Firewire and Cinema Display 20'

Hi all,
I have a Mac Book Pro connected to a cinema display 20' everything works good except the Firewire connection, even if the display have firewire and USB and are connected to my MBP the firewires is the onlyone that doesn't works at all.
Do you guys have problems with this display on firewire connections?
Thanks!

Hi,
The same thing happened to me recently. At first I thought there's something wrong with my ACD 20". Then I switched to my ACD 23" and the same thing happened. The Firewire drive works if it's plugged directly into my MacBook Pro. That makes me think it's not the displays.
Are you still having that problem?
Thanks.
Eric.

Does anyone know where you can get those cool little flat squareish cable winders that you can stick onto the back of iMac's and Cinema displays.
They look sort of like this sketch

  • Plug in USB or FireWire on Cinema Display and it turns off display power

Just recently, my monitor lost power.  After checking everything, and putting in a new video card, I have discovered that the monitor works, as long as I do not plug in the USB or ForeWire cables on the end of the monitor cord into the Mac Pro.  This is 20" Apple Cinema Display.  Plugging in either one turns off the power to the display.  Unplug them, and it is back on.

Very simular, although your cycle count is higher.

Even though you are out of warrenty they may still have a look at this for you in the store as Apple are renowned for great aftercare .

  • G4 Cube w/ ATI RAGE 128 Pro graphics card and Cinema Display?

I now have a 15" Apple flat panel (M7928ZM/A). Apple used to offer a 22" flat display (M8058ZM/A)for the Cube but I can't find it anywhere. Would a 20" Cinema Display work?
    Thanks.

Probably not, me thinks just update the computer. So you can get the Cinema to work basically because of evolving software and the requirements needed.
    GOOD LUCK

  • DVI KVM switch to use with iMac and Cinema Display

I currently have a 20" iMac that I use with a 20" Cinema Display. I'd like to share the Cinema display between the iMac and a Dell computer. Assuming this can be done, are there any recommendations for a DVI-KVM switch? Most important is no loss in video quality when the Cinema display is used with the iMac. The Dell is seldom used and even a straight DVI switch without mouse and keyboard sharing would be OK.

  • Help with a weird problem: MB Air, Internet, and Cinema Display

I have the first MacBook Air, running the latest Leopard release.
I use an Airport Extreme with Verizon FIOS.
I have no problems connecting with the Internet (knock on wood) on the Air. However, when I use a 23-inch Cinema Display (not the most recent CD) with the Air my Internet connection slows to a crawl, or I can't connect at all. I unplug the CD from the Air, and I can connect to the Internet again quickly.
Any idea what the problem is?
The Air works well with the CD. The only problem is when I use the Air connected to the CD and access the Web.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The Air is plugged in, and all appears to be OK with the Air's power. Same with the Cinema Display. The Air appears to have the power to render properly on the Cinema Display but not enough juice left to engage its built-in wi-fi to access the web? I am at a complete loss on this one. Will be calling Apple support or stopping by the Genius Bar, as I have one other item (different computer) I must deal with.
    Thanks.

  • Is imac and cinema display the same quality monitor?

I'm looking to buy an imac but am really concerned about color quality. I currently have a cinema display and looking at this as a second computer. I've read some posts that suggest that the display technology in the imac is different than the quality of the display of the cinema displays. Yet from looking at the tech specs they appear pretty identical other than the glossy cover. Is this true?

The 24" iMac should have the same image quality as a Cinema Display. The 20" iMac uses an inferior display.

  • Screen savers and cinema displays

I have a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and a cinema display in support. How do I get my laptop screen saver to also repeat and appear on the cinema display as well? Managed it before, but since upgrading OS, I can't seem to figure it anymore. Thanks for your help.

It may or may not be a common problem, since I screen share a 2-screen Mac Pro from a MacBook Pro and have not seen this problem. I always get both screens.

  • Magic Mouse and Cinema displays

I'm experiencing the weirdest thing when using Magic Mouse with my MBP and Cinema HD 30" (or a Cinema 23" for that matter). The problem is that the tracking becomes very erratic when the Cinema display is connected to the MBP.
When using the Magic Mouse with the Cinema disconnected the mouse works just fine.
Obviously there's nothing wrong with the Magic Mouse or the bluetooth signal. What could cause this behaviour?
Anyone else experiencing this? Please advice. Thanks.

