Firewire device causing problems when connected to Mini via LaCie ExtHD/Bus

Hello there..
Just bought LaCie 300GB Ext.HD/Bus(Firewire &USB). It was recognized by my Mini no problem. I have used the firewire connection between The HD and the mini. The problems begin when I try to connect my M-Audio firewire audio interface (it's mains powered, by the way) to one of the firewire bus inputs of the LaCie - then every action gets the dreaded spinning beachball and I have to shut down etc. The connection of this device has even prevented the HD being recognized by my system, in the case where I have tried having it already connected and powered up before switching on and connecting the HD to the Mini.
I've tried other things such as PMU reset, to no lasting avail.
This is the same firewire audio interface that has worked fine for months when plugged directly into the Mini, so why should there be a problem when it's connected to the bus port of the HD?
Now, as a temporary solution, I have changed the connection between the Mini and the HD/Bus from Firewire to USB - this means I can now use the FW port on the Mini to connect my audio interface (as before). The problem with this is that I work alot with video as well as audio, and have learned that it's very advisable to use firewire drives when working on video...but there is only one FW input on my Mini, so if the La Cie HD is using that, there is no port for audio interface to go in...that's why I bought this particular HD - more storage on a FW HD which has extra FW bus ports for such things as audio interfaces!
I hope I've explained the problem OK, thank you in advance for any advice.
Jimmy

You don't mention which model you have, but this is from the M-Audio Firewire 410 Manual Troubleshooting section:
The FireWire 410 has been designed to give you high performance and professional quality audio. It has been tested under a wide range
of systems and operating conditions. In the real world, however, there is a nearly infinite number of possible operating scenarios, any of
which could affect your system’s performance. Much like owning an automobile, “your mileage may vary.” This section can not begin to
cover all possible issues you may encounter, however we want to give you some suggestions on common problems you may experience.
One thing to avoid is connecting too many devices. The FireWire bus is a dependable, high-speed, high-bandwidth protocol which is ideally
suited for digital audio. Nonetheless, it’s important to remember that audio and multimedia streaming places considerable demands on
your processor and the FireWire bus. Although it is theoretically possible to chain many multiple FireWire devices in series, doing so may
potentially degrade your audio performance.
I guess this degradation could also affect the Firewire HD. Maybe there is a simple fix, but it sounds like the M-Audio people have been down this road before.

  • No picture when connecting Mac Mini GMA 950 to Panasonic TX-PF42G10 via HDM

    Hi !
I have a Mac Mini Core Duo 1,66 GHz with GMA950 chipset (MacMini1,1 sold from february 2006 to september 2006) which I was using as a Plex mediacenter connected to an old CRT display via an s-video adapter.
I purchased a brand new Panasonic TX-PF42G10 plasma screen the other day, and for the life of me I can't get my Mini to feed anything to the HDMI inputs via a DVI/HDMI cable.
When I remotely connect to my Mini with ARD or VNC, I can see it successfully detects I have a "Panasonic-TV" and lets me choose 1920x1080 either in 24Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz. I tried all three : no picture.
Tried connecting this Mini via the VGA input: works fine.
I tried to install SwitchResX but I don't really know what to do with it. Tried to install Snow Leopard too, but it didn't help either.
YET I FOUND SOMETHING RATHER INTERESTING.
I have another more recent Mini (one of the new 2009 models), hooked up to a Samsung T240HD display via DVI. Since this display also has an HDMI input, I tried to connect the other, older Mini to it. And then... the Samsung display wouldn't let me pick the HDMI input from the source menu!
I thought "***???", and then I tried to connect the newer Mini to this HDMI input: works great! I then kept the HDMI end connected to the display, unplugged the DVI end from the newer Mini and plugged it back to the older Mini : BINGO, picture at last...... except the display kept showing a "No signal, check cable" message (even though it was displaying my Mini desktop!).
So I thought "OK, some handshaking problem I guess". I unplugged the HDMI connector from the Samsung display and replugged it immediately: like I thought, once more the display wouldn't let me pick the HDMI input!
So I guess this is the same problem I'm having with the Panasonic plasma: this older Mini is unable to tell the TV that it is connected to it, even though it can perfectly read the TV specs. I've had no time to check what happens if I connect the newer Mini to the Panasonic plasma, but I'd bet it will work just fine.
So basically, my question is: will I ever be able to use this old Mini of mine with this shiny new plasma screen, or will I have to purchase another 2009 Mini? Is there anything I can do with SwitchResX? If so, what should I try?
Thanks for taking the time to read, and thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Sounds quite possibly like the Panasonic enforces HDCP over its HDMI inputs and the older GMA950 equipped mini is unable to oblige.
That's what I thought too, as the newer Mini works just fine with my two screens, using the very same cable I used with the older Mini. Bugger...
FYI, I tried 720p : no picture either.
Does the Panasonic's user guide make reference to making computer connections over HDMI? It could be that only one of the HDMI inputs on the TV is designated for computer input, e.g. only one of the TV's HDMI inputs can work from a non-HDCP compliant source.
I do think I tried all 3 inputs, and the user manual never suggests that one of them is designated for computer input (I know some Samsung screens work that way, but this Panasonic doesn't seem to). Anyway, I'll give it a try once more, but I have little hope...
Meanwhile, I connected my Mini via VGA, 1366x768 resolution. Not too bad when viewed from the sofa, but it kills me not to be able to use the digital input...
    Thanks for your replies, though

