Firewire and Data Transfer

I'll be purchasing the new Mini and had 2 questions. 1- is the file/data transfer migration program a good one? I have lots of info I need transfered and I am concerned everything will be moved correctly. 2- The firewire port on the new Mini is 800. After I purchase an adaptor - 800 to 400 - I have a bunch of external HDs (all self-powered) - is it okay to simply daisy-chain them or should I purchase a firewire hub?
Thank you.
Rich Green

hub or daisy-chain
I would always tend to recommend a hub in this situation if it is viable, since this eliminates potential FW conflicts, and can resolve odd issues which daisy chains can cause. However, there is nothing wrong with experimenting - if you have the FW devices, I'd try the daisy chain first since it doesn't cost anything. If there are any signs of issues (devices not accessible or 'dropping out' of the chain, then you know to get a hub and try again.

    Hi guys,
Please some bosy help me out by providing the differences between Transformation and Data Transfer Process.
    thanks in adwance
    omkar

    Hi Omkar,
Trnasformations providing the mapping between Sorce fields( datasource to  data target).  only map the structures..
    <b>Transformations:</b>----
-->Trsnsformations are used to create mappings between two BI Objects and to
transform data from BI Source(From where) to BI Target .
-->You can create One-One Mappings between source and target in BI
-->In transformations Source is : DataSource, InfoSource, DataStore object,
    InfoCube, InfoObject and InfoSet
-->Target is: InfoSource, InfoObject, DataStore object and InfoCube.
-->Transformations replaces the transfer and update rules. It's like creating transfer
rules and update rules.Through these rules/mappings/transformations, the
system is going to transform data from Source to Target.
but DTP  means.. the data loading procedure will be  done with this step..
    <b>DTP :</b>
DTP is used to transfer data from PSA to the infoprovider.
The data transfer process can also be used to control data distribution from a BI system into any target outside of the BI system. For this purpose, a data transfer process with an open hub destination is used as the target.
Since Deltas are now based on request from PSA ,you can have multiple datatargets pulling data with same selection criteria from same datasource(ECC) with INITS/DELTA,not possible earlier.

  • 575 LRE and data transfer problems

575 LRE and data transfer problems
    Hello,
I have a connection from my provider using the Cisco 575 LRE, configured for 10 Mbit/s. I don't know the make and model of the switch but I assume it is likely a Cisco device also.
I'm experiencing problems with the LRE connection whenever big files are being transfered simultaneously in both down- and upstream directions to/from a PC. The data transfer may slow down to a stall and all WAN connectivity may become momentarily blocked. Transfer speeds and reliability always seem good as long as big files don't get transferred in both directions at the same time.
What could cause this problem? My service provider says that they see no problems in their end and they are unable to help me. I don't know how extensively they have looked into any possibility of problems though.
I've tried different 100Mbit network cards, replacing ethernet and phone cabling and changing duplex settings and MTU, but nothing has completely solved the problem so far. Forcing network cards to full-duplex does prevent the worst slowdown and hanging described above, but limits upload speed to around half of the maximum available.
Not sure if this is meaningful here, but my service provider claims they have the switch my CPE is connected to configured for full-duplex, but when I have a PC network card set to autonegotiation, it will always result in a 100baseTX half-duplex link with the 575 - this is the case where I get maximum speed in either one direction but also the mentioned problems with bi-directional transfer.
I don't know what more I can do to the PCs here to solve this problem and I don't have access to configuring the CPE device, because I don't own the switch it is connected to. I can only think of trying to ask my ISP to read this thread if someone has a possible solution that requires actions on their behalf.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The problem, as you describe it, is most likely cabling ...it could be the cable between your PC(s) and the 575 (most likely), or between the 575 and the switch.
What you are seeing are the effects of crosstalk (signal from one pair interfereing with the other pair), that's why you see it in full-duplex mode and not (so much) in half-duplex (with half-duplex, only one side talks at a time).
The only part you would be likely be able to change would be the connections on your side of the 575 ... so, try another cable; preferably a store-bought cable and in good shape (twisted, crushed, kinked, stretched, and poorly constructed cables are a Very Bad Thing).
LRE was designed to handle voice-grade cabling, but if you're at near the extreme length, you may see some degradation.
    Good Luck

