Firefox won't update.  Won't connect to server.

I get a message that Firefox has critical updates to in stall but when I click on update it won't connect to server.

Greetings,
You may with to post this FireFox question in the FireFox forum: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/home
Me personally, I would just download and install the new version of FireFox, overwriting the old version: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/
Cheers!

  • TS1363 What can I do for an Ipod that won't update, won't allow you to eject it, and can't reset either?

What can I do for an Ipod that won't update, won't allow you to eject it, and can't reset either? I can simply unplug it from my pc and after a while it runs down and works fine after a charge. Wanting to clear data and sell but nothing seems to work. The ipod was originally set up on a different computer and with a different I tunes account as well. Would that make any difference?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:

Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

  • HT5957 iPad won't update says not connected to Internet

My iPad won't update. It says I am not connected to the Internet even though I am connected!

    Good to know. Thanks.
I restarted my iPad right after posting to this thread and it seems to be working. Just about done with the install now. Should be fine I think.

  • Firefox recommends I update for security reasons, when I click to download the update, it says "connecting to server" indefinitely.

Firefox recommends that I update for security purposes. I click to begin downloading the update and then a "downloading update" window opens. It says "connecting to server" indefinitely and nothing ever happens. I would love to perform any updates recommended but it would be nice if they actually did something.

  • Group Policys won't update. Possibly tied to server updating

Hello, we aren't sure if this is a SLES Issue, or a ZCM Issue.
    We are using ZCM 11.2.4
    And Server SLES 11.2
This server was originally a physical server running SLES 10 SP3 and ZCM 11. It was virtualized and then upgraded to its current state. This was done over the summer.
We cannot upgrade to 11.3 because we have no time for downtime. We are a school. This server needs to be up. Originally This server was
This issue started with an inability to update group policys on the server. When uploading the policy back to the server, we get this error.
    Code:
An error occurred while uploading the group policy settings to the server.
We investigate this by looking at the policy's status, which returns this error.
    Code:
The policy status is currently not available because the post upgrade process is in progress. The post upgrade process might take some time to complete.
We then go to Config-System Update and attempt to refresh the list of updates, to see if there is something we are missing. We get this Error.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Should we be asking the SUSELinux Forums, or is this a ZCM issue?

Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Should we be asking the SUSELinux Forums, or is this a ZCM issue?
    Have you tried: http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7013241 & http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7007955 ?

  • Update will not connect to server, continuous lagging and questionable security?

I actually have a few questions. I recently switched to Firefox from IE9 for a few reasons. My IT Security professor mentioned Firefox was safer than most and an online article suggested it was faster than IE9. So I decided to give it a chance; the previous version was too slow and wouldn't play any video so I downloaded version 4. It worked great for about 3-4 weeks and now I'm having the following problems:
    1. Every time Firefox says it has to update, the window pops up to connect to server. All it does is continuously try to connect (nothing happens). Now, one time I left it open all day to see if it would and that night a window popped up and said to restart Firefox to complete. I did what it said and it just started trying to connect to the server again.
    2. When I first downloaded Firefox 4 it was fast and almost never lagged. Now, it seems as if every page I try to connect to lags. In fact, sometimes I have to close it down and restart. It's actually normal pages I open everyday like school, mail, weather and typical Yahoo pages. Nothing has changed on my end, so I'm unaware of why this is happening now.
    3. I'm really concerned with the security issues. I still have IE9; recently, because of lagging and security issues, I've tried switching between the two to check cleaning details. I'll run my cleaner after a day of IE9 and do the same for Firefox (same typical searches). With IE9, there's not much to clean, maybe 17-18 mb's at most (cookies, typical stuff) and never had a virus. The CPU monitor also stays calm. On Firefox, I get 160-210 mb's every time. The CPU gauge fluctuates constantly and I've had three viruses.
I'm not sure if it's because the updates will not take or what, but I've had to switch back to IE9 because of these problems. I really enjoyed Firefox (when it worked); the interface was easy to navigate and use and in the beginning was very fast. I miss it! But because of these issues, I have to take a break until they are fixed. I can't afford to have my computer crash. Please help!

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Latest update will not connect to server

For several weeks I keep getting prompted to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox, but when I select to download, it app just sits there and spins it's wheel forever. This has happened at least a dozen times of the past weeks. I have not had this problem before. I have let it try to connect for over 10 minutes. All my connections are fine.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.

  • 6.02 updater hangs at "connecting to server"

Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 6.X, and I get prompted for an upgrade, the updater window hangs endlessly at "connecting to server". This has been occuring with 6.01 and now 6.02. Since I like to keep Firefox updated, I mainually went and downloaded the 6.01 package and installed it. Seems whatever this is, is still occuring on 6.02. I'm on Ubuntu 10.04.

