Firewall asks every time

I keep getting dialog boxes asking me if I want to allow an application to accept incoming connections. I checked SysPref / Security / Firewall / Advanced and the applications were listed there with a green light and “Allow incoming connections” next to each of them. How do I get Firewall to always allow these applications?
(The date and time are correct, not before 2008)

What I found works is:
1) Delete iTunes
2) Delete all references to iTunes from the Firewall exception listed under in the "Advanced…" window
3) Reinstall iTunes
You will get asked if you want to allow access once, but you shouldn't see it again.
I'll try that.

However, I have to ask what your Firewall settings actually are that you're being told they may interfere with iTunes; do you have "Block all incoming connections" set?
Two blocks: “sandbox-exec” and “ntpd” . Both have the Unix Executable icon.
William Kucharski continued:
You should also double check you have "Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections" checked.
It wasn't, but it is now.

I'll guess that you've used a page layout document & pasting created a text box. You can add more pages & create linked text boxes, but I think you'd be better of using a word processing document. In word processing documents there is a basic text layer & additional pages will be created as needed to fit the text. Take a look at the toolbar of your document. If it says "sections" for the +page icon it's a word processing document, if it says "pages" it's a page layout document.

  • How can I get adobe flash player to run without asking every time?

Every time I go to a site that needs adobe flash player it asks if its ok to let it run. How do I make it run without asking every time?

A possible cause is that you do not have the latest version of the Shockwave Flash player (16.0.0.305).
You can check that in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" ("Ask to Activate" or "Always Activate").
You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page:

  • I accidentally checked the box to make firefox stop asking if I want to save my tabs for next time. How do I get it back to asking every time?

I don't want Firefox to automatically remember my tabs every time it restarts; I want it to ask every time.

    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 2 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''' and '''browser.warnOnRestart'''

  • Firefox asks every time for personal certificate. it wont remember choice.

I have 2 personal certificates for accessing several secure sites.
If I check to remember choice, Firefox remembers choosen certificate and works until I close Firefox completely.
When I open Firefox it chooses wrong certificate (it always chooses first certificate on list).
If I choose ask every time and I select certificate and check "remember choice" it remembers until I restart Firefox. Aftert restarting it asks again( this site has requested that you identify yourself with a certificate).
I have reset firefox and imported certificates, and still same happens. It happens on several versions of firefox and on my all computers.
How to remember which certificate to choose on one specific web page?
    Thank you

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history:

  • "Select File Type to Associate with SQL Developer" asked every time

    Hello!
Just thought I'd mention, that the problem with the above question being asked every time you start SQL Developer isn't specific to Windows Vista, as stated in
    Re: Vista Problems
The problem is also constant on Windows XP, if you (or rather your employer) has setup your logon user so you cannot add or change file associations. I think it would be nice with a configuration option in SQL Developer to stop it from asking this question every time.
    Best regards, Hans Henrik Krohn

    Hi,
You can stop SQL Developer from attempting to establish file associations by passing the no.shell.integration system property:
    sqldeveloper -J-Dno.shell.integration=true
    Thanks,

Captivate 8 Continually Crashes: When trying to publish, When trying to use the Object Style Manager. Also it is blocked by Windows Firewall (adobecaptivatews) every time it launches. Working with Captivate App Packager the pane to import from Adobe Edge is missing, so not clear how to import. Overall it seems unstable. Am I doing something wrong? Trying to evaluate before buying so working on a trial version (14 days left), but a bit concerned with Captivate 8 Performance. Please help! :-

    Hi Vikram and Lilybiri,
    Thanks for your responses :-)
I'm working on Windows 8.1... I think that I may have found the issue... I was saving the file in a project directory rather than the default My Captivate Projects folder...
Perhaps Captivate was struggling to find resources it needed?
It hasn't crashed for a while now, though it is struggling - I'm working with a 54 slide PPT presentation that is linked and it takes a very long time to interact.
Sometimes it says that I've removed slides, which I haven't?
    Best,
    Christy.

  • FF 18.0.1 Hotmail Contacts and Cookies: Contacts don't load with "Ask Every Time" and "Allow Cookie". Loads fine with "Keep until they expire."

Everything was working fine under Win8Pro Release Preview and FF (17?)...
    Did full Win7Pro SP1 x64 install.
Installed FF 18.0.1, no add-ons; all defaults except turned on "do not track" and changed cookie handling as described:
Logging in to my Hotmail/Outlook.com account (MS upgraded me to Outlook.com in the middle of my troubleshooting) I can access my Hotmail People (Contacts) without difficulty.
I change FF Options -> Privacy -> "Keep cookies until" from "they expire" to "ask every time."
When I go to "Hotmail People", I click on "Allow" for every instance I'm asked to set or modify a cookie.
The content of the "People" page (the contacts themselves) never loads. I just get the "please wait" circling-dots.
I return to the Hotmail "Mail" page (which still works fine, except when addressing a message).
I change FF Options -> Privacy -> "Keep cookies until" from "ask every time" to "they expire."
When I go (back) to Hotmail People, the contacts load fine.
Shouldn't the two scenarios be the same? I prefer to manually handle cookie handling, so this feature is important to me.
    Thanks!
PS: With the exception of addressing in Mail; Mail, Calendar and SkyDrive all seem to work fine regardless of which cookie setting is used.