  • Problems with Photoshop performance and data transfer speed on iMac

Two months ago, I started noticing slow performances using Photoshop (above all using clone stamp tool) on my 27" iMac (late 2012). I did the AHT and I found that 8GB of 32GB RAM were broken.
I removed them but the problem didn't disappered, I also noticed that data transfer speed (both copy and paste from/to internal HD and from CF card/external HD) was really slow.
I tried many solutions suggested by Apple support, none of them worked out. At the end, I tried uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop: no more problems!!!
10 days ago, I received a new 8GB RAM module and so I installed it back... suddenly, the problem came back, I tried re-installing again Photoshop but the problem, this time, still persist!
Does anyone had the same experience? All other CC programs work well (LR, AE, Premiere...)

    yes, it does!
what seems to be very strange to me is how data trasnfer speed could be affected!
(just to say, I've already tried reset of SMC and PRAM, I've tried with different accounts and I've also re-installed the OS, next step would be formatting the disk and installing the OS from zero)

  • What is the difference between copy requirement and data transfer routines

    Hi Experts,
I am writing a copy control routine for maintainence quote
from sales quote.Where do i have to write it in VOFM?
Is it in copying requirements or data transfer.
Actually according to the business all the line items from the sales quote are copied
into the maintainence quote and additional line items are added into maintainence quote
and the line items copied from the source document are linked to the two newly added
    line items.
    Please advise.
And is it possible to add the 2 new line items to the new document into VBAP at the runtime?
    Regards,
    Chitrasen

First of all you have to have a link between the sales documents. You can check it in Tcode: VTAA. if not, talk to your functional people. Try to make this equal to quote to order but instead make it quote to quote.
You need to put break point in copy requirement as well as in data transfers and check for your requirement.
Well, the code you want to put in will be the requirement
I am not sure if you can add 2 line items runtime into quote. this has to go through different checks and i dont think it is possible.
    Good luck

  • Question: New Hard Drive and Data Transfer Kit Device

Yep, I go another HDD this time for my lil Compaq Persario 700 series notebook OS Win XP. I bought a DriveWire Univeral Adapter & Data Transfer Kit. I want to know if there would be any issue transferring my iTunes Library to my new HDD? I do have some music apart of my iTunes Library that's DRM protected. Should still deactivate my account during the transfer . . . that is, if it's possible. Thank you for any assistance your can give me. Itunes 10 by the way.

From what you posted, you should be able to set the itunes media folder location to the exHD and then run the ituens consolidate library command.
That will put your itunes library content onto the exHD.
    Here's Apple's article on that
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364
Pay attention to this note from it
+Note: If you move your library to an external drive, you'll need to power up and connect the drive before starting iTunes. If you don't, iTunes will prompt you to either locate the library or to create a new library (which will result in an empty library). No matter what, it's always a good idea to have a backup of the media you have in iTunes.+
That means you MUST have the exHD connected BEFORe starting itunes. WHat it doesn't mention is, it always needs to have the same drive letter. WIndows can change USB port drive letter without telling you it's doing it. Best practice, is to assign a permanent drive letter such as m: for Media. You can assign drive letters using windows disk manager.
There's no need to deactivate any account during this procedure - why do you think you should?

