Firefox would't install updates since 3.6.4 - another copy running

Firefox wouldn't intstall updates "another copy running on computer". This makes opening Firefox after update almost impossible, because the error notice immediately pops up. Brand new installation works, but does no eliminate the problem. XP Professional SP 3.

Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)
    Do a clean reinstall:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Running 3.6.13 on MAC OS 10.6.7. Firefox wants to install updates but updater never connects. It's in eternal "connecting to server" mode. Now I get a message that says I don't have permission to make updates on this computer, I'm the only user. Ideas?

    Not sure what to do....

If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions or have other problems with updating to update then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • Firefox requests I install update as soon as possible butwhen I click to start it continuosly searches, never installs..

Firefox sends a message each time I start up. "It is strongly recommended you install this update as soon as possible".
I agree to do so and click 'start' but then I get a screen indicating the process is running which never goes away. It never installs and never stops trying to install. Screen says "Connecting to the update server"....

If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.<br />
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.

  • Can't install updates since AppStore ask me to connect with another user

Bought few months ago a used MBP 13" with Mountain Lion installed.
I create a new Apple ID and change the admin pwd so I think all was mine.
Now I find the last 10.8.4 update and tried to install it, with other app updates. But the system ask me to use another user to install these updates.
What I need to do? Where can I delink the old user? Need I to ask to the old owner?

The link below, that part under the name Kappy, explains what the previous owner should have done before he sold you the machine.
Take a look through and you will probably be able to work out what to do next.   It all depends on how close these rules have been followed.

  • Firefox says the automatic update is done, but I am still running the old version.

My Firefox is set up to automatically update. When it asks, I say yes, it says it is done, but the new version isn't running. I t has done this many times and I'm still on Version 3.6. How do I get the updates to really work?

You are using the latest version which is Firefox 9.0.1
From your description it sounds as if you still have the old http://www.google.com/firefox Firefox start pages hosted by Google as your homepage. This old default homepage is no longer used as about:home has been in use since Firefox 4.0
Either ignore the message, change homepage to '''about:home''', change it to another page or leave blank.

  • I can not re-install/ update apple iTunes on my HP PC running Win7-64.  I get a registry key error when installing and am asked to make sure I have access.  IT is a home PC with one user and I have admin priveledges.

When the updater notified me of an iTunes update, I selected the update option.  The update failed and killed the version I was running.  I have tried for a year to fix the problem without sucess.  I can't completely remove all Apple products.  I can not install any apple products especially iTunes which is the only one I am interested in.
When I install iTunes now I get a registry key error similar to this:
I am using a machine where I am the only user and am the Admin.   I have looked at the security settings on this key and see nothing wrond with it or the parent keys.  I tried removing all apple products but ran into similar problems.  At this time I still have Bonjour. Mobile Device Support, Software Update, and Application Support installed.

These ones are tricky. But the following instructions are worth a try.
First do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related components (but don't reinstall just yet), as per the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    a. Launch regedit (Start >> Search Programs and Files >> type Regedit and open the regedit that comes up.)
    b. Access the following Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components
    c. Perform the following actions
    i. Right Click on Components Folder
    ii. Select Permissions
iii. Select Full Control and Read Permissions options
    iv. Select Advanced Button
    v. Select Owner Tab
vi. Select to Change Owner to the Administrators
vii. Check the option “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”
viii. Select OK when prompted that it may not change all.
    ix. Select Apply
    x. Select Apply again
    xi. Exit the Registry Editor
Now try reinstalling iTunes again. Does it go in properly this time?

  • Firefox will not install on my computer. It was previously running. Then just stopped. I uninstalled and tried reintalling and it looks as though it is installing then does not complete.

Ran multiple anti-virus/malware to rule out. Everything is good. Registry error perhaps. Pleas Help. Maxthon browser sucks.

The Installation File is downloaded. UAC is disable. I am running AVG Interner Security 2011. I disable all security and When I open the instalation file, it says extracting, and the staus bar goes to 95%. I then get the circular waiting icon, then nothing. I can see 3 Firefox related files in the Processes of the Task Manager.
    Firefox Setup 1476K
    setup.exe 2840K Firefox Installer
    setup.exe 2864K Firefox Installer
This is not a result of trying to open the installer multiple times. Each time I end the processes before trying again.
    I sincerely appreciate the help.

  • When i try to open firefox, I get a message saying another copy is already running. I have tried shutting down comletely and computer still thinks there's another copy running. How can this be?

There are two separate desktops on this computer, one for me and one for another user. Her Firefox is not affected. I have looked everywhere for this second copy supposedly running but I don't see how it can be because I have shut down all programs several times.

There are a few possible causes for that error, for details see [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]].

  • License agreement number to install updates

firefox wants to install updates, telling me very important to do so, but when i click on install and next, i keep getting a question needing the license agreement number and telling me to go to firefox web site...

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.
