Firewire Conflict with HD & Canopus 110

Anyone have any exeprience with Firewire 400 conflicts like this...?
The only way I can use both my LaCie HD (big disk extreme 500G) and Canopus ADVC 110 (C-110) is to first boot my system with the HD on and the C-110 powered off. When I then connect the C-110, the system is able to see both and everything works fine (so far). BUT...
If I boot my system with both the LaCie HD and the C-110 connected via Firewire 400, the system doesn't see either one. If I then go into the sytem profiler and look under Hardware>Firewire, the system hangs and I have to reboot. I've also had the sytem hang when trying to load FCE HD 3.5, forcing yet another reboot.
Are there known conflicts like this? I've searched this forum and couldn't find anything specific to this set up. While I do have a work around, it's not convenient and it still suggests something is amiss.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm eager to get down to some productive work, and this isn't helping.

Hi,
I have Lacie d2's (no big disk extreme, however) and the ADVC-110. Haven't had any problems with them when connected at the same time, but I could make a few suggestions -
If you have the ADVC daisychained off the drive, don't. If you have them on the same FW controller, put them on separate ones if possible, although I realize that may require an additional FW card.
Sometimes there are issues with miniDVcams connected to the front FW port on the G5, if that's where you have the ADVC connected that may be a factor.
Also, if you ever connected/disconnected the FW cable to the ADVC while it was powered on or the G5 was powered, the FW chip in the ADVC may have been damaged. (And the FW ports on the G5 are powered even when the machine is shut down, unless you have disconnected power at the wall or at your surge protector/UPS).
But maybe you've already checked all this ...

  • Canopus 110 and the dreaded "Cannot connect to device"  msg

I am using Premiere Elements 2.0 with the Canopus 110 to make copies of my HI-8 and Beta tapes, and getting increasingly frustrated with the way PE 2 drops my temporary file and forces me to start the whole copy over again from the beginning every time I get the "Cannot connect to device" error. It occurred to me that maybe later versions of PE have fixed this problem. It seems simple enough -- when I press 'Stop Capture' the temporary file instantly becomes permanent, so why not when I get a momentary interruption in the signal? It would be worth $100 to me to upgrade to PE 6 or 7 or whatever the latest version is.
So, my question is directed toward others who are plagued by this irritating message: Do the later versions of PE 'save' what has already been recorded?
    Thanks!

'Stop capture on dropped frames' was already turned off. You gave me an idea, however. I will turn it ON and see if that solves my problem (if Capture must be aborted, I want PE2 to save what has already been captured).
I had not heard of WinDV and was quite impressed. Only a 38K download, and it works right out of the box! Now to try recording and see what it does when the connection is interrupted.
Two good ideas -- thanks, both of you!

  • FCE HD (3.5.1) importing analog videotape via Canopus 110

I am new to all aspects of Final Cut Express and the Canopus 110 and need some serious help to capture video from VHS tape. I've followed (I think) all directions for the equipment and software, but I cannot get it to work -probably a simple solution, but I am stumped!
    +MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, 4GB memory, OS X 10.5.8 & FCE 3.5.1+
    *Equipment Settings*
VHS Tape Deck is on (it does work)
S-video cable connects from VHS player "S-video Out" to Canopus 110 "S-video In"
Canopus ADVC110 - all DIP switches set to off, "Analog In" light is on
Firewire cable connects Canopus110 to MacBook Pro +(also providing power for device)+
Fantom Green Drive 1TB External Hard Drive attached to MBP via USB
    *Software Settings*
I have tried two different Easy Setup Choices
DV-NTSC DV Converter - this choice does not appear to work at all, unless I am missing something. This setting does not allow me to capture.
DV-NTSC - with this setting, it appears the devices are connected properly as FCE shows "VTR ok." Yet there are only bars with the note "preview disabled." I can theoretically capture data... but only a black screen is visible, no video.
I really need help. The movies were "taped" 20 years ago, but from film reels taken more than 50 years ago with an old movie camera. Obviously, I am not worried about sound at this time, but I must be able to capture the video stream in short clips that can be re-ordered. Given the age of the tapes, though, it is of primary importance that they simply be preserved.

Hello, and welcome to the Forum.
It appears you have the Canopus connected properly.
Exactly what model MacBook Pro do you have; and is the FireWire connection FW400 or FW800? What kind of cable are you using to connect your MBP to the Canopus box? (eg. 6-pin FW400 to 6-pin FW400, or 9-pin FW800 to 6-pin FW400, or something else? Is is a cable alone, or are you using some kind of FW400/800 adapter?) Do you have ANY other FireWire devices connected?
You should use the DV NTSC - DV Converter easy setup. When you use this easy setup you will only be able to use 'Capture Now'. Note: you do have to manually start your VCR playback.
Try shutting off everything, then power on your VHS deck & Canopus box. Then start your Mac. Then start FCE. At this point, does FCE 'see' your video in the Capture Now window?