  • T440S to T440s - program and data transfer, OS licensing issue

    Hi,
Obviously not able to open these critters up. I have a new T440s that I would like to transfer my programs and data to.  Is there a program out there that can do this without having to pull out the hard drive to image?
My current one has Windows 8.1. The new one has Windows 7 with the Windows 8.1 recovery discs.  Issue is, I believe that the Windows license is tied to the hardware?  Therefore I would have to make a recovery disc set of Windows 7.....then use the Windows 8.1 recovery discs then move my programs and data over.
Windows Easy Transfer does not look like it can do the best job.
I thought about bringing it to the store for them to swap the drives but then worried alot about the whole licensing issue.  (not to mention the possible loss of my warranty) Unless if it is done professional and the license could be stripped out of the existing drive and new drive moved to new machine....perhaps a way to get the license keys from the new system somehow.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello.
If you look at the bottom of the machines, and they both have the Windows 8 sticker, your machines are licenced and the product key is embedded in the BIOS.
You can use this program: ProduKey to view and write down your keys, but if you use either the Recovery disks or a WIndows 8 Pro retail DVD to reinstall Windows, your key will be picked up automatically by the installation.
For migration of your files, programs and settings, you could simply clone your current WIndows 8.1 installation onto the new drive using, assuming your installation is UEFI and thus your HD is GPT partitioned, Macrium Reflect, which many users here have had a good experience with. That would save you time from having to reinstall Windows on the new machine as well and all you'd have to do is to enter the embedded Windows key of your new machine to activate it.
    Macrium Reflect
That's at least one suggestion, but there are many ways to go about this.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers!

  • About eCATT and Data Transfer

    Hi,
        I have a confusion.
Can I consider eCATT as a standard data transfer tool. What may its greater advantage be?
      Thank you

SAP CATT - Computer Aided Test Tool
Just sharing my experiences with CATT (although, I have not used this feature in the last 2 years or so !).
Simply, any one in SAP can use this tool as long as you can access to the tcode. I used CATT atleast in 3 different SAP modules. Typically, in SAP projects, CATT execution is a favorite task for "technical" associates. When the technical resources are either not available immediately or their plate is full with other important tasks, functional associates can simply jump into this activity, since there is no coding or programming involved. This tool has been a great gift from SAP since I am a functional person and could not do coding ! I can remember at least 30 or 40 occassions where I used CATT to get this and that done.
    Below find few examples:
    1. Created multiple sales orders (excess of 200) in a matter of minutes for the purpose of end user training
    2. Created multiple purchase ordes (excess of 200) in a matter of minutes for the purpose of end user training
    3. Created Deliveries for the sales orders in a matter of minutes for the purpose of end user training
    4. Created config. entires, if the volume of records is large. I remember once I entered 900 records.
    5. Extensively used in preparing the transactional data for the purpose of archiving. It worked impeccably.
    6. Loading of master data (example: material groups)
Note: Upon execution of CATT, it is very possible that some records will fail, which have to be addressed manually. SAP really needs to further enhance this area of CATT because, there is no easy way of identifying the failed ones, it has to be done manually. One workaround is simply download the result into an Excel and using sort feature of Excel, identify the failed ones and deal with them manually.
    With Compliment by: Ranga Rachapudi
CATT stands 4 Computer Aided Testing Tool
Although CATT is meant for as a testing tools, many SAP users have now use CATT frequently to upload vendors master data and make changes to other master record.
SAP Consultant and Abapers tends to used it for creating test data.
With CATT, you don't have to create any ABAP upload programs and this save on development time. However, you still have to spend time on data mapping into the spreadsheet format.
The transactions run without user interaction. You can check system messages and test database changes. All tests are logged.
What CATT does is record you performing the actual transaction once.
You then identify the fields that you wish to change in that view.
Then export this data to a spreadsheet to populate with the data required.
This is uploaded and executed saving you keying in the data manually.
To perform CATT, it has to be enabled in your production environment (your systems administrator should be able to do this - SCC4).
You will also need access to your development system to create the CATT script.
    User Guide for Data Upload
The use of CATT is for bulk uploading of data. Although CATT is primarily a testing tool, it can be used for the mass upload of data. The way CATT works is like a real user actually inputting on the SAP screen. You prepare a set of data that are required to be input into the system and execute what you called a Test Case and CATT will do the boring task of keying for you.
    Over-all procedure
The over-all procedure to upload data using CATT is as follows:
    · Creation of the CATT test case & recording the sample data input.
    · Download of the source file template.
    · Modification of the source file.
    · Upload of the data from the source file.
Details of each step are provided in the following paragraphs.
    Detailed Procedure
Creation of the CATT test case:
Creation of the test case is completed as follows:
    · Execute Transaction SCAT
    · Name the test case. Test case name must start with “Z”. It is also good practise to include the transaction code in
the test case name (e.g. Z_IE01_UPLOAD for the upload of equipment)
    · Click the “Record” button.
    · Enter the transaction code (e.g. IE01)
    · Continue recording the transaction. Ensure data is entered into every field that is to be used during the upload.
    · Save the test case.
    Download the source file template
Download of source file template is conducted in two stages as follows:
    · Creation of import parameters:
    · Within transaction SCAT, Double Click on the TCD line in the “Maintain Functions” screen.
    · Click the Field List button (Field list is displayed).
    · For every field that you wish to upload data, double click in the Column New field contents (This creates an
    import parameter).
    · In the Maintain Import Parameter Pop-Up:
    · Delete the default value if not required.
    · Press Enter
    · The New field contents column now contains the character & followed by the field name (e.g. &EQART). This
is the name of the import parameter.
    · Repeat this for every field (in every screen) to be uploaded.
    · Back out and save the CATT test case
    · Download of source file template:
    · Use the path GOTO -> Variants -> Export Default
    · Select path and file name (e.g. C:TEMPZ_IE01_UPLOAD.TXT)
    · Click Transfer
    Modify the source file
The downloaded source file template is now populated with the data that is to be uploaded. This is completed as follows:
    · Using Excel, open the tab-delimited text file.
    · Do not change any of the entries that already exist.
1st row contains the field names.
2nd row contains the field descriptions.
3rd row displays the default values which are set in the test case.
4th row contains a warning that changing the default values in the spreadsheet has no effect on the actual default values.
    · The data to be uploaded can be entered in the spreadsheet from row 4 onwards (delete the 4th row warning &
    replace with data for upload).
    · Save the file as a Text file (Tab delimited).
Upload data from the source file
Uploading the data is completed as follows:
    · Execute the CATT test case
    · In the Execute screen:
    · Set processing mode to Errors or Background (your choice).
    · Set variants to External from file.
    · Click the Choose button and select the file to be uploaded.
    · If uploading to another client, click the Remote execution button and select the RFC connection to the required client.
    · If uploading to the current client, click the execute button.

