Firefox won't update

Firefox seems to be stuck and won't update. Under the Help menu, it lists "resume downloading Firefox 3.6.3" but when I click on that option, it never resumes the download. (I don't recall pausing downloading in the first place?) Firefox never connects with the update server. As a result of not updating, Firefox is crashing and won't work properly. I restarted and had to force Firefox closed at least 4 times today.

Java Console and Microsoft.net Framework Assistant add-ons are not much needed.

  • I have firefox16.0 and would like to update to the most recent version (19). But my Firefox won't update

    Hi there
I've got windows vista on my computer, and am using Firefox 16.0. Have been for a while now, ever since it was installed a year ago or so.
The thing is, Firefox won't update to the latest version (currently version 19 I believe), neither automatically or manually. I've tried everything, including using the "help" function. The window only says it's Firefox 16.0, but when I click on "update", the page just refresh and that's it, nothing else happens. I've checked all other settings, and it looks like all the right boxes are ticked, including "update Firefox automatically".
Coming to think about it, on my wife's computer, we are always told about new updates for Firefox. On this one, no update alert of any sorts since it was installed a while ago (and again, all the right boxes being ticked)
Please can anybody help? Should i reinstall Firefox altogether?
    Thanks for your help
    Frankie

  • Firefox won't update the Flash Player plug-in. What do I do?

Firefox won't update Shockwave Flash 11.7.700.224 (last updated June 17, 2013). What should I do?

You may want to uninstall Flash first otherwise you risk of still having the old 11.7 and new version.

  • Firefox won't update on my system, even with firewall & antivirus switched off - help ?

    OS : Windows 7 - 64bit, with antivirus (Bitdefender).
Downloaded update from you website (version 25.01), switched off Windows firewall, bitdefender firewall & antivirus. Run 25.01.exe - it partly updates (3/4 green bar), then bombs out.
Firefox version currently running on my system is 22.
If I try to update from your pull-down meny "Help" then "about Firefox", after downloading the update, get message that I need to restart Firefox to finalise update, but the process also gets blocked.
Opening Firefox, I'm still on version 22
Hope you can point out how I can overcome this ?
Thank you for your support - love your product !!

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • Firefox won't update to it's latest version for me?

Hello, I've had firefox for awhile now and I was used to the updates, but for some reason Firefox has ceased updating for me and I am stuck on version 19, I have attempted uninstalling and reinstalling which is what was suggested when I looked through for an answer.
When I do uninstall and reinstall even though it tells me its updating to the 22nd version it reverts directly back to 19.
I know it is not updating because one of the websites I visit tells me if my browser is not updated to its latest version and prevents me for getting certain tasks done, when I contacted an administrator they told me Firefox was still on its 19th version on my computer.
I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, any ideas?

  • Firefox won't update from 3.0.8 to 3.5 and I have installed 3.5 3 times now. How can I get it to install?

I had at one time installed 4.0 but found that the addons I use won't work, so I tried to go back to a older version. I first went back to 3.0.8 so I could find the proper version I wanted and then I noticed I could go up to 3.5. I downloaded 3.5 and installed it 3 times now and firefox still says it's running 3.0.8.
How do I get it to update?

  • Firefox won't update because I have Mac OSX 10.4.11

I keep getting prompts saying that a website is unsecure and not protected. I also get prompts telling me to update, but when I follow them I'm told my operating system is too old and that I should go to Mozilla's website to get the latest version which works with OSX 10.4.11, but I can't find said version, but I do find plenty of references to a particular version being on the brink of no longer being supported.

  • Firefox won't update - tho I have OSX 10.5.8 it keeps saying I have too old an OS. The auto-update for Firefox is greyed out. How can I update?

I have a Mac Powerbook G4, running OS X 10.5.8. I'm getting messages from Google that Firefox is an old version and needs updating - so I went to the Firefox website and the message said that "Unfortunately the latest version of Firefox isn't compatible with your computer's operating system. Learn more." When I click Learn More, it says that Firefox only works with OS X 10.5 and 10.6...The auto-update box for Firefox is greyed out and un-clickable in Firefox preferences, there's no manual download that I can find - how can I make Firefox recognize my OS and allow me to upgrade? Many thanks.

  • Firefox won't update beyond 18.0.1

I have had this for months and I thought I would try and get to the bottom of it. It has never performed the update beyond this version. When I try and do so Firefox just does not start when clicking on the icon - in a normal boot or in safe mode.
The only way I can get Firefox to work again is by going into this folder and deleting everything within it.
    \AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates\0
It then works any until the next update point when I have to delete everything in that folder again.

  • Firefox won't update. Keeps asking me to reboot.

I updated to firefox 5 and since then when I click on the icon it tells me I need to reboot my computer. I have rebooted several times and I still keep getting the message that I need to reboot my computer to finish updating firefox.

  • Firefox won't open following update. Can't open Profile Mgr, even when using entire directory path in cmd line

I'm running Firefox on a Windows 7 machine. Firefox won't open following the latest update. I've read the help articles and it seems like I need to create a new profile because my settings have likely been corrupted. I'm unable to open Profile Mgr, even when using entire directory path in cmd line. I've tried the following commands in the command line:
    firefox -p
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p
    Nothing happens with either command.
I'm also running Norton Internet Security. I read a help article Re Virtual Browsing features possibly causing a problem. The article said to check the virtualization setting in the internet security software and to clear the virtual cache. I went thru all of the settings menus in Norton Internet Security version 21.6.0.32 and I didn't see anything that looked like 'virtualization" settings, so I assumed that this doesn't apply to me.

hello arcandl, when firefox isn't launching after you double-click on the shortcut this is sometimes also a sign of malware being active on a system.
