Firefox won't open on new Mac OS - profile cannot be found

I have a new Mac and have not been able to open FF. I just get this message: "your firefox profile cannot be loaded. it may be missing or inaccessible"
I have followed all the advice to be found. I have no Profile Manager. I have no folders in my Library, Utilities, Applications, or Users with a profile.ini I can't find any folders or documents anywhere with Firefox or Mozilla other than the application itself...which won't open.
I removed Firefox from my computer entirely, reinstalled, restarted the computer - everything. I still get this message.
Would appreciate some useful advice.

Restoring a previous version of the profiles.ini file won't help because this is about the profile folder that is registered in profiles.ini is missing on that hard drive,
The most likely cause is a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.
*Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
*Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
*Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\<br>C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\&lt;profile&gt;\
You can use one of these to make Firefox create/use a new default profile:
*Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile
*Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile
*Use "Choose Folder" when you create a new profile to select the location of a lost profile and recover this profile

  • Firefox won't open links from Mac Mail

Like everyone else Apple Mail links will not open in Firefox if it is already open. Clicking a link brings FF to the front but no page loads. Links work if FF is not open. Links work if command is pressed whilst clicking the link (opens in new tab in background).
Problem occurred after 32.0.2 update, it appeared to briefly resolve itself after 32.0.3 update, but stopped (I think) on next reboot.
Have monkeyed around for ages with different combinations of default browser and rebooting.
Will abandon FF and go back to Safari if this isn't sorted soon - shame.

I just want to link to these earlier threads so you don't get a lot of duplicate suggestions that have already been covered there:
    * [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1018542 Firefox won't open email links after update to version 32]
    * [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1023202 No tab opens when I click on a link if any Firefox window is already open]
(There might be others, but those are the ones I've seen)
Work is proceeding on [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1017595 Bug #1017595 – Links from external applications sometimes fail to open when Firefox is hidden] but as you can tell from the title, this is focused on the problem of Firefox not coming out of hiding from the dock or coming out of hiding but not loading the page. If this also occurs when Firefox is not hidden at all, there may be a secondary issue. But hopefully solving the one will solve the other. Unfortunately, I don't know whether it will be in time for Firefox 33.

In order to test the problem, I think my suggestion is better; at least as a first try. Without Firefox running and without ~/.mozilla; no misconfiguration should prevent Firefox to run. The options you suggest will try to disable any problematic configuration. It can be usefull if you need to start Firefox to fix a configuration problem; but as a firt try renaming the ~/.mozilla is better because you are sure that Firefox can't read anything that can hurt it. Only after having figured out that a bad ~/.mozilla is the cause of the problem, we can try to fix the configuration (or restart with a new configuration).

I've been using Firefox for years, however as of last week I can no longer open a new tab. I have to go to "file > new window" new tab quick function nor dropdown work. I'm using a Mac OS X 10.9.3.

  • Firefox won't open, I've deleted old profiles, deleted all Firefox files and gone through all fixes. It still won't run.

Firefox stopped working this morning. I've gone through the process of deleting the old profile and uninstalling Firefox, then reinstalling it. It worked for about 10 minutes then disappeared again. I've gone through the whole clean reinstall and new profile process but can't get Firefox to work at all. This is really frustrating as I've spend over an hour trying to sort it out.
    What can I do now?

Rather a difficult question to attempt to answer, as you obviously have already tried the obvious solutions.
Often it is security software or Firewalls interfering especially after a Firefox update. Deleting program files is required when doing a clean reinstall and you may wish to use a clean profile but it is probably best to ensure Profiles are backed up and retained maybe just move the whole profile rather than deleting them because the information is often useful. The profile has your Bookmarks and passwords etc.

Presumably you will be aware that supported Firefox software on Windows is a 32 bit application. That applies even when Windows 64 bit is used, as appears to be the case with the machine you posted from. I mention that in case you have been trying 64 bit builds.

I read the system requirements for Firefox 4. My mac should be compatible. I had Firefox 3.6? on my mac. Am running Mac OS 10.4.11.
