Firewall blocks iTunes 10 - airport express ( = v9.x.x always been fine)

I have just upgraded to iTunes 10 and I am really not happy. I would appreciate any ones help, if any one could take pity on me.
The first thing my iTunes server is no longer supported, but in addition I cannot connect to airport express. There were never any problems at <= v9.x and the only action taken was to upgrade to 10. The airport express appears to connect fine end ends up with steady green light and all the firewall settings allow absolutely the fullest access for anything remotely itunes/airport etc related.
If I turn the windows firewall off all is well. However I have given access to absolutely anything I can think of that may remotely be to do with iTunes including iSCSI Service and other odd things found on google. Why don't apple tell you if something new has been installed that needs allowing by the firewall
I can't understand why itunes 10 is so bad and why apple are so silent on it. I also can't understand why after buying airport express and three years apple subscription as soon as I login for support the page just tells me I have no order or repair code, before it even asks me for anything else.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am beginning to regret every getting involved with anything to do with apple or itunes.

So many users have this same problem. Come on Apple...
Seems to affect both MAC and PC users - though in different ways.
Incidentally though its not as good Winamp allows you to get to the Airport if you have the right plug in. Airfoil also allows you to get past it (if you dont mind using this as well as ITunes). Both work with the Windows Firewall on.
I'm doing that until Apple release a fixed version.

  • Hello, I have Iphone 5 with Itunes music, airport express, 2 stereo speakers. What else do I need to hear music on the speakers?

Hello, I have Iphone 5 with Itunes music, airport express, 2 stereo speakers. What else do I need to hear music on the speakers?

    Hello ricsch,
It sounds like you want to setup your Airport Express to Airplay music from your iPhone 5.  I found an article with steps to help you get this setup:
Connecting to an existing Wi-Fi network, exclusively for iTunes music
AirPort Express used exclusively for AirPlay by setting it up in Client Mode.
Choose this configuration if the computer containing your iTunes library may be out of direct range of the AirPort Express, but is within range of the Wi-Fi network.
    How to Set It Up
Connect your AirPort Express to your home stereo or powered speakers.
From your computer, join the wireless network. Use the AirPort status menu in the menu bar on a Mac. On a Windows-based computer, hold the pointer over the wireless connection icon until you see your AirPort network name (SSID), and choose it from the list if there are multiple networks available. Enter the network password, if necessary.
Open iTunes on your computer and choose the AirPort Express(es) you wish to stream music through from the speakers pop-up menu in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window.
I also recommend reviewing the sections titled "Some things you should know about AirPort Express with AirPlay" and "Things to consider before you begin" in the full article:

  • Streaming Itunes to Airport Express

I am able to stream itunes on Airport Express while also using my computer to access the internet via an Airport Extreme Network. I am also able to do the same at a vacation home which uses a Linksys network. However, when using the office network (small private office) with secured wireless access, which I have he access to, the itunes will only work on the wireless network if selected network is chosen on the banner bar at top of the desktop. The system sees both wireless networks (the Airport Express & the office wireless network). I was actually surprised that I could stream music to the express and still maintain a separate connection for internet simulteanously. I would like to be able to have the sam capability for the office as I do at home and the vacation home, any advice??

you can only stream music to an airport express if you have selected that network from your list under the airport icon at the top of your screen... so if you have selected your itunes network then you obviously can't also be part of another wireless network to use the internet. The only way to do this is to make your itunes network a part of the network which is used to access the web. Airport express has profiles which enable you to setup multiple settings so when you take your airport into the office, reconfigure the airport using airport admin and have it 'join' your office network and make sure you give it the same network name as your office one. Then from your airport network list select the name and you will be able to both listen to music and surf.

  • Setting up Itunes on Airport Express -

Hi, I am setting up itunes to play from my laptop wirelessly to my home stereo. I have airport extreme running fine for intenet, etc...
I think I have wired everything correctly as far as airport express and my stereo.
I installed airport express/itunes from the disk.
when I open itunes, there are no "home speakers" as the manual would suggest.
Any suggestions would be great. Thank you!

