Firefox wont start - the choose use profile box is black.
Firefox won't start. I get a blank "Choose User Profile" window. This is on Windows 7. Tried uninstalling, deleting the old profiles (c:\users\<username>\AppData\Local\Mozilla) and reinstalling with the same result.
hello Flumpy, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode by pressing the shift key while the application is launching & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

When I click on a link in Thunderbird to open a web page, and Firefox is not already open, I want to have the user profile screen presented so that I can select which profile to use for the Firefox session. Instead, it opens the last used profile. Is there a way to do this?
That is is always a problem when you are using multiple profiles and Firefox isn't running.
It might work if no profile is selected (i.e. marked as Default=1 in profiles.ini).<br />
You can use desktop shortcut that open with a specific profile (-P "profile").<br />
There is also a setting in the Profile Manager (Don't ask at startup). -
I just installed Firefox and it is stuck on the "Choose a Profile" page and will not load...frozen. When I click on "Create a Profile", nothing happens. Anyone have any suggestions?
Try to delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new profiles.ini file and a new default profile.

My window 7 wasn't starting up properly so I did a system restore and now firefox wont start a message pops up stating "XPCOM" and I googled it and everything is telling to reinstall Firefox. I don't wont to reinstall it just yet because I need my passwords and username back. I cant find a solution on the forums either, or if there is I haven't found it or I simply didn't understood the solution itself. Please get back to me asap
thank you!This usually happens because of a failed Firefox update that left you with a mixture of old and updated files in the Firefox program folder.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

If you are installing Oracle Application Server in a DHCP network you must use a loopback configuration. To access the Oracle Application Server, you need to use a local browser. Perform the following steps to install Oracle Application Server in a DHCP network:
1.
Find the IP address allocated from the DHCP server by running the following command:
$ /sbin/ifconfig -a
The IP address is associated with the interface configured to use DHCP.
2.
Configure the host to resolve hostname to loopback IP address:
1.
Configure the host to resolve hostname to loopback IP address, by modifying the /etc/hosts file to contain the following entries:
127.0.0.1 hostname.domainname hostname
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
2.
Check that the hostname resolves to the loopback IP address by entering the following command:
$ /bin/ping hostname.domainname

Deleted profile and firefox wont start (although it says it's running)
I was having a problem with firefox on my mac running osx 10.7.5 and the solution I read said my profile may be corrupt so I deleted it. Then I deleted firefox and reinstalled it. Now it says I am missing my profile and it won't start at all. I am writing this using another application as I can't get Firefox to run.
Thanks!Hi shinyperson, <br>
maybe you should try starting the Profile Manager.

Complete text of error message when attempting to start Firefox.
The procedure entry point PL_Clear ArenaPod could not be located in the dynamic link library plds4.dll
Firefox never opens before or after the error message.
After I close the error message window, I also get message from ZoneAlarm (my security software) asking me to send them an error report.
I had just accepted an automatic update from Firefox prior to the problems occurring.Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall -
To make it more clear. If I use the following command
firefox -P profileRare
and then close the firefox, When I open the firefox again with by giving
firefox
It opens the profileRare again. Is there anyway to override this behaviour and open default profile when I call firefox without -P option?Make sure that the profile that you want to use as the default is set as Default=1 in the file profiles.ini
If you use -P "profile_name" then the selected profile shouldn't change. Only if you use the profile manager and select a new profile then that profile will become the last selected profile, so make sure that "Don't ask at startup" is selected. -
Applescript to open the Choose Folder dialog box and close the message after moving it
I've been trying to figure out how to get the same functionality as the Windows version of Outlook has so that the open message gets closed when it's moved to another folder.
It seems pretty simple to move a message to a pre-defined folder, but I can't find a way to open the Choose Folder dialog so I could choose the destination folder. I've looked through the dictionary, but couldn't find any direct way to activate the Choose Folder dialog. So I decided to use keystrokes for the job. Here's what I came up with:
on run {}
tell application "Microsoft Outlook"
try
set theMessage to first item of (get current messages)
set folderID to the folder of theMessage
on error errMsg number errNum
set dialogReply to display dialog "Please select one or more messages to file away before running this script." buttons {"Abort"} default button 1
return
end try
-- open the Choose Folder dialog
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "m" using {command down, shift down}
repeat
delay 2
set currentID to the folder of theMessage
if currentID is not folderID then exit repeat
end repeat
-- Close the active message
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "w" using command down
end tell
end run
This is my first attempt to do anything with AppleScript..
Now in addition to using keystrokes instead of Outlook built-in commands to open the Choose Folder dialog and to close the message, I also have another problem. Everytime I run the script from AppleScript Editor, everything runs fine, the message gets moved to the folder I choose and the message also gets closed. When I move the script to "~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/Outlook Script Menu Items" and start it from inside Outlook, Outlook gets stuck after opening the Choose Folder dialog and I have to force quit Outlook. I added some debuggin to the script and found out that the script keeps running, but I'm unable to select the folder from Outlook and cannot continue.
Anybody have an idea why this is happening?
Regard,
Kris(For the record)
Unchecking "Submit crash reports" in the Firefox Options window - Advanced panel General tab simply toggles the default of the "Tell Mozilla about this crash so they can fix it" check box in the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog (upon crash). It does not turn off the Crash Reporter itself.

Mozilla firefox wont start because of read confirgaration
I have reinstalled mozilla firefox and I still have the same problem.It say wont read confiration
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you! -
ITunes wont start the second time
Hi, I posted this problem before but probably because my subject title was a little wide nobody looked at it..
This is my problem, I download iTunes install it everything works fine but after I close itunes or my computer when I want to start iTunes again it wont start???I have the exact same problem. I use Windows Vista SP1.
iTunes.exe does show up in the task manager, but there is no way I can access it, because it doesn't show up.
I had this problem since I installed the update to iTunes 8. I tried several times to completely uninstall it an reinstall it. Everytime it worked the first time, but failed the second time. Then I uninstalled agan and reinstalled iTunes 7. Same thing, worked first time, failed since then.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem is ? There is no error message.
Thanks in advance! -

Firefox wont start on my win xp computer
I am running windows xp professional. I have had firefox for years. When I uploaded the latest upgrade, the program quit working. I have installed different versions, all with thesame result. The program refuses to stat when I click the icon on the latest version.
Most commonly, Firefox not starting after upgrading is related to your firewall/security software. You may need to delete Firefox from your allowed programs list in your firewall, allow the firewall to re-detect the new version of Firefox, and give it the permissions needed to connect to the internet.<br />
