FireVault stuck on "Encryption Paused"

I bought a new Macbook pro retina 2 days ago and it came preinstalled with OS X Yosemite, and in the app store i had an update for Yosemite which i did and it asked me after installation weather to use FileVault,
I agreed and my mac booted up, then i put my Mac to sleep while it was charging
When i saw after sometime it got stuck displaying the message "Please connect charger to resume Encryption"...
And its stuck since this morning, I've tried to plug it in and do it again and again, but nothing seems to work...
Please help...!!!

  • File vault stuck on encryption paused.

    Hi all
Recently bought a Macbook Air and decided to use file vault, things seemed ok at first but when file vault was about to finish it became stuck on "encryption paused".
Even with the power adapter connected it still will not continue, also i have found that it will cause "system preferences" to stop responding requiring me to force quit the application.
I have spoke to a very helpful Apple support adviser who said it was a "cosmetic issue" and i should try a PRAM reset but this has not resolved the problem.
Is anybody else experiencing similar problems?
    Thanks

Back up all data before proceeding. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window, select the icon of the startup volume from the list on the left. It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. When prompted, enter the login password of a user authorized to unlock the volume, or the alternate decryption key that was generated when you activated FileVault.
Then, from the menu bar, select
              File ▹ Turn Off Encryption
    Enter the password again.
You can then restart as usual, if the system is working. Decryption will be completed in the background. It may take several hours, and during that time performance will be reduced.
If you can't turn off encryption in Disk Utility because the menu item is grayed out, you'll have to erase the volume and then restore the data from a backup. Select the Erase tab, and then select
              Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    from the Format menu.
You can then quit to be returned to the main Recovery screen. Follow these instructions if you back up with Time Machine. If you use other backup software, follow its developer's instructions.
Don't erase the volume unless you have at least two complete, independent backups. One is not enough to be safe.

  • FileVault stuck on "Encryption Paused"

After upgrading my MPB to Yosemite, I elected to turn on FileVault. In the Security & Privacy panel of System Preferences, the status shows "Encryption paused" and the text under the progress bar reads, "Connect power adapter to resume encryption." Trouble is, I am running from the power adapter!
I have rebooted and tried another power adapter. The battery icon in the menu bar correctly changes from battery to power adapter as I connect and disconnect. However, the encryption status never changes. I have left the machine running overnight with no change.
    Any ideas?

My happened exactly the same thing. Stuck at Encryption Paused, and already tried all the recommendation in this post.
It's no longer moving anywhere now.

  • Filevault stuck on encryption paused, but not to plug in

Ok. So I got a Macbook Air and chose to enable FileVault. About 3 days later, i went back to see what it was doing because "reverting from FileVault" was using "significant energy". So it said encryption paused, please plug in AC adapter to continue or whatever. I was on battery. I plugged in the MagSafe adapter and the message saying "plug in to continue" was gone, but it was still stuck on encryption paused. The blue bar is full all the way and I have left it charging for a while, both  when it was charging and when it was full, but it has been stuck on that. I looked at other people having problems and they had it stuck on encryption paused but also with the "plug in to continue". Mine doesn't say that part. Does anyone know what to do?

  • Time machine stuck at "encrypting"

I have a 2009 iMac 27inch running Mavericks.  Just got a new 4 TB Seagate Plus Backup drive and formatted it Mac OS extended (journaled).  Set up Time Machine to do an encrypted backup.  The backup seemed to go fine.  It ran for 8 or 9 hours.  Now it's been stuck at "encrypting" for about 14 hours.  There has been no progress, according to the blue progress bar, at all.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Eric,
No, it didn't display it at the bottom.  I also tried to reformat the drive, but Disk Utility wouldn't let me erase it.  Finally, I ejected the disk, unplugged it, plugged it back in.  I was able to erase it and I reformatted it in MacOS journaled (NOT encrypted).  Now I do see the partition map scheme listed and it does state GUID partition  table.  I have been able to perform an initial Time Machine backup.  It even did another one or two after that.  Now I get the same message as before.
    Any ideas?

  • FileVault stuck on encrypting

I foolishly tried to enable FileVault and now it is completely stuck on "Estimating time remaining" for 2 days. It became stuck quite fast as it gave me an error a minute or two in, but it won't stop now though...
I checked the status in Terminal and it shows the following:

I'm not sure why it only says 16.8 MB of free space, system info shows 56 GB - but why the looks of it, it hasn't encrypted anything yet. Is there any way I can stop FileVault from loading and shut it down?

