Firewire CF Cardreader to P.S.4 Elements

I can find no information on how to down load images from my Canon S50 using a Lexar Firewire CF Card reader to Photoshop Elements 4 on my 24"imac running 10.5.2. All the instructions deal with a direct USB to camera connection? I have multiple GB of images that need to be imported.
As this is my first experience with Elements, do I need to import my RAW files directly into Elements, or should I import them into Adobe Bridge? I'm confused on why duplicate systems are offered. What advantages are there to each? Thanks for your patience in answering these basic questions. I know how to handle my image manipulations and sizing, etc from P.S.5, but need to establish the basic import/file system for my images, which will be family/travel in nature.

You don't need to "import" photos into Elements for mac. You just download them and then point bridge (if you want to browse) towards the folder they are in. In Elements (if you aren't using bridge) just use File>Open. There's really no point in bringing photos directly into elements because it doesn't store them. Put 'em where you want 'em, then open them with Elements for editing, or with Bridge if you want to apply keywords there.

  • Premiere Elements 10 Does Not Recognize Camcorder

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get Adobe Elements 10 to recognize my Canon Elura 60 camcorder?  The program worked fine on my Sony Viao laptop, but the laptop died and has been replaced by a new desktop computer.  The program recognizes my Canon Legria HV40, but not the Elura 60.  The HV40 can not playback the tapes recorded on the Elura 60, so using it to transfer the data is not an option.  I did notice after upgrading the Elements 10 that the list of supported devices did not include the Elura 60.  Could this upgrade be the diference between the original program working with the Elura before but not now?  Any help gratefully received.  Thanks for your time.

    Hi Steve
Many thanks for getting back to me re this issue.  I am using a Firewire connection and as I said before Elements 10 does recognize the HD camcorder, but not the digital SD camcorder.  I am baffled by the fact that the program was working fine on my Sony Viao laptop that perished.  At that time I only had the Canon Elura 60, as my HV30 was stolen in a break-in at our second home in France.  The HV40 was purchased so that I could record in HD to replace the stolen HV30.  I may try on of the ''freebie'' programs recommended by another forum contributor.  I will buy another software program before I call Adobe tech support at £35 a pop.  If I could only get the tape data onto the hard drive I am certain that I would be home and dry.

  • How do i keep imported clips in order?

    I am using Premiere Essentials 13, Windows 8.1, 64
    Canon Elura 100
Because I need to use a fire wire (which my new computer doesn't have), I downloaded my film to an older computer (Windows 7, 64 bit). I have 63 .avi files. They are date and time stamped, and I added a generic title after that info to each clip. I burned a DVD, then imported the files to my new computer to Adobe Premier Essentials 13. The files were all renamed to variations of VTS_01_0.BUP with a lot of redundancies. The files were then reordered according to the new names, which means they are completely out of order. What am I doing wrong?
Looking at the below info gleaned from an Adobe site, I tried importing with FileName, which seemed to be the right choice. Wondering if I should rename all 63 files consecutively, 01, 02 etc.
    Thanks.
Select a naming convention for the downloaded files using the Presets menu.
FilenameRetains the filenames the camcorder assigns.
Folder Name - NumberIf your folder name is Wedding Pics, the clips are assigned the names Wedding Pics-001, Wedding Pics-002, and so on.
Date - filenameAdds a timestamp to the filename the camcorder assigns. The timestamp is the current date and time - the date and time on which the movies were transferred to your computer.note: To rename files, delete them from the Project Assets panel in the Expert view, and reimport them.
Custom Name - NumberEnter a custom name in the Name field. For example, if you enter My Holiday in the field, the clips are named My Holiday-001, My Holiday-002, and so on.

Could we go over your details to make sure that we are together on them?
You did a DV data (standard or widescreen) capture firewire using a program other than Premiere Elements for the capture. And, that resulted in 63 dv.avi files.
You mention burning those files to DVD disc. With your mention of file name such as VTS_01_0.BUP, it sounds to me that you burned one or more of the 63 dv.avi to DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc. Why? If you wanted to save the .dv.avi files, why did you not just burn them to a DVD disc as a data disc so that you would have 63 dv.avi saved on the DVD disc instead of the VIDEO_TS Folder with all the structures of DVD-VIDEO format on that DVD disc?
If Premiere Elements 13 did still have the DV Capture feature, you would have been putting dv.avi type 2 on the Timeline as a result of the capture firewire. Also, do you know if whatever you used for the DV data capture produced dv.avi type 1 or dv.avi type 2. Did you use Movie Maker 2012?
Also, I wanted to make sure that you were not dealing with some special version of Premiere Elements 13.
    When you wrote
    "I am using Premiere Essentials 13, Windows 8.1, 64"
Did you mean Premiere Elements 13?
Please review and consider and then we can discuss this further.
    Thank you.