This message will auto pop up also when I don't have plug anything in my iPhone 5, It is very annoying…
The lighting cable is original and now i'm using OS 7.0.4 / iTunes is 11.1.3
What I can do to fix this problem? Thank you.

I would try using another cable you can likely borrow one to test from somebody
if it's the same then likely the connector in your iphone have been damaged

    Thanks,
Yes, I did that. They have uppgrades for the dongles, but just untill Mac Os 10.7. Their solution is to buy a new modem from them or getting one for free if I sign a contract for 24 months! So, i think from that side not very helpful.
It is just that I do not want to buy a new modem, when it works in quite recent computers and after having spent money in the new Mac.
But thank you for your reply!

  • Problem when turn on mini Ipad.

I have problem when turn on mini ipad. I have to slice the unlock after it flashing 3 times and not after flashing5 times!!
After the unlock flashing 5 times it will turn off the screen and I have to push any button on my ipad mini to activate the screen to turn on again every time!
Do I have to set something in setting to avoid this situation? It's boring to count the flashing of the unlock 3 times to slice it!!!
My iOS version is already updated but the problem still as the same since I got it on December 2012

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.
    Make a Genius Bar Reservation

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • HT3887 why does my iPhone say device not supported when connecting to my make even after it has successfully paired?

why does my iphone say device not supported when connecting to my mac pro, even though it has already succesfuly paired? I also use a wirless bluetooth keyboard and mouse on the computer successfully.

iTunes automatically syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer.
It couldn't be much easier than that as you don't actually have to do anything more than normal.
This lets you listen to voice memos on your computer and provides a backup if you delete them from iPhone.
Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos application until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes.
USB syncing is far faster than Bluetooth.

  • Problem in connecting to beehiveonline via WebDAV

    Hi,
I am seeing a strange behavior when connecting to beehiveonline via WebDAV. Need your help to sort out the same.
If I try to connect to https://beehiveonline.oracle.com/content/dav using internet explorer, the browser automatically redirects me to the SSO login page. After I login, it moves back to the workspace listing page successfully.
But if I try to connect to the same URL via "Add Network Location" or "Map Network Drive" the system is failing to connect. I am using the same SSO credentials. I am using Windows 7 laptop (not sure if that matters).
I have been using this (beehiveonline via WebDAV) for a some time now; this was working perfectly alright before last ~10 days. For the last ~10 days, this does not seem to work.
Can you please review and help.
    Thanks, Raja