  • Is anyone else having conflict with 10.8.2 update and audio files?

I recently updated from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2 (big mistake).  Now my digital interface has all of these random clicks and pops.  Worse yet, when I try and play my audio files (Digital Performer) or ITUNES that music stops, starts, stutters and is basically unlistenable.  Before the update everything ran smoothly.  I talked with the tech support for my digital music application (Digital Performer) and he thinks there is a conflict with the latest Apple update too.  Is anyone else having these problems?
To get back to 10.8.1 do I have to wipe the hard drive and re-install everything?  I use my Mac for music production so this is killing me.  Any ideas?

I once again reloaded 10.8.2, all of the current firewire, USB, and printer drivers (why not make sure those are up to date too, what have I got to lose?).  Checked the cables, the Mac firewire ports etc.  No change.
So I bought a cheap back up firewire drive (Western Digital, My Passport Studio-about $100).  That worked perfectly on the firewire port of my Mac Pro.
I hooked up my MOTU 828 firewire audio interface into the Western Digital's second firewire port, and everything works perfectly.
I wish I had known that daisey chaining devices would solve my problem before I spent $500 on a new firewire interface.
If you are having similar problems with firewire connection, then try daisey chaining through a device that has no problems.  Who knew a solution could be so simple?

  • Audio to midi error - check conflict with external device - apogee rosetta

    hey there
i have a problem and any help is much appreciated..
basically i am running a quad xeon dual 2.66 machine under 10.4.10 and using logic 7.2. 1 gig ram.
i am using a apogee rosetta 800 with the option x firewire card for my audio interface.
whenever i set a track up to record and 'play' logic i get a message saying,
'unable to sync audio to midi check conflict with external device' and then it says something like sample rate 43021 recognised.. something close to 44100 but not quite..
so i think my problem is a clocking/sync one maybe? i have tried everything i could think of, including fixes suggested on the forums here, but nothing so far seems to help e.g making sure autosync in on the transport is unchecked, checking audio MIDI setup.
worryingly with the few problems similar to this on the forums there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it!!
anybody who could help would be a lifesaver.. this is destroying my workflow!! emailed apogee and im waiting for a reply.
    thank you very much
    richie

    Hi,
Ok, then there can be a few more possibilities,
Try this: unplug your Rosetta, and any other FireWire devices you might have. Basicallly you want to start Logic with the internal audio.
If this works ok, then it is not an issue with the Mac's hardware, and is an issue with a FW device.
Then, quit Logic, and plug in the Rosetta by itself. Boot Logic, and select it as the audio interface. Try playing stuff back. does it work? If yes, then the issue is with another FW device. If there is a issue, then there might be a corrupt driver, a bad FW cable, etc. Keep trying one by one to go through re-installing the drivers, and also try changing the FW cable. If this still does not solve it, there might be an issue with the Mac OS 10.4.10. You might need to install Pro App support 4.0. Also, there was a fix available from Apple not so long ago specifically for FW audio devices. Please do a search in Apple's suport site for "FireWire audio device" and see if you find the patch.
If the Rosetta works when it is the only FW device hooked up to the Mac, then you have a conflict with another device, like a FW hard drive, etc... check each one until you find the culprit.
    Cheers

  • Sony 8mm Handycam vs. Canopus 110

I am importing 8mm and Hi8mm tapes into Imovie 11.  I am using the Sony Hi8 camera for the import.  Is there any reason to consider passing through a Canopus 110 to enhance the video quality?  The ultimate goal is to burn DVD's.

    Great!
Just a couple of things: you can have both versions of iMovie installed at the same time.
Happily this is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks. Update it via Software Update to iMovie 6.0.3.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
    Then reinstall iMovie 11.
iMovie 6 works great with iDVD 7.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.
Alternatively you could try this method, suggested by poster Uitech:
Open a terminal and type "touch /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iLife011.plist"
    (No quotes)
Install iMovieHD6 from the iLife 6 install disk.
This works with both Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.

