Firefox won't start after download and update

I have win 7. I uninstalled Firefox and downloaded it again.
The icon appears but the program won't start. I am so used to Firefox and don't want to use IE.
I get a few messages:
XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: chrome://mozapps/content/extensions/update.xul
Line Number 14, Column 1:
<wizard <="" ^="" id="updateWizard" p=""></wizard>
I also get a message:
"There is no disk in the drive-insert a disk into drive/device/hard disk4/dr4
I uninstalled Firefox several times , still no luck
I hope you can help me resolve this problem.
Dkmc7

Well I use system restore to an earlier date in May.
Then I uninstalled all Mozilla files and then I reinstalled Mozilla 29.0.1 and
now my Firefox Mozilla is working fine with all info in my profile intact.
Thank you

  • Firefox won't start after installing an update from Apple - what to do?

I am not computer savvy. When I installed a recent update from Apple on my Mac. Firefox won't open. Safari wouldn't either, but an Apple tech led me through steps to fix it. He didn't know what to try for Firefox.

Then a  clear CMOS would be the next logical troubleshooting step.
Here is  a link to your motherboard specifications.
The information on clearing CMOS is at the bottom of the document.
This is usually the last step before giving up on a motherboard.
The problem you are facing is motherboard hardware firmware related.

  • ITunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?

iTunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?  And by the way, this is apparently a common problem and Apple has completely failed to warn in advance or offer a quick straightforward solution - used to be a good company, but it's becoming just another crappy screw-the-consumer corporation.

It would help to know versions here.  I'm guessing your update put an older version of something into a place where a newer version of something iTunes put in there existed.  Updating an earlier OSX version to 10.6.8 is still only updating to system software that was issued several years ago.  If you are running some slightly newer version of iTunes issued subsequent to 10.6.8 and you just updated to 10.6.8 you may have put in an older version of something iTunes uses.  Anyway, I'm guessing here until we know exactly what you did.

I do not see much about coloum 14, but I am guessing this file is stored somewhere and its corrupt. Update.xul suggests that it is the update file. Do you still have this in your downloads folder? There are two places for update and for a clean reinstall:
[http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/] in a private window will give you a new install or you can choose from here: [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/]
This is what the file should look like; [http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/log/7a2edc5171e6/toolkit/mozapps/extensions/content/update.xul] If you can copy and paste that file from a working browser we can see the issue, but it will just look the same as the error.
if you can replace the contents of the file locally with what it should look like it will fix the error, but who knows if there are other errors. May be best to delete the updater and save all the profile folder contents.

  • IMac don't want to start after download and installing software update.

I did a firmaware update last night and let it do it's thing(download and install) after 30 mins, my imac is still blank. I tried to start it by pressing the power button but nothing happened. I don't hear the chime sound, only thing i can hear is the CD drive being initialize and the fan being turned on. This goes on a loop and do nothing. I tried to put the restoration CD that came into the package but that did not help at all instead the CD got stock on the drive. Anybody experience this problem before, please advice.
    Thanks

When you put the restore disk in, how did you restart?  Did you power up while holding the "c" key?  That should bring the iMac up on the restore disk.
If the iMac is not shutting down, are you pressing the power button or holding the power button in until the unit shuts down?  Just pressing the button won't shut it down...you have to hold it in.

  • Firefox won't start after update?

Apparently my system crashed during a win7 64 update overnight. I restored to a previous restore setting and was able to get windows back and going again. Then, when I clicked my firefox shortcut to open the browser and restore my previous session it said that the browser was updating and would start shortly. It never did. Several minutes later when I tried to click the usual shortcut I now get the message "The item 'firefox.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or removed..."
How can I go about resolving this without losing my history, bookmarks, and the ability to restore my last session? I had many tabs open that were important and would like to get back to that session so that I can bookmark them.

Using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because only white-listed files are restored, so always be cautious with using System Restore.

  • Firefox won't start after updating

Firefox recently completed an auto-update, however now the software won't load.
If I click on the Firefox icon, I get the Windows egg timer for about 10 seconds, then the pointer reverts to normal and nothing happens. If I open Task Manager at the same time, when I click on the Firefox icon, I see the application listed for approximately 5 seconds, then it's removed from the list.
I have tried running in compatibility mode, as well as removing and re-installing, neither of which have helped.
    Can you advise, please ?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • I still cannot get firefox to boot up after downloading the update. Get message that I must restart the computer. Unable to delete the program so I can download the program again. Same message comes up.

firefox message comes up every time I try to get on the interner with firefox. I received an email about two weeks ago from Mozilla advising me to download the updated firefox program. I have not been able to get to firefox since. I have tried to delete mozilla from my computer and get the message that I must reboot the system. I get the same message when I try to get on the internet with firefox. STATEMENT IS "Your computer must be restarted to complete previous upgrade of Firefox."

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click firefox.exe: Run as Administrator).
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

  • FireFox won't start after upgrading

This morning I upgraded to FireFox 5.0, when it was done installing the upgrade the last window had the option to start FireFox on completion, I left this option checked but after clicking the "Finish" button nothing happened so I clicked the new FF icon on my desktop. Still nothing. I opened Task Manager and nothing was listed on the "Applications" tab but when I clicked on the "Processes" tab there were several instances of FF running so I selected each one and clicked the "End Process" button which worked to exit all but one of them. No matter what I tried it would not terminate that one instance of FF so I shut down the computer. After firing up the computer I tried re-running the FF install app but it kept telling me that I had to exit FF before it could run, I looked in Windows Task Manager again and there was FF listed under "Processes". I restarted the computer to get rid of the running FF and then downloaded the FF file again, but am getting the same results. It just won't start (and it won't even give an error message)! I surfed the Web and found info stating that you could SHIFT click the FF icon to open it in Safe Mode, but that didn't happen either. Any ideas????

it does not work even in windows safe mode with networking. same issue. if i wait for some time firefox comes but in not responding mode. then a pop shows up with - script: chrome//browser/content/tabbrowser.xml 2123 .
