to sleep.
However you might also benefit from trying to browse in safe mode to see if its an acceleration or add on issue. Let it go to sleep and does it still happen?