  • PRE 11 - import from Canopus 110

I used PRE 10 a couple of times to imort VHS through a Canopus 110, but didn't really too much, just kinda played with a couple of VHS tapes.
Just got PRE 11, and the import process seems different. I *think* that the import process PRE 10 had, the canopus showed as something different from what it shows in PRE 11 which is "AV/C Tape Recorder/Player".  Why would it show differently?  I think under v10 it showd as AVCHD?
In v10 and v11, I get "your current camera setting if different from your project settings. Results may not be optimized." warning.  But, how do I know what settings to use?
In settings for a new Project, available Presets, I assume the only choices that would pertain to me are: DV with either Standard 48kHz or Widescreen 48Khz, or AVCHD with it's various choices. Under AVCHD, I assume that any 1080i would not be pertinent for VHS tapes, which leaves AVCHD LITE 720p24,720p30,720p60.  And, I assume that the 24 or 30 or 60 mean Frames Per Second.  Does it matter which one I select?
But it doesn't matter what I select, AVCHD or DV, my only choice when I go to import is "AV/C Tape Recorder/Player"...........so, does it make any difference what I put the Preset to?
    Thanks, Josh

As far as I know, that device is only used to digitize into DV AVI from an analog source... not AVCHD, which is already digital from a different kind of camera
    >choices that would pertain to me are: DV with either Standard 48kHz or Widescreen 48Khz
    Those are the ones

  • Cannot capture in Adobe Premiere CS5 via Canopus 110

I captured some video from an old tape deck with an RCA cable to the Canopus 110 yesterday, but today I cannot capture video from the DVD player.  I disconnected the RCA connection from from the Canopus, connected the S-Video cable from the DVD player and now the record button on the capture window stays dimmed.
I've updated drivers on IEEE 1394 connection.
I've connected the Canopus to other IEEE connections ports.
I've checked and swapped ALL cables three times each.
Connected a Canopus 55 to each port.
Tried changing user to administator and went through the other 14 or so list of things to try.
And, I think I've restarted my computer 14 times thoughout all of this.
    Now
    at
    wits
    end...

DVD players often add a copy protection flag to the video output - even if it's your very own DVD-R that you made. Not fair, I know, but that could be the issue. To test, simply connect the VHS deck again. Does it work? Yes? Then connect DVD, quits working, there's the issue.
Actually, you don't need to "capture" from DVD. One option is to simply copy the ".vob" files from the disc to your hard drive, then you can import them right into Premiere and edit them! Not sure when that feature was added, definitely works in my CS6. Try it.
Another option is to use software to convert the DVD into video clips which can also then be edited in Premiere. For instance, MPEG Streamclip which is free, can convert DVD to QuickTime .mov for editing. Might need to experiment with the settings, haven't used it in a few years myself. There are many other softwares, paid and free, to do similar.

  • Firewire conflicts

What do people use to output digital audio from the Quad to external monitors (speakers)?
I have M-Audio's firewire 410 but i causes more conflicts with iSight, DV cameras and eyeTV than I care to mention. It takes a lot of work to get firewire back up and running afterwards.
I'm thinking about getting a digital mixer such as Yamaha 01v96 V2 to take a direct input from the Quad and hopefully eliminate all the firewire problems. At £1600 it's not a cheap solution. What do people do?

I'm now looking at Behringer DDX3216 with the optical expansion option (£500 from Germany, about £650-700 in the UK).
I'm not finding exactly what i want though, essentially a mixer with mostly digital I/O's instead of analogue.

  • Flash Player 10 does not work in IE or Firefox. What could it conflict with?

I'm  using Firefox 3.6.8 (and sometimes IE 8.0.6001.18702IC) on Windows XP Pro, SP 3.
For some weeks now, I have been unable to hear any sounds on anything Flash-based, from YouTube to games at MSN.com or embedded videos on any site using Flash.  Initially I had assumed it to be because of having QuickTime installed because I know QT likes to hijack everything.  I uninstalled QT (and Real Player) and Flash Player then reinstalled Flash Player (and Shockwave Player just in case) and guess what?
Yup.  Nothing.  When I uninstalled everything, I used a program called Revo Uninstaller, which includes a registry cleaning option.  I then used Abexo and WinASO's registry cleaners to make sure I got everything else that even looked like QuickTime off my hard drive.
When I reinstalled Flash, the following programs appeared in C:\Windows\system 32\Macromed\Flash:
    Flash 10i.ocx (10.1.82.76)
    FlashUtil10i_ActiveX (10.1.82.76)
    FlashUntil10i_Plugin (10.1.82.76)
    genuinst (6.0.2800.1531)
    FlashUtil10i_ActiveX.dll (10.1.82.76)
    NPSWF32.dll (10.1.82.76)
    KB931433
    FlashInstall
    Install
    Flashplayer.xpt
When I check IE's "Tools" and look for add-ons, it says that Flash (Shockwave Flash) is enabled.  I even enabled the other Adobe add-ons for Acrobat and such just to be sure.  Firefox shows Shockwave Flash and Shockwave for Director both to be enabled.  The Flash control panel settings don't help: I have all sites set to store about 100 KB on my computer to make sure there's enough room for everything but still nothing.
Before anyone asks, my audio drivers are up to date, thanks to the manufacturer's website.  I have DirectX 9.0c installed and everything else works fine.  I can play audio and video elsewhere with no problems.  It's only Flash that's showing me this trouble and there's no hint as to what else could be interfering with Flash.
    Any ideas?

