Firewire chipset RESET

I cannot view the Digital Video cameras (TRV-480 & DCR1-IP)that are plugged into the either the FW400&800 inputs to the Powerbook (one at a time). The devices show up in the apple Profiler but iMovie says that no camera is connected. I have read on the iMovie discussions that removing all power for a G4 will reset the chipsts for firewire input. I posted on iMovie forum and they quite rudely told me to post here because the question they said has to do with a powerbook G4 even though the suggestion was posted there. I have changed cables and cameras. I have bought QT7 pro with MPEG2 componet. Downloaded and installed Streamclip and Serbians Mpeg2 converter. I just can't view the input on the firewire inputs. I would like to reset the chipsets for firewire as mentioned above. I assume I need to remove the power and the battery but will that really reset the firewire chipsets?

This is probably the link:

However, I think it may boil down to resetting the SMC:

  • How to determine Firewire chipset?

I'm trying to determine which chipset my Macbook/Leopard 10.5 is using for
Firewire. This comp was purchased less than 2 weeks ago, and I have
gotten information that says Apple switched from Texas Instruments to
Lucent chipsets, which are not compatible with most audio interfaces.
This comp was purchased for being an audio/MIDI production machine.
When I go to System Profiler/FireWire, it only tells me:
FireWire Bus: Maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec.
That's it -- no manufacturer information or versions, etc.
Is there another way to determine the chipset? Perhaps some Terminal
    command?
    Thanks!

Restart your computer while holding down control-command-V simultaneously. That should give a stream of information which includes the FireWire chipset. It flashes through quickly before OSX loads up regularly.
I've got the current MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz. It says "FireWire (OHCI) Lucent" on the left, halfway down.
I'm sure that they went with Lucent for all the current MacBooks. A FW chipset isn't a commodity part like a hard drive, and the logic board would have to be designed around the specific package type and pinout of the chipset.

  • Is Texas Instruments the built in Firewire chipset for my G5

Hi, With the info supplied would you be able to tell me what brand of built in firewire chipset I have on my Mac (TI, VIA, etc....)?
    I am experiencing audio problems.
Also is there a part number?
    MAC G5
    MODEL -- A1047 [SALES MODEL M9454LL/A]
    SPEED – 1.18GHZ DUAL
OHCI APPLE ID 42PCI NOW ACTIVE GUID 000D93FFFEAE8006
    Serial Number (system): G8424*QPQ
    Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-000D93AE8006
    <Edited by Host>

I received some feed back from some guru's about the firewire chipset in the Mac G5 I stated above. I hope this info will help whom ever.
I will show 2 possible answers.
1.Unfortunately Apple's Developer notes just refer to the 'Firewire controller' and do not mention the chipset at all. The controller is part of the K2 IC, all in a single integrated circuit with all the south bus devices - including audio, firewire, SATA and ATA, modem, ethernet and bluetooth, PCI bus, airport and USB - all on a single IC.
This may be because I do not see the Brand name in the system pro-filer and when rebooting to command-S.
On the other hand there is this possibility
2.Found an old G5 logic board . Can't tell you what model it was in, exactly, but it has 4 RAM slots and AGP, and two CPU sockets.
Looking at the FW ports and tracing back on the board, they appear to link back to this chip:
TI logo (....pretty sure, but it is very small!)
    56DF30TG4
TSB81BA3. This number leads to this web site - http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tsb81ba3.html
    Hope this helps.

  • What firewire chipset is used in the Mini?

    Hi,
Does anyone know what Firewire chipset is used in the current Mac Mini? Or if any of the previous versions used a TI (Texas Instruments) firewire chipset?
I want to drive some digital audio gear from a Mac Mini via Firewire, and there appear to be notorious compatibility problems with non-TI chipsets, especially the Agere/Lucent ones.
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Simon

The answer is unfortunately Lucent - I just checked one in my nearest Apple store, by doing a Command+S on boot.
Mac Mini (Core 2, Jan 2009):
'FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5811 built-in now active, GUI 0022241fffeff3b7e6; max speed s400.'
    Mac Mini (PPC, old):
'FireWire (OHCI) Apple ID 31 built-in now active, GUID 001451fffe0a2400; max speed s400.'
This is actually an Apple 'Intrepid' and uses a Lucent PHY, according to the Apple PHYTool 2.9
My old (Lucent chipset) PPC Mini exhibits big problems working with my FireWire audio interface (TI chipset, TC Electronic Konnekt 24D), whilst my old (TI chipset) MacBook Pro works fine.
It looks like I'll have to switch to a PC (e.g. Mini-ITX) for this application.

