Firewire Error Code -1309

Hi
This is more a Firewire question which is tangentially
related to Final Cut Pro
I have encountered "Error Code -1309" when trying to
transfer several gigs of QT movies from 1 Firewire drive
to the other (specifically a LaCie 320 GB drive from a
Western Digital 250 GB drive)
This has happened several times, can anybody recommend
a Disk Warrior cleanse on the drives or something else?
thanks

First thing to check: are both drives formatted macosextended? If not, some formats limit file size to 2gigs. Diskwarrior can't hurt. Also reformatting the target drive and zeroing it out so that any bad blocks are detected and fenced off is probably a good idea if you're having problems.

i'm trying to move a 7.88 gig file over to my harddrive from my mac, but it keeps giving me the error code 1309. im using a usb hardrive. i know it has to do with the mac only being able to move a certain amount of gigs at a time, is there some way to change the output for the amount of gigs. if not does anyone else have any suggestions of what i can do? the file sizes are just going to get bigger and i need to come up with some sort of a resolution.

Yes, I strongly recommend a FW for faster and more efficient results.
If you want to use an external drive to edit on the fly too.

I am moving files off my desktop and onto an external drive and i keep getting an error code -1309. it happens randomly on some files and not others? any one know what this means and how I can get my files moved?

    Mac OS 10.4.11
    Quicktime 7.5.5

A drive or partition which is in the FAT32 format simply cannot accomodate files which are 4GB or larger regardless of how much space there is available on the drive.

  • When I download the digital copy of the Hunger Games, it stops at 4.0GB and first returns an error code -1309 and then the code -50. Please help me complete the download.

When I download the digital copy of the Hunger Games, it stops at 4.0GB and first returns an error code -1309 and then the code -50. Please help me complete the download. I have tried removing the .tmp folder and downloading it again, but each time it stops the download in the same place.

I discovered the solution. The external drive I was saving it to was formatted as FAT32. In that format, the largest files can only be 4GB, which explains why it kept stopping at 4GB. I backed up all the files then reformatted it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), this is possible since I am on an iMac.

  • Quicktime (Error Code -1309)

i'm trying to tranfer quicktime movie files from a LACIE hardrive to a LA CIE PORSCHE
hardrive and i'm getting this error code.

thanks for the reply but there is more then plenty of space
on the hard drive to take these files.
I tried to move the files indivually but still got the same error code.
One detail that i failed to mention is that the receiving drive is used on
both Macs and PCs [didn't know that was possible] but the client tells me
that he never formatted the drive. Althought the 1st computer that it was
used with was a PC. Should i perhaps go on a LaCie drive Forum?

  • Error code -1309 when trying to copy files?

Cannot find information about this code online.
I am trying to transfer some video files from one firewire HD to another. Transfer fails each time & this error pops up.

You can't put a file which is 4GB or larger onto a MS-DOS/FAT32 drive without compressing or segmenting it regardless of how much space is available on the drive.

  • (Erorr Code -1309)  when transfering

    Hey Guys,
I'm trying to transfer some quicktime files from the harddrive to my external harddrive. Most of the files transfer fine. But it seems the larger size files get right to the end then I get this error
Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error Code -1309)
any ideas on how I can fix or change this?

Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error Code -1309)
This error means that you tried to copy a file larger than the maximum size supported by the filesystem used on the disk you tried to copy the file to; FAT32 has a limit of 4GB, and Mac OS Standard caps files at 2GB.
You need to either segment the oversize files, or use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to reformat the drive in one of the Mac OS Extended formats. The first option is probably better if you need to access the drive from a PC, and the second is better if you don't.

  • Error code (-1302)/ firewire cable?

I got a new color iPod and installed iTunes 4.90.17 but I get an error message box (2 of them the same) that says:
iTunes error 1302: "the disc 'content' cannot be read" unexpected error 1302
I click OK on both boxes and then iTunes comes up and works OK: how can I resolve these error codes? Win XP/USB 2.0. I have tried reinstalling iTunes but the error boxes always come up
also I had trouble with USB: I have a firewire port: what cable do I need to buy for firewire?
    Thanks!!!

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? I only began to see this after I upgraded to iTunes 5.0 and now I constantly get a Windows message saying "An unknown error occurred (-1302)."
My songs continue to play, but I get this same message every ten minutes or so and always in a series of two or four.

