Firewall ports for shared computers (bonjour) to appear in Finder?

This is the setup:
my Lion server is in a different subnet (DMZ) then the workstations (LAN) through the means of a third-party firewall
the Lion server has File Sharing enabled
the workstations can access the share points by connecting to the server (connections from LAN to DMZ are permitted)
The problem:
the Lion server wont's show up in the workstation's finder (shared computers AKA bonjour)
The question:
what ports need to be opened from DMZ to LAN in order for the Lion server to announce itself to the clients?

A work around that may work for you (does for me) is simply to keep the errant PC from sleeping during the period that you may want to connect to it. That's right. Torture is by depriving it of sleep. It's a PC; it deserves it, right?

  • Noob Warning - Shared Computers No Longer Appear in Finder after Update

I recently (last Saturday) purchased a new MBP. I do a lot of photography and Photoshop work, and it was time to make the jump (especially with CS5 due out by the end of the month).
Prior to the 10.6.3 update, the other computers in my home workgroup all appeared under the Shared section of Finder. Now, after the 10.6.3 update, they're gone. The other computers are a laptop running Win7 Ultimate, another running Vista Ultimate, and a third running WinXP Pro. I sometimes need access to these in order to work on images or Word/Excel files.
Would appreciate any guidance as to how to get these computers back and appearing under Shared.

Ouch!... I'm seeing the same thing.  Playlists that were seen prior to yesterdays update are no longer seen.  Don't see any options to disable them so hopefully this will get fixed.

  • HT4889 Migration Assistant to update my new Mountain Lion iMac from an external USB hard disk drive, it is constantly saying that it is "looking for other computers". It doesn't find the external drive. Why is it looking for other computers?

I'm trying to use Migration Assistant to update my new Mountain Lion iMac from an external USB hard disk drive. I told it to look for a drive, yet it is constantly saying that it is "looking for other computers". It doesn't find the external drive ... it just endlessly looks for other computers. Why is it looking for other computers at all, when I told it not to?

Wow, the wording in Migration Assistant is misleading. I've never used it before, so I thought I would try to copy my files from the external drive ... my old iMac died, but I managed to get everything I need off it, using the 'cp' command in single-user mode. So I guess I'll just have to manually copy the files from the external drive to the new machine. I was hoping that Migration Assistant might help somehow, but obviously not.
    Thanks for the quick reply!

  • Any way to open port for all computers?!

    Hey folks,
I'm using an Airport Extreme as the router for a small network. It's been performing fantastically.
But, something I can't figure out is:
Is there any way to open a port for all the computers I have hooked into the Airport?
I can of course open ports per internal IP address, but what I'd really like to do is just open up a slew of ports for all of the machines. This way I can leave them grabbing DHCP-provided, non-static IPs, but they can also get access to the services they need to.
Tried the old asterisk in the host IP field (like "192.168.1.*") but no dice. Actually I can't even find a yes or no answer on if this is even possible...
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but the AirPorts do not support a feature to forward a port to multiple IP addresses; only multiple ports to a single IP address.

  • Firewall Ports for Web Services

    Hi Experts,
Can you please list what are the firewall ports to be opened to call a ECC 6.0 system web service from a .Net application, assuming both systems are separated by a firewall
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Krishna

    Hello ,
Please as far as i know you have to open 4 ports in the ecc system.
    They are
    Message server port =  36<instance number>
    ITS = 80<Instance number>
Gateway = 33<instance number> -- make sure service entries are maintained (sapgw)
If you maintain Central SLD - then the specific port needs to be opened. - 5(instance number)00.
I hope these ports needs to be opened and this is enough,  I believe.
    Vijay.

  • I have 2 Macs, connected to the same Wifi network. But sometimes, the shared computers does not appear on the left hand menu of the toolbar for me to access shared folders between the computers. Am I doing something wrong?

I recently bought a MacBook Air for work. Whilst at home, both my Macbooks are connected to the same Wifi network. Sometimes, the 2 Macbooks are connected and I can access the shared folders, which is great. However, every now and again, the connection seems to be lost. Is there something I need to set up so that every time both Macbooks are switched on and connected to my Wifi, it will automatically be linked?
    Any help is much appreciated!

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • Opening ports for Windows computers...

Hi Everyone! This is my first post on the official forums!
I am currently sharing my internet connection (ethernet) through my Macbook wirelessly to my windows PC.
It all works very well as long as just use port 80 for simple web-surfing but whenever i use programs (Steam and Bittorrent) that use other ports i don't seem to get a connection.
The firewall in my Macbook is turned off...
    Thanks in advance!
    MVH//Kalle from Sweden

Hi Kalle... & Welcome to the Discussions!
You might need to open ports on any Roiter the Mac is connected to, but you didn't mention such a thing...

  • ZAC Firewall ports for getting runtimes?

    Hi guys,
I am trying to create some simple ZAC applications for exemple IE8. I'm adding the Adobe 9.0 and .NET3.5 Runtimes to the app and I'm getting a 401 error. I know that there's a lot of firewall restriction where I am and I wanted to know if there's some ports that needs to be opened for this to work?
My next step is to test the same thing on a different network to see if this is an installation problem. I am using 8.0.3 right now on XP.
    Thanks!

  • Different options for shared computers (screen sharing)

    http://photocat.smugmug.com/photos/221486937-L.png
Why do I get two different login options on my network? For one computer I can check on screen sharing, but I don't get that option for the third computer.
Am I missing a point here?
What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated
I have leo on my laptop and can screen share with the swivel on tiger, but not with the iMac G5 on tiger...

    Hi Catherine.
The question is. Are both computers running Leopard? Screen sharing only works between Leopard computers. It doesn't work between Leopard and Tiger unless you install a third party VNC program like Chicken of the VNC or similar.
I have three computers at home. Two with Leopard and one with Tiger. I can share my screen between the Leopard ones but not with the Tiger one.

  • Firewall ports for Nexus 1000v

    hi all,
There is firewall between nexus 1000v and vcentre and ESX 4.1i hosts.
Could u pls advise which TCP/UDP ports to be opened for communication among Nexus1000v, vcentre and ESX hosts?
    Thank you very much!
    Best Regards,

    David,
Between your VSM & VC you'll need TCP ports 80 & 443 open
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_0_4_s_v_1_3/troubleshooting/configuration/guide/n1000v_trouble_5modules.html
Between your VEM & VSM you'll need port this should be layer 2 so no ports need to be open.
If you're using Layer 3 mode then enusre you have UDP 4785 open.

  • Firewall ports for appv client

native Appv infrastructure. Apps are published using UNC.
what ports should be open for the clients sitting behind the firewall?

No, the client does not communicate with the App-V Management Server.