    Raja,
I have some troubleshooting tips for webdav - see if any of these work and if not we can have a call and talk through the options.
    Troubleshooting Tips
@ 1. While connecting to Webdav using web folders, the login prompt keeps appearing.
Try connecting to the webdav server using https url: @ http://beehive.oracle.com/content/dav
If above doesn't help, try below steps:
Stop "Webclient" service (Go to Start-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools -> Services. Select "Web Client" and stop the service)
Set 'Startup Type' of Webclient service to 'Manual' Set up web folder using url: http://beehive.oracle.com/content/dav
    (without specifying port)
    2. My web folder was working properly. Now suddenly dav operations don't go thru and can not access stbeehive. I deleted the mapped network place and re-mapped, it still does not work.
This happens when the webdav server is bounced and your dav cookie on the client is not expired. Delete all cookies in Internet Explorer browser (Tools-> Internet Options - > Delete -> Delete cookies) and try reconnecting.
    3. Through web folders, I created a new folder, but the folder did not appear – and when I try to create it again, it says it already exists.
Stop "Webclient" service (Go to Start-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools -> Services. Select "Web Client" and stop the service). Set up web folder using url: http://beehive.oracle.com/content/dav (without specifying port).
    4. After copying a file from one folder to another within Web folder, it shows the file size as 0 bytes.
This is a known issue with the web folders client. After the copy/move operation, it does not issue a PROPFIND to get the details of the newly copied/moved file. Refresh your folder (press F5) and the correct sizes should be displayed.
    5. In web folders, I double-click a jpeg file. The MS Picture Viewer application opens but it does not display the jpeg file.
The MS Picture Viewer application is not webdav enabled. Try opening the file in Internet Explorer instead.
    6. I did some dav operations through the browser. After leaving idle for about an hour, it asked me for username/password again.
This is due to the dav session timeout.
    7. I did some dav operations through Internet Explorer (IE). Then, I did some operations through web folders. After leaving idle for about an hour, I tried to access through IE. It did NOT ask me for username/password.
Sessions involving non-browser dav client like web folders are intended to be longer (default timeout value is 16 hours). Since you last did an operation using web folders, your dav session has been extended.
    8. I have uploaded a document with a non-English name. When the document is listed, the file name is garbled.
or I have uploaded a document with non-English contents. When I open them, they are garbled.
Your dav client is not sending the encoding information correctly. Please try setting your "Content" user preferences ("document_uri_encoding", "document_character_encoding") to the encoding used by your dav client.
    9. I am not logged into Web Folders. Now, I login through IE and click on a MS Office document (word/excel etc). I am prompted for my credentials again.
This can be resolved by opening the MS word document inline in Internet Explorer. Steps required to configure are available at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/162059.
    10. I have opened a MS Office document inline in the browser. I click "Back" or close the web browser window. I am prompted to enter credentials again.
This can be resolved by following the steps given at: @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822128
    Known Issues
    Generic Issues:
@ There is no support for non-ascii username/password. Windows Vista Web folder is not supported.
Navigation through browser into URLs containing characters [ or ] may result in 404 error.
    Windows Web Folders:
It throws a common error dialog box for all the error scenarios. It does not pick the message sent by the webdav server
If you create/update/delete a document and it has to go through a workflow process, Web Folders doesn’t interpret the response status code correctly and throws an error.
    Cadaver:
Copying/moving fails for files/folders which have spaces in their names Use cadaver ver 0.22.5 or later. Earlier versions have encoding issues.
    Mac OS:
Lot of files whose name starts with the dot character like ".DS_Store" are created implicitly by Mac Finder
I uploaded a document to my personal workspace Documents folder. Then Get Info on that document in the webdav folder. There is a checkbox for "Lock". If you click the checkbox, it immediately gets de-selected. This is because this client does not send a webdav lock request.
Maybe one of these will do the trick
    Phil

  • IPod Classic not recognized by iTunes, claims to be wiped of all content, and causes computer problems when connected

I have an 80 GB iPod Classic that has suddenly developed severe problems. I'm running iTunes on Windows 7 64 bit.
It was working fine until last night, when I connected it to iTunes to add 6 songs. (Four of these were bought on Amazon.com and 2 ripped from CD's). It accepted the songs and played them fine when connected. When I clicked the icon in iTunes to eject the iPod, it came up with the "OK to Disconnect" and progress bar as usual. However, this time the progress bar didn't start to fill in. It just sat there.
After several minutes the progress bar finally filled in and returned to the menu... but instead of displaying the cover flow on the right side as usual, it showed a gray box with "No Music."
When I tried to re-connect it to my computer, iTunes would not recognize it. My computer also wouldn't recognize it at first... after several minutes, it came up as a generic removable device. Attempting to right-click on it or eject it from Windows was unsuccessful.
The iPod itself displayed "Connected" and alternated the plug image with the spinning arrows. It never said "Synchronizing" as it usually does.
Furthermore, my computer's performance degraded severely while the iPod was plugged in. iTunes itself froze, and even my other applications (such as my web browser) would not work correctly. This all cleared up as soon as I unplugged the iPod. If I tried to initialize iTunes while the iPod was plugged in, it would not open. It opened immediately when I unplugged the iPod.
Finally, despite claiming to have no music or other contents (it had contained only my iTunes music library, which is about 26.5 GB), in Settings the iPod claimed to have only 5.3 GB of free space.
Resetting the iPod with Select/Menu made no change. I was able to put it in diagnostic mode and check the hard drive, which gave these results:
    Retracts: 381
    Reallocs: 0
    Pending Sectors: 10
    PowerOn Hours: 417
    Smart/Stops: 381
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 15c
    Temp: Max 48c
When I put the iPod up to my ear I hear a steady, faint high-pitched sound and an occasional very faint crackling noise. When it shuts down the sound continues for a few seconds, then ends with a kind of squeaking sound.
The iPod is more than 5 years old, so I'm prepared for the probability that it's fried. But I'd like to try everything before I go ahead and spring for a new one.

The iPod's hard drive probably has data corruption.  That does not necessarily mean there is a hardware problem.  Hard drives, including the ones in computers, can develop data corruption.
Try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
If it goes into Disk Mode, run iTunes on the computer and connect the iPod.  To eliminate other potential issues, you should disconnect other USB devices (you can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected), and connect the iPod to a direct USB port on the computer.
iTunes may prompt you to do a Restore, which you should do.  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If the problem was only data corruption, and there is no hardware problems, the iPod should have a "fresh start."  You can sync it from your iTunes library.
If the iPod does not go into Disk Mode, or if doing a Restore fails, the iPod's hard drive may be faulty.