  • Suprised at lack of service from Apple!

When I logged onto this form I thought my problem would be addressed. But this is not the case. Where is Apple? I am surprised and dismayed that there is no response from Apple. Is this the norm? Does Apple not help out here?
My issue is this error message:
    Safari can’t open the page
    “https://support.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/ACAuthWeb.…79ae23&path=/
    login.jspa%3FsuccessURL%3D%252Findex.jspa” because it couldn’t

I did the following and it solved the problem.
    Re: Certificate Issues

    I HAVE THE ANSWER EVERYONE!
Alright. Print this off and to take care of the issue.
Insert your Macintosh OS X Install Disc 1 into your computer. Now restart your computer. When you hear the start up chime, hold the "C" key until you see the spinning jog wheel. Let go of the "C" key and you will be brought to an install window. Select English as your main language and continue through the process. When it asks you where you would like to install Macintosh OS X, select the Macintosh HD and then select options. Do JUST and Archive and Install. This will take a while, but once it is done, it will resolve all certificate issues including SSL in mail for e-mails. After this, perform all of the software updates on your computer.
Note: This WILL NOT wipe your hard drive.
Have fun and good luck everyone. And thank you everyone for the help.

  • Another iMac Freezing Issue - pls help a newbie out

I understand this problem is not uncommon - I've been trying to read the many threads I see on the issue. However, most posts outline problems, suggestions are made, but then reported to not work. Also, many threads are 2 years old.
Could someone please suggest a step-by-step troubleshooting solution?
    Here are my pertinent facts:
    * Bought 20" iMac in July 07.
    * Processor: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    * Memory: 3GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    * Hubs installed the second memory stick a while ago (over a year and i don't remember this problem correlating with the new memory).
    * Video: ATI Radeon X1600
    * OS: Mac OS X 10.6.2
    * HD: 250GB capacity, 31GB available
    * I am using an external harddrive to back up my stuff (LaCie, connected by firewire)
    * Frequently used apps: Firefox, iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, Parallels (Quicken for PC), MS Office for Mac, etc.
The problem starting occurring several months ago, while I was still running Tiger. Have since upgraded to Snow Leopard, with no improvement, in fact, things are getting worse.
I get display distortion ("artifacts"?) - horizontal lines, blocks of the screen distort, usually clearing after dragging that part of the app off the screen of view and then back.
Typically, if I start seeing display issues, a freeze up is imminent.
Sometimes I get a sense it's coming soon - things run more slowly. Other times, it seems without provocation. I click on a window and nothing happens.
Sometimes it's the wheel of death other times screen completely locks up with no spinning wheel. No option to force quit. Mouse is unresponsive. Keyboard appears to be, although I can toggle the Caps lock button on and off (light toggles). If I am streaming video, the screen will lock up, but the audio continues. If I wait (have gone to bed and come back in the am) it is still frozen.
If I am streaming video (i.e Hulu on Firefox) or working in memory intensive applications (Windows, Parallels, Photoshop Elements, etc.) Problem is more frequent.
I can go a day or so without problems, but if I am doing anything slightly involved, it happens much more frequently, as often as every 10 minutes or half hour or so.
    Steps I have taken:
I always have to do a hard reboot. I have run disk utility multiple times, occasionally it finds and corrects stuff, but no fix seems to be permanent.
I have seen suggestions of resetting PRAM as well as doing a clean re-install, but also seen that those fixes haven't endured.
I don't have Apple Care and I'm not sure what steps I should be taking to fix this. Is there hope? I mostly see lots of problems reported, but not successful resolution.
It's aggravating because I can't use the system for the stuff I bought it for (ex: digital scrapbooking) without worrying about losing my data. I switched to a Mac because I heard they ran so great and were "cool" to boot. While there have been many features of the Mac i enjoy, *if this kind of performance is typical after 2 yrs of use, I will not remain loyal to Apple.*
If you have been successful in resolving the issue with Apple, what did you tell them and what did they do?
I am competent system "user", but not as good when it gets into the weeds. Would appreciate any advice, feel free to spell it out as tho I were an idiot.
I would appreciate a "try this, then try this" approach, especially if you have tried it and it has worked for you.
    Thanks for the help,
    Kendra

