FirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command is appended to URLs selected in Excel, Windows 8, ver 27.0.1

When clicking on a link in MS Office 2007 components such as Excel, FirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command is appended to the URL causing the search to 404.
I am using Windows 8 on a Sony Vaio, and version 27.0.1 of firefox.
Firefox is up to date, and is my default browser.
Web research shows this is a recurring problem with issues dating back to very early versions.
This began happening after my last update to the current version

Try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser.

  • Hyperlinks from my MSWord files suddenly don't work because "/FirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command" has somehow been added to the end of each URL.

    When I click to open the hyperlink in my Word file, the message I get in Firefox is "The requested URL /submissions.htmlFirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command was not found on this server." When I delete that portion of the URL, the website opens fine. What can I do to make the hyperlinks work properly?

    Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it, but it didn't work. The link information is written correctly on the MSWord page. But when I click on it and the Firefox tab opens, the page can't be found because "FirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command" has been added to the end of each URL. Might it help if I reset Firefox?

  • Excel is adding FirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command when I click on a hyperlink

    I added a hyperlink in an Excel document. When I click on it Firefox adds FirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command to the end of the string. How do I get it to stop?

    Assuming that you are opening a bookmark, right-click that bookmark and select '''Properties''', then un-check the preference for '''''Load this bookmark in the sidebar''''', and then click Save.
    Using JavaScript buttons on web pages for "Bookmark this Page" causes that preference to be selected when saving the bookmark in that manner. So, don't use those buttons, use the "Bookmark this Page" feature that is built into Firefox instead.

  • When I click on hyperlinks in Word or One Note, firefox adds FirefoxHTML\Shell\Open\Command to the url which of course returns a "url not found" error. How can I fix this?

    I recently updates to Firefox 4, but this was happening even before. I read posts online from several years ago that suggested temporarily make IE the default browser, and then changing it back to Firefox, but this didn't help.
    I am using Office 2010.

    See this lnk for a fix, it worked for me!

  • Spinning rainbow wheel for long periods on File Open commands in Acrobat and Office 365 programs

    Hardware & Software:
    MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2009)

    Running OS X Yosemite (Version 10.10.2)
    Over the last few days, when I try to execute a File Open command from Adobe Acrobat or Office 365 programs (even from an innocuous location such as Documents), I get the spinning rainbow wheel for long periods of time (10 seconds to minutes) before I am able to select a file to open. I copied messages from Console after a File Open command for each of Adobe Acrobat and Excel (the selected location was Documents), given below:

    Can anyone give me an idea of what these messages mean and how I can solve this problem?
    If I'm not in the correct Community for this question, could someone kindly tell me where I should re-post?
    Thanks.

    Yes; I have previously connected to an iMac at this location using File Sharing.  However, in my attempts to solve this problem last week, I had already unchecked File Sharing in System Preferences.  Tonight, I also deleted the folder from the window in the File Sharing System Preferences page, then rebooted.  The problem still persists.
    I try not open files across a server line, i.e., I try always to copy a file to the local computer and open it there.  I may have gotten careless and tried to open a file from the Windows server with either or both Acrobat and Office 365.  Although this was an SMB share, is it possible that these programs are now trying to connect to the Windows server on a File Open?
    I had about decided to quit chasing this problem; we spend about two weeks every two months at this Boston location, and I'll be returning to my Florida home this weekend.  So I decided I would see what the situation was when I returned to my native habitat, although I may be chasing this problem again in our trip to the Boston area in April.
    The other thing I wondered (I guess I can't quite let it go), is whether there is a command line in Terminal that would kill all AFP shares.
    In any case, thanks for your help; you're very knowledgeable.

    Help, please.

    Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
    If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Open command in Terminal

    When I try to open a folder from Terminal using the open command, instead of a Finder window opening for the folder, another Terminal window opens up with contents like the following:
    *Last login: Sat Nov 14 16:14:45 on ttys001*
    *jt-imac:~ terrator$ /Users/terrator/Music ; exit;*
    *-bash: /Users/terrator/Music: is a directory*
    logout
    *\[Process completed\]*
    In addition, I get the same symptom when I try to open folders from the Dock and Spotlight so I think the problems are related.
    I have done the following in trying to resolve this problem:
    1. Repair permissions and repair disk with Disk Utility using the Installation DVD after booting from it.
    2. Repair LaunchServices using Onyx
    3. Created a test user to see if this user has the same problem. No, the problem doesn't happen in this user.
    4. Deleted the com.appl.terminal.plist and some other plist files.
    5. Reinstalled Snow Leopard on top of my existing installation.
    None of those attempts have resolved the problem.
    Anyone has any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

    For Terminal.app I don't see anything with name "Folder" but I see one with roles "Editor":
    The Terminal does not execute anything. It is a character terminal emulator that is connected to pseudo (fake) serial terminal device (/dev/pty**)
    The other side of that pty device is attached to an independent process that happens to be running a shell of some kind (default being the bash shell).
    The shell will create child processes on demand and run commands requested by the user. Any text send to standard out or standard error by the shell or any of the children processes started by the shell, will be sent to the pty and the Terminal will read the other side of the pty and display the text in the Terminal window.
    The Terminal will also listen to the keyboard, and send any text you type to the pty where the shell or a child process created by the shell will read the other side of the pty and do what you tell it via the keyboard.
    That is the Terminal's job. communicate through this fake serial device. It does not execute commands. I knows nothing about Folders, nor files, nor TYPE/CREATOR fields, nor file type suffixes. Just reads text you type, and displays text sent back from the shell or its child processes.

  • Opening a url in a new window

    Guys,
    I have a situation to open a url (url is formed dynamically) in a new window on the click of a button (command button).
    I tried to use Go button, but in go button there is no way to provide the url dynamically. I mean i form the url by reading the contents of the page. But go button doesnt allow to form the URL dynamically.
    The problem with command button is, it doesnt open the URL in a new window.
    My requirement is
    i click on the button on a page -> go to method (read the contents of the page) to form the URL -> open the URL in a new window
    How this can be acheived.

    Yes, but i need a method to do my calculation to build the dynamic URL.
    I have resolved it using command button
    public void actionlistener(actionevent event)
    String dynamicUrl = // logic to build url;
    FacesContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExtendedRenderKitService erks =
    Service.getService(ctx.getRenderKit(), ExtendedRenderKitService.class);
    String url = "window.open('" + dynamicUrl + "','_blank');";
    erks.addScript(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(),url);
    this resolved my issue

  • How to pass command-line options to app using the "open" command?

    I am using jedit, and since I'm doing a lot of stuff in a shell, I'd really like to launch it from the command line as though I'd opened from finder, so I wrote a script that contains this:
    open -a /Applications/Jedit.app "$@" &
    This works well for everything except NEW files, where I get this error:
    2007-02-16 19:29:48.072 open[1032] No such file: /Users/millerti/projects/ateon/new_file
    Is there a way I can override this?
    So, it occurred to me that I might try running jedit directly this way:
    /Applications/Jedit.app/Contents/MacOS/jedit -- "$@" &
    The trouble is that this suffers all sorts of weird problems. For instance, if there's already a jedit running, it launches another one (despite the fact that -server is default). Moreover, the file it opens, existing or not, is not the one I specify. If I'm in ~/mydir and I open ./myfile, jedit opens instead /Applications/myfile.
    Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Can someone help me figure out what open is doing internally so that I can launch jedit compatible with how open does it so that I can both open existing files and create new ones the same way from the command line?
    BTW, I can make more complex script.
    Also, if this isn't the right forum for this, can someone tell me where would be a better place to get the question answered?
    And I'm not expecting to get jedit support here. This isn't a jedit problem because it's behaving correctly.
    Thanks.

    Applications rarely take command line arguments. I don't know anything about Jedit, whether that is an exception, but you are not sending an argument to Jedit with the open command. The file name on your command line is an argument to the open command. The open command says "open this file with the specified application". The application doesn't see the argument. It sees the file exactly as if it were opened from the Finder. That's why naming a non-existent file doesn't work.
    What if you open Jedit with no file, create a new document in the application. (Again, I am not familiar with Jedit.)