Thanks for the response. I do have multiple backups, so I went ahead and rebooted. However, FileVault was still stuck for another 10 hours without doing anything... After calling apple, they told me I would have to do a clean install. So did that, moved all my stuff back  and now all is well again.
And you are absolutely right, in a fit of not thinking, I enabled it without knowing what it does. Not going near it again, that's for sure!
    Thanks for the help

  • Filevault encryption paused, despite reset of PRAM and using terminal commands

I have been trying to partition my HDD but am unable to because file vault encryption is paused - and has been since October 2014.
I attempted making a new user to see if this would bypass it, but it didn't.
I have reset the PRAM and have repaired the HDD both in recovery and normal, neither work.
I have also used terminal command "sudo fdesetup disable" to attempt turning it off, but that doesn't work either.
    Help please??

  • P55-GD85 - Marvell 9128 RAID stuck in rebuild - paused

Testing the SATA III controller to see if its worth using in a real world RAID 1 config.  I tested a disk loss and the RAID array properly went into degraded mode.  When reattaching the second disk I entered the RAID BIOS and set it to rebuild the array.  The rebuild started then paused at 1%.  Its been paused for hours and won't continue.  I've tried rebooting to Windows 7 and also let it sit in the RAID BIOS screen to see if it will rebuild with Windows not running.  Same thing, stuck in paused.
I am aware that paused rebuilds has been a problem with other controllers in the past.  Is this a RAID BIOS issue, Marvell driver issue???  Please help.
My P55-GD85 is running V1.1 BIOS and the latest Marvell driver from MSI downloaded yesterday.
I spoke with Marvell technical support and although unhelpful they did tell me that there is a newer version of the Marvell RAID BIOS that MSI should be using.  That version ends in 1014.  My board is using 1013 currently.  Can someone look into this please???

    Claykin,
I emailed a contact within MSI and received the response below.  The MSI contact asks that you try the 1.24 beta bios.  You'll need contact MSI support.  List what the issue is, link to this thread, and let them know about my contacting MSI and the response.  Use this link for support: http://www.msicomputer.com/msi_user/ts_form.aspx
    Hi Mike,
Can you ask him to try the latest beta bios v1.24 first?
If that doesn’t help, can you ask him his configuration details, maybe we can reproduce the issue here.
    Best regards,
    MSI Customer Service Dept.
I tried V1.24 beta BIOS and it has the same 1.0.0.1013 Marvell BIOS.  MSI should consider upgrading to a new revision from Marvell.

  • Has anyone found a solution to fixing the FileVault "encryption paused" error?

When I set it up I decided to enable FileVault but after a few minutes the encryption failed and now it will not continue and complete, even when I have my computer on and plugged in. • Migrated user - administrator

    Hello,
I have recently bought a MacBook pro and I am migrating the user from my PC.
At the end of migration process I have my old user in my new MacBook, so I have now 1 Administrator as native MacBook (i.e. NATIVE) user and 1 Administrator as migrated (i.e. MIGRATED) user but..... there is a strange fact.....
Ad power-on or restart the NATIVE admin user is shown at login, the MIGRATED admin is shown only if I login as NATIVE, then logout to login again... at this point I can see NATIVE and MIGRATED user icons to choose my preferred login.
What I have to do for having MIGRATED shown at power-on or after restart ?
I am afraid of simply cancelling the NATIVE user
    thanks

  • Cannot restore from Time Machine or Reinstall - MacBook Pro Yosemite

    Hi all,
I recently started using a new Mac (Macbook Pro 15" with Yosemite) about 2 weeks ago. Upon startup it asked whether I wanted to encrypt and I said yes. It then froze for about 30min with the spinny wheel. After the startup was finally complete I used it normally for the next two weeks but the FileVault encryption in Security & Privacy never completed. It was stuck on "encryption paused" and underneath said "Connect to power adapter to continue encryption". Nothing I did fixed the problem. I then did a Time Machine Backup onto a USB with plans to restore from Time Machine. The backup went successfully with no issues. I put the Mac into recovery mode (command+R) and did Restore from Time Machine Backup. It was able to find my Time Machine Backup on the USB, and in the next window "Select a Destination" it found my HD. I clicked restore and there was an immediate error saying that I should restart the computer and try again. From then on in "Select a Destination" it now says "No Time Machine backups were found." This is strange because I already selected the time machine backup and should be looking for a destination now, but regardless nothing can be found.
From there I went to Disk Utility and verified. There didn't appear to be anything wrong. I did repair disk and it didn't seem to do anything.
Then I tried to do a Reinstall OS X. On "Select the disk where you want to install OS X" the only options are my USB with the backup, or "Recovery HD". If I click Recovery HD there is a pop-up saying "This disk is locked." There are no other choices for install, and leaving Recovery mode doesn't appear to be possible.
Does anyone have a solution to this? So far my experience with Yosemite on two different macs has been torture and I do not recommend.
    Thanks!

You have a warranty. Take it back and ask the store to fix it for you. You do not need to encrypt the drive, but the Yosemite installation does so automatically unless you select the option not to do so during the install process. You need to look for that carefully. As of now you would need to turn off FV2 to decrypt the drive which takes about as much time as encryption does - quite a while unless you have a small capacity SSD.