OK, Mean, I mean Meanest, we have the same system (mine was purchased late 2006), and I can say we have identical symptoms. I agree with Paul_31 regarding disk space, but in addition, from all the posts on various Apple forums, it seems clear that the problem is due to the Radeon X1600 graphics card AND heat. These elegantly-designed Macs that we all love have a lot of stuff packed into a small package. Consequently they run hot, and over time the result is components bake and deteriorate. In our case, the weak link seems to be the Radeon card and since it’s not easily replaced, repair costs are nearly as much as the cost of a new iMac. A contributing factor is that over time dust will build up inside your Mac, and this serves as insulation, retarding heat transfer, and causing components to run hotter still.
OK, so that’s the sad tale, but what can you do? Assuming your system is not too far gone due to the ravages of heat over time, there are things you can do to help prolong it’s life, and hopefully get it to behave itself better until the time it finally fails completely.
In my case, the steps I’ve taken have resulted in a system that now “generally” runs for days at a time without locking up/crashing. A caveat: these are bandaids, not true fixes. I’m convinced the Radeon card will eventually fail and I’ll be faced with shopping for a new Mac – I’m only hoping the steps taken will give me a few more years of use before that happens. So, here’s my suggestions (basically they all have to do with getting your Mac to run cooler and being able to monitor temps so you know just how hot things are getting):
    1. First of all, if you don’t already have one, get one of the free programs available to monitor your Mac’s internal temperatures. One of the most popular ones is a widget, iStat Pro. As I type this iStat Pro is showing my temps are as follows:
    Hard Drive 92 deg. F
    CPU 85 F
    Ambient Air 69 F
GPU Diode (graphics card) 92 F
    Hard Drive Bay 95 F
    Memory Controller 90 F
    Optical Drive 81 F
If you have iStat Pro and see that your temps are about the same as these, I would say don’t bother to read further – you may have a different set of problems. If your temps are 10-20 F (or more) higher, keep reading.
    2. Try to clean out the internals of your Mac with compressed air. After 3+ years of use, I used an air compressor with an air gun attachment and blew through the vents at the back and bottom of my Mac with 60-80psi and actually saw a cloud of dust come out of my Mac. A more effective approach would entail cracking open the case of the Mac so you could really blow directly on the different boards/components. I haven’t done that, but I’m tempted to give it a try. Note: Some have suggested vacuuming and/or using a can of compressed air. I don’t think that approach is all that effective. You need a really strong flow of air to get that dust out of the inards.
    3. Download the free program SMC Fan Control (v 2.2.2). It will allow you to adjust the fan speeds higher for each of the 3 internal fans. The Mac has firmware that ramps up the speeds of these fans as internal temps rise, but the general consensus is the Mac firmware is “too little, too late”. With the standard Mac firmware, the fans will run at their default settings well beyond the point where the components are already way too hot. SMC Fan Control allows you to set the minimum fan speeds higher than the Mac default.
Once you've done these steps, I'd suggest doing a SMC reset, then re-boot while keeping your fingers crossed.
This is getting too long so I’ll stop for now. Good luck...

  • Cannot export to tape from CS4

I have PPro CS4 connected by firewire to either a Canon HV 30 MiniDV camera or a Sony GV-D1000 Mini DV deck.  (I've tried both).
I am trying to export my project to MiniDV tape.  I have succeeded in the past but for some reason now can't do it.
I select "Export to tape" in PPro and all seem to go smoothly, the device being controlled from the PPro device controller and the tape starting to roll.  It's just that no image appears in the screen on the HV30 or GV-D1000, and nothing is recorded.  I am following the instructions for each device regarding recording via this method.  It just seems no data is being sent from the PC to the device.
Options in Edit - Preferences - Device Control are set for the approrpriate PAL system and device.
I can record from the device onto my PC using the same firewire port and cable.
    I'm using Windows 7.
    12Gb RAM
    i7 chip
    ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics card
    Can anyone help, please?