  • Problems when connecting and disconnecting MBP and TBD

    Hello,
I have problems with connecting and disconnecting my macbook pro retina 13" to my thunderbolt display. Everytime I disconnect my MBP form my TBD with the lid closed it takes approximately 10 seconds until my MBP has recognized that the TBD is no longer connected and the MBP screens turns on.
On the other hand I also have a problem when I reconnect my MBP to my TBD. Approximately every second time my MBP does not recognize that the TBD is connected again and neither the MBP nor the TBD turns on. The small light on the power cabel of my TBD does not light up. It is as the TBD would'nt have any power. Pushing buttons on my Apple Bluethooth doesnt help. I have to disconnect and reconnect the thunderbolt and the power connector a coupl of times until the MBP finally recognizes the TBD and turns on. In some cases a different background picture is shown on the TBD than the one I usually have on my MBP.
The problem is very annoying especially because I connect and disconnect both devices and it really costs time.
I really hope there's someone who can help with the problem. Do you think this may be hardware problem of my MBP or TBD?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    HI there,
The first thing I would recommend is checking for any new software updates while using the display, this will check for any available firmware updates for the display. If you continue to experience issues, then you may want to take a look at the article below for some further troubleshooting steps.

  • Getting problem when connecting to SMTP server through java code

    Hi all,
I am getting problem when i am going to connect with "Kerio SMTP server" through java code. The error what i am getting is :
"[16/Sep/2008 15:59:09] Sent: Queue-ID: 48cf8a73-000000f9, Recipient: <[email protected]>, Result: failed, Status: 5.3.2 554 5.0.0 Too many hops (101, max 100), message looping" when sending an email from [email protected]

Looks like something is set up wrong on your server that's causing messages
to be forwarded around a loop too many times without ever reaching the destination.
For instance, if server A forwards to server B, and server B forwards to server A,
    this would happen.

  • I deleted the 4oD app from my iPad but it still appears in the list in Settings. How do I get rid of that? It is causing problems when they issue updates as it apparently thinks I still have it when I don't.

Can any one help me get rid of a deleted app 4oD that still appears in the Settings list. I deleted it from the home screen and Spotlight search confirms it has gone. It is causing problems because I get notified of updates and I cannot get rid of them either. I have tried re-downloading via my MacBook because there isn't a download option from the iPad (App Store clearly think I still have it when I don't) then deleting again but the listing in Settings remains.
    It is really irritating me.
    Thanks.

Have you tried deleting the App within the Settings menu (rather than from the Home Screen)?
    Settings>General>Usage>
From the Apps list, find the App (press "Show all Apps" if the app is not in the immediately shown list), tap on the app you wish to delete, then tap "Delete App"

  • Lagging problem when connected to a Samsung Central Station 23"

    Hi,
I bought myself a Macbook Air(Summer, 2011 Edition) about 3 months ago roughly,
and I also bought myself a Samsung Central Station 23" which works just as a thunderbolt or cinema display but much cheaper and much elegant.
It also sends audio signal as well as usb datas when connected to a pc or a mac.
Before buying this monitor, I searched for any history or experience regarding performance problem when hooked upto an external monitor the other users had,
and while some people say there are no such problems with new intel i core series which includes much advanced graphic core and much faster processor,
many people said they have experienced performance problems to some dregree as well.
Now that I seem to have this huge problem of lagging with my MBA when connected to Samsung Central Station,
I still have no idea why it is happening, nor how to fix the problem.
I use my Macbook Air connected to a Samsung Central Station 23" and it runs 1080P Full HD resoultion, which isn't that big deal to incur performance decline.
I shut my MBA screen when I use the external monitor, so there isn't much thing to interfere with the performance.
I don't know about other people who use an external monitor, but my central station monitor works on Full HD resolution only when i close my MBA screen or connect it as a dual screen. If the screen is left open, it runs with the same resolution as the macbook air.
when I start sensing decline in frame I always had my MBA open to lower the resolution which seemed to work fine again.
But these days, even when it's disconnected from the monitor it seems to have problem and the only way to bring it to the normal condition is to restart it.
when connected to the monitor It's even hard to open few tabs on Safari and play a web flash game.
It lags so hard I cannot even turn to other screen on mission control or swith to other browser tab without making it delay for a second.
I checked CPU and RAM resources when it started lagging, but almost 90% of the CPU resources was idle and more than 500MB of RAM was free.
After restarting the computer CPU remained the same, but more than 2G of RAM was now free.
Im guessing it has something to do with GPU performance but not sure how to fix the problem.
Do you think it's my Macbook Air's hardware problem or is it the monitor? or something else?

I have the same issue. Were you able to find a resolution for this issue?