Well, great.  I tried the uninstall/reinstall before, but not with the uninstaller, so I was hopeful that this time might do it.  No such luck.  The video still plays, but no sound.
All the sound settings are working with everything else from games to media players.  I set Windows' firewall to allow both the ActiveX and plugin for Flash, just in case.
In the Flash folder, I now have:
    Flash10l.ocx (10.1.102.64)
    Flash Util10l_ActiveX (10.1.102.64)
    FlashUtil10l_Plugin (10.1.102.64)
    Genuinst (6.0.2800.1531)
    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll (10.1.102.64)
    NPSWF32.dll (10.1.102.64)
And the setup and text files that went with 'em.
I've also done a system restart since then and zip.
I went through IE and Firefox and looked for any file associations (like .flv) that I could manually change over to using Flash, but no go.  The settings panels for Flash have all been set to allow YouTube specifically (as a test) and to allow 10KB of storage space for all affected sites.
Now what?  I'm really not looking forward to a reformat and reinstall, but it's looking like that's what it's going to take.

Subject: Flash Player 10 does not work in IE or Firefox. What could it conflict with?
Something is strange with your list of modules; you list FlashUntil10i_Plugin (10.1.102.64), but this is really 10.1.85.3
I recommend that you uninstall Flash Player completely (using http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html), then restart Windows, and delete all remaining files in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash.
Next reinstall both ActiveX (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe) and the plugin (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe).
After that, if the problem persists, have a look at this page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83739.html

  • Problem with jquery slide show conflict with vertical navigation menu in Firefox & Chrome

Problem with jquery slide show conflict with vertical navigation menu in Firefox & Chrome. Works in IE. This is my first time trying to post a question - so please be kind. I am also not good with code and am finding css a real challenge after learning to design based on tables. I'm using CS5.
The "test" page with the slide show is: http://www.reardanwa.com/index-slides.html   The same page without the slide show is http://www.reardanwa.com/
I realize the images are not ideally sized - I'll fix those once I get the pages to function.  Maybe I need a different slide show? I would prefer a widget that I can modify to required size & postition. Again - I'm not good at building with code from scratch.
The problem is the naviagation links that are directly next to the slide show do not work in Firefox of Chrome. They do work in IE.
I've read about using jQuery.noConflict(); code but can't figure out the correct way to use it in my case or whether that's even part of the solution. I know my code is not well organized as I have cobbled together from various sources in an attempt to format the page the way the client wants it. Also, FYI, I will eventually try to make the page work in Surreal CMS.
I've spent sevaral days over the last several weeks trying to solve sth slide show/navigation conflict - so any specific light you can shed will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

The devices are not designed for transfer of that kind.  Use Photo Stream as suggested by another poster, or transfer photos to your computer (a good idea anyway since they will be lost if your device needs to be reset), then use iTunes to sync them to the other devices.

I have a user on an iMac 10.6 connected to our domain.  She uses Outlook web access for email on our exchange server.  Last week she received the following message which is randomly preventing her from sending emails.  She claims no attachment was involved in the original email when this all started.  I have not been able to look at her account as she is out of the office but maybe someone else dealt with this issue.  I realize this may not be Mac related but thought I'd give it a try.  She did say it occurred once over two days while working on a PC but it continued over the past weekend.
If an internal user tries to send a message with infected attachment using Outlook Web Access, it may report the following error message: The action could not be completed because of a conflict with the original item. The conflict may have occurred when an existing item was updated on another computer or device. Open the item again and try making your changes. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization.
This is because F-Secure Anti-Virus for Microsoft Exchange has detected a virus in the attachment. If the user tries to send the message again, the message will be sent but without the attachment. At the same time a blank message with an attachment named "Attachment_information.txt" will remain in the user's Drafts folder. The "Attachment_information.txt" will contain information about the virus detected in the message.

PS - have found other posts indicating that clips smaller than 2s or sometimes 5s, or "short files" can cause this. Modern style editing often uses short takes ! Good grief I cannot believe Apple. Well I deleted a half a dozen short sections and can export, but now of course the video is a ruined piiece of junk and I need to re-do the whole thing, the sound etc. which is basically taking as much time as the original. And each time I re-do it I risk again this lovely error -50 and again trying to figure out what thing bugs it via trial and error instead of a REASONABLE ERROR MESSAGE POINTING TO THE CLIP IT CAN'T PROCESS. What a mess. I HATE this iMovie application - full of BUGS BUGS BUGS which Apple will not fix obviously, since I had this product for a few years and see just hundreds of hits on Google about this error with disappointed users. Such junk I cannot believe I paid money for it and Apple does not support it with fixes !!!
If anyone knows of a GOOD reasonably priced video editing program NOT from APPLE I am still looking for suggestions. I want to do more video in future, but obviously NOT with iMovie !!!
