Firefox won't recognize FF account username on a new install on new computer.

I know I have the right username, email, and password, because I am looking at them on my existing laptop. But on installing FF 28 on my new laptop and trying to start the Sync process, I keep getting the message "unknown account."
I am getting this sign in message when I choose start sync process on my new computer. But I can't sign in, let alone start the pairing process.
I have done the pairing process before, recently, with my desktop and my existing laptop, so I know it works. Something about FF is not allowing it to recognize my correct email.
I'm on Win 8.1.
Thank you.

Thanks. It turns out I got my new computer at the exact time that FF dramatically changed their sync system. There was never a previous email or username or password, so the sign in page was misleading. Many users reading this will have to create an account, upgrade all their synced computers, unsync them, then sign in to their new FF accounts. Syncing will happen automatically.
The problem with "automatic" syncing was illustrated by my experience. Instead of syncing on the computer I wanted to copy, it synced from the computer I wanted to change. So, all my computers got all the bad passwords and duplicates of many good ones. It took a long time to straighten that out. But I made the changes on one computer and that changed the others. And new changes will automatically update. So it's an "easier" system. Still, I wish there was a way to choose when to sync. But thanks for the help anyway.

  • I have a sync key, have installed Firefox 28, but it won't recognize my account?

Ok. Firefox was my main browser on my old laptop, but I ended up having to wipe it's hard drive a few weeks back.
Before I wiped the hard drive I saved a recovery key. It did not say that I needed an account, just the key, so that is literally all I have. I did not have a firefox account back then. (Note: I'm pretty sure I didn't have an account at least, because when I searched for an account on Firefox with the only two emails that I use it couldn't find an account under either.)
Now that I'm trying to recover my old data, I've read that I have to download a pre-29 version of Fireox, so I got Firefox 28 mobile, but the damn thing insists that I need a Firefox account ALONG WITH the recovery key to gather the old data. It won't recognize my new account info (that I just made when I downloaded the newest version of Firefox before realizing it wouldn't be able to sync), so now here I am. With a seemingly useless sync key, a useless sync account, and all of my old bookmarks and passwords lost to the ages.
Is there anything I can do, or should I just give up?

hello, for the old sync system in firefox 28 and below you also had to sign up with a mail address and password originally - to connect firefox to the old account you would need to have all those three pieces (mail, password & recovery key) available to you unfortunately...

  • Firefox won't recognize latest update HP simple pass

I have tried everything and about just to say the heck with it and go back to IE9. But, I will ask.
WHY does Firefox refuse to recognize the latest upgrade to HP simple pass (Egistech) that is loaded onto my computer. It keeps saying the current 5.0 version is not recognized. Ok, I understand this, but I have loaded version 7.1 and firefox evidently cannot see it and keeps telling me 5.0 is installed.
Am I doing something wrong, or is Firefox just worthless and IE9 is the way to go?

Does Firefox find other plugins placed in that folder?
Note that you need to place a symlink to the libnpjp2.so file and not the actual file.
You can also try to create a plugins folder in your home directory: ~/.mozilla/plugins

I have another kind of problem with Firefox
    == Description
    ==
This problem only occurs the first time I open Firefox after turning on the computer, but it occurs EVERY time I turn on the computer. Every time I turn on the computer and open Firefox, none of my add-ons are seen as updated or installed (although they are all updated and compatible). I need to "find and install updates" then restart Firefox. Once this has been done, I can open and close Firefox with no problems, but it only works fine until the next time I re-boot and I have to go through that all again.

  • Apple creates Drivers but WINDOWS won't recognize them and doesn't let me install W7

    Hi dear Mac users,
Boot Camp Assistant creates my drivers for me and I can place them either in a CD or a USB Disk.
I start W7 installation and it ask me for MAC drivers, even thought I browse drivers location W7 won't recognize them.
So i checked, most of the drivers are .exe, but W7 asks for the drivers long before the installation.
    (I have W7 Home Premium)
So either I'm really really dumb or there's something wrong,
    Thx for your help,
    Alessandro

Is it asking for Mac Boot Camp drivers OR  is it a generic Windows error asking for CD/DVD drivers?
If it's asking for CD/DVD drivers then it seems there is an issue with burning a W7 .iso, etc, images onto a disk on the Mac side. The W7 installer has the basic drivers already for everything so it can start up on any machine, for some reason that part of the iso gets buggered up when burning a disk. (or maybe gets corrupted when downloaded?). It seems to work best at x1 or x2 speeds and you may have to try other brands of disks. If you know anyone with a Windows machine you can try that.
Do a search for burning Windows 7 iso or something like that as there are quite a few post's about it.

