hello, i would like to find a cable to go from my canon 60d camera to the firewire port. i have been to numerous places and they do not have it. i could not find it at canon as well. any help would be great.

Which firewire cable for new MacBook Pro and Canon HV20?

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and want to transfer video from my Canon HV20 camcorder (using FinalCut Express). The Canon instructions say to use a "DV cable" and I've learned that the MacBook Pro only has an "800 fire wire" port. Can someone give me the exact type of cable that I should get (even my local Apple Store couldn't help me).

I'm surprised that the folks at the Apple Store couldn't guide you. You just need a firewire cable with the proper fw400 connector on one end and a fw800 connector on the other. Here's one source for both cables and adapters:

Which FireWire Cable for Macbook Pro to Macbook Pro Migration Assistant?

I've just purchased a new Macbook Pro 15" (standard - not retina display) and am planning to transfer my files via the Migration Assistant. My question is, I currently have a mid 2009 macbook pro (2.8GHz, 4GB) and was wondering which firewire cable I need to purchase - there are so many different types!

No FireWire cable for Target Disk Mode

I have an original MacBook1,1 running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. It will not start up, I have tried everything on this Apple web page , Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup, besides an erase and reinstall and I don't know what to do. It won't read the Snow Leopard update disk (My other two Macs do). When I restart In Verbose Mode, it always stops right after 'Airport: RSN handshake complete on en1'. When i started my other Mac in Verbose Mode, after 'Airport: RSN handshake complete on en1', it went straight to the login window. I called Apple support and they said that I need to perform an erase and reinstall but first I need to get an install disk for Mac OS X Tiger 10.4. and get some things off using Target Disk Mode. I do not have a FireWire cable and do not want to have to go and buy one. I have an Ethernet cable and a male - male USB cord. The two other Macs that I have are an iMac7,1 running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and a MacBook6,1 running Mavericks 10.9.4. If you have any solutions for fixing it without the erase, or just a way to get my info off of it, please help.

The USB cable won't be useful in that situation, and the Ethernet one will only help if you have access to a computer running Mac OS X Server. Get a FireWire cable.

Firewire Cable (for target disk mode)

Hi all,
I'm using a Late 2010 27" i5 iMac and a Late 2009 15" MacBook Pro. I'm going to reformat and reinstall the iMac this weekend but need to grab all my Music/Documents (you know the drill) from it. Last time I did this, I did it over a 100mbps network, needless to say it was absolutely horribly slow. So, today I'm going to pick up a cheap-ish firewire cable and target my laptop as a disk using target disk mode.
Which type of Firewire cable do I need to buy? It's either a 4-pin or 6-pin choice, no 9-pins available at the shop I intend to visit. I have no idea what the difference is between them - hardware is definitely not my game.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Just verified the specs for these two in MacTracker just to be sure. Yes, both are FW800. So you need a 9-pin to 9-pin FW cable (like these)

There is only one FW800 cable type used by your MP. It's a 9-pin nearly square connector. If you have a cable with a 6-pin rectangular shaped connector, then that is a FW400 cable.

Hi, pasteurization. If the FireWire port on your Powerbook no longer works, you can buy a relatively inexpensive CardBus adapter that will provide a FireWire port or ports and spare you the high cost of replacing your logic board. Here is one example — there are many others on the market:

Can you buy firewire cable for usb external?

i recently bought an Iomega external HDD for time machine, it's a usb based drive, i really regret it because it's so slow. Could i just buy a firewire cable and use it on the drive so it can go faster?

I've got four external FireWire 800 drives attached to my G5 tower. I installed a second FireWire PCI Express Card on the G5. They pretty much rip over the USB 2.0 I had before.
Only comment I have is that if you use Time Machine and a FireWire 800 drive, make sure that it is connected directly to a Mac FireWire 800 port and not daisy chained to any other device. If it is daisy chained, you may get one of two issues - a very very very slow initial backup with a potential failure to backup. I learned the hard way and when I direct connected my backup drive to its own port, it cut the initial backup time by 75 percent and did not fail.
I use my Mac for my work and have a lot of applications and data so it took about five hours to run the initial back up. Without the direct connect, it ran for about 26 hours and failed near the end of the attempt.
Just one man's experience, hope this helps.