    Simon

  • How do i see what firewire chipset I have?

I want to know what kind of firewire chipset i have in my G5 (late 2004).
I have a problem with my MOTU firewire interface but i cannot find the kind of firewire chipset i have inside my powermac.
    Tim

It's likely a problem with the external device not the computer (unless the computer's motherboard has defective FireWire ports.) For external devices the best chipsets are Oxfords'. But the Oxford chipsets are mainly used on the bridge boards used in external drives.
Contact the MOTU tech support for help.

  • What firewire chipset is shipping in the new 3Ghz imacs?

Given the known issues with the Agere/Lucent FW chipset (rendering a lot of firewire audio interfaces useless) I was wondering if the new 3ghz imacs are now shipping with the TI (Texas Instruments) Firewire chipset. Does anyone know?
I believe if you hold down command-s while booting you can read this info off the screen. If anyone with one of these new imacs could confirm which chipset it ships with, I'd appreciate it. And if it's the TI, I'll finally order one. Thanks.

I have the 3.06 GHz model and it came with an Intel E8435 processor.

I'll look some more for the FW info.

  • Which firewire chipset is used in the new macbook pros?

Does anybody know what's the firewire chipset the new mbps are using? Recording audio through a firewire audio interface is the main purpose of the new laptop I'm getting.
btw, firewire audio recording pretty much only works with the TI chipset so I really hope they used that one instead of Agere or whatever.

First of all audio recording works flawless with the LSI/Agere chipsets, but connection does not. You need to use some kind of Firewire hub or repeater cable (have a look at Lindy repeater cables, they work like a charm).
Second, the new Macs are said to use a new revision of the LSI/Agere chip which RME Audio approved to be working correctly (the chipset revision, not the Macbooks) with their interfaces (Fireface) on the RME forum.

  • What is the firewire chipset in the current Mac minis?

I am considering purchasing a Mac mini for mobile audio use.
Many audio interfaces are picky about FireWire chipsets.
Can anyone confirm what exact FireWire chipset they are shipping with?
I'm particularly interested in the Mac mini with the 2.6GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7.

    The iFixit teardown
    http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Mac+Mini+Late+2012+Teardown/11262/2
lists several chips but does not list any functions for some.
    It appear that
    LSI L-FW643E-2
    is the FW chip
    http://www.lsi.com/downloads/Public/1394%20Products/FW643E/LSI-PB_2pg_FW643E_fn. pdf
    It includes:
The LSI FW643E is a second-
    generation 1394b Open Host

  • Firewire chipset on brand new i-Mac 21.5"

    Hello,
I read on many forums about serious issues and incompatibility with Agere firewire chipset. What firewire chipset my i-Mac has got? Agere, Texas Instruments, Lucent, others?
I bought my i-Mac 21.5" some days ago...
I hope somebody answer me, please.
    Best regards,

I need to know my iMac 23" firewire model too, I didn't found anything in this forum, can someone help me? Can you suggest a software or a way to show FIREWIRE brand and model?
    Thanks a lot

  • GX720 Firewire Chipset type & 64 bit drivers

Hello all you MSI tech Guru's
I have a couple o quick questions about the FireWire port in my GX720.
    my story is this:
I have had to install Win 7 64 bit on my GX720, as some of the applications i work with require a 64 bit OS for them to function correctly (not for the extra ram, they will not install in a 32 bit OS)
I realize that there is no official support for Win 7 64bit on this model of notebook, but using generic drivers, I have gotten 90% of it working (only the intel mass storage, TV cards and 1 "unknown device" are missing drivers).
pretty much everything is working exactly how I'd expect it to in the 64bit environment (including basic use of my FireWire port), however.....
I also run a high('ish) end FireWire audio card (A MOTU Ultralite MK3 for those keen on sound) and am having some unusual issues with it (freezing of audio playback in multiple applications every couple of seconds ), after chatting to some audio experts, they have indicated that the issue may be with the FireWire chipset on the notebooks main board or the FireWire driver for the notebooks Chipset (I am exploring the audio cards role in this error too and an email has been sent to MOTU tech support).
    Can anyone tell me:
a.) what the firewire controller chipset make (eg. Texas Instruments, Ricoh, Intel, ect....) & model is ?
b.) is there a generic win7 64bit driver that can be installed for it (instead of the default one that windows uses) ?
    Thanks in advance, Kind regards

Windows already includes a generic FireWire (IEEE1394) controller driver. There is nothing else to install or update.