  • External HD issue Error code -36

I am unable to copy or move files to and from my lacie porsch external hd. I get the following message.
The Finder cannot complete the operation because some date in "grab-drop image.jpg" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).
any ideas? I have verified the drive it is fine and apps work off the drive. ITunes store will not download to the drive.
    Thanks

Sometimes the iSight has been known to hijack the Firewire bus. I'd try to see if the problem persists with only the Porch drive connected via Firewire and nothing else. An error -36 is an input output error. It often happens also when a hard drive is extremely full.

  • Two Days of Restore Error Code 6... HELP!!!

I have an iPod Touch that's about two years old. I no longer have access to the laptop that it is normally synced to, so I downloaded iTunes on the family computer. After hours upon hours of problems (not syncing, or showing that it successfully synced but getting a "no content" error once it turned back on) I thought maybe it was my iPod that was messing up and not the computer. I reset my iPod through holding down the home button and the power button, and I'm now at the screen that shows the USB cord with an arrow pointing towards the iTunes symbol.
I tried to restore on iTunes, and it will get all the way through until "verifing restore," and then I will get a pop up that says the process could not be completed because of an unknown error (error 6.)
I uninstalled iTunes and installed an earlier version of iTunes, but then my computer wouldn't even recognize my iPod. I reinstalled the latest version of iTunes and Quicktime. Still getting the same error code.
I am on an Administrator account, running Windows Vista 64 bit, and everything is up-to-date. All anti-virus and firewalls are turned off. I've followed all of the steps outlined on the Apple site, and I am down to paying $29 for a phone call to Apple. (Ha! Over my dead body!) I don't have another computer to try it on. I've used two different iPod cords (mine and the cord from another iPod), and have tried out all of the USB ports on the computer.
I'm really hoping someone could help me with this before I lose my mind.
I'm fairly computer literate, but I'm not a whiz. Please don't feel the need to break things completely down into laymans terms, but please don't use pure tech-speak(:

This Question can be best answered by someone who had the Same error pop up, but I'll try my best.  You have an iPod touch 2nd Generation and you don't have anymore warranty for it. I hope you didn't jailbrake it or did something illegal with it like putting a new software on it that should not be on there. Here we go:
Go to your Friends house or anybody else you know that has iTunes on their Computer. Don't sync your iPod!
Try to restore the iPod, or try to put it as new iPod so it'll delete everything but you'll have your iPod problem fixed

  • Error code -40 returned by audio driveer

    Hello All,
Just installed Logic Express 8, using macbook pro and Alesis Multimix8-Firewire. Took hours to fix "error while trying to sync Audio and Midi" but cannot get rid of "error code -40 was returned by the audio driver" . This error comes up after several seconds of audio playback, once the error window is closed it seems to work fine, but causes problems during into recording. (checked sample rates of logic and Alesis_)--
    any ideas??

There is no such thing as a G5 Intel.
Error -36 is an "I/O error", could mean a lot of things, you should give more details:
    • Does this happen during recording or playback?
    • Does it happen again if you re-open the project/re-start GB?
    • Does it happen with other projects too?

My iPod Classic 120GB makes a clicking noise when syncing with iTunes and will not sync. It will not turn on at this time and has been charged but does not hold the charge. After trying to sync, iTunes states that iPod must be restored. Have tried to do this but not successful, I receive an error code and have done the troubleshooting steps for the error and I am still not able to sync or use my iPod. HELP?

    Hi mafiose15,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
You can find the instructions in this article:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings

  • HT201263 I purchased an 1gen 16GB Ipod from a seller. The ipod only shows the connect to itunes logo when connected to computer. The display shows without the word itunes. I got error codes 1603 and 1604 and have followed all the steps that were shown on

I purchased a 16gb ipod touch 1 gen and it wont restore or show the battery chaging icon. It shows the symbol of usb cable and what appears to be an itunes symbol without the itunes words being displayed. Upon trying to restore I have gotten error codes 1603 & 1604. I referred to the apple website for assistance and followed the steps to the letter with no results. So what else should I try or could I try because I have has no such luch thus far? I have held the home button and power button I tried to enter DFU mode but unsuccessful due to the screen boots with apple logo then immediately goes to the itunes screen and no further only when connected. Will not power on without usb connection have charged battery to see if it was the issue and no battery bar locator displays with or without being connected to PC.

    So you did all this:
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