  • Open e-mail with path(URL) of current file

    I'm trying to create a button in a form that will create a new e-mail message containing the URL of the current file (e.g., file://z:\file.pdf) so the user can just click to open it. But I'm no expert with Javascript.
    Doing a little research, I've gotten this far with the script for the button:
    app.mailMsg(false, "[email protected]", "", "", "Form Subject", "Please see form located here: \n\n "+docurl+"");
    It opens a new message, but it's the last part that doesn't work. I can't seem to figure out the command that returns the URL, or how to insert it into the body of the e-mail. Any help? Thanks.

    Instead of docurl, try event.target.URL. This references the url property of the Acrobat Document object. Though, since your calling this as a parameter of an AcroForms method it may have to be this.URL (the way you'd reference it from an AcroForm (a form not designed in Desinger). I'm not sure off the top of my head, you'll have to try both and see which works.
    Couple of caveats:
    1) If the user opens the form, edits it, then clicks this button without saving the form referenced from this link to the file won't reflect the edits.
    2) If you send the email, I'm not sure that the URL would make sense in the context of another machine. IE: file://c:/test.pdf might work on my machine, but means nothing on yours if you don't have test.pdf on under c:\ on yours.

  • 'sudo open' command doesn't propagate privilege

    I have an application folder (.app) which requires root privilege for capturing network packets. I tried to execute with 'sudo open foo.app' but came back with permission denied error.
    So I changed the directory down to foo.app/Contents/MacOS/ and run the actual binary with sudo command instead. The binary run fine without permission problem.
    I did 'sudo bash' to create a root shell and run 'open foo.app', it still came back with permission problem.
    I am not a Mac experience user, is the 'open' command supposed to stop the root privilege?
    Many thanks

    AFAIK, there is no better way to do it than using what you did

    Thanks anyway

  • "open" command alternative?

    Hello everybody,
    I recently got the g95 Fortran compiler running on my 12-inch PowerBook G4. I've since compiled HST3D, a finite difference heat and solute transport groundwater model put out by USGS. When I launch HST3D from the Terminal, using the command "open" (ie, "open hst3d"), I am prompted for the input file name. Every time, the file is not seen. This program is supposed to be launched from the same directory as the data files. Using the "open" command makes this impossible (I think. Maybe the issue is with the program being opened in a new shell....).
    So, my question is... how do I set up Mac OS X Tiger so that when I simply type the name of a command-line fortran program, then press return, the program will launch (in that shell)? My problem with HST3D may be something else, but having to type "open" before every program is annoying.
    I check my email frequently and will be happy to clarify any points. Thanks for reading,
    Greg

    The PATH variable contains a list of directories that the shell uses to go looking for executables. When you issue a command in shell it will look through each directory listed in the PATH and run the first executable it finds. If an executable is not found in any of the directories in the PATH then you'll get "command not found".
    If you type an absolute/relative/partial path in front of your command then the shell will look for the command at the location you've specified.
    Depending on what your current directory is in Terminal, in most cases your current directory (which can be represented by ./) is not in the path. That's why issuing just the name of your program will get a "command not found" but issuing ./yourCommandName works (because you've specified the path to your current directory).
    Some folks tend to want to add "." to their PATH so it becomes easy to test apps they're developing, but doing this can be a security problem. Here's a link that explains why.
    Steve
    EDIT - directories listed in your PATH do not necessarily have to contain only executables.

  • The way to open 3D pdf with specific model selection from url link

    I guess this feature is not supported, but let me ask one thing.
    I am looking for the way to open 3D pdf with specific model selection from url link.
    For example, if the following link is opened, is it possoble to open 3d.pdf with automatic selection of "abc" model in the model tree?
    http://example.org/3d.pdf#model=abc
    If it can be done by javascript, it's really helpful.

    Impossible. There are only very limited command-line options for the Acrobat Family and you cannot change them.