  • Firefox Won't open.. I uninstalled and re-installed and nothing happens when i launch it.

I'm not sure what triggered this. the firfox file shows as running in Wondoas Task managers process and Services tabs.. yet the GUI won't display. If its been blocked via registry trigger etc I don't know how it happened. I use several add-ons and will unistall my personal setting with the new install next if I can't find help here.

I also have this (on Windows XP Pro 64), happened after I installed the latest Avast a/v last weekend after renewing my subscription, but, it may not be the cause. I uninstalled FF, removed all registry enrties and re-installed FF.
But, same as before, I click FF to launch, I see it appear in Task Manager Processes, it does not appear in the Application list, and I can get up to 3 or 4 instances of FF in Task Manager Processes. I end each process to get back to one, or none. Sometimes removing one will remove all, so, there is something causing an interdependency between the multiple FF processes.
Before this happened, about 2 weeks ago, FF somehow made itself primary browser (I run Chrome, IE, Opera & Safari for checking web build work). I put it back IE as primary browser, but after that, whenever I opened any email link in Outlook, IE would appear as a blank page and FF would also open with my default home webpage. If I click the Outlook email link again, the link target would then open in IE leaving FF still showing my home page. Weird.
I have re-set the URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( and the similar ones) using Folder Options / Advanced / Edit Open to set it back to IE for application to be used, and tried disabling 'Use DDE'. Something keeps re-generating it back. Given up, just click the email links twice.
Does any one have an answer to FF not loading, its my essential main browser for much of my work.

  • Firefox won't recognize hyperlinks in PeoplePC Webmail message text

When I paste or type in a hyperlink in the body of an email, Internet Explorer recognizes it, and it arrives at the receiver's computer as a hyperlink, which he or she can click on to bring up the web page.
With Firefox, it just arrives as text, and if the person wants to look at the web page it links to, they have to copy it to the window at the top of another browser window.
Can this be fixed, so that Firefox will recognize the hyperlink automatically, and send it as such?

Something else that might be helpful to the person reading this: Another help page says to go to Options, then Content, check off Enable Javascript. My Content page doesn't show that. I have Firefox 30.0

  • Apple tv won't recognize iTunes account information

apple tv will allow us to enter pics in photostream.  But we cannot log in to computers iTunes.  We have sharing on.  We have confirmed id and password in the iTunes account.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV will work with ethernet or wifi, regardless of how the computer is connected to the network. The first thing I'd check is that both devices are using the same network (check the IP addresses of each, the first 3 combinations of numbers should be identical, ie 192.168.1.xx).
    Also try restarting your router.
I'm assuming it's just iTunes on your mac/pc that it can't connect to, not the iTunes store, YouTube etc etc.

  • IChat won't recognize AIM account password

Hi, I tried to use iChat for the first time today by establishing an AIM.com account.
iChat has the right account name for me, but every single time I try to log in, it tells me that the password or id is incorrect. I can log into AIM.com just fine. I checked the iChat preferences and put in all the right information and it is still refusing to log me in, saying it is incorrect.
How should I proceed? I have an important video conference to do with iChat this week, very concerned. Thank you.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Can I ask if you registered a straight forward name as in ralphjohns or used and existing email address ?
If you used an email address does it have any unusual characters ?
For a long time the AIM servers have had links to various ISPs and Apple to allow those Email addresses to be valid AIM names (so [email protected] would work). However these try to confirm the password you have registered with those sources and certainly Apple Passwords can be longer than 16 characters which are then not allowed on the AIM Servers.
Registering a email address on the AIM registration page means you can set a password there and it should tell you if it were too long.
There is also the issue of special characters.
I have not tired to register an email ID but I do know that the regular method forbids certain characters.
I can foresee that AIM may check the email ID is valid but not check any character issues.
AS a test delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and restart iChat.
This file in found in Hard drive/Users/(your account name)/Library/Preferences
This will force iChat to re-establish the Connection for login.
If that does not work go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts section and the Server settings tab and change the port to 443
(SSL must be On for Snow Leopard and then press Enter to "Set" the change)
Also try it with SSL Off as the AIM SSL server falls over more often than the regular server.
It is late where I am and I may not reply again until my tomorrow.

I have several different email accts on iph4. I send an email from my hotmail ( default acct in settings ) but it says it has been sent by the OTHER hotmail accts. How is this fixed?

If you are replying to an email it will used the acct the original email was sent to. I know that it uses the default email acct for when you send an email from outside of the mail client. Are you trying to send a new email from within the mail client on your phone?
