Firefox - Working offline mode

Can anyone explaine to me why Firefox occassionally switches to the working offline
mode while being connected to the internet (usually via Airport)?
Also, how do I stop this from happening?
Thanks.

I notice this happen if my computer has lost connection with a wireless server at the moment I am making a request for a web page even if it automatically restores the connection.
As for stopping it, that's a question more readily answered on forum on Firefox's web site since it's not Apple software.

  • Can I stop Firefox from always opening in Work Offline mode because it's preventing my Macbook from accessing Internet on our wireless home network?

Sorry, I should have said iMac, not Macbook, if it makes a difference. The problem is Firefox 3.6.10 always starts in Work Offline mode, and Internet won't activate unless we restart, sometimes up to five times.
The iMac is on our home wireless network which we had no problems with before using Safari on the Macbook we upgraded from.
Note: I'm posting this query from another computer.

Did you check the network setting?
Sounds that you have set to connect automatically when a connection is not available.

  • After an upgrade Firefox now throws my Mac into Work Offline mode repeatedly. What action needs to be taken so Firefox permanently disables Work Offline mode?

Immediately after an upgrade Firefox beginning throwing my Mac into Work Offline mode. Apparently, this is done anytime my connection blips out. I have tried a work-around, but to no avail. The computer is thrown into Work Offline when I daily turn on the computer, as well as in-between website windows.

We've seen more post about being in Offline mode on a Mac. I haven't seen any explanation or solution to this problem.

    Hi there,
When I inspect your site in browser tools, I'm getting 404 errors from your page:

In general, you are correct - but also your server does need to be properly configured (and those errors above lead me to think it may not be) to serve the file types that your uploading - but it could be something else entirely. Can you zip up your composition folder, upload it to your Creative Cloud files, set it to share, and then post a link here so I can download it? If you'd rather not share it publicly, can you PM me with a link to your composition files?

  • Everytime I log in to my computer firefox comes up in "Work Offline" mode. Even tho I uncheck the box the next time I log off and in it's back in the "offline" mode. How can I stop this?

Work Offline is always checked when I log in to my laptop. I have to uncheck it to get to the internet. I don't usually want to work offline so this is very annoying

    You can try this:
Create a new Boolean pref with the name <b>network.manage-offline-status</b> and set the value to false.
Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: <b>network.manage-offline-status</b>
    Value: <b>false</b>

  • How do I start Desktop Firefox in Offline Mode (if possible)?

Currently using Firefox 21* with 64-bit Windows 7 Pro SP1:
If I enable File > Work Offline, then Firefox will not retain the setting for the next launch. So it will always access the Internet (and complain if it can't) every time that it launches. There is no reason to do that, since security vulnerabilities in Firefox are ordinarily exploited only while it is accessing the Internet.
Although I am hesitant to edit about:config I can do that if I need to, but I don't know which line(s) I would need to change.
It would be best if I can launch Firefox with a command-line parameter to start with Work Offline. If so, I could launch it with a Windows shortcut which has that parameter in the Command field. However, Firefox command-line documentation ( https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options ) seems a bit outdated, and discloses that it is incomplete.
If memory serves, there used to be a way to do this, but I cannot recall the method. :-(
Thank-you for your time and attention to this matter.
    * PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER TO TELL ME TO UPGRADE TO FIREFOX 22.!! As I have stated in other contexts, Firefox 22 requires me to spend far, far too much time and effort constantly "adjusting" the view and magnification of text and/or of images. IE 10 for Windows 7 has exactly the same problem and I returned to running MSIE 8. The Firefox workaround is a kludge that does not produce a satisfactory outcome. The assertion that we can continue using the Firefox 21 display by configuring that feature is either wrong, or the setting is broken. IT IS NOT A SOLUTION!! If the Mozilla developers refuse to allow us to *disable* this "improvement" and continue using the Firefox 21 display, then we will be looking for another browser that doesn't waste so much of our time just trying to get it to work right. THANK-YOU for respecting my point-of-view even if you cannot see it.

'''Update:''' I have found a command-line parameter which will do this:
    (1) Create a Windows shortcut for firefox.exe. Right-click on the desktop, select New, then select Shortcut and Browse to the location of ''firefox.exe''.
    (2) Save the shortcut to the desktop. Then right-click on it, and select Properties.
    (3) In the Target field, add -offline after the closing quotation mark and separate the parameter from the end of the string in quotes with a space.
    Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -offline
When Firefox is launched with this shortcut, it displays a dialog to announce that it is offline and cannot access the Internet, and wants you to "Try Again". It would be nice if we could stop Firefox from displaying that dialog but I suppose that it will suffice to just close it.
Now if I can make that the *default* way to launch Firefox, that would be great!

  • How do I prevent Firefox from switching me to the "working offline" mode in the midst of my online gaming?

I'll be on-line, playing a game or surfing the web and the next thing I know I don't have an internet connection. I click on "repair internet connection" and get the feedback, "unable to repair. I click on file and see that there is a check mark by 'work off-line' which I never checked. How can I prevent Firefox browser from automatically switching me over to the off-line mode whenever it feels like it. Very frustrating! Happens more than a few times a week but not every time Firefox is open.

  • Firefox stopped downloading from internet & so did Thunderbird. But MS Explorer still brings up the data. Firefox works offline. Reinstalling firefox made no difference. Help!

When I start Firefox, it fails to bring up the homepage (google.com) with the label "untitled" on the 1st tab. Clicking on any bookmarks leaves the page blank. Switching to "offline" will bring up old websites, but no "refresh". At the same time, Thunderbird stopped working with the message "Looking up pop.gmail.com" without contact.

  • Firefox opens in offline mode and doesn't save my settings

When I start the internet, it always starts in "work offline" mode. So I have to un-check the work offline button and refresh the pages. Also, my customized toolbar settings are not saved. I add the tab group button and it isn't on the toolbar when I open firefox.

Try to create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.
Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: network.manage-offline-status
    Value: false
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

  • Firefox goes into offline mode for no reason

Periodically, with no consistency I can detect, Firefox puts itself into offline mode. After clicking the "try again" button from one to several times, it finally recognizes that there is in fact an Internet, and deigns to connect with it. I have never manually put Firefox into offline mode.

You can try to create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.

  • How to disable FF & TB auto-switching to Work Offline?

    WinXP SP3,

See ''tmaca's'' post, 3rd one up from the bottom. He seems to think you can update it manually: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/822003#answer-184670

       Hi,
There is another option to set the work offline mode with out opening the project itself. I think in your case it is better to set this property prior to open the project, why because after changing in the solution still you find some errors related to work offline. So I think it is better to follow the steps in the given link to set work offline mode without opening the project.