Additional information: I had SSL-only enabled in Hotmail, and SSL-only is required by Outlook.com.
I've done four captures using Fiddler v2.4.2.6.
Each capture starts at the Outlook.com Inbox, then the switch to the "People" page.
    1) Captured with cookies set "Until They Expire" (green)
    2) Captured with cookies set "Ask Me Every Time" and "Allow" (red)
    3) Same as (1)
    4) Same as (2)
I don't know Fiddler or HTML well enough to troubleshoot on my own.
If someone would like this file for troubleshooting, please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Firewall nags every time I start an export from quicktime!?

Every time I start exporting from quicktime the firewall asks me to allow incoming network connections and to enter my admin user name and password.
I've checked the firewall in system preferences and quicktime is on the application list and set to allow incoming connections.
I've also tried reinstalling quicktime but to no avail.
Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Go to "/Library/StartupItems/LexSleeper.app” and delete the file. You'll likely need to use an admin password and be prompted to enter your password before the app will be Trashed. Reoboot and the message should be gone and you should be able to empty the trash.

  • I tried to uninstall firefox and to install again on linux mint. Now firefox ask every time for a profile,i never make a profile before and this is a serious problem to me.Firefox can't open and work like before the uninstall

Hi,i am running linux mint.I tried to change the firefox folder from the file system with a new firefox folder cause i had a problem with one extension(download statusbar). So,after that i have problem, firefox ask me about profile and after some tests about it from me,firefox always says"this profile its allready in use, make a new profile or rename one profile".I don't know anything about profiles, first time i see that i can make a profile it's now.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • I specified downloads should always open automatically in Acrobat, and I want to change that now & have firefox ask every time again.

Every time I downloaded a file, Firefox asked me what to do with it: open, save to desktop, etc. There was also a check box for "do this automatically from now on." I checked that box, so now Firefox is automatically opening in Acrobat as I specified. But now I've changed my mind and want Firefox to ask me what to do with each download again. How can I change that preference?

  • Epson Scan prompting for firewall access every time

I’m running Mavericks on a mid-2007 iMac. I have an Epson 710 All-in-one printer. It is connected via USB to my Airport Extreme Base Station. That works fine for printing, though I have to connect to the scanner module via its built-in wifi. Although Image Capture works, Epson has a convenient (and more user friendly) application, Epson Scan. It has been recently supposedly updated for Mavericks, though I can’t see any obvious changes, and the version number seems to be the same. The issue is that EVERY time I launch Epson Scan, I get the “Do you want the application “EPSON Scan.app” to accept incoming network connections?” message. Obviously, I “Allow” each time. I’ve manually added the application to the Firewall exceptions list in System Preferences. I’ve opened the application’s package and put the enclosed application into the Firewall exceptions. I’ve repaired permissions. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled. I’ve tried booting and installing under a fresh test user account. I’ve contacted Epson, only to be told that "Actually this  message is not coming from Epson Scan, this is a part of your system (utility) that pop up. Epson scan does not require this option.” Helpful, eh?
This is the ONLY application I have this issue with. This problem has had me scratching my head at least as far back as Lion, if not to Snow Leopard.

Hi Louis, I had the same issue and managed to resolve it by removing Epson Scan from the Firewall!
    Hope this helps.

  • Cookie "ask every time" feature causes some Facebook features to not work while enabled

FF 16.0.2, Windows 7 Home Premium.
    Using this feature: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/enable-and-disable-cookies-website-preferences?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Enabling+and+disabling+cookies#w_how-do-i-change-cookie-settings
I go to Facebook, and the following don't work:
    * dropping down the "notifications" menu
    * dropping down the "messages" menu
    * seeing who "liked" something by hovering over
    * the detailed list of events in top right
    * the chat feature
When I switch off the "ask" feature (by going "Remember history"), and reload FB, all of the above immediately work. When I switch to "Custom/ask" again, and reload FB, the above don't work again. It's entirely reproducible.

Jaya, try reading the posts before trying to "help" next time. Thanks.

  • Apple firewall askt every time for network acsecc KAV (kaspersky)

I use kaspersky for mac with my iMAC. During start up i receive a massage: the program KAV will get income Network (firewall massage) Agree oder disagree... When I press agree the apple-firewall should save the permission
When i start my Mac the next time the same firewall-question is on my screen!
How can I solve that problem?

I agree that, for a knowledgeable and careful person in sole control of his/her Mac, it's extremely unlikely for AV software to be needed in any way, and is thus "unnecessary medicine."
However, I've encountered a few people this year who somehow got malware (verified with ClamXav) and didn't know how. One in particular had RSPlug... he was quite willing to talk and not offended by the (carefully worded) question about whether pirated software or video plugins from p0rn sites were involved (they weren't). In his case, either he got one of the variants of RSPlug that aren't overtly questionable or his teenage son did something and wouldn't admit to it. What would you suggest I tell people like this? Education can't always be the cure because of things like those rare RSPlug variants and because of disobedient teenagers.
Also, note that ClamXav is quite well-behaved and only scans when and what you tell it to. If you say that AV software is harmful, I'd have to say you haven't actually tried that one.
