Firewire devices no longer showing

This afternoon - for the first time in years - no firewire device showed up either on the Desktop or in the Apple Profiler.
Restarted several times with no success.
Devices on Firewire 400 (via bus) external CD reader/writer and DVD ditto.
Devices on Firewire 800, three LaCie drives linked together. Tried each one separately, no success.
Which is bit of a pain, these being my backup and ancillary storage devices ...
Disconnected them all. Restarted G5. Closed down and left G5 for half-an-hour (following a suggestion in a forum). Reconnected, restarted; no joy.
Console message includes:

and then, at the bottom of the report:

Can anyone help, please? I've run all the usual things, hardware check, diskwarrior, techtool (though none of these seem to check the firewire bus).

Right - had a look through, and after two attempts (mutter mutter and splutter curses) got everything going again.
The cure was, in this case, as listed in your first link: disconnect computer etc.
The first time the CD reader came back but the external drives wouldn't, so I said a few words that my wife would not approve of, then tried again but this time connected the (800 fw) external drives first, and then, when the buggers showed up, connected the cd drive on the 400 cable. I think the dvd drive on the 400 has died, so I'll leave that disconnected.
Oh it's a great machine when it's running right, it's a lovely gadget to play with; but when something goes wrong it can be very frustrating ...
I sometimes wish I'd had one of these when I was still at school and a little quicker on the uptake.

Itunes and wireless devices no longer show up in upper right corner of itunes window

Help! My Internet service was interupted last week and when it returned my iTunes and wireless devices no longer show up in upper right corner of the iTunes window. I finally figured out how to get both of my wireless devices to show up on the left hand column under devices, but nothing else shows up now in the upper right corner! I cannot for the life of me figure this one out and the tech manual is not helping at all. Help!

If you have the left-hand sidebar showing then that is where the store and your devices will show can be selected - if you press option-command-S if you are using a Mac, control-S on a PC, then the sidebar should be hidden and the store and device should go back to the top right. Is that what you mean ?

Firewire Devices no longer turn on/off automatically?

Ive just upgraded from my G5 with all firewire 400 devices to a MacPro with all FW800 devices.
My hard drives and audio interfaces used to switch on and off with the machine. Now with the new FW800 only machine they dont. I have to physically unplug all the cables manually everytime!
Any ideas?

That's intentional behavior. Firewire devices that powered up with the computer weren't always available at boot time. This ensures that your disks are available when needed.

My lost device no-longer shows up on wheres my iPhone???

Hi I need help with locating my iPhone , this is a bit of a story but i really need help!!
Basically I left my iPhone plugged into my laptop to leave on charge, but I left my iphone off because theres something wrong with the docking station and for some reason my iphone only charges when its switched off. I left both my iphone and my laptop next to me on my bed and I fell asleep, when I woke up I found my laptop on the floor and I needed to get ready to go on holiday for 2 weeks and i tried getting all my stuff together until i realised I couldnt find my iphone, I noticed that my laptop was on the floor so that my iphone must have been knocked onto the floor aswell, but i couldnt find it.
So i just left my iphone behind and went on holiday and now I've come back to look for my iphone again but its no where to be seen which is strange, so i signed into wheres my iphone but for some reason it no longer says theres any devices on the icloud thing??? and there is meant to be two devices which i've registered to the "wheres my iphone" ?? Is there anyway of locating my iphone whilst its switched off?
any help is welcomed as im so confused as to the whereabouts of my iphone considering it was only next to me on my bed before i fell asleep now its disapeard

cheers for a reply man, but I though that if I used "wheres my iphone " it may show for certain where i last used it.
I forgot to mention that there might have been a bin next to my bed and I'm starting to dread that my iphone may have fell into the bin and I think i've taken the trash out, Which is why I want to use wheres my iphone to see if bin men have used it???
I'm also still confused as to why theres no longer any devices registered onto my icloud and "wheres my iphone" as i had registered an old iphone and my new current iphone which is now missing ???

Certain USB and firewire devices no longer recognized

I am going to make a solid attempt to communicate the problem, I'm led to believe that there are some configuration settings that need to be corrected to solve this, though I am not able to find it.
The problem:
(what led up to it) My SSD was knocked out of commission do to plugging in a 'newer technology' 7-port USB hub that had its power supply disconnected. The computer froze, then would not boot. Applecare originally suspected the logic board but found the ssd was knocked out. They reported everything else was fine and the laptop was back in my possesion. I sent in the SSD for warranty replacement and put the original hard drive in. This is when the problem I am having now started.
For some some, a Lacie Rugged FW/USB drive shows up as an unknown device. The USB logitect c910 webcam will not register at all, and the Saffire 6 USB sound card is receiving power with the amp inputs/outputs working...but does not show up in the system preferences for sound. -- There is a second 2TB USB drive (also a rugged lacie) that mounts to the desktop occasionally, but on most reboots it doesn't show up, even in disk utility. When it does show up it appears to be working fine.
As a note:
- ALL of the above mentioned devices work properly on my father's PC.
- USB devices like my iPod, 8gb flash drives, new Belkin slim 7-port hub, all usb midi controllers, and an external CD burner work without issue
What I have already tried (several times):
-- repairing disk permissions and repair disk in disk utility
-- updating to the latest software, and installing the correct drivers for the sound card and webcam. The lacie external hard disks have no drivers for Mac
-- reseting the PRAM
-- reseting the SMC
-- plugging them in one at a time, in all ports, and ensuring they all have the correct power supply and working USB cable
-- upgrading from snow leapord to lion to mountain lion on the disk had no effect
-- by luck, I managed to boot up from the 2TB drive which contains a recent clone backup of the SSD. The same problem exists.
Before I ever submit a question, I make a solid effort to research past threads. So far, I have found no additional troubleshooting advice beyond the 7 steps I have tried as covered above. I am still awaiting the replacement SSD drive from owc. Again, the problem devices are:
- Lacie Rugged FW/USB 500gb external drive
- Logitech C910 webcam
- Saffire 6 USB sound card
- Lacie Rugged 2TB USB external drive (sometimes it shows up)
All have the correct supporting drivers, all 4 are recognized in my father's PC. None of my closest friends own a Mac to test them on theirs. I'm led to believe the problem may be configuration settings-related..though I currently cannot locate where such settings might be. Otherwise I have no clue what the problem is.
I apologize for the length of this post, but my intention is to minimize misunderstanding and rule out the options I've already tried. Any insight on this is appreciated as my music productions depend on both hard drives and the soundcard. Thanks for your time and attention. If any more info is needed I will be more than happy to try to provide it.

