Firefox5 makes my system freeze (have to reboot only)!

I'm using Firefix 5.0 Many times when I play video stream on one tab and close it during the stream still running my system stopped working (I can move the mouse pointer but can't click on anything and none of keyboard button including the ctrl-alt-del worked also.)
I got a suggestion from mozillazine forum to disable all add-on and it seems help. However I don't know how to set it permanently so it keeps freezing my system regularly. So I really need a better solution here.
PS One time it even freezes my system while I did not run any video stream on it.

Actually I just did after posting this question. FF6 looks much better at first. I visited the same video page and close it and my system didn't freezed.
However just before I cameback to this post, it happened again with video on Youtube. (my system freezed)
PS I never experience anything like this with FF2 to FF4.

  • Firefox cookies make my computer freeze & have to be rebooted

Firefox stopped working on my machine (Windows 8.1), it opened in the tabs I had last used but there was no picture displayed and the whole computer froze, making it necessary to restart by pushing the button. Uninstalling and reinstalling made no difference, so I uninstalled it and just started using Chrome (no problem). When optimising my computer using CC Cleaner, it stopped when trying to clear 'Firefox Cookies', also freezing my whole computer & making it necessary to restart it by pressing the off button. I've tried rebooting in safe mode but the same things happen. Please advise how to locate and delete Firefox cookies. Thank you

Thank you Jscher that solved the problem :-)

You're covered for hardware for year, but they'll want a credit card number in case it's software.
Have you gone to universal access in system prefs to be sure you haven't accidentally enabled something like Mouse Keys or Sticky keys?

  • Vertical colors 'take over' screen--system freezes--need to reboot--fix?

always had trouble with the screen going black and having to re-possition it.now these muti-colors appear ...logic board?
    thanks

Yes, it sounds like you may be having logic board problems. You may know that enough dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from this problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Check out the FAQ page and if the symptoms look familiar, give Apple a call. If your iBook qualifies, it's a free fix.
If you are past the three-year time limit, try calling and asking for Customer Relations (NOT Customer Service--they can't help you) and ask them to please make an exception to the three-year limit in your case.
    Good luck.

  • Lost my mouse/system freeze

    Hello,
I have had my macbook lock up a few times in the last couple of days. The first thing I notice is my mouse pointer vanishes and the whole system freezes up. The only way I have been able to get it back is to do a hard reboot via the power button. I didn't notice the lockups until I did the latest updates to Leopard, including the keyboard firmware update. In cases where I have had applications crash the OS asks me if I want to send a report to Apple about the crash. In the cases where the system freezes up and I reboot the system does not ask me about sending a crash report. Is there anyway to manually send a report off to Apple?
I started using time machine about three weeks ago I am wondering if I should roll back to then. I have had my Mac now for almost four months with no issues. In the last week I have had to reboot four times, so something is not right.
    Thanks

It's a bug in 10.5 2 with a "Graphics Update". It happens especially when waking from sleep while an external DVI monitor is attached. Search this forum for more info.
I had to reinstall my OS, and am now running 10.5.0.

  • Macbook Pro Problem:  System freezing with staggered diagonal lines

I started getting the diagonal lines about a month ago, exactly as pictured at http://www.maclife.com/forums/topic/106465 (where I have also posted this info) , and also with a total system freeze. Restarts/reboots did nothing- sometimes I could boot from DVD but lines would appear, then finally I was able to get the DVD to work enough to do a clean install of OS X 10.5 after backing up data via target disk.
While I have a read a lot about the NVidia chip issue possibly causing problems like this, my chip is ATI.
I bought this computer less than a year ago as factory refurb off of ebay, and was shocked right away at how hot it ran. iStatPro would show the hottest temps approaching 200F. A week ago, I removed both my 1gb memory sticks and restarted with each alone- one had immediate diagonal lines, and the other booted up perfectly. So- bad memory- fine and easy, just buy new memory, but just two days ago the lines came back. Just for kicks I removed the memory and put the 'bad' one in and the system ran flawlessly. (scratches head)
Ran for a while, until in the middle of browsing through Aperture, the lines came back. Shut down, switch memory sticks again, and everything is fine again. I began to suspect temperature was the culprit- memory gets hot and stops working and put in a cold one and everything works. I've downloaded HardwareMonitor and SMC fan control and at this time am experimenting with fans speeds and running temps to see if a threshold starts to show up. Today I had the fans running at 2000rpm, and had both memory sticks in, but then got the lines (again while browsing safari and aperture open). I now have the fans at 5000 rpm with one stick of memory in.
One other thing I've noticed is that the memory controller was approaching 140F at times with the power cord plugged in and charging, but would drop immediately by 30+ degrees when I disconnected the power cord. Is that normal?
Anyway- hoping my info will give someone more technically informed than me an 'aha!' moment. Hopefully we can figure something out- I don't have Applecare!