I've had some success with setting up iTunes over Airport express. How are you connected to the internet?

  • Norton Antivirus blocks printing to Airport Express-attached printer

I have my HP Photosmart C4480 ("the free printer") set up with my airport express base station and it works fine, but only if I disable the portscan vulnerability protection in Norton Antivirus (11.0.1). Does anyone know if there is a better way to use the Airport Express print server? Am I exposing my network to portscan attacks?

You may have not been aware that you need to have an AirPrint compatible printer to be able to print directly from the iPhone or iPad.
Unfortunately, your Epson R230 is not on the list of compatible devices. See the link below for more information about AirPrint compatible devices.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
You might want to check with Epson Support to see if they may have an updated driver for download that would allow this, or whether they plan to make an update available in the future for your model.
If no luck there, a possible workaround would be to install an application like Printopia on your Mac. There is a free trial for the Printopia software, so you will know in a few minutes whether this might work for you. Your Mac must be running for this to work.

  • Itunes using Airport Express 802.11n and Remote app no longer staying connected

I'm running Windows 7. I find that my Remote app either keeps dropping Home Sharing (unless I toggle Home Sharing off/on in Itunes) or if it finds my library it cannot open it through the app. I can play music through my Airport, but it's the remote app that can't seem to connect with my iTunes. I should add that the remote app has the same breakdown on both my iphone 6 and ipad mini 2. So it's not the app, but some problem along the line (Airport express? router? Itunes?) Any suggestions?

    OK, thanks for the info.
You'll need to jot down a setting that the AirPort Extreme (AEBS) is using in order to give the AirPort Express (AX).
Open AirPort Utility, select your AEBS and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Jot down the setting that you see for Wireless Security
    Close AirPort Utility
Hold in the reset button on the AirPort Express until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly and then release.
Temporarily, position the AX near your AirPort Extreme and connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AirPort Express
Open AirPort Utility, select the AX and click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab below the icons to name your device, establish a device password (write this down) and adjust time settings
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Join a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Exact same name as your AirPort Extreme wireless network
Enter a check mark next to Enable Ethernet clients
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as your AEBS that you wrote down
Wireless Password = Same password that your AEBS network is using
    Confirm Password
Click Update at the lower right and the AX will restart. You can close AirPort Utility and disconnect the ethernet cable once you see the message that the settings have been saved to the AX.
After 30-45 seconds, you should have a green light on the AX. Now you can move the AX where it is needed and power it back up again. The ethernet port on the AX is enabled in this type of configuration, so you should be able to connect an ethernet device and connect. You may need to restart the device and/or the entire network to get everything synchronized.

  • Apple TV doesn't show up in iTunes when AirPort Express is running at the same time - Can't play music on both Apple TV and AirPort Express speakers together

    Hi there!
I am trying to play music from my Mac on multiple speakers, Apple TV and AirPort Express. But as soon as the AirPort Express station is plugged in, the Apple TV does not show up in iTunes anymore. When trying the same using iPhones Remote app it works perfectly.
Does anyone of you have an idea why iTunes does not show me both Apple TV AND AirPort Express? (it has nothing to to with the IP adress as the adresses are different).
    Thanks for any help!

As my english isn't too good I made a screenshot to show you what I mean.
As you can see in the image below iTunes only shows me the computer speakers and the AirPort Express. But at the bottom you can see that iTunes actually recognized 3 different speaker (Mac, AirPort, Apple TV 2). Why does the Apple TV not show up in the multiple speakers window? Any ideas?

  • ITunes show Airport Express Speakers but will not allow me to choose them

Hi, I just installed and updated my 802.11g airport express. When I open iTunes (version 9- just updated today), I am able to see the speaker selector option on the bottom right of the screen. When I open it, the choice for my laptop speakers and airport speakers both appear; however, only the laptop speakers can be chosen. I am unable to choose the airport speakers at all. I have downloaded all of the latest firmware/software I can think of for both iTunes and the airport express. Please help!!!

