Firefox won't open normally. Only opens in safe mode. Help?

I was just surfing and listening to spotify (separate app) on Windows 8 and all of a sudden all of my applications that i had open froze. i turned off the computer and turned it back on and everything worked normal except for firefox. it just kept giving me the crash reporter. the report id is Crash ID: bp-0ea35c7a-76c2-4f0e-bffb-c73342140920
I can only open it in safe mode. What can I do?

Looks like that crash was caused by '''url_advisor.dll''' .
http://www.processadvisory.com/library/url-advisor-dll
"This library belongs in most cases to product Kaspersky Anti-Virus and is developed by Kaspersky Lab ZAO company."
If you are running Kaspersky, check for updates for that application and any Firefox add-ons that Kaspersky installed.

  • Firefox won't open in safe mode, and it crashes every time I open it

I'm running Firefox 3.6 on a Mac 10.6.6 (snow leopard)
Firefox crashes every time I open it, even if I try to open it in safe mode. I thought it might be something to do with add-ons -- the problems seemed to start happening after I upgraded an Adobe Flash Player but I can't figure it out. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the flash player but no luck.
I'm a computer newbie so please, if giving help, keep directions simple! Thank you.

  • I have no navigation bar and firefox will not open in safe mode to reset to default config. Reinstalling doesn't work. Any help please.

I have no navigation bar ever since I closed it to gain more space on the screen. It won't re-open. Firefox will not open in safe mode, but opens immediately in normal mode with the new improper config, so I cannot reset to default config. I erased Firefox and re-installed and it still opens with the same faulty config. Why does Firefox not give me the safe mode dialog box, why can I not re-open the nav bar, and how can I do these two things, please? Firefox is currently unusable for me without a nav bar and without access to the default settings in safe mode. I cannot research the extensions I'm running since I have no nav bar to go to Tools, Add-ons, Extensions.

  • My iMac won't boot. I only get a white screen.  Won't open in safe mode or recovery mode.  Any suggestions?

Hey, any help?  My 24" iMac won't boot.  I only get a white screen when turning on.  It won't open in safe or recovery mode.  Any suggestions?

If you can't boot from your installer DVD, then take it in for service.

  • MacBook Pro won't start in normal mode and won't open in safe mode.

My Mac suddenly won't open in normal mode. It just stays on the apple logo and won't continue. Then, I tried going on Safe Mode. Unfortunately, it only loads up to the Apple Logo with the progress bar below it. I would load one-third the bar and shut down completely. What do I do?

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Safari and Firefox won't open served ASP pages - HELP!

Both Safari and Firefox will not open *.asp web pages automatically. I mean, I know ASP is a Microsoft product, but REALLY. This is ridiculous! ASP is very common on the web. Mac should automatically handle these pages just like any other HTML type of page. But until Apple comes to its senses to make life a little easier for those of us who chose to buy their product and use it in the real world, can somebody please tell me how to configure my Mac to open ASPs automatically? Right now both Safari and Firefox want to download the pages instead of just opening them. And then it asks me what application I want to use to open it. Duh! Obviously I want to open it in Firefox or Safari so I can view the darn thing! Please - I don't need any explanation of what ASP is. I know what it is. Please just tell me how to get my Mac to display the served pages. Thank you!!!!

This is not a standard problem with Safari/Firefox on the Mac that I can see. For example, when I go to http://www.boursedata.com.au/solutions/default.asp it loads the page normally (note: I have a historical association to that company... I have used it because I know it uses asp!).
What does it do for you?

  • Firefox won't open after sleep mode on mac

I have a mac mini 10.9.5 and because I use it so often, I usually put it to sleep rather than shut it off. When I wake the computer and try to open Firefox from my dock, the page won't load - or it loads a blank page. I have to wait a couple of minutes or so until the "Icon wheel" stops spinning, then close it and reopen it. It works the second time, every time however. If I try to close it while the "icon wheel" is still spinning and reopen it it just does the same thing (won't open again) which just prolongs the frustration. So I HAVE to wait for the wheel to stop and then retry it every time. If a blank page comes up and I try to go to my GMail, then that page won't load until I reopen Firefox. Very frustrating! Any ideas? BTW I am not great with computers so I would appreciate very detailed instructions.
I came to the conclusion that a computer is like a person maybe. And that when you wake it up it takes a few minutes for it to get alert again.... Is that the case?

One of the old work arounds for this was to minimize the browser before putting computer to sleep.
However you might also benefit from trying to browse in safe mode to see if its an acceleration or add on issue. Let it go to sleep and does it still happen?

  • Firefox won't open no error message, tried everything in the help article nothing works. Won't even open in safe mode. help!

When I click on the firefox icon (windows 7) nothing happens. not even in safe mode. Nothing in the help article works. I've tried uninstalling twice.

Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:

  • Downloaded latest Firefox version. Firefox will not open in safe mode. Consistent crash report.

Responded to upgrade notice for Firefox 11. Downloaded and installed following directions. Message about RealPlayer add in needing manual update. No other errors with install. Displays crash reporter when opening. In safe mode, also displays crash reporter. Will not open. Unable to do anything in Firefox. This note is written in IE.

  • TS1717 iTunes won't open in safe mode either

After my last update iTunes won't open as usual or in safe mode.

Hold down the shift key while starting.  Will it create new library and open?  If not then it is possible your installation was bad.

  • IMac won't open in safe mode

Trying to open my mac in safe mode, but just keeps opening normally, even though i am holding the shift key straight after the start up tone

You need your original restore DVD, or a Snow Leopard DVD, or some other OS X install disk such as a bootable clone that can boot your computer.
Then, you can install using the archive & install option.
That should get you going again, - unless your hard drive is failing...

  • I received a Firefox update message, ran the update and now Firefox won't open at all. Help?

    I'm using Max OS 10.4.11

    Hi there,
Unfortunately, Mac OS 10.4 does not support Firefox 4...see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installing_Firefox Installing Firefox]. I would recommend you uninstall, and then reinstall the latest build of [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older Firefox 3.6].

  • After cleaning some malware off my system yesterday, Firefox won't open except directly after a system restart. Help?

Have reinstalled Firefox, renamed the .exe, no luck. Did another scan with Malwarebytes today and system came up clean. After reading online, it seems that this is not an uncommon problem. Can anyone offer assitance?
Oh, Firefox will not open in safe mode either.
    Thanks!

Thanks, but I did a bunch of researching beforehand and none of that stuff applies. I get absolutely nothing when clicking the shortcut, going to the actual .exe, or trying to start in safe mode. Also, this is a fresh install after deleting my old profile.
Oh, and I am killing all the running instances of 'firefox.exe' in the task manager.
    Any thoughts?

  • PowerPC G5 iMac only booting up in Safe-mode - Help!

In July of 2005, I purchased my PowerPC G5 20" iMac, 2.0GHz, +260 GB harddrive and 2 GB of DDR SDRAM. It has been running so great that I even upgraded to Leopard OS 10.5.6 in June of 2011.
However in Nov. 2011, the computer would freeze upon start-up, and I would have to hold the power button to shut it down. After waiting a minute I would start it up and the OS came up ok. But each week I had to shut it down and restart a few times before it booted up ok. I ran the OS Disk Utility to repair permissions and it did not seem to make a difference. I also ran MacTuneUp 3.6.0 (purchased it in 2010), and there was also no difference.
Now I can ONLY boot into Safe-mode - Help!!!

    Discovered something new!
I left my iPhone connected to the iMac, and when starting up the computer the iPhone started charging. When the screen froze (light blue shade, not black screen), the iPhone stopped charging. (no charge?).
BTW....my mouse always moves when in frozen state.
I also tried starting up (c-key) using OS 10.5.6 CD and computer also froze in light-blue screen. The computer tried to access the CD but then gave up. After leaving the computer for awhile the screen power saving mode was on (screen was black). When I moved the mouse the screen changed from black to light-blue screen. Boot CD did not work. No keyboard commands work. Only holding the power button will shut down the computer.
    Help!!

  • Mac won't open pages in browsers. Chrome and Firefox won't open any pages - Safari will only open a selected few.

I've had some strange browser issues, with Conduit being added to Chrome (which I've tried to remove via the browser settings). Chrome will open my Gmail account but no ther pages. Firefox won't open anything. Safari opens a few pages (this forum thankfully) but is very selective.
Google is returning results to me via Google.es rather than Google.co.uk
I can use all browsers freely on other devices on home network (although Google.es has popped up on my iPhone now). I've run anti-virus software which hasn't picked up any problems. I've tried uninstalling Chrome and Firefox, but am unable to do so.
Any help or guidance would be really, really appreciated.
I'm running the most recent version of Mavericks on  2012 iMac.

    Hi,
First of all click Safari/Reset Safari, next click Safari/Preferences/Extensions and turn off extensions. The re-test
If the problem persists, try using safari in safe mode:
Use this link to see how to do this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If Safari works ok in safe mode, then your problem points to something 3rd party related.
    Have a look at this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3230?viewlocale=en_US
    I hope this helps

In order to test the problem, I think my suggestion is better; at least as a first try. Without Firefox running and without ~/.mozilla; no misconfiguration should prevent Firefox to run. The options you suggest will try to disable any problematic configuration. It can be usefull if you need to start Firefox to fix a configuration problem; but as a firt try renaming the ~/.mozilla is better because you are sure that Firefox can't read anything that can hurt it. Only after having figured out that a bad ~/.mozilla is the cause of the problem, we can try to fix the configuration (or restart with a new configuration).
