FireWire 800 Card Reader

I just bought 3 Lexar Professional UDMA FireWire® 800 Card Readers. The problem I am having is that they wont work in the 800 port. It cant be the card reader because they are plug and play and not all 3 would be broken. So, either there is a firmware update or something. Please help.
Thanks

Have you tried using the readers individually, using the long fw800 cable, and not the short connecting ones? I have two of them and the short cable(s) caused some transfer problems in which I lost images. Perhaps because they get bent so much, the stress damaged the short cables somehow.

I would like it to have as many FireWire 800 and USB ports as possible. The last one I tried to purchase was not actually compatible with my particular system. Check out below for my system details.

  • Firewire 800 CF-reader faulty after lion upgrade

    Hi,
After upgrading to Lion, my primo 2008 iMac will no longer read from my Delock firewire 800 CF-reader. Found a few other notions on mac-forums about firewire issues, some mentioning the kernel running i 64-bit being the course. Tried booting i 32-bit with no luck.
    Any suggestions?
    Martin

    And their swift reply....
    Dear Sir Christensen,
    thank you for your message.
Our CF card reader is a plug&play device and is automatically recognised by the Mac OS.10.7.
That is only the cases, if her CF- card reader own the current firmware.
A problem with the default driver under  Mac OS.10.7 is unknown.
It is none other driver available.
In our test we could not this problem reconstructed.
It is possible, that our CF card reader is incompatibly with her harware.
We have for our older CF card reader (befor december 2011) the following solution.
If you have a Windows XP you can update the new firmware for our CF-card reader in this system via the included tool.
The disadvantage is, the tool is executed only in a Microsoft operating system.
We have tested it and it worked.
Instructions for using the tool "91694FW.exe":
    Link for the new firmware.
    http://www.delock.de/produkte/G_91694/treiber.html
Please join our CF-card reader with your system .
Insert a CF card in our CF-card reader.
Now extract the software from the annex under the directory "C:".
Click inside the extracted folder on "91694FW.exe".
The tool should now be opened and the directory path for the "JMB355_v0.00.100.11.33.bin" will displayed.
Now click on the "Start" button.
The update is executed and a successful upgrade with the message "PASS" is acknowledged.
Then close the tool and test the CF Card Reader for Mac OS.10.7 with a CF-card.
Note on a possible error during the execution of the update.
If the "START" button after opening the tool can not be activated, is probably the cause the used the CF card.
Try to update with another CF card.
Please note the following information to the "Firmware Update Utiliy MAC v0.1.dmg.rar" !!!
The Mac OS.X based firmware became negative tested from us .
For this reason this firmware is not available over us.
In addition, can not be completely excluded a defect on our hardware.
Please contact in this case, her trader for the regulation of your claims.
Please note the following information about "compatibility with a Mac OS.X":
On all our current card reader ( since December 2011) is the firmware "JMB355_v0.00.100.11.33.BIN" contain.
    The current card reader supported a Mac OS.10.5., a Mac OS.10.6 and a Mac OS.10.7.X .

  • Employee at the Genuis Bar told me to get pci-express firewire 800 card

told me any card would work in my new.......well it WAS new till they announced upgrade, 2x3ghz quadcore xeon.
I want to add another firewire 800 bus since I have the AJAHD hooked to the existing bus.
So I went to Fry's and got the "PCI-express firewire 800/1394b controller card 3 ports".
put it into one of the empty slots, rebooted, and got nothing, just some dull chimes, that don't stop.
it fit within my macpro, but it was a lot shorter than the SATA card, that had no problems.
So I guess I need to know exactly what type of firewire 800 card to I have to get.

I installed 1 of these in an 8 core OS 10.4.11 FCp 6.0.2 QT 7.3.1 dedicated to io HD
don't recall a driver disk for mac, however I rarely if ever use the supplied driver disk for anything anymore 'cause it's almost always out of date. go to mfg site and get drivers etc.
this is the first link I saw googling siig
    http://www.smalldog.com/product/42566/atfgc
by the way it worked great. needs a 1 lane slot. you'll need to check expansion slot utility. typically goes in slot above gfx card or slot4 (top) slot

  • Firewire CF Card Reader Compatible Please Lexar is NOT!

Just bought a $50 Lexar Firewire Compact Flash reader only to find out it is not supported by Tiger or Lexar for Tiger. It would be nice to get a patch from Apple or a driver from Lexar but I'm not holding my breath. Right now I just want to know if there is another firewire CF card reader that will for sure work on my G4 tower running 10.4.5 Thanks!

Alex - I have the same card reader...it works FINE with my 1G Sandisk Ultra II - BUT Tiger will NOT mount a 2G Lexar card in the same reader....I've exchanged the reader twice and still no joy....WHAT IS UP WITH THIS? I can find nothing on any of the Mac forums here or elswhere and can't believe others are not having a problem...??? any ideas...anyone?

  • Can anyone recommend a good firewire 800 card?

    Hello,
I have a 2003 MDD G4 Dual 1.25 and was wondering if someone can recommend a nice FW800 card for my system. Why am I asking and looking for FW800? Because it is much faster and produces more efficient results. Although, my machine is a FW400, also is there a way to get an adapter which can fit into one of my FW400 and convert it to a FW800? In other words, an adapter which would plug into a FW400 port but on the other end be a FW800 port?