After months of having this problem (and a few unsuccessful hours at the Genius Bar), I finally found a fix.
In AirPort Utility, I updated the firmware.
I redid a bunch of other settings, too. Updated to latest iTunes (9), reset my preferences in Security (via Control Panel) and reset the remote speaker option through iTunes (preferences, advanced). But, it was the firmware update that finally got it to work. Sorry I can't be more specific - I'm not a computer buff. Good luck!
    Dang, I hate updates.

  • Lost ability to stream iTunes with airport express

I have a mid 2007 iMac using a Time Capsule for backup and Wifi and an airport express hooked up to my house audio system for airplay.
Just upgraded to Mountain Lion and lost the ability to stream iTunes to my audio system. External speaker icon and controls are still there in itunes however when I select it, it wont connect. Airport utility shows the iMac, Time Capsule, and Airport Express with green lights. Checked for software updates and rebooted all three devices to no avail.
    Any ideas experts?

  • Playing music through iTunes on AirPort Express

    I have the following configuration:
Airport Express (AX) ver 6.3 firmware
    iTunes 7.1.1
    Airport Admin Utility ver 4.1
Linksys WRV200 wireless router - all wired and wireless computers connect to Internet and LAN here.
My AX is configured to join my existing wireless network.
I want to play music from any computer on my network-wired or wireless via iTunes and AX.
Up until 2 months ago, I was able to play music to my AX from any wired or wireless computer on my network. I'm not sure that anything has changed with my configuration but now I can only see the AX in iTunes on wireless computers. When use the AirPort admin utility on a wired computer, I cannot see the AX in the base station chooser window but I can choose "other" and manually enter in the AX IP address and password and connect to the AX and configure the AX from the wired computer.
I have the AX configured to enable airtunes over ethernet and have all iTunes clients configured to look for remote speakers. Can any one help here?

Swipe from the bottom and a window will come up with the airplay option

  • Trouble connect itunes to airport express

    Hi there,
I am have configured my airport express via the Airport Utility to join my current wireless network and become a speaker Option for itunes.
    stats:
    OSX 10.6.4
    itunes 9.2
    airport express hardware version 6.3
    solid green LED.
I can see the option in itunes and I choose it and either the option is ignored and stay on the internal speakers of my laptop or I get an error that says "An unknown error (-1) occurred while connecting to the remote speaker" and a bunch of strange characters continue on. no option to post a screenshot?
    Any ideas on this problem?
I can access the airport via the "Airport Utility" and all the settings are correct and I have a solid Green LED.
    Cheers,
    Noah

    Hi,
I also get the Korean error message form time to time when trying to get AX to stream iTunes. Its just one of many awesome things that occurs when attempting to use iTunes with an AX in client mode.
    Others include:
    - AX disappearing off Airport utility and not being found with rescan even though green light is on the AX. Unplugging and plugging the AX back in usually makes it reappear.
    - Itunes never finding my remote speakers even though green light is on the AX.
    - Music cutting off and never coming back even though green light is on the AX.
(All latest updates and firmware applied)
Its great when it does work though...
    Cheers

  • Sharing Music in iTunes w/ Airport Express

    Hello,
After installing my Airport Express, all the shared libraries from other university students in my building are now gone within iTunes. Everyone else with Airport works great: printing, speakers, internet.... Anyone have any clue how I can fix this?
    Thanks
    Nick

This problem is unique to users of the Airport Express on a university network. Connecting to a university network doesn't have the same requirements as connecting to a cable or DSL modem, because on a univesity network you don't necessarily want the Airport Express to act as a router between your computer and the network the Airport Express is connected to.
You can fix this by disabling the router built into the Airport Express. To do this, run the Airport Admin Utility, select your Express, click the Configure button, click the Network tab, and then uncheck the setting to "Distribute IP addresses". Update settings to the Airport Express. Then restart your computer.
There is a possible downside to doing this - which is that while you will be able to access everyone else's shared iTunes library and the internet, there is a possibility (depending on how IP addresses are distributed on your university's network) that you may no longer be able to print or stream iTunes to your Airport Express. If these functions of your Airport Express do contineu to work (this is good!) they will also be accessible to everyone else on the university's network (this is not so good!).
