Firewall for Uploading/seeding question

Hello, everyone. I really don't do any file sharing, but I downloaded a show from a file sharing page (UKNova) and it is required of me to seed until I reach a ratio. My question is: Is it safe to do this? My firewall is on and file sharing is off too. Even with "file sharing off", I can still seed. Which I do want, but is it safe?

UKNova is a P2P (Peer-to-Peer) file sharing site employing BItTorrent.
In general, I recommend avoiding P2P sites for reasons discussed in "Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware" FAQ.
Some key issues with P2P sites, including those employing BitTorrent, are the following:
• The sites are often distributing content illegally, i.e. in violation of copyright. Participating in such a network can make you legally liable in furthering copyright violation. Organizations like the MPAA and RIAA have sued individuals found to be participating in P2P networks that share content illegally.
If you "seed" content for a BitTorrent site, your computer becomes a distribution point for such content. If that content is being distributed illegally, such as without the expressed permission of the copyright holder, you would be violating international copyright law and furthering copyright infringement.
• The sites may distribute illicit materials, such as obscene content, masquerading as some other form of content.
• The content you download may be — or contain and install — malware or spyware, again masquerading as something else.

I was going through the cutover activities , and what I understood is we transfer all the legacy system data into SAP before going live
The data upload follows certain steps (depends on the organizational design load strategies)
First we upload all the master data ( material master, BOM, W/C's & Routings)
Then the transaction data ( Ideally speaking, there should no open orders i.e. WIP as on the day of cutoff )
If the WIP (Work in Process) is unavoidable then the materials consumed shall be treated as materials of the previous stage and necessary adjustments shall be made after cutover day
At this point, I could not able to understand what does the author mean materials of the previous stage
Now comming to the uploading of data into SAP from legacy system, we use tools like LSMW, CATT & BDC
Is it a must to use only LSMW tool to upload master data or any other upload tools are fine
Lastly,. I am not sure about the Tcode of CATT & BDC

1.What does the author mean material of previous stage, for WIP materials during cutover activities - as i understood, what is the stage of material..like it must have gone through 2 work centers and other 2 is left. i.e. you need to create Production order with only 2 operation as other 2 is already over. - usually it is done in such a way that we will create Production order and confirm till 2 operations and WIp is calculated so thatb FI will tally the books in SAP and lagacy.
2. Is it mandatory to use only LSMW tool for uploading for master data - no you can use any tool as required and suits yr requirement
3. What are the Tcodes for upload tools CATT & BDC- BDC through a prog in SE38. CATT through - SCEM.

Quicktime Pro VS Sorenson Squeeze which is better for uploading to YouTube?

I'm thinking of buying Quicktime Pro or Sorenson Squeeze - which is better for uploading to YouTube? Which would give my video better quality?

First.
You have no control over the conversion to Flash video (done during the YouTube upload) if you use QuickTime .mov format.
Second.
YouTube does allow H.264 Video for its "high quality" display so you would want a QuickTime .mov container.
Now you are even more confused than when you started.
Flip4Mac allows export from QuickTime (and apps like iMovie that use it) to Windows Media Player (.wmv) formats. They will also be converted to Flash Video by YouTube so you gain nothing by using it.
You don't need Squeeze, QuickTime Pro or the Flip4Mac upgrades. Just use iMovie 7 (part of iLife '08).

Basic 1000v for Hyper-V questions

I have a Hyper-V 2012 R2 server (free version of Hyper-V) and I am in the process of deploying the Cisco 1000v virtual switch. I have a few questions, however:
1) My server has a single NIC with 4 uplinks. At the Hyper-V parent OS level, there is an external vSwitch not shared with the OS that uses the public IPs to go directly to the internet. And there is an internal vSwitch which is internal IPs but they are NAT'd via the UTM firewall to get internet connectivity.
The documentation states either 4 NICs with 1 uplink each or 1 NIC with 4 uplinks as a best practise, so I comply with this.
Should the VSM use a native Hyper-V switch and all my other VM's use the Cisco switch? In particular, see:

When I imported the template into SCVMM (2012 R2) and built the VSM, it did not pick up specific VM settings. I am not sure if my NIC configuration is correct, could someone take a screenshot of how this should look?

Best approach for uploading document using custom web part-Client OM or REST API

Am using my custom upload Visual web part for uploading documents in my document library with a lot of metadata.
This columns contain single line of text, dropdownlist, lookup columns and managed metadata columns[taxonomy] also.
so, would like to know which is the best approach for uploading.
curretnly I am trying to use the traditional SSOM, server oject model.Would like to know which is the best approach for uploading files into doclibs.
I am having hundreds of sub sites with 30+ doc libs within those sub sites. Currently its taking few minutes to upload the files in my dev env. am just wondering, what would happen if the no of subsites reaches hundred!
am looking from the performance perspective.
my thought process is :
1) Implement Client OM
2) REST API
Has anyone tried these approaches before, and which approach provides better performance.
if anyone has sample source code or links, pls provide the same
and if there any restrictions on the size of the file uploaded?
any suggestions are appreciated!