    Hi Shawn,
The image that you linked to seems to have disappeared, I'm afraid.
I'm afraid just because you have an ATI chip doesn't mean that you can discount the possibility of a graphics hardware issue. ATI chips fail too, on occasions of course. There are other hardware possibilities with such things as well, of course. cables, inverters, etc etc.
Not sure what you were doing when you experienced that 200ºF (or which particular temp you are referring to) but it is certainly higher than you would like under normal operation. The trouble with using things like SMCfan control in such situations is that it can mask other, underlying, issues that really need to be addressed like sensor problems or ventilation obstructions. Potentially a bit like taking an asprin to deal with a brain tumor!
Personally I think you should take your Mac in to a service centre and see if the root cause of your issues can be tracked down, rather than using temporary ad hoc fixes.
    Cheers and good luck

  • I have an Iad2 and ever since ios6-there are issues.I get occasional lock-ups and have to reboot. The WSJ app freezes when running their videos to the end. The only work-around is to stop the video before it's over. Worse than windows me !!!!!

My Ipad2 worked perfectly before ios6 upgrade. It now freezes occasionally and I have to reboot to get it to work. Also the WSJ app will now freeze if I try and run one of their videos that is imbedded in the article. My only work-around is to stop (press done) before the end of the video or I have to do a total reboot. The problems remind me of Windows ME . Will Apple resolve these issues or become more like Microsoft. Hopefully there will be a restore button in the future like Microsoft was forced to do because a lot of upgrades are just terrible. Am I crazy or are there other people having the same issues with ios6, or could this just be a coincidence and my ipad2 is starting to fail just when ios6 arrives ?

I know this will not help but, the bluetooth headset I purchased for my wife works great and it pairs with our car and our sound bar in the livingroom (Motorola Droid Razr) 98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US
However I did not upgrade over the air but from a android web site and placed it on my external sd card. I believe this made the difference in why we had no issues and upgraded functionality has been great.
Please note when I mention these bluetooth devices I mean the Razr connects with no problems.
It also had no internet issues and none of the problems others have complained about in other threads.
unfortunately when you say thousands have these issues I cannot say that is accurate. The hope is when large numbers of owners have updated to the Jelly Bean and are complaining inmase then Motorola will issue a patch to verizon to get out to the affected users.
Of course now that Google owns Motorola Mobility and has laid off loads of workers it may never issue an os patch.

Error message: "Warning: unresponsive script". Afterward, the system freezes and will then crash. Crash reports have been submitted many, many times without response. I have tried the fore-mentioned solutions with either no results or very bad results which I filed a report but did not receive an answer. The application to block scripts actually worsened the problem and I could not correct the situation for a while (no response from Firefox, at all). I have also been through this procedure without any one contacting me, AT ALL.

There does appear to be any support whatsoever from mighty "non caring" FIREFOX & people are getting fed up. We may as well try another system, if they can't be bothered to provide any support for their system, we can't be bothered to use their system.

  • Updated iPad2 to iOS6. Now it randomly freezes. Have to reboot (home   sleep key for 15 seconds) several times per day. Help!

Help! I guess I can restore it to original factory settings but I am afraid of losing everything. If it helps the iPad is NOT jailbroken. Any ideas or do I have to wait for a future update?

Just to clarify. Once I am done with the iPad and push the sleep button (upper right corner) or just let it sleep from inactivity for a couple minutes, the issue happens when I try to wake it up. I can see the unlock screen with the pin pad but the iPad becomes unresponsive and I cannot enter the numbers or I can enter the numbers but it freezes right after that while the pin pad is still visible. The only thing that fixes it is to hold the home and sleep button for 10-15 seconds and wait a minute for the whole thing to reboot. At that point it usually works. Still, what I liked about the iPad was the convenience of being immediately ready and now I have to reboot many times per day.
I have an iPad2 with the latest update (6.01) and it is not jail broken. Apple help me please!

  • I have a macbook pro 4,1 early 2008 model running on 10.6.8 snow leopard was wondering if upgrading to moutain lion will make my system run slow?

MBP 4,1 running 10.6.8 snowleopard and it runs great but i was wondering if upgrading to moutain lion will make run slower?

Lion is still available but you have to Call Apple to order it and then they send you a Redemtion Code to your Apple ID Email address that you use on the Mac App Store to download it.
But in all honesty even Lion is going to make your system run slower then it now does. Lion, like Mt Lion, uses more system resources then Snow Leopard. I can see the difference on my 2011 MBP with 8GBs of RAM and a fairly fast hard drive. Snow Leopard boots and runs faster then Lion and more so then Mt Lion.
What you need is a New or Newer MBP. If that is not an option then the only thing I can say is give Lion a try. That is AFTER you do a complete Time Machine Backup of your current Snow Leopard install just in case you need to go back.
By the way Apple replaced the Logic board in your system with the same Faulty NVidia chip install in it. Apple Never Updated the NVidia chip used on those logic boards. So odds are sometime in the future, Near or Far, that board will fail again.
