Firefox wont start on my win xp computer

I am running windows xp professional. I have had firefox for years. When I uploaded the latest upgrade, the program quit working. I have installed different versions, all with thesame result. The program refuses to stat when I click the icon on the latest version.

Most commonly, Firefox not starting after upgrading is related to your firewall/security software. You may need to delete Firefox from your allowed programs list in your firewall, allow the firewall to re-detect the new version of Firefox, and give it the permissions needed to connect to the internet.
• Firefox wont start "XPCOM" message pops up, need my user and passwords!!??

My window 7 wasn't starting up properly so I did a system restore and now firefox wont start a message pops up stating "XPCOM" and I googled it and everything is telling to reinstall Firefox. I don't wont to reinstall it just yet because I need my passwords and username back. I cant find a solution on the forums either, or if there is I haven't found it or I simply didn't understood the solution itself. Please get back to me asap
thank you!

This usually happens because of a failed Firefox update that left you with a mixture of old and updated files in the Firefox program folder.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

• Mozilla firefox wont start because of read confirgaration

I have reinstalled mozilla firefox and I still have the same problem. It say wont read confiration

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Can you start Firefox in Safe mode ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

• Firefox wont start (no message). Firefox wont uninstall (no message)

Firefox will not start. The hour-glass appears momentarily, then disappears followed by boom sound effect. There is no error message. Task manager never sees Firefox loaded.
Then when I try to uninstall Firefox, when I click Remove, again hour-glass appears momentarily, then silently disappears. I am running Windows XP.

A boom sound effect? Are you sure you're trying to run Firefox? I've never heard of that happening. But let's try a few methods. Each will be separated by a horizontal line.
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

try. Tried safemode, tried run as administer (comes up with do you wont the following program to make a change....) tried deinstalling and reinstalling, created a new profile. using avast and malware bytes
and have scanned with both. Loaded the software down from Major Geeks site. removed any software

Since you have tried many ways, why don't you try the latest version of firefox? It's currently firefox v28 on release channel.

• Firefox wont start, all soloutions given on website do not work

I am using Windows XP and the most recent version of Firefox. I was browsing last night and had multiple pages open (the websites were bbc.co.uk, eurogamer.co.uk, ign.co.uk). I clicked on a link for an article and the page started behaving strangely, like it was being re-directed so I closed it immediately. All of my open pages then disappeared completely. I received no error messages or acknowledgement of what had happened so I decided to simply re-load. Now, when I click on the Firefox icon I get nothing, no browser, no error messages. When I check my task manager there are no open Firefox processes. I have tried un-installing and re-installing but even that does not work. I can still open internet explorer so I know my internet connection is working ok. I have tried everything suggested on the official Firefox website but still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas, any help would be greatly appreciate.

I have the exact same problem. Firefox has been my default browser forever. Was trying to load Sorority life, an app on Facebook. Although FaceBook loaded, SL wouldn't. After doing all the cache clean up ect that was reccommended, and still not able to load the game, I ended up removing and reloading FireFox Once I re-loaded, nothing. I don't care how many times I try to load it, I get absolutely nothing.

• Firefox wont start or load but when I press ctl, alt, delete I see it running?

I upgraded Firefox. I worked for one night, the next night When I tried to open it it didnt work. I press ctl alt delete and noticed that it was running in the background but no window... IE and Chrome works fine... I do have internet.
I ran virus scans with no problems what so ever. Ran malwarebites and no issues. I have the windows firefall and disabaled it to see if maybe thats the problem, I also checked to see if Firefox had permission to pass the firewall and those were no issues.
Any Ideas.. please help.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