Firewire Cable for TiBook to iMac 450 DV

I need to connect my TiBook G4 867mHz to my iMac G3 450DV via firewire to run Disk Warrior on the iMac as it is not wanting to read the CD. The Powerbook reads it fine. The TiBook is running Tiger and the iMac is running Panther. I know what I need to do with Target and Host, the only thing I don't know is what kind of firewire cable, exactly, must I use to connect these two machines?
Would anyone happen to know how many pin to pin, male/female, etc. I need?

I need a firewire cable for my mac

I have a JVC camcoder. I need to download my videos into my iMac. I had a firewire cable from many years ago back when it was firewire 1 I think. It does not seem to want to fit the firewire connection on this new Imac (mid 2010).
I have searched the internet, but Im coming up empty. Anyone know where I can find a Firewire cable? The end that goes into the camcorder is a mini DV. I think this is the right model.

Your Mid 2010 iMac has a FireWire 800 9-pin connector rather than the FireWire 400 6-pin connector that your older system had. Here's an example of the cable that your system probably needs. You can compare the pictures from the link to confirm.

Alternative to the firewire cable for macbooks

I was wondering if there was some sort of alternative to firewire for uploading film footage? My macbook does not have a port to plug in firewire. I know that USB can be used instead but that this can lower the quality. Is there another way that you can upload footage without lowering the quality but using a usb cable?

Anyway, the transfer protocol isn't what determines video quality, it's the camera. The new video cameras that use USB are not true DV as they use a compression algorithm. Comparing compressed video to DV is much like comparing a CD quality audio file (44.1kHz 16-bit) to it's mp3 counterpart. Acceptable? For most consumers the answer is probably yes. However, the video degrades quickly if you have to change file formats or compress it more for a smaller file size. The compressed format is why the new camers can use SD type memory cards instead of digital tape.

When transferring many small files, USB 2.0 is as fast if not faster than Firewire 400, when transferring several files over 30MB(approx) Firewire 400 is faster. Files do not have to be broken up into packets and reassembled on the other end.

Hi. Have an old 2010 macbook pro 13" running OS 10.6.8. Have a friewire 800 port. Firewire cable for sync

I have classic ( 1 st generation ) iPhone for the last couple of years. Few weeks back my regular charging/sync pin ( at the bootom of the iPhone stopped working). Aftre chacking with Apple i found that only the Firewire pins will work and regular pins where damaged. So I got fire wire Charger cable from Amazon and it is charging fine. but the problem is with synching / connecting to my PC. I can now only use Fire wire cable with my iPhone and my PC / Laptop dont have fire wire port. so is there any firewire to usb cable availble in the market? That is I must have firewire end that I can connect to iPhone and USB emnd that I can connect to my PC. I searched thru the net and it is confusing . can any one help moe out please?

If I remember correctly, the original iPhone allows charging over FireWire or USB but only allows syncing over USB. Subsequent iPhone models removed the charging over FireWire capability. Some older iPods have this capability too.
Apple used to sell a cable that had two cables coming from the dock connector, one for FireWire and one for USB. The idea that you could charge with FireWire and sync with USB simultaneously. I have one of these cables.

What type of firewire cable for 2006 iMac?

I asked at Best Buy and they gave me 4pin, didn't work. I looked online and got 9 pin, it fits the MBPro we're trying to connect the iMac to but not the iMac. So I know I need a 9pin for the MBPro but what should the other end be? Everything I saw online said 9 pin but its clearly not even the right shape to fit the port on the back of my computer... FWIW, I'm trying to connect to the MBPro so we can boot from their HD and install a new OS on our computer becuase the cd rom drive on mine is broken.