  • Backup and data transfer from old to new iphone

I recently upgraded to the iphone 5s from iphone 4 and need to backup and transfer data from old phone to the new phone.  I want to backup using itunes rather than using icloud.  Do I need to disable icloud backup on the old phone before I start the backup process.  Do I need to disable anything on my computer (icloud).  I am using Windows Vista and Itunes Version 10.7.  Would appreciate step by step instructions for backup and transfer..  I am not computer or iphone saavy and don't want to mess things up.

If you backup with iTunes and you restored from the backup and the data are gone, then there is no where to retrieve them from unless you have another backup that contains those data.
Launch iTunes on the computer and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices. You will see a window with all of your backups listed in it.
If you see a recent backup that you are certain contains the data that you need, recover deleted data from iPhone backup.
If your note is gone from iCloud.com there is only a few ways to possibly recover it.
The first things I would check is a iCloud Backup, a iTunes Backup, or a 3rd party email that may have contained the note. To restore from a iCloud or iTunes backup follow this link. This article explains how to restore a device from either back up.
Note if you have backed up since the note went missing, you will not have the note on the backup. Make sure you do not back up if trying to restore from a back up as this will back up the content without the note.
To get to the "Set up assistant" on an iOS device, you must go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. Once the phone restarts, you will be at the "Set up Assistant"

  • LabView DSC, RSLinx, SLC505 and Data transfer (Best way for large blocks of data?)

I am currently programming in Labview 6.1 with the Datalogging and
Supervisory Control module to transfer 720 floating point numbers to a
SLC505 Allen Bradley PLC (with ethernet) using RSLinx as an OPC server. I
have found that using the Datasocket Write takes about 30 - 40 seconds, and
making the tags and writing to them takes about the same amount of time. Is
it possible to transfer this data faster?
    Thanks,
    Michael Thomson (Surcher)

    Cyril,
I was just experimenting with different ways to transfer the data from the
computer to the PLC. In the past I have built large tag databases with
specific tag names. This made the code rather cumbersome when you wanted to
write to a large group of tags with descriptive names. I was just using
datasocket write as a way to transfer the data to the plc using code to
build the url and without having the DSC engine running. I have found that
importing the tags right from the tag configuration editor with the names
being simply the PLC addresses and then accessing them with the tag write is
considerably faster (under 5 seconds). I can then build the names in an
embedded for/next loop and change them to a tag name before I write to each
    one. The appli
cation is a user interface that allows the machine operator
to pick what kind of arch to put on cabinet door part. With the selections
chosen I calculate the servo moves and download the data to the PLC.
    Thanks for the link!