How to calculate 25,000 ceiling for uploaded songs

Can you help me calculate how close I am to hitting the 25,000 ceiling for uploaded songs?
I still have more CDs to upload but don't know how to measure what capacity I have left for more songs.
Here are my stats -
A. Under My Music, on the left side, it says
All artists - 46,762 songs
Compilations - 733 songs
Question 1: Is the total number of iTunes Match songs 46,762 or 47,495 (46,762 + 733)?
B. Under Playlists, on the left side, it says
I have only uploaded music albums so I have songs PLUS digital booklets or a small number of music
videos that come with the albums. iTunes Match doesn't seem to upload the digital booklets or music videos.
Purchased (with the circle and arrow symbol beside it) - 25,169
Purchased AAC audio file - 29,137
Question 2: Which of these numbers - 25,169 or 29,137 - represent the number of songs I have purchased, and should then be
deducted from the number of songs in Question 1?

I suggest that you make two playlists:
Use iCloud status = purchased
use iCloud status = matched or uploaded.
THe he second on will tell you how close you are to the limit.

Best format for upload to a website

i would like to know what is the best format for upload to a website, what i got now is an exported quicktime self contained movie from fcp 25 minutes in length.
the footage itself is shot on mini dv and edited on an uncompressed 8 bit sequence, when exported to quicktime it is 28 gb in size so it is kind of a heavy one.
is it possible to upload it in one piece ( apple recommends exporting to mpeg4 yet i got a bad quality out of this using mpeg streamclip.
what would be the best compreessor for this

Check the links that Cristina posted, then let us know if your quality improved, using Compressor...it should.
One question for you regarding quality...are you referring to overall quality of the full frame image, or are you displeased with text/graphics.
If this is the case, then I'd wonder if you edited in a DV sequence, then dropped the edited content into an 8bit timeline for exporting at better quality.
This can cause degradation of the image (particularly text/graphics), since you're taking a 720x480 frame and ever-so-slightly vertically scaling the frame up to 720x486.
Let us know what you did...and your results w/Compressor.

FTP for upload / synchronization

I know this is a bit of an odd question, but here goes . . .
I've been using a very old version of GoLive (5.00) for about a decade now, and for most of that time, I've used it only for uploading changes to website files. As for making the changes in the first place, I've just been working with the raw HTML code. But I've found GoLive to be very useful for the FTPing since it keeps track of the local files that have been updated.
I'd be happy to continue on the way I have in the past, but after rebuilding my entire WinXP platform from scratch on a new HDD, I'm having trouble with the GoLive install. I've gone around the bend a couple times trying to get it right, but then it occurred to me: I'm going through a lot of trouble trying to install a pretty good-sized piece of software that I really intend to use only for FTPing.
So here's my question... can anyone recommend an FTP-type program that has the same type of synchronization capability that's built into GoLive's FTP feature? If there's a good Freeware package out there, all the better.

So... FWIW... My initial problem was getting an error msg — you know, report this error to Microsoft dialogue box — when I exited GoLive. This was the only problem, but I thought the reason I had it was that I installed the 5.00 UPGRADE CD fresh; i.e., *not* on top of 4.XX. So, I uninstalled 5.00; installed 4.XX and then reinstalled the 5.00 upgrade. This lead to more problems with a half-dozen error messages when I tried opening GoLive. That's when I uninstalled everything and posted my original message.
After the flood of replies to that » ;-) « …, I figured I might as well try re-installing 5.00 fresh. I have done so and have the original problem (error report dialogue on exit), but it's an easy one to live with until FileZilla comes out with synchronization support.

Firewall for iPodTouch

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this question. I want to develop an application that can block the internet access (drop the tcp packets) in an ipod touch. If it was a mac - i would use the IPFW driver. Can i do the same with an iPod touch ? Are there any alternatives ?
Or atleast is it possible to develop a firewall from scratch for the iPodTouch os ?

You will have the most important information on your company on those serves, why would not you have a firewall for them, would be the right question?
Each single network has a lot of vulnerabilities, we as security engineers are in charge of reducing the amount of vulnerabilities so people on the outside of our network cannot compromise our servers.
And that is the whole point of a firewall, reduce the possibility of an attack to our servers.

You will have the most important information on your company on those serves, why would not you have a firewall for them, would be the right question?
Each single network has a lot of vulnerabilities, we as security engineers are in charge of reducing the amount of vulnerabilities so people on the outside of our network cannot compromise our servers.
And that is the whole point of a firewall, reduce the possibility of an attack to our servers.

Cyberduck v. iWeb for uploading

I have recently created a website using iWeb and had problems with uploading directly to my ftp server. I tried with cyberduck and it seems to work fine (on the first try at least!) but obviously this is an extra step that I would prefer to avoid if possible.... This brings me to my 2 questions:
- is cyberduck a better method for uploading in general? e.g. are people having good results with iWeb uploads or is a 3rd party ftp app the way to go?
- when using cyberduck, is there a way to only upload the changes or do you have to essentially overwrite the whole website each time?

Using an FTP application allows you to add SEO tags and optimize your files.
The only application I know that will upload changed files is Web Site Maestro. The application is an optimizer with a basic built in FTP function.

Opening the firewall for programs you can't access via the dialog?

I have a server program located in /usr/var/ (cumulus) and I need to open the firewall for it. Because Leopard seems to block access to the / directory how can I add that application to the firewall? I can't seem to browse to it...
Better question still, how can I browse to / directory in the Finder?

You cannot browse these hidden system directories using Finder.
You need to use the Terminal.
There are free firewall add-ons for Leopard that give you a better control over the firewall. There are also stand-alone firewall replacements. You can google for them, but be careful when you modify the OS. Be sure it is fully backed up, preferably with a bootable clone, just in case.
