Firefox3.6.12 on Mac forgot master password chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul doesn't work

When I tried to reset my password, I copied
chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul
into the proper place, got the new page, clicked reset, nothing happened.
Using Mac 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.6.12
Help! Can't get into my facebook account.

If using the chrome url (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) doesn't work then delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/key3.db key3.db] and signons.sqlite and all signons#.txt files (if any exist, Firefox 3.0 has used signons3.txt) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile_Folder].

  • I tried resetting my Master Password using "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul", but when I click on "Change Master Password" it asks for my CURRENT password. I don't have a current password, because I don't remember it and am trying to reset it!

Using FF 4.01 for laptops & desktops, Windows XP 2002 SP3. I used "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul" to reset the Master Password. Then went to Tools/Options/Security, clicked on "Change Master Password". BUT it asks for my CURRENT password and new password. I don't know my current password. Is there a default Master Password that I need to input as the Current password?

If you still have a Master Password set then it looks that resetting the MP hasn't worked.
If using the chrome url (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) doesn't work then delete the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/key3.db key3.db] and signons.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox.
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.

  • Master password still required after using: chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul

I'm asked on a fairly regular basis for my master password, except I don't recall having set one up. I've completed the steps outlined in: chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul. Preferences show no tick mark for master password, but I am being asked for it just the same.

If using the chrome url (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) doesn't work then delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/key3.db key3.db] and signons.sqlite (Firefox 3.5) and all signons#.txt files (if any exist, Firefox 3.0 uses signons3.txt) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile_Folder].

  • Firefox crashes when I try to reset the master password using chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul

    # Question
Firefox 3.6.10 on Windows 7 crashes when I try to reset the master password using chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul. Is there an alternate way of resetting the master password?

You can delete the 2 files that contain password details, they will be re-created automatically. First open the profile folder, for details of how to find it see the [[profiles]] article. Now close Firefox and delete key3.db and signons.sqlite. If there are files called signons.txt, signons2.txt and signons3.txt you can delete those as well, they are from earlier versions of Firefox.

  • Thw www Address that Support told me to put in the Nav bar (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) takes me somewhere that doesnt have any of the options Support says it does. I need to reset my master password as I have forgotten it, HELP

The www Address that Support told me to put in the Nav. bar (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) takes me somewhere that doesn't have any of the options Support says it does. I need to reset my master password as I have forgotten it, HELP

If the usual method does not work, you can also do this manually.
    # Open your profile folder, for details of how to find it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
    # Close Firefox
    # In the profile folder delete key3.db, signons.sqlite, and if they exist signons.txt, signons2.txt and signons3.txt
That will delete all passwords and remove the master password.

  • NEED HELP FORGOT MASTER PASSWORD

I FORGOT MASTER PASSWORD BUT I HAVE THE STARTP DISC 10.4.6. .. I TRIED TO HIT THE APPLE C BUT ON RESTART BUT IT DIDNT RESPOND ,,, I ALSO HIT THE APPLE S ..BUT IM NOT FAST ENOUGH TO TYPE COMMANDS... CAN ANYONE HELP ME TO REBOOT USING MY DISC .. I CAN ONLY USE MY GUEST ACCOUNT AND NOT MY MASTER .. EVERYTHING IS BACKED UP .. BUT WHAT SHOULD I DO TO COMPLETELY RE-INSTALL ?

Insert the Mac OS X install disk. Then select Restart and hold down the "c" key. You don't have to be really fast, you have plenty of time. But keep the "c" key held down until you get the Apple screen and the "spinning gear" progress indicator. See this for complete instructions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh655.html
Make sure you're using the disk that came with your Mac, or a later retail copy.
    Regards.
BTW, a couple of "housekeeping" items:
    1) It is generally considered inappropriate to type all in uppercase letters in Internet discussions, as text that is typed all in uppercase is by convention considered to be shouting. Uppercase is also more difficult to read, so please use all uppercase sparingly and only when you really mean to shout, which we hope you won’t need to do here .
    2) This forum is for the minitower Mac Pro. If you have a MacBook Pro, the forums for that are here:

  • Forgot master password but do not want to reset and lose all my passwords

Last week, I added a master password to firefox and it seemed to be working fine. The next day, when I tried to enter my password, it kept saying that it was incorrect. I know I was entering the correct one. I rely on my stored passwords on a daily basis for work and cannot reset it, as I will lose years of important login information. How can I bypass, recover or remove the master password? I am desperate.

    No. There is not.
    You will have to restore.
Everything should be on your computer.
Is there some reason that everything is not on your comptuer?

sounds more like Bluetooth rather than moue, but w/o knowing w/o posting mac model type/year we... will... not... know... what you have
All computers are personal computers, a PC though is also "non-Apple" in common usage.
Mac also is platform and OS.
Very confused reading what you are trying to tell us.

Use your browser to open this page "chrome://browser/content/browser.xul"
Right click and click "View Page Source" you will find that this xul file should be in Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/omni.jar

  • FORGOT MASTER PASSWORD...  HELP!!

I forgot my master password and want to reset it, how can i do that?
I dont have firevault on and I know my account pass

Hi! Boot from the install disc and reset it there. Tom
    1. Put your Mac OS X Install CD or DVD in your optical drive and restart with the C key held down (to boot from the optical disc).
    2. Click through the language selection screen. Then choose Utilities > Reset Password.
    3. Select your usual startup disk. Then, from the pop-up menu below the volume list, choose the user whose password you want to reset. (Do not choose "System Administrator (root)," which represents an entirely different account!)
    4. Enter (and repeat) a new password, and optionally enter a hint. Click Save, and then click OK.
    5. Choose Reset Password > Quit, and then Installer > Quit Installer. Click the Reset button to restart from the hard disk.
Once you've done this, you'll still be prompted to enter a password for your login keychain. If that password was the same as your login password - meaning it too is forgotten - you'll have to delete that keychain, make a new one, and set that keychain as the default.

  • Firefox somehow changed my mac's master password, now i cannot use my masterpassword anymore. can i somehow override my screw up?

i've tried the password i reset it to, to no avail. i cannot alter the master password settting in my mac os prefereces anymore. I'm afraid to shut it off now.

Firefox's Master Password -- used to secure passwords you've saved in Firefox -- shouldn't be connected to your Mac's password(s). Unless Firefox works very differently on Mac than on Windows.

  • Forgot Master Password, no acct File Vault: How to get rid of Mst Password?

    Hi -
I am embarrassed, mortified, and humbled about having to post this because it's not about 'someone I know' but about something careless that I did.
This morning, I set up a second account with File Vault on my MBA (Late 2010) to keep sensitive files in it. While setting it up, I set a Master Password which I hadn't enabled before this morning. I used the password generator and used one that I dutifully copied on the clipboard with the intention of IMMEDIATELY copying it into my 1Password app. Then I set up the second account with File Vault.
Well, of course, something distracted me, I habitually copied something else on the clipboard, and I lost the Master Password from my clipboard. (I know, I've been kicking myself ever since...)
Here's my question: The Master Password is not protecting any content in File Vault and I would like to disable the forgotten Master Password and set up one that I really will remember (at least, that's the plan!). How can I do this?
I deleted the new account and I have only one other which is the primary administrator account that is not protected by File Vault. Thanks in advance for any help on this!

    See this thread:
*How to reset FileVault master password*

As explained there, and for obvious security reasons, a new master password created in this fashion way will not unlock any pre-existing FileVault accounts. So resetting the master password is only useful after you have turned off FileVault in all existing accounts, as is true in your case.