Does anyone know what firewire chipset these laptops have, I tried technical support and they didn have a clue. I cannot believe that with the serial number and the model/product number they cant tell me what F'n chipset for firewire it has.

    Hi
    Regarding the question:
    1) the notebook supports the Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset. The motherboard supports an SATA HDD controller only and RAID is not available!!!
In BIOS you can change the SATA controller mode to AHCI or compatible mode. Compatible mode allows you to install an windows OS without an installation or SATA driver!
    2) Ulead DVD MovieFactory is an 3rd party software. This means that you cannot download this software. such software is only a part of the Toshiba image (recovery) which is preinstalled on the Toshiba notebook.
All other applications (Toshiba DVD Player, webcam software, Face Recognition) can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.

  • Macbook pro models with "Texas Instruments" firewire chipset

    Hi
Please, anyone knows wich macbook pro models(MA896LL/A, etc..) in 2007 and 2008 have "Texas instruments" or "Agere" firewire chipset?
Overall between MA896LL and MA896LL/A (mid 2007 and late 2007)
    Thanks

Well, I've run a few tests, and learned something new.
CS6 on my MacBook Pro has three acceleration modes now: Software, Hardware (OpenCL) and Hardware (CUDA).
I've run software only... not so great. Then I ran Hardware Open CL, and it "acts" like CUDA did on my Mac Pro with GTX 285... bars that were red turned yellow, and some things ran without rendering! I was pretty surprised by this, as I have only 512MB VRAM, not 1GB VRAM on the 650M.
This is only my not-very-serious edit-on-the-road system, so I didn't spec it out to be a monster editing laptop, but I'm extremely pleased by how well it runs with CS6. I have two very nice, new SSDs inside; one for OS X/apps, and the other for media, as well as 16GB RAM. Each SSD runs at 500MB/sec +/- whether read or write, despite the second SSD being in the space where the optical drive was.
It's too bad there's not just a *wee bit* more space where the optical drive was... or I'd try to stuff THREE SSDs inside, and RAID two of them for media.
So far, I'm really pleased with how well it works with only 512MB VRAM, which was the question I had wanted answered.

  • USB hub OK to bypass the infamous PL3507 firewire chipset?

    Hello everbody.
I just had a couple of external USB2, eSata and Firewire boxes for 3,5" HDs. Unfortunately they have the infamous PL3507 chipset from Prolific instead of the Mac OS X Oxford-compatible chipsets. Each box alone works fine but if a second os placed connected to the first nothing works (this is a known issue).
As my iMac has only 1 FW port will a FW hub OK in order to solve my problem?
One more thing: is a Firewire REPEATER the same thing as a Firewire HUB?
Thank you very much in advance.

A powered hub should work fine.
    Should… but will it?
Not all devices work well with hubs, and massili's list includes a few odd customers, the Cubase dongle in particular.
My suggestion is, first check with Steinberg tech support to make sure their dongle works with hubs, and if it's been tested on, or if they recommend, any particular brand. Then ask in an M-Audio user forum about using that interface with a hub; finally, do the same for the MIDI device.

  • Firewire bus reset for Logic and hardware

I'm running Logic Studio (9) through an mLan Presonus Firestation and Yamaha Motif Rack XS. I have an addition al firewire card installed attached to a Focusrite Liquid Mix. The system is stable but isn't so flexible. If I change sample rates by mistake or change devices in the wrong order, the mLan system loses sync with the computer. The ONLy way to get the sync back is to close all of my audio programs and REBOOT the mac. This of course disturbs my workflow. Is there a way to reset the firewire bus(ses) through a software option without rebooting ?

    Hi there,
This may be of some help. There are a few links to other pager in there also.