Thanks again, Ann, but as mentioned in my "Dropping frames during capture" thread, this has already been tried and failed.
The following things have been tried and have all failed to prevent, roughly every minute or so during capture or export, two or three seconds of interference which results in lots of dropped frames during capture or a blank screen during export:
    Different firewire cables
Different programs:  PPro CS4; Pr Elements 9, Windows Live Movie Maker
    Capturing to different hard discs
    Capturing to external hard disc
    Closing every non-essential process
    Detaching every non-essential peripheral
Switching off all other electronic devices in that part of the house, phone included
Capturing from/exporting to different devices from different makers
    Changing the firewire driver
I think it's either the firewire driver on Windows 64 bit, (althouhg I've treid changing it) or a problem with the graphics card.
The firewire slot is not in a card by itself, but part of a panel of many slots and plugholes at the back of my PC - USBs, minijacks, firewire etc  I have no further slots available for a separate firewire card.
The only solution I can see is to save the project as a huge AVI file, transfer that to my lap top, make a movie out of it with Windows Live Movie Maker, and export from there.

  • Panasonic PV-GS180

Video camera not on the capture device list. This is a DV camera and Elements should run this from the capture window.
Is there a driver for this camera I can download?
    Thanks!

You need a firewire (iLink) cable to connect your camcorder to a firewire card in your computer. Premiere Elements won't capture over USB 2.0 except for a very few camcorders that have a special type of USB 2.0 interface. I didn't see from the specifications on Panasonics site that the model you have has the special type of USB 2.0 interface, just the normal high speed USB 2.0.

  • If I want to keep the quality of the original captured footage(from the tapes),what format should I?

I captured canon hv20 by firewire to my computer with adobe premiere elements 11. After capture, I have cutted clip three times. Then I want to export my computer because of I watch on my 46 inches full hd lcd television. If I want to keep the quality of the original captured footage (from the tapes), what format should I? I choosen mpeg 1440x1080i 24, it alerts error. Or i chosee avchd 1920x1080p, then it is too larger than captured scenes. I think it is 20000MB but captured scened (without cut) only 11.2 gb. Please help me. Thanks very much.

    YCLCS
File size and Bitrate and Quality are interrelated. From what I have read, the bitrate for your HDV footage from the PAL Canon HV20 camcorder should be about 25 Mbps (megabits per second). If you did a HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements, you should MPEG2.mpg file on the Timeline.
    When you did your export
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    MPEG
using Presets = MPEG2 1440 x 1080i25, did you make any changes in the settings under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset?
When you look at the settings in the Export Settings dialog for the MPEG 1440 x 1080i25 preset, you will see the default bitrate settings
    Minimum = 18 Mbps
    Target = 25 Mbps
    Maximum = 30 Mbps
The program's export bitrate may be higher than that of your source media, resulting in the increased file size. You can check out the bitrate, using the properties readout from a free program such a MediaInfo
    http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
You could experiment with different bitrate, trying to maintain the quality as you decrease the maximum bitrate from 30 Mbps downward to reduce the file size.
The file extension of your export should be .m2t, .mpg. So, your export is MPEG2.m2t. I find that that type of file will playback in Windows Media Player, but not QuickTime (latest version). This particular export would be the closest to the source media properties.
But, right now I would try to perfect the MPEG2 1440 x 1080i25, experimenting with the bitrate to bring the file size into line with the source file and still maintain video quality. The AVCHD.mp4 suggested by Ann Bens is a prime candidate quality wise. If size becomes a factor, you might want to explore a 1920 x 1080i25 or 1440 x 1080i25 Windows Media Video 9.wmv file which we can discuss in more detail depending on how things are going.
Please review the above and then let us know how we can help.