    Hi-
No adapters. FW 400 can be adapted to FW 800 (transfer is still FW 400 speed), but FW 800 cannot be adapted to FW 400 and get FW 800 speed....
The only way is to use a FW800 PCI card.
    Check this one.

  • No Firewire 800 on my PB

    Greetings!
I just purchased a 250GB external hard drive (Iomega Black series) so that I can back up data,etc.. It has one USB 1.1/2.0 port, one Firewire 400 port and 2 Firewire 800 ports. My PB only has 2 USB ports, one Firewire (which I assume is 400 because the PB is about 4 years old), and the obvious Ethernet port, etc.. Is there a way for me to be able to use the Firewire 800 port on the external drive? I'm not too dumb when it comes to computers (upgraded my RAM...), but I'm not a techie either. Any suggestions would be appreciative! Thank you in advance.

    Hi t,
You are correct, you do not have FW800 on a 4 year old PB. You can purchase a PCMCIA to FireWire 800 card (google for it) which will plug into your PC card slot and you'll have a FW800 connection. One example is from LaCie; it has 2 FW800 ports and 1 FW400 and sells for about $75.

  • Firewire 800 & Airport Extreme?

    Hello,
I have a Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver 2002) and I am upgrading some of my internal components. I was curious as the the fact, is it possible to put a third party Firewire 800 card in my machine and run a Airport Extreme card through it? I already have a original Airport card in it, but I am looking for something with wireless g/n capabilities. I know there are third party wireless cards I can buy that will do the same thing but I would just like to know if it is possible to do it this way. Any ideas or suggestions would help!
    Thanks!

The AirPort Extreme card is compatible with a FireWire 800 G4. The combined Bluetooth and AirPort card reference is for the last Power Mac G5 revision.

  • Slow large file transfer speed with LaCie 1T firewire 800 drives

I am transferring two large files (201gb and 95gb) from one LaCie 1T firewire external drives to another one (using separate connections to a PCI Express firewire 800 card in my Quad G5. The transfer time is incredibly slow – over for hours for the 201gb file and over 2 hours for the 95gb file.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is so slow or what I might try to speed up the transfer rates?
    Thank you.

  • Panic when using USB 2 multi card reader

On 2 different intel iMacs, I've got the following error using a USB2 Multi Card Reader (Shows up as a Mass Storage Device under Sys Pref):
    IOUSBMassStorageClass has corrupted the registry
Registry - am I running windoz or something??!?!?!
I've used this multi card reader on my G4 for a long time and never had any problems with it. On these 2 different intel iMac's it often stops importing my photos, and sometimes won't mount my memory stick cards. One one occasion I got the black/gray screen telling me to restart my computer, and that's when I got the message above. Yes, I've tried other memory cards, and a different USB cable... and at times I still loose communication with the card reader.
    Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks!

Hi, is your card reader Mac Intel compatible? which manufacturer?
I would Repair Permissions then Turn Off. Disconnect everything except KB/M
restart - I would run OnyX..then Turn Off, connect all your usb & firewire - including card reader if mac compatible! Restart..L

  • External PC Card reader available?

Anyone know of an external USB or Firewire PC Card reader?

No, but since you're posting in the MacBook Pro discussion area, I would assume you have a MacBook Pro and, therefore, the following should work when it finally ships:

  • FW 800 Card kills FW bus on G4

I tried to install an Allegro Firewire 800 card from Sonnet into my G4 1GHz Dual Processor G4. I put the card in, connected my firewire drive and got the following outcome.
    1. When I re-booted, the computer hung at the blue screen that comes right after the gray screen. It stayed there for a very long time 5+ minutes but finally got through it.
2.When I logged on I found that the firewire ports on the Sonnet card AND also the native FW 400 ports no longer worked.
3.I removed the card, rebooted, and the machine still hung at the blue screen for a long time. It finally got through it, but the FW ports were still dead.
    4. I worked for almost two hours, rebooting, trying to reset the PRAM, although I just got a black screen and no "restart" as is the usual case.
    5. Finally, I unpluggd the machine completely and re-booted one last time and magically, the native FW ports started to work. So now I am back where I started.
Any ideas what is going on here? Should I try to install the card again? I am thinking that it was a mistake to hook the drive up before the machine had a chance to recognize the card, so I am tempted to try again that way, but I am afraid of getting the same results. Or should I just throw the card in the trash basket, call it a $50 loss or be content with FW 400?

  • Can I connect an eSATA card or FireWire 800 to my 2008 MacBook?

I have a late 2008 12" MacBook with a FireWire 400 slot (only).  I am hooking up an 8TB Raid hard drive to it for digitizing, backup and editing on FCP 6 and would like to have a higher speed available than the laptop's FireWire 400 provides.  Is there a way to augment/build out the MacBook to utilize either a FireWire 800 slot or an eSATA EC2 card?  I don't think this version of the MacBook (MacBook4,1) has a PCI or PCIe card slot.  Although I believe it may have a mini-PCIe card somewhere, as the last page of the Users Guide says (under Europe—EU Declaration of Conformity):
"Hereby, Apple Inc. declares that this 802.11a/b/g/n Mini-PCIe card is in compliance with the R&TTE Directive."
    Thanks for any suggestions!

No you would need to get a MacBook Pro to have FireWire 800. The card they are talking about is the Airport card.