It looks that the update wasn't successful because your "More system details" list still shows a Firefox 3.5.19 version.
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Update fails to connect to server after hours of spinning

when I open the fire Fox browser I get a message that I should apply update to FireFox right away. When I click the box it goes out looking for the server ..... forever. Never comes back with any message.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • Software Update can't connect to server -- error

I have Tiger 10.4.7 on a 600mH white G3 dual USB iBook. When I try to use the SoftwareUpdate function off the Apple Menu to check for any updates to Tiger, the "checking for new software" window starts up all right but immediately the error message window appears with "Software Update can't connect to the update server."
I'm otherwise connected to the internet all right and everything is working. I tried trashing the com.apple.softwareupdate.plist file from the Library/Preferences and the user/Library/Preference/ and restarting, but this didn't do it either.
I've had this problem before and it has "become" fixed, but I don't know exactly what sequence does it. Any help, please?
    PM9600/233 (OS 8.6); G3 white iBook (10.4.7)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

No, I didn't try creating a new user, in part because once before doing that only made things more complicated and didn't solve any problems.
Software Update simply started working again. No idea why.
However, even after several days, Safari is still reporting that it cannot connect to the server for any URL put in. I've restarted Safari, reset Safari, manually emptied all caches, removed cookies. All very odd!
    Firefox is working just fine.

  • Repeatedly (daily)when trying to install update is not connecting to server

every time i restart my computer and connect to firefox, it "strongly recommends " that I install the latest update which I click ok to. When it tries to do it, it keeps running in the background with a screen and across the top it says connecting to server but it never does. I am having no other computer problems so I have no idea why this is happening. It has permission and it would keep spinning a little blue circle for hours without ever saying it cannot connect but it obviously can't. how can i either stop this or actually update. It is very annoying. I have tried to update manually and I get the same result. Thanks, Clair47

    Greetings maremma7171,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are trying to perform an update on your iMac and are prompted to enter your administrator password. When you enter your password; however, it is not accepted. In this case, you may want to consider changing your password for that user account. To complete this process, please refer to the attached article.

  • Safari & Software update unable to connect to server, Mail acting funny to

I posted this on the Safari discussion pages with no replies to date. I'm hoping maybe someone here has some ideas.
As of yesterday morning I can't get to a large number of sites using Safari, but am able to get to them using Firefox (I'm posting this using Firefox). I get the message "can't connect to server."
Apple Mail connects and retrieves my email, but doesn't display web-based graphics. Software update says it can't connect.
    Specifically: can't get to google.com, livepage.apple.com, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page, to name just a few.
I can get to online.wellsfargo.com/cgi-bin/signon.cgi. Also, I can get to this page webmail.earthlink.net/wam/login.jsp?x=-721966586, but when I sign in I get the "Safari can't connect to server" message.
I haven't made any system changes recently. I'm at a loss to figure out what the problem is.

    You're Welcome Again caecot!
Are you using an Administrator account?
No guarantees, but try this procedure.
-Again delete the items that I listed in My Previous Reply.
    -Run Repair Permissions.
-Reinstall the PPC 10.4.10 Combo Update.
    -Again run Repair Permissions.
-Reset the Safari Preferences, as instructed HERE.

  • Firefox was working fine earlier today and now when I try opening it, I get this message: Firefox does not know how to connect to server" and no pages will load. Internet Explorer works fine.

I have changed nothing on my computer, and it was opening and functioning fine this morning. However, everytime I try to open it, I get a message box saying "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features." And when the page actually opens, it says "Unexpected response from server
Firefox doesn't know how to communicate with the server.
Check to make sure your system has the Personal Security Manager
    installed.
This might be due to a non-standard configuration on the server."
Nothing will load and I don't know what's wrong!

    Did Firefox update to 4.0.1?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Software updater fails to connect to server. How can I fix?

Software updater fails tp connect with the server. I have tried a restart and checked network connections and internet access. I have no problems connecting to internet, App Store and iTunes Store. Help!

If you know what downloads to look for you get them from support.apple.com.  For example the 10.6.8 combo update v1.1 can be found here.
The probelm is knowing what to look for and that's why softwere update comes in handy even if you don't want to have it do the downloads.  What's probably going on was that the servers looked by software update were either temporarily down, or as mentioned above, overloaded.  Wait a while and try it again.

  • A playlist that I update on my ipod won't update when I connect my ipod to itunes

I have been using my Ipod Touch 3rd generation to create playlists. The playlists show up fine and play on the ipod, but when I connect the ipod to itunes, and click on the playlist, it does not reflect the changes made on the ipod. I have the ipod set to manually manage, so when I disconnect the ipod the songs are still on the ipod, but why won't they show up on itunes?
I also deleted some tv shows off of the ipod by way of itunes, but when i disconnected the ipod, they were still listed on the ipod, although they would not play. So somehow, my itunes and ipod are not communicating with eachother. Any ideas/fixes?

    Hey BingHuo,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPod will sync but not charge while connected. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