  • Problems Connecting my HDR-HC7 to Windows 7 64-bit

    Hello,
I used to have Windows 7 32-bit and was able to connect my HDR-HC7 Sony camcorder via Firewire without too much trouble. Preimere Elements 11 woud see the camera as would HDVSplit.
I recently built a new computer (using the same Firewire card) and placed Windows 7 64-bit on it. When I connect the camcorder via Firewire, it is recognized instantly as the HDR-HC7 camera. I can see it under Devices and Printers. The camera itself shows that the iLink is on, but when using Preimere or even HDVSplit, there is no camcorder recognized. It is as if I didn't connect it at all, even though Windows does see it.
I have tried changing the settings on the camera to DV Convert, Auto, etc. but I cannot seem to get it to be recognized. Also the drivers appear to be up to date (if you consider 2006 up to date).
Any ideas on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for the help.

    Great news!
Driver issues with newer OS's can be tough.

  • Do I need a dvd rip software to transfer clips over to Adobe

I have an odd question. I want to use Adobe Premiere Pro to make a special video for a friend but I need to take out clips from a few movie's and shows for this to happen. I didn't see anything on Adobe that can help so my guess is to use DVD ripping software like 'Handbrake' to rip what I need and then transfer the files to Adobe. Is this correct or is there another way?

    Thanks for the update.
Are we still discussing ripping DVD video files from a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc? If we are.....
    When you
I tried loading a movie to Adobe Premiere Elements 12 through the ADD FILE but when I tried it took awhile to load and it looked like through the 'preview' video would play but no audio, and it looked like it didn't load the film
Did you specifically insert your DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc into the burner tray
Open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to its Expert workspace
Used  Add Media/"DVD camera and computer drive"/Video Importer....In the Video Importer dialog was the Source set to the drive into which the DVD disc was inserted?
If so, did you see there at least the  thumbnail for VTS_01_1.VOB file.
You should be using only the DVD video files...starting with VTS_01_1.VOB. Depending on the duration of the content on the disc, you may have a series of DVD video files. But, for now
finding the VTS_01_1.VOB and determining its video and audio quality is the priority.
As for the Easycap Capture USB 2.0...I have never used that device. And, I do not believe it is for the purpose of ripping DVD video files from a DVD disc.
I suspect its description is for DV data capture via USB into a software Capture Window. A firewire, not USB, connection works in Premiere Elements process of  DV and HDV capture into the Premiere Elements Capture Window. Version 13 no longer has this feature.
Please review to make sure that we are together on the details and the goals at this point.
    Thanks.

  • Can I download a DV tape to Premier Elements without a firewire connection?

I recently purchased a new HD camcorder as well as Premier Elements 10.  One of the tasks that I'd like to accomplish via Premier Elements is to download my old DV tapes to my hard drive, which the software seems to support.  The instruction manuals and video tuitorials mention that this transfer / capture must generally be done with a firewire connection (which my computer does not have).  However, my new HD camcorder downloads via a USB connection without a problem.  I tried to download from the DV camcorder using a USB connection and (sure enough) Premier Elements wouldn't recognize the old camcorder.  Does anyone know why is this a problem / what the compatibility issue is?  Is there a way to download the DV tapes to my hard drive without having to purchase and install a new firewire connection to my existing computer and buying a new firewire cord?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

For Capture of tape in PrE, you will need FW. If your computer does not have FW, then you have a couple of choices:
    Add a FW (IEEE-1394) card
Add a FW connection to a laptop via either a PCMCIA, or ExpressCard

Major backup time regarding your "capture", "USB connection", "no firewire for camcorder".......
Let us start again. Your question was interpreted as one concerning DV data capture into Premiere Elements capture window (requires a firewire connection).
I just dug into the user guide for your camera...instead of a miniDV camcorder, I find a camera that records DVD-VIDEO to a DVD disc. Is that your camera's description? That puts a different complexion to the matter. Please confirm that you are recording to a DVD-VIDEO standard to widescreen on a DVD disc. If not that, then please explain with more details.
If you camera is recording as I now believe, you do not need a firewire or USB connection.
    1. Place the finalized DVD disc in the DVD burner tray of your computer.
    2. If you are working with Premiere Elements 12 Windows, then set the project preset for NTSC DV Standard or Widescreen (or the PAL counterpart, depending on your computer setup), and then, in the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 12, Add Media/"DVD camera or computer drive", Video Importer.
This process copies (rips) video files (VOBs) of the DVD-VIDEO and allows you to put these video files on the program's Timeline for edits and export.
Please let us know if we are now in sync on what you are seeking.
    Thanks.