  • Regarding Transformation and Data Transfer Process(DTP)

    Dear Gurus
    1) Transformation replaces the transfer rule and update rule.
    2) DTP replaces the info package.
Hencse, there is a some advantages are there in Transformation and DTP.
    I couldn't understand in help.sap.com.
Could you please tell me in simple language what all are the new features are there in Transformation and DTP which is not possible in Transfer rule, Update rule and infopackage.
    Thanks and Regards
    Raja

    Hi Raja,
These are the advantages of DTP and Transformation over their predecessors.
DTP:1)Improved transparency of staging processes across data warehouselayers (PSA, DWH layer, ODS layer, Architected Data Marts)
    2)Improved performance:Intrinsic parallelism
3)Separation of delta mechanism for different data targets: delta capability is controlled by the DTP
    4)Enhanced filtering in data flow
5)Repair modes based on temporary buffers (buffers keep complete set of data)
Transformation:   SAP NetWeaver2004s significantly improves transformation capabilities. The improved graphical UI contributes to decrease TCO.
1)Transformation Improved performance, flexibility and usability
    2)Graphical UI
3)Unification and simplification of transfer and update rules
    4)New rule type: end routine
5)New rule type: expert routine (pure coding of transformation)
6)Unit Conversion Capabilities for unit conversion during data load (and reporting)
Assign points if it is helpful.

  • Brand New iBook + FireWire, no  Data Transfer

Using Startup Assistant, I tried to transfer data from my old PowerMac G4 (10.3.9), but it doesn't restart as required while holding down the "T" key -- it goes thru the regular start-up process instead. Also tried alternative FireWire. Does a firewall or lack thereof on the old computer matter? Need the data!

elf, Welcome to the discussion area!
Which Power Mac G4 do you have? Is it compatible with FireWire target disk mode?

  • File and data transfer

I am going to purchase a new MacPro and would like to transfer all my files and apps from my early '08 iMac (OS 10.6.6) The problem is that I have to sell the iMac before I get the MacPro to have enough money. What's the best way to ensure I get all the files copied off.
I have a 1TB OWC external HD that I use for Time Machine and believe that when I get the new MacPro I can load from that but just want to make sure that EVERYTHING from the iMac gets transferred (Logic and ProTools licenses, third party software, etc).
If I delete all the Time Machine backups and make one more final backup before I sell the iMac will that be sufficient? I want to ensure that after I set the MacPro up when I turn it on for the first time it looks just like the iMac.
    Thanks.

Why would you delete your existing time machine backups?
Hard drives are cheap. Leave your time machine backups alone, get another external drive and use something like SuperDuper to clone it to the second drive.
Now you can restore from your TimeMachine backup, or the clone (I would use the clone since it would be faster).
Having two copies of your data is good in case something happens with one of your backups. Especially since you are going to sell your computer before you get a chance to really test your backup.
Heck, if I was you I would be making two clone in addition to the Time Machine backup - just because I'm paranoid Loosing files stinks...

