Firefox won't start. Everytime I end the process/close the last window, it keeps getting stuck at about 2500k memory in the task manager. (continued)

Firefox won't start. Everytime I end the process/close the last window, it keeps getting stuck at about 2500k memory in the task manager. The only way I have to fix it is to change some kind of compability settings or try and access it in a new way, and every time it crashes/closed/computer blue screens that setting will no longer work.
That is a short term solution, but eventually I'll run out of ways to access firefox successfully. I've tried many solutions, and some worked, but only once. I have yet to find a permanent solution for this problem.

First please update your plugins to make sure you are up to date. Shockwave Flash player has a newer version 16. In order to better manage the memory that Firefox uses please see these troubleshooting steps: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram Firefox Uses too much RAM]
You also mentioned that Firefox crashes, we're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
#Enter ''about:crashes'' in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
#Copy the '''5''' most recent Report IDs that start with '''bp-''' and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.
''' Note:''' If a recent Report ID does not start with '''bp-''' click on it and select '''Submit'''.
(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

    Whenever you try to save a PDF file to a location other than the default location ('My Documents'), Firefox freezes & you have to go to the 'Task Manager' to exit Firefox and stop the error. I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition) and all updates (Firefox, Adobe PDF, Microsoft, virus protection, etc) are installed. This has only been a problem since Firefox 4, and isn't a problem in Internet Explorer.

    Hi David,
    Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
    Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

  • Firefox hangs after a few hours. The task manager shows it using 50% of the time, and I don't see where it's doing anything. What is going on?

    It will not respond to any mouse clicks or key presses. I use the task manager to shut it down. When I restart, I select the option to restart Firefox with the same tabs and it does that and runs fine for a few hours and then it hangs again.

  • Firefox won't start as soon as the User Home is on XSan

    Hi,
    We are migrating our User Home Directories to XSan.
    As soon as we copy the User Home Directory from the old Servervolume to XSan, Firefox 2.0 won't start, showing an alert, that it's already running.
    Deleting the Firefox preferences in ~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Application Support doesn't help either. Firefox then asks me to create a new profile. When this is done and a want to start with the new profile, FF tells me, that the Profile is already used.
    Same thing with Camino and Firefox 1.5
    Is anyone else having this issue?
    Greetings from Bavaria,
    ubwm

    @Robert:
    Be assured we thought about all that. (And Apple Germany and some consultants did as well.)
    We are now rolling out using a XSan environment and user homes without mobile accounts. Mobile accounts is no solution if you need to have 300 users using 200 machines and switching machines like crazy We would have all the machines cluttered by synced Home folders in no time. We know of the drawbacks but it's the only solution that fits our needs.
    Our users are discouraged from keeping large amounts of own data on their Home, which is mostly for the Library and some personal files. We keep all our production data on specialized (and non-Apple) file servers, so searching is not as tremendous an issue. (We disabled spotlight and use EasyFind).

    I have Windows XP and Verizon Internet Security Suite. I've installed Firefox twice (with an uninstall in between) and it still won't load when I double-click on the icon. It runs fine on my other laptop with same OS and same anti-virus/firewall. Info on help page doesn't actually address this problem, even though the headline indicates it does.

  • When I try to open Firefox, it says it is running in the Task manager, but will not open until the memory has reached about 100,000k. Also, it keeps NOT responding all the time, and freezes up.

    I have done everything on the support page. I am running Windows Vista, and I am running Firefox 4.01. I have even tried running in safe mode. I have updated my plugins, and then disabled plugins and extensions.

  • Firefox won't start on boot

    I have a sporadic, but consistent problem with Firefox. Shortly after booting the computer, I try to launch Firefox, but it doesn't start. I open the task manager and can see firefox.exe running under the Processes tab. I will be patient, having waited for other things that might be monopolizing the memory (such as a startup AV scan) to finish. A couple of times, I waited as long as ten minutes, but the Firefox window never opened. My only solution is to reboot the computer. At that point I get several error messages:
    "DDE Window Server not responding / End Program?"
    and
    "Acrodist.exe not responding / End Program?"
    and then "Firefox is not responding / End Program?"
    I did research on DDE Server Window and found that I could disable it in Windows Services - which I did. Yet, the error message still appears.
    Running Windows XP with SP3.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hello gabryant, sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/disinfection/5350 Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller]
    * [http://general-changelog-team.fr/en/downloads/viewdownload/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner AdwCleaner] (for more info, see this [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ alternate AdwCleaner download page])
    * [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
    Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.
    also, delete in your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox#Windows profile folder] the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file User.js] file you already have(except if you created).
    The user.js file does not exist by default. If you create the file, forget it, if you have not create the file then delete the User.js file, to see if the problem goes away (some programs create and write in the file also).
    thank you

  • When i double-click the mozilla icon, it doesn't start. In the task manager i noted that the process "firefox.exe" appears and desappear after 5 seconds. The problem remains in mozilla safe-mode, but not in windows safe-mode. Thks!

    Yesterday i installed the firefox 6.0 on my windows 7 computer. When i double-click the mozilla icon, it doesn't start. I opened the task manager and noted that the process "firefox.exe" appears and desappear after 5 seconds. I tried to start mozilla in safe mode but the problem remains. The only way to use mozilla in my computer is restarting the windows in safe-mode. Last thing: i already tried to reinstall the program. Please help me!

    I'm also using Windows 7 on a Lenovo U310 laptop.

  • As soon as Firefox opens, it starts increasing memory usage until it maxes out, and it won't actually close unless I end the process in the task manager.

    Even if I'm not doing anything, no matter how few tabs I have open, Firefox will slowly increase in memory (RAM) usage until it's using nearly 100% of my computer's RAM, and everything basically freezes. Even when I close the window, the process continues to run, and I have to end the process in the task manager in order to get it to stop using RAM. I've tried disabling all my add-ons, and that does not help.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Firefox won't start, dialog says "firefox is already running" when it is not! There are no apps shown in the Task mangler, what gives?

    This occurs on two different machines, one XP and one Win 7. I seems to occur when I close Firefox with a search or load in progress. There are no applications shown in the task manager, so there must be a process still finishing up. What would the process name be? I can wait several minutes usually and the problem goes away and Firefox will restart, but if I knew the process name I could kill it and restart Firefox.

    It used 2 happen 2 me a lot, as well, on the old PC. The new one handles it pretty much instantaneously; & also, it won't be under the Applications tab in teh mangler (hehe), but under the Processes 1 probably as firefox.exe

  • Firefox won't start when double-clicked or when clicked on from the Start menu - but other programs say it IS running.

    When I go to the START Menu to start up Firefox - *or* double-click the Firefox icon on the desktop - the program will *not* start. Yet if I try to do something that may interfere with Firefox, it says to close Firefox down because it's running.... which it isn't. Even going into the Task Manager through *control-alt-delete* shows plainly that Firefox is not running... I downloaded a game through Mediabox.com to watch a movie, that may have started the problem.

    No - I get the message basically saying "Can't run program while Firefox is running. Please close down Firefox & try again".
    I rebooted my computer and it all works now - but that's weird it was happening before. Kinda weirded out that it happened at all.
    To avoid that happening again, I still wanna know what to do to avoid it or fix it for next time. Thanks