Thanks for your post! I took my ibook to an apple shop on monday to which I was told that the panic kernal that occured interrupted my software update and that the best thing to do would be to reinstall tiger. I did that, erasing and installing, and the problem seems to have dissapeared. I just wish I had read your post first! What was interesting was my mouse worked in the USB port but stuff like my memory stick didn't appear in disk utility. I also tried to replace the interrupted software updates with the Power PC combo one but that would not mount. I am not sure what all these means but if anyone has a similar problem to what I had, I suggest reinstalling the OS. Seems like a pretty weird and rare problem to have tho!

My devices no longer show up in iTunes on my new computer.

Neither one of my devices (iPhone 5 and iPad 3) will show up in my iTunes on my new Asus Windows 8.1 computer. They show up as devices on This PC in Windows, but not on iTunes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything. I've stopped and started the Apple Remote Device app (don't remember the exact name...) and nothing is working... Getting really frustrated because I can't sync my photos from OneDrive
Any ideas???

My devices no longer show up when plugged into itunes on home computer - How can I get the devices to show up on the left tool bar on itunes like before?

for some reason I can't see "devices" when I plug them into my home computer (running snow leapard). I recently upgraded my laptop to lion and now the devices are looking for my mac book. How do I get the devices to sync with home computer and not the mac book?

My MacBook Pro no longer shows up on my devices how do I add it back

Hi,
My MacBookPro no longer shows up on my devices that is associated with my AppleId. Any suggestions? I did go to ITunes and follow the instructions on how to add and delete but it is not giving me the option to add. Just had new hard drive installed and restored from time capsule without any other issues.
Operating system is 10.9.4., Processor 2.7 Ghz Intel Core 17, Memory 16 GB, 1333 MHz DDR3, Storage 526.65 Free out of 999.35 GB. and I did not update to OS X Yosemite. (Because I've heard negative things about IPhoto and I'm working on several photobooks right now.
Not sure if any of the information about my laptop is needed or useful, but thought it may be so am trying to be helpful.

When you say associated devices - are you referring to authorized devices within iTunes (i.e. devices that are able to access your iTunes account)? Or do you mean your registered devices when you log into your Apple ID on Apple's website?

My iphone 5 no longer shows up as a device in itunes, iphoto or image capture when I plug it into the USB port. The ports are working with other devices and the phone charges when it is plugged into the charger. All software is up to date on computer and phone.

Nano no longer shows up as device in itunes

My nano no longer shows up as a device in Itunes. Connection is good as it still charges, but nothing when I plug it in. Does not show up as device in windows either.

Until you fix it, make future purchases in itunes direct.
Are you using a different computer? Mac or Windows?
Which iTunes version?
Any security software potentially blocking access to AppleTV from iTunes.
AppleTV1 as you know has 2 modes - streaming and syncing. It has to be configured as a sync library for purchases to transfer to itunes and for you to sync to it. Synced content appears under My Movies etc. Streaming only content appears under My Shared Movies etc if a sharing libarry is configured.
You cannot copy purchases back to a shared itunes library only the sync library. Both sync and share connected AppleTVs however should appear under Devices in itunes. Can you send a song to AppleTV from itunes using Airplay? The fact that you can buy on AppleTV means it's connected to the internet - it does not mean that it is connected with iTunes on your LAN - the 2 things are separate.
If you no longer have a sync library you would need to change exisitng settings which will delete current synced material but apparently (never tested so can't be sure) not non-backed up purchases.
Under AppleTV's Settings>Computers menu, the top entry is teh sync library - if this is greyed out then either it's no longer available (eg different computer) or AppleTV and itunes are not connected. If you select it and choose to remove it,you can re-add the AppleTV to itunes afresh - if itunes doesn't see the AppleTV requesting a pairing when you try this either there's a communication/network issue (hardware or software related) or perhaps itunes installation corruption.

Disconnecting everything and restarting your iPod and computer usually does the trick. Then reconnect everything. This steps should work.

I can not eject my ipod from Itunes as the device icon no longer shows up in Itunes. I looked on line but none of the solutions were possible to follow as the various options indicated just weren't there!

My ipad no longer shows up as a listed device on my computer

Several days ago my computer received a Windows 7 update. Since then my ipad no longer shows up when I hit the Start button and go to "Computer". Up until recently it had been listed as a portable device. I switched USB ports, but that didn't help. I did a System Restore to just prior to the Windows update, but that didn't work either. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

With iTunes open do Control S and see if that shows the iPad.
Another thing I've had to do on my Windows computer is Stop the Apple Mobile Device Service, the restart it.
To do this: In the seach bar on Windows, type Services
A box will open and you choose Services (it has a big round gear next to it)
Another box will open with all the services your computer manages
Click on Apple Mobile Device Services
Stop it
Restart it
See if your device shows up now.