  • Step by step guide to create a RFC connection and data transfer

    hi
could i get a step by step guide to transfer/read data from SAP and legacy system using the concept of RFC.
    Regards
    Shiva

    hi
    Here are the steps.
SM59 Transaction is used for Connection Establishment with Destination.
When you establish a connection to a client through a destination, the HTTP connection must first be entered in transaction SM59.
There are two types of HTTP connection in transaction SM59: Call transaction SM59 to display the different RFC destinations.
The HTTP connection to the external server (connection type G) and the HTTP connection to the R/3 system (connection type H) are different only in their logon procedures. Their technical settings are the same. To display the technical settings, double-click a connection.
You can choose from three tabs. Under Technical Settings, you can specify the following:
    · Target Host: The host to which you want to connect.
Note that if you are using HTTPS as a protocol, you have to specify the full host name (with domain).
    · Service No.: Here, you specify the port. The destination host must of course be configured in such a way that the specified port “understands” the corresponding protocol (HTTP or HTTPS). See Parameterizing the ICM and the ICM Server Cache.
    · Path Prefix: At the time when the connection to this destination is initiated, the system inserts this sub-path before ~request_uri.
    · HTTP Proxy Options: Here, you can configure a proxy for HTTP connections: You can determine the proxy host and service, as well as users and passwords for the HTTP connection.
The tab page Logon/Security will be different depending on whether you have selected a HTTP connection to an external server (connection type G) or a HTTP connection to an R/3 system (connection type H).
HTTP Connection to an External Server (Connection Type G)
Choose the connection you want to use. You can choose from the following logon procedures:
    · No Logon: The server program does not request a user or password.
    · Basic Authentication: The server program requests a user and password. Basic Authentication is a standard HTTP method for authenticating users. When a user logs on to the target system, he or she provides a user ID and password as authentication. This information is then sent in a header variable as a Base 64-encoded string to the server, through the HTTP connection.
    · SSL Client Certificate: If you use client certificates for authentication, the client authentication is performed through the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. In this case, you must also select the SSL Client PSE of the SAP Web AS that contains the relevant certificate for the authentication. The target system must handle the issuer of the SAP Web AS client certificate as a trusted system.
Under Logon/Security, you can also activate SSL to ensure that HTTPS is the protocol used (if you select SSL, make sure that the correct port is entered under Technical Settings). In the security transaction STRUST you can determine which type of SSL client is used. (Getting Started with the Trust Manager, Trust Manager).
The field Authorization for Destination has been implemented as an additional level of protection. We recommend that you specify a user and password for the RFC destination.
HTTP Connection to an R/3 System (Connection Type H)
Here, you can specify more settings for authentication in the target system.
The settings under Technical Settings and Special Options are the same as for connection type G. Under Logon/Security, the connection type H has additional logon procedures. As with external servers, you can activate and deactivate SSL and specify an authorization.
Because the target system is an SAP system, you can set the client and language for the logon as well as the user name and password. If you check Current User, you have to specify the password.
The following authentication procedures are available: Basic Authentication, SAP Standard, and SAP Trusted System, and SSL Client Certificate.
    · HTTP Basic Authentication: Logon with user and password
    · SAP Standard: This procedure uses an RFC logon procedure. The RFC Single Sign-On (SSO) procedure is valid within the one system. The same SAP user (client, language, and user name) is used for logon.
    · SAP Trusted System: Trusted RFC logon to a different SAP system (see Trusted System: Maintaining Trust Relationships Between SAP Systems)).
    · SSL Client Certificate: The SSL protocol enables you to use client certificates for the logon.
    Type G/H (SM59)
    Timeout:
When sending a HTTP request, you can use this parameter to specify the maximum response time for the connection.
    HTTP Setting:
You can use the HTTP version to specify the protocol version of the HTTP request (HTTP 1.0 or 1.1).
    Compression:
You can use this option to activate the gzip compression for the request body. This can only be activated in HTTP Version 1.1.
    Compressed Response:
In the standard setting, the SAP Web Application Server sends the Accept Encoding field as a header field with the value gzip, if the application server can handle this compression. This notifies the partner that the caller can handle gzip decompression, and that the partner can send compressed data. If you want to prevent a compressed response being sent, choose the option No.
    HTTP Cookie:
You can use this option to control the way received cookies are handled.
You can specify the following for cookies:
    · Accept them automatically
    · Reject them automatically
    · Accept or reject them in a prompt
    · Use a handler for the event IF_HTTP_CLIENT~EVENTKIND_HANDLE_COOKIE to process the cookies in the program.
    · In the next section, you can read about the parallelization of requests.