OK. I finally pin-pointed the exact problem. After blaming TextExpander, and other software, and essentially pulling out my hair, I've found the reason my mouse is stuttering across my screen. I know how it's happening, but I don't know why.
So I solved my issue by... moving my MBP closer to my mouse. My issues started when I move my MBP just 12 inches back, and 12 inches down, to rest on the seat of the booth (table) I use as my desk in my kitchen. For whatever reason, moving it back and down caused issues with my mouse. The table is wood, so there doesn't seem to be an issue with BT signal going through an object, and I thought BT was good for 30 feet anyway, and is not line of sight.
So for fun, last night I closed my lid, and put the MBP on the table, just under my display, and less than 2 feet from my magic mouse. Instantly my mouse was moving perfect. Then, I said, why don't I move my MBP back down where it was and try again... stuttering, jerky mouse. Moved the MBP back, good as gold. Why this is happening is troubleshooting nightmare I don't even want to think about. So although I can keep my MBP right there, I think I'm gonna buy the BookArc, made by Twelve South. This way I can vertically stand up my MBP and put it behind my display out of the way, and have easier access to my cables.
I've owned Macs since '05, and this is by far the strangest thing I've ever encountered. Maybe my BT antenna is weak? Maybe the table blocks the signal? Who knows, but I've spent probably 20 hours of my time trying to figure what the problem could be.
I don't know if this would work for others, but this is a 100% solution for me. I again have a precision pointing device. It only cost me a Magic Trackpad and a wired Apple mouse to figure it out:( But I can't wait to try the Magic Trackpad... and probably going to return the wired mouse to Best Buy.
If anything crazy happens again, and this solution stops working... I'll be back, as some actor turned governor said.

  • PowerBooks and Cinema Displays

I should know the answer to this but...Can the PB be used with the Cinema display only and with the lid closed?

I thought about that but the truth is the PB actually stays cooler with the lid shut. I've been watching it closely. It's kind of like the question about whether or not your refridgerator light goes off when you shut the door. When the lid gets closed the processor goes to sleep. Clicking the mouse wakes up the Cinema display and my obvious assumption is that the PB display is off while the lid is closed. This seems to cut down on the heat build up. I also use a Targus Podium Coolpad to elevate the back end of the PB and it stays very cool.
The only glitch I've had with the lid closed is that my Airport connection also shuts off. So I use my Airport Express to convert back to hardwire and re-connect to my Ethernet port. That way I can stay connected and I also reduce heat build up by not running the Airport card inside the PB.
Having said all that I also agree using both monitors is very handy.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Color with Macbook Pro 15 inch and Cinema Display

    Hi Guys,
    Had a quick question.
Do you think if i got the New Cinema Displays and connected it to my MBP 15 it would work?
Because it states color cant work great with my macbook pro screen. So if i hook up the Display would that work or does it depend on the video card in my MBP?
Hope i explained my self good.
Thanks in advance for your help.

To add to Mr. Owens response, sure, it may boot as a second screen but then you need a dedicated input/output device and proper production/broadcasting/grade monitor to actually see what you're doing. How will you achieve this with your rig?

  • Trying to calibrate 17" screen AND Cinema Display 20"; 17" is way off

I've just bought an Apple Cinema display and calibrated it using Eye One software and calibration device. The color on the 20" seems accurate. When I create a profile on the PB the resulting color in NO WAY matches the 20" Display. I would have thought a calibration device would see the difference in color each display emits and produce a "neutral" profile. I know the PB display will have less luminosity and contrast, but the colors are so much warmer, redder.
I wonder if I should just do it by eye -- as all I really want is for them to be close (and us the 20" for photo retouching...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

It can be very difficult to get an LCD monitor screen to match an LCD notebook screen because they are, in many ways, like cats and dogs. Because of the need to run for a reasonable amount of time from a battery, a notebook display has to be a low power device. They typically operate at less than 10 watts. Lacking that restriction, a desktop monitor can have more backlights, brighter backlights and thicker color filter material, which results in extended color gamut, compared with a notebook screen. So trying to make two such devices color match can be a fruitless exercise. I like your idea of eyeballing it. Ironically, you might get a better result than a color calibrator.

  • Can`t fully connect Macbook Pro and Cinema Display!!

Hello. I recieved yesterday a Macbook Pro 15 and a Cinema Display 27. When I connected them the weirdest thing happens: the display turns on and off along with the Macbook, and the screen savers are the same in both, and when I move the cursor it moves in the Display, but except this nothing else shows me that there is a connection between them. All that appears in the Display is the original wallpaper, not a single icon or anything else.
    What can be happening.
    Thank you.
    Sebastian.

It sounds like you're not using the mirror display setting, so you're seeing the extended desktop on the external display, which is the default setting by the way.
Also note: the external connection won't be maintained if the MacBook is on battery power only.
